Access points 1142 controller 5508 running code 6.0.196.0 When you set the access point port speed with "config ap duplex full speed 1000 all" the access points leave the controlle and do not rejoin. I have had to reset the the access points manually with a power down and hold the reset button.
View 13 RepliesI have installed/setup a cisco 2504 wireless controller and 3 aironet 1142 access points using the basic config on a windows sbs 2008 domain, the problem is that the clients that are connected to the 2504 aint getting the there ip addr from the AD but from the wireless controller, and there cant reach the clients on wifi from the clients that are connected to lan, is there anyway that i cant change this so that a client on lan can see the client on wlan and vice versa.

Seems to be when the APS reboot or lose power we cannot issue command to bring the APs back up from the WLAN- we have to log onto each AP via a console cable and bring the interfaces up.
I am having an issue here. I have 2x 5508 that each have 100 AP license and a little under 200 access points. Basically all of the access points are using DNS to connect to the primary controller that has the DNS entry. Basically half of my access points need to be on the second controller and in order to do this I have been using the high availability mode of each access point to push them to the second controller IP address.It was working perfectly until now. I have pushed 28 access points to the second controller and the last two I need to push at this location just keep resetting on the primary controller. Neither controller is configured as master controller.

Is it possible to configure the 5508 controller to allow these access points to use the IP scheme assigned for that particular building or will dhcp always assign an IP address to the connecting client based on the IP scheme of the building that the controller resides in?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm having an issue in one open space area with a wifi network.I currently have 5 access points and around 100 users connected to the WiFi.There are desktops, Ipads and Mobile users connected to it.13,24,16,41,9 are the associated users to each access point. The one with 41 and 9 are only 10meters away from each other.
I read on some posts before having issues with APPLE and WIFI so cisco advised to disable the load balancing.I setup the client windown size to 10.On the networks the client roaming is with the default value.On the WLAN the Client Load Balancing is not checked.
We have an MPLS (layer 3) network 4 offices and a Data center. We are planning to install about 10 Access Points(3600 series) per office and have a controller(5508 series) in the Data center.
Questions:
1- Is this design possible, in other words, just one controller centralizing all Access point traffic in one controller in the Data center?
2- We would like to accomplish this in two phases:
A- install access points without controller handling authentication thru Microsoft IAS servers (current configuration with 1200 series)
B- Deploy wireless Controller in Data center and start migrating orphan AP to Controllers one office at a time.
I'm using a Cisco Wireless LAN Controller 5508, 14x Access Points 1041 and 6x Access Points 1031 in combination with a NCS 1.0.
Is it possible to broadcast SSID'S only on defined Access Points, e.g. AP 1-3,7-10,18? If yes, what have I to do?
Installed a new 5508 WLC last week, and finished bringing 68 new 3602i access points online in our College Dorms. We are seeing a lot of "Client De-authenticated" errors "Reason: Unspecified Reason: Code 1. Years ago I asked about error code 1. The reply from Cisco was: "The programers put the code in. It basically means we don't know what the problem is."Got a call from one of the dorms stating that students were getting knocked off the network while going to sites. If a student is wired, network is solid.Walked the dorm in question and was getting full bars of signals at all times, and was able to stream a movie from my Ultraviolet account without any break or slowdown as I moved from access point to access point. So.. my device, an iPad, was fully mobile and did not experience any disconnects.Did observe one student using a MacBook Pro. This student was constantly loosing connection to the access point. Checked the controller for the MAC of the student's computer. I did find deauthentication errors. BUT... this student's error was the computer was receiving an IP address from the DHCP that was already in use. At the computer the error message was a timeout issue.I am just learning the ropes on the 5508. Have used 3 4404s for the past six years.

If i enable the wlan controller internal DHCP Server can this access points will work with this internal DHCP server or do i need to configure DHCP option 43 for these access points? Controller is added to NCS, but it doesnt show any AP's which are there on the controller. AP count is zero. I have another controller with code 7.0.230 added and showing AP's though. AP model is 1252.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi have deployed WLC 5508 in head office with current 56 access points (mix of 1262N, 1141N and 1242) are regist ered and working fine, recently we extended to our remote office (connected over Layer 3 MPLS with OSPF Protocol) were none of the access points are not registering, i am able to reach to the controller from the specific VLAN and native VLAN without any issues. @remote site i have enabled option 43 and option 60 with the controller IP.

