Aug 2, 2011I am looking to slowly migrate some of our wireless devices (Aironet 1231 and 1232's) to the Wireless N spec - 1260's.I currently have four AP locations that I want to upgrade first before anywhere else. At the minute, these four AP's work on the 2.4Ghz G band.
how the new 1260's will work in the mixed environment. I believe I will need to purchase the 1262 (which is the dual band version) so that I can operate the AP in both the 2.4Ghz G band range and the 5Ghz N range at the same time, is this correct?If I was to purchase the 1261 (which is the single band version), will I only be able to operate in either th 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz, but not at the same time?
For the mixed environment, would you suggest the dual band version? Can I place the same SSID on multiple Radios if this is the case? Following example: Say I have the SSID called 'Company' - this at the minute is operating on the G band 2.4Ghz range. If I was to purcahse the dual band 1262, could I put this SSID on both the G radio and the N radio? Would clients with an N adapter automatically connect to the 5Ghz range (N Radio) and legacy G and B adapters automatically connect to the 2.4Ghz (G Radio)?

Jun 13, 2012We have just installed our first CT2504.After install I have found a dramatic drop in signal strength compared to the wireless survey result obtained.All of our site surveys include real world testing using an AP, in this case a AP1041N.In doubt I retested a section using an AP1041N in the same location as one of the recently deployed LAP1041N.
In the same location a LAP1041N has between -10 and -20dbi difference in SNR compared to the test AP1041N.For example locations that tested with -60dbi using an AP1041N have little to no coverage using the LAP1041N installed.This applies irrespective of the WLC automatic control over Tx power or manually setting the LAP TX to the highest level.

The shipping package did not come with any guide, CD, and power adapter. I searched the Cisco sites, but could not find appropriate manuals. I did find a getting started guide but not for standalone AP, it's for Controller-based AP. Question - where can I find manuals / guides to set up and configure my new standalone Cisco Aironet Access Point 1260?

Oct 29, 2012We have been having issues with random packet drops and or some sort of radio lockup which happens a few times a day. I have a test AP setup with a few clients only a few feet away and I see this combination of messages. Should I be seeing these clients drop off and then reconnect immediately? Granted these test clients are not passing much data but my assumption is that they would not become deauthenticated because of lack of activity? This setup is using a radius server for authentication. I tested it before with just WPA2 PSK and only had a few disconnected over a number of days, compared with many a day with the Radius.

Originally, the SSID was hidden on all three AP's and users had to go to Other Networks and type in the SSID and password to access the WAN. About a few months ago, the network started broadcasting to the public. I am trying to make the SSID hidden again. I have tried going to the Security tab, choosing the SSID Manager and setting single guest mode to none but it has not worked.

Feb 9, 2012We have had several APs disassociating from our controllers. The alerts say, Message: Access Point 'AP-xxxxx' associated to controller '10.x.x.x' on port number '0'. Reason for association 'Dot11g Mode Change. I have read several posts that point out that you should have QoS implemented to prioritize the CAPWAP traffic. I'd like to know if someone has implemented QoS and whether it has been successful in stopping the APs from disassociating. And if it has been successful do you have any configuration examples for the ports attached to the AP and controller as well as the QoS configuration?
We have several sites with AP1142's and 3500's. We have 2 5508 controllers. We are broadcasting 2 SSIDs of which one is in HREAP mode and the other is in local mode. Each of our sites have MPLS circuits.
Here is an example I found on Cisco which I believe can be used for CAPWAP as long as you change the ports to 5246 & 5247 instead of 12222 & 12223.

Dec 15, 2012I'm looking at the spec sheet comparing Cisco WLCs and I see that the 2504 has a bandwidth max of 500mbps. Just to be clear, not all of the traffic from the APs goes through the WLC does it? In this setup, the APs would be plugged into a PoE switch as well as the WLC. The only traffic to WLC would be the CAPWAP tunnel, CleanAir info, etc right? All other traffic should just be handeld at the switch right?Also, does the 2504 licencing include CleanAir in the price?

Scenario: 50 persons sitting in a hall with closely packed chairs using wireless simultaneously. Wireless access provided by patch antenna at a height of 11m from the user. As one AP can server 25 users, 2 APs are placed with antenna directions facing the compact users. Each users gets very good signal from these two APs.
Whether there will be serious interference and client association issues in this scenario? once one AP associates 25 clients, whether other 25 clients associate completely to other AP?

a. When MA/MC is enabled on the 3850, does the 3850 start intercepting *all* CAPWAP packets it sees (much like CDP)? Even non-Cisco CAPWAP packets?
b. If I have a WLC 5500 upstream from the 3850, would APs hanging off a downstream 2960 be able to register to the 5500 through the 3850 when the 3850 is NOT in MA/MC mode?
c. If I have a WLC 5500 upstream from the 3850, would APs hanging off a downstream 2960 be able to register to the 5500 through the 3850 when the 3850 IS in MA/MC mode?

May 20, 2012We're in the process of upgrading our Wireless AP's from autonomus to LWAP. We're doing the upgrades remotely (we have 100's of sites to do, and it's not possible to be there to console on to each one), using a local computer to upgrade them to LWAP's with the Cisco Upgrade Tool.Having some inconsistent bugs pop up though from time to time.The most common one is that it basically buggers up the IP address after applying the recovery firmware image. It's supposed to keep the IP it had according to the IPFile.txt (for example 172.25.25.4), but it does something very weird... it keeps the last two octets (so 25.4 from the e.g) but replaces the first two octets with a 192.168 address. So the final address in this example after the UpgradeTool has done its work, is 192.168.25.4 - which is compeltely wrong.
This causes it to be unable to talk to the WLC (obviously, with bogus IP information it will struggle), and gives us big problems in that it wont ever come up unless someone can console to the AP and fix it. We can usually resolve the issue by munging about on the switch - switching the port it's connected to between access and trunk and doing some shut/noshut cycles seems to do the trick mostly.

What could be causing it? I am using 1524 APs in a Mesh environment with a WLC 5508 (7.0.116.0) which is connected to a H3C switched network.
The MAC addresses above are from my MAPs and I don't think I am getting it from the RAPs.

Linksys Wrt54g / Indoor Wifi Range And/or Interference
May 21, 2011I have Wireless-G 2.4ghz 54Mbps (Linksys WRT54G) working perfectly short range. But have no connection when I'm in room about 80 ft from router and have doors to rooms closed. Partitions in home are concrete block, not sheetrock. Should I get a new N router? Is there a repeater or booster that will do the job? Or connect existing router to new router in other room with ethernet cable going outside then over roof of house then inside to room?
