Cisco Wireless :: 1230AG Is There A Good Antenna Which Will Do Both Floors

Apr 10, 2012

I have a small building which has two levels. I have a 1230 on the top floor and about 10 people. Below that floor is another office with 10 people. They don't all use wireless, infact its only used for guests and smartphones, tablets of which there aren't many.I was wondering instead of sticking another unit in the downstairs office, Can I either use two anntenna's, one on each floor connected to the one controller or is there a good antenna which will do both floors? The floor is concrete, I have one antenna attached to the right hand connector of the 1230 and can get 2 or 3 bars in the lower office. Thou as its a flat antenna this doesn't cover the part of the office directly beneath it.

Cisco Wireless :: 1230AG Not Able To Stay Joined To Controller

Feb 21, 2012

I have multiple 1230AG wireless access point in autonomous mode that I am migrating to lightweight mode so that a 4402 controller can manage them. I already migrated 4 of those APs with no problems using the Upgrade Tool version 3.4 and now I have one that just refused to upgrade version.

I ran the upgrade tool for this AP alone with the same parameters as others. It is now on lightweight version 12.3.7-JX9 The upgrade procedure went smoothly, the SSC was created on the AP and added to the authorised list on the controller. The AP boots up, gets an IP by DHCP, tries the controller via DNS, gets to it. It joins it then disconnects. Its FastEthernet interface keeps doing down/up every 90 seconds or so.

In my controller logs I see:
*SNMPTask: Feb 22 19:39:17.135: %LWAPP-3-INVALID_SLOT: spam_api.c:711 Invalid slot identifier (0) - ; AP 00:13:.........

Is there any method to limit roaming between different floors in the building?

Cisco Wireless :: WLC 2504 / AIR-LAP1522AG-E-K9 Can't Get Good Signal

May 27, 2012

I deployed wireless mesh with 3 RAP and 1 MAP (AIR-LAP1522AG-E-K9 with 4 antenna) + WLC 2504. The AIR-ANT2480V-N are installed on pole from a height of 17-15 m. I noticed that I can't get a good signal (front of antenna between 40m to 60m I got between -60 and -70 dbm) with slow connection.

1) What is the best antenna height on pilone?
2) Can I use other antenna (directional) with AIR-LAP1522AG-E-K9?
3) what is the area covered by antenna?
4) the RAP and MAP establish a neighbor between them and work with same fréquence for Mesh connection. is there any impact with that?

Good Wireless Bridge To Use With Motorola 6580?

Aug 17, 2011

I'm running a Motorola Surfboard Extreme 6580 as my modem and main access point, but I have equipment downstairs in my home theater that I need LAN connections for. I want to set up another router/device as a wireless-n bridge to plug these into, and I don't want to spend more than necessary, but I want the best performance from my 6580. As the 6580 is only singal band, and my wife's computer only runs on 2.4ghz, I think I don't really need a dual band device, but a single band n device. I bought a netgear WNR2000v3 router, but when I try to bridge it (enable wireless repeating function) it tells me that I can not enable this function with AES, TKIP, or AES + TKIP enabled. The 6580 tells me I should use AES to get the best speed, and the WNR2000 won't let me use any security when bridging (the router's menu page hints tell me to enable WEP, but I don't even see an option for that, and it's pretty worthless as security I've been told). I think I need to return this WNR2000v3 and get something else.

Cisco Wireless :: WAP200E No Good Signal Between Aps And Motorola 9000

Jan 7, 2013

I have 3 WAP200e APs in a client site and I am having a problem with the signal between the APs and Motorola 9000 barcode scanners. The first one went in about 6 months ago and it worked fine. The client then asked for two more to be installed in a couple of rooms adjacent to the room where the first AP was installed. They use barcode scanners with these APs and since the two new ones were installed, the first on is dropping the connection to the scanner. I have turned the new APs off and everything is back to normal. I have reduced the power output of the two new APs and the situation has improved, but they still get problems, especially on Monday morning, where it won't work at all for the first few hours, and then bursts into life and works fine for the rest of the week.

Cisco Wireless :: CT2504 / Bad LWAP Versus Good Standalone AP Coverage?

Jun 13, 2012

We have just installed our first CT2504.After install I have found a dramatic drop in signal strength compared to the wireless survey result obtained. All of our site surveys include real world testing using an AP, in this case a AP1041N.In doubt I retested a section using an AP1041N in the same location as one of the recently deployed LAP1041N.

In the same location a LAP1041N has between -10 and -20dbi difference in SNR compared to the test AP1041N.For example locations that tested with -60dbi using an AP1041N have little to no coverage using the LAP1041N installed. This applies irrespective of the WLC automatic control over Tx power or manually setting the LAP TX to the highest level.

Cabling / Cards :: Wireless - Have Very Good Signal But Slow Speeds

Nov 20, 2011

I've been having the same issue. I'll start my laptop and it will start connecting to my home network (comcast docsis 3.0 modem to dlink dir 655 router) and be cool upstairs next to the router, but when I move downstairs the speed jumps down from 130 to 117 to 78 to 5.5 mbps. Its holding steady at 117mbps right now. I'm thinking of upgrading my router to a DIR 827 hd media router 2000 so I can get dual coverage and less interference.

It was my understanding that all antennas are omnidirectionals on the 1142, why are those 2.4ghz antennas not all pointed the same way? onfiguration advantage and that each antenna is indeed omnicadirectional? Example, if I shut just one antenna off, do I lose a sector (120degree)?

Cisco Wireless :: How To Get 3500e Antenna Selection

Jan 24, 2012

i want to install a 3500e. I have a hole in my wireless network where this AP will be a perfect fit. I do have a wireless controller running code 6.x, so I think I will need to upgrade to 7 which is not a big deal.

The problem I have is the antenna selection. Since the AP has MIMO multiple-inputs multiple-inputs I’m perplexed on the type of antenna to choose. Since the environment is a warehouse the Omni directional would be preferred - should I also add the dipole antenna for close proximity to the AP. Also, I noticed in the getting started guide the 3500e has 6 external connection points 3 for 2.4 and 3 for 5 GHz. The antenna documentation says to use dual-band antennas, but this contradicts what is shown in the getting started guide. So what antennas should I get to make the 3500e work in a warehouse environment.

Cisco Wireless :: 3502e APs - How To Mount Antenna

Mar 22, 2013

I am still new to wireless. I have been studing for my CCNA Wireless for about 6 months now so I still have a lot of questions.

Right now I have to deploy some new APs. We are using 3502e APs. I have a qustion on how to mount antennas for these access points. I have to make a mounting bracket the new installations. What was done with the previous APs was to mount a unistrut beam to an I beam in the building. There is 2 AIR-ANT-1728's and 2 AIR-ANT-5160V-R antennas mounted straight out on the unistrut. Then they put a T bracket on the unistrut and mounted a second bar 90 degrees from the main bar and connected the third 1728 and 5160 antennas on the second mounting bracket. So we have 4 antennas in a row, and two off to the side 90 degrees from the other 4 antennas.

My question, is this OK to have them this way, or would it be better to have all 6 antennas in a straight line when I fabricate my new AP brackets?

Here is a picture of what I am talking about. This would be looking at it from above.
