We have cisco wireless network throught the whole 8-floor building on Cisco WLC 4402 and Cisco LAP-1242 AP. There are no coverage holes, but sometimes clients are flapping between two access points at different floors with serious loss in throughput. Is there any method to limit roaming between different floors in the building?

I live in a new apartment building which means a lot of concrete. The internet (fiber) enters the house at the beginning where the modem is hooked up to my Linksys WRT320N. From there two cables run through the house:1 to the home office, where two computers are connected through a switch.1 to the living room, where the Xbox, blue-ray player are connected through a switch.I also have a wifi network running from my WRT320N, but as it is at the beginning of the house, there are some black spots in other parts of the house. I tried to fix this with a Netgear repeater, but that keeps disconnecting.
What I want to do know is place a second linksys device in the living room at the end of the already existing cable that will also broadcast a wifi network, but I want this to be exactly the same Wi-Fi network as I already have. What I want to achieve is that I can walk from one end of the house with my iPad, streaming a video, to the other end of the house and that I always stay connected to the internet and that my tabled just picks up the strongest broadcaster, basically the same as with a mobile phone.
We are expanding our wireless infrastructure by adding further access points AIR-AP1242AG-E-K9.We use four WLC 4402 running version 6.0.188.0 as a fail over pair.What is the maximum limit the WLC can handle ?What is the recommended limit one WLC can handle ?We can divide the load on the controllers but in case of a failover one WLC will manage all access points.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a small building which has two levels. I have a 1230 on the top floor and about 10 people. Below that floor is another office with 10 people. They don't all use wireless, infact its only used for guests and smartphones, tablets of which there aren't many.I was wondering instead of sticking another unit in the downstairs office, Can I either use two anntenna's, one on each floor connected to the one controller or is there a good antenna which will do both floors?The floor is concrete, I have one antenna attached to the right hand connector of the 1230 and can get 2 or 3 bars in the lower office. Thou as its a flat antenna this doesn't cover the part of the office directly beneath it.

I am building a lab for the CCNA Wireless and currently have an old Cisco 3550 PoE switch and a 2106 Controller that I got at a steal of a price. My question is, The 1142 can use the 15.4 Inline Power from the 3550 even though it is not the 802.11af standard correct? If it doesn't then I will need to order a power brick.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a client that has 3 AP541N's and they want to enable guest wireless access. However, their VOIP provider has their managed switches locked down so we can't add VLANs, etc.So I cannot touch the switch or router config on this LAN.
Looking into AP541N documentation I see VAPs mentioned, can I enable those and have secure guest wireless access with the same private IPs that the rest of the LAN use right now? (That is, the employees are 192.168.2.x and the guest wireless users would also be 192.168.2.x.)
Or do I need to do something else to properly enable guest wireless? Like add another piece of equipment? I did try to add a Cisco RVS4000 to the mix but it wouldn't pass the VLAN across the switches that I setup for the guest wireless SSID. goal is to leave the switch and router in place, and work with the AP541N's that I have and get secure guest wireless.
I have a cradlepoint ctr350 router. I have a steel building garage abou 75 ft. away from where the router is stationed. I have no problem getting a good signal at the doorstep of the steel building, but once inside I have nothing. What would be the best way for me to get wifi inside of the steel building without having to run a hard line?

The complex is shaped like like an rectangle, fairly small, maybe 100 feet on the ends and 300 feet long on the sides. There are 130 people that we are assuming may have about 3 devices each that they will connect to the wireless network, potentially simultaneously, as this is in a college environment. We have plenty of bandwidth and down/up speed. We are running 30 megabit down and 10 up. I am planning on having a router with two access points centrally located in an apartment and extending the network out with antennas in each direction from the access points with Omni directional antennas. The Access points that I am planning on using are Cisco WAP200 with maybe a Linksys router, as the router should not have more than 10 connections on it. I need something that will not crash after 10-15 users connect to it because it jams up from overload.

on my cisco switch (WS-C3560-24PS with 12.2(55)SE1), the port configuration is as below:

AP receives a DHCP IP in Vlan 45 and users connected in vlan 45 too. I would like to undestand why the AP is working properly because normally vlan 1 is not configured as allowed vlan on my switch and the native vlan is dedicated only to untagged ethernet packet.
We have 5 pcs Cisco Aironet 1142 Access Points without controller at the same building. SSID is same for all of them. Our problem is client connected via wireless disconnecting randomly and continues working after a few seconds. I have a project where I need to connect two building using a wireless bridge.I cisco specialist told me to purchase two 3500 (AIR-CAP3502P-A-K9) access points and an external antennas.The problem I have is these access points will need something to control them. If the access points will be in separate buildings will I need a controller on either side of the bridge to get them to work?What other cisco AP device capable of 300Mps dual band that are autonomous and can bridge between two buildings that are a 50 yards apart?

I had to reinstall the Easy Link Advisor from the net because the disk I had did not work with Windows 7. Everything went OK, however, I am not able to add a password. I was wondering if I could put one of the antennas of a WRT54G through a hole to the outside and then set it in repeater mode. This center can be used by each office/company to either house their own networking solutions or utilize their internet access if you plan only to use cloud servers or NAS servers. Our company (4 employees) is using this network center only for internet access with all of our data stored and accessed in our cloud service.We would like to access the internet wirelessly, which building does not provide. We were given one port and shared the link through the use of a switch. So my questions is would an access point add wireless connectivity without any information (ISP?) provided by the network center? I am not sure yet if we will be purchasing a router/AP or device made for to be used as an AP.

It all works well.We have a second building too far away for wireless devices to reach the SA520W radio in the main building.The second building is connected via fiber to the main building (switch to switch). Several wired computers are connected to the switch in the second building.We want to provide seamless wireless connectivity as wireless device users move between buildings.
We thought to mount and connect another simple B/G capable wireless access point, via ethernet wire, to the switch in the second building. But we're not sure of the best CISCO/Linksys model to choose for this. I have an issue where I have an AP in one room and another in another.When I walk from one room to the other, I lose signal but manages to see the SSID and join.But, I cannot seem to surf the Internet, I have to manually disconnect and reconnect. Normal wireless routers I reconnect seamlessly without any manual disconnect & reconnect.Currently using cisco 5508 and ap2600.

View 3 Replies View RelatedCurrently have a 5508 in the lab and testing 4 AP's with it. Eventually there will be 18 AP's spread thru out different floor in our building.
So far access is working fine using WPA, 802.1x and the client configured to use windows logon credentials..But it doesn't seem to automatically transfer between access points.
I have 3 Cisco 1242 WAPs that I have deployed at a site that has NO RADIUS/AAA devices. I have given all of them a different channel (1,6,11), but the same SSID and crypto (WPA2-PSK). The issue is when a machine boots up it associates with the closest/strongest AP, but as the device "roams" it does not which to a different AP. It stays associated with the original AP until that signal is gone. Then it quickly associates with the closest AP with no problem.
How do I get the device to associate with the strongest WAP? I have research "fast roaming and WDS" but it seems like you need EAP/LEAP and they do NOT have that at all.
have configured Cisco IPPhone 7925G with EAP-TLS setting. (With manufacture installed and Userinstalled certificate). My issue is while roaming from 1 AccessPoint to another AccessPoint the call getting droped. I need to restart the IPPhone to reauthentiate again. In ACS am agging the authentication time-out error. (I had changed the time out value for EAP-TLS to 20 in WLC as per recommendation.)
If am using static web key there is no issue in roaming.
What is the reommended setting inorder for the EAP-TLS to work properly.
This is my second post today trying to fix the NAT types for my 2 xbox 360. I tried the port forwarding method but with this router when I enable the ports I lost internet access in my wired devices but my wireless devices still have internet access. I even lost internet access on my computer. I never had manu problems with a router trying to get my NAT type open on my 2 xbox.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having some troubles with client roaming on a 5508 controller running firmware 7.3.101.0. As soon as a client roams outside the range of an AP they lose data flow and do not seem to transition to another AP for about 1 minute.This is a small network with 6 x AIRCAP3502E-N-K9 AP's (running in H-REAP mode) on the same floor and clients are a mix of HP notebooks, Mac Books, iMacs, iPads and iPhones. There are several seperate SSID's setup and the problem occurs on all. All are WPA2/AES with either a PSK or 802.1X. Both 2.4GHz and 5GHz radios are enabled with auto power and channel selection.
I have tried changing the roaming settings from default and also playing with the AP power settings to no avail.Is this normal behaviour or is there something I can do to improve the reconnection speed?
Under the section intra controller roaming, WLC 7.0 config guide states that " When the wireless client moves its association from one access point to another, the controller simply updates the client database with the newly associated access point. If necessary, new security context and associations are established as well" URL.Within the phrase "If necessary, new security context and associations are established as well" . What is meant by the new security context ? My understanding is that only an update to the MSCB (with the AP info) is the only requirement as the client is within the same controller and subnet.I just can't think why would the security info needs to be updated.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have two 5508, no anchor, only one SSID with internal web authentication using radius server.Under "Configuring Mobility Groups", Cisco guide says: "If a client roams in web authentication state, the client is considered as a new client on another controller instead of considering it as a mobile client".
I understand that if a client that has already autheticated via web roams between two LAPs that are associated with different WLCs, it has to reathenticate.