Clients are randomly getting dropped with "Limited Access" shown in Win 7. In this state, the client machine is unable to ping the gateway and sometimes lose their DHCP assigned IP as well. A manual disconnect/re-connect to the SSID is required everytime.I ran a debug on one the clients stuck in the "Limited Access" state (debug client xx:xx:xx:xx):

We did wireless coverage testing using some 1142 units in autonomous mode, and got a satisfactory result, but upon converting these test units to Lightweight and adding them to our WLC5508 controller, the coverage has decreased noticeably.
Any tips or tricks to getting lightweight 1142 APs to have a range as far as the same hardware with autonomous firmware?
Doing segregation of SSIDs Base on AP , I have the following scenario:
Head Office :
2 SSIDs (HO_WiFi , Guest) , Access Points which are working in connected mode and grouped on the default ap group .
Remote site:
2 SSIDs (Branch_Wifi , Guest) , Access Points working in flex connected mode and locally switching the traffic .
As shown above , I will be having Head Office , and other 20 Remote Sites with Access Points working in Flex connected mode. What is the best way to group AP and segregate SSID base on location. Above Scenario are build base on WLC 5508 and AP 1142.
After the upgrade of the WLC 5508 to version 7.4 the 1142 access-points LED blinking rapidly cycling through blue, green, and red. I found the following information to this behavior: "Access point location command invoked"
The configuration didn't change. How can I switch this function?
This first started when a user said they were getting disconnected and reconnected a few times a day to our wireless network. He is in a remote office with a 1142 which is set to H-Reap talking back to our 5508. Our WLC is running 7.0.166 The laptop has an intel ulitmate 6300agn wireless card with the latest 15.x drivers.
We are using an SSID with wpa2 and 802.1x auth back to our ACS server using PEAP with our windows credentials.attached is what i am seeing on the wcs troubleshooting page.When i do a debug client on the WLC i see many reauthentications coming from the client on the different radio.

Now this may be not be the issue thats causing our dropouts a couple times a day as this is happening every 5 mins.
i have a Setup as Follows
- 5508/1142
- heterogenous Client with WZC, XP, SP3, SSO
- ACS 5.2, MS AD
Target is Songle Sign On wih Machine Cerificates against AD. For testing purpose we tested with EAP-PEAP/MS Chapv2 and Machine Auth, works fine. Now we installed a Machine cert in the Machine cert Store (no User Cert) and reconfigured the WZC for using certs and Machin Auth. What we see is an Error Message in the System Tray that there is no certificate available. We checked it again, the MMC shows us a Machine cert in the Store.
We recently had a power outage where most of our AP's were down as well as our controller. When everything came back up most of the AP's didn't rejoin the controller without me resetting all of them. It seems as if the AP's might have booted up before the controller was up, but shouldn't they just try to rejoin at a later time? They didn't rejoin for 48+ hours on there own so I'm assuming that they were not ever going to re-join. All I had to do to fix it was power them off and back on and everything worked.
DHCP is on the local switch where the AP's are powered from so that's not a problem, and they had connectivity to the controller the whole time.
5508, and 1142's.Software version 7.2.103.0 on the controller.
I'm having a strange issue with an 1142 AP. I have a 5508 WLC at my corporate HQ and have AP's in many locations, connected by MPLS WAN. I have one site where the 1142 is blinking green and doesn't associate with the WLC. I have tried a different switch port with the AP (didn't work) and I know that the switch port is good because I have a 1252 that works just fine at this remote location.The really weird part is that the AP is blinking green, but the switch port shows that it is not connected and the green port light on the 3560 switch is not lit. I have verified wiring in the closet, but unfortunately the 1142 AP is hanging 40ft high in a shop and I don't have access to it.Is it possible that there's a bad rj-45 termination that is allowing PoE to the AP, but no data?

The intended goal is to get it accessible though 2 SSIDs:Private: VLAN3 (our internal data VLAN)Guest: VLAN98 (our DMZ/Segregated VLAN)At present, our VLAN3/internal users get DHCP addresses from x2 Windows DHCP servers. Eventually, the DMZ VLAN connections will get their IP addresses from a switch in our DMZ VLAN.At the moment, I am able to authenticate with the Access Point through the VLAN 3 SSID but never get an IP address. I have posted the switch port config below as well as the Access Point config.

They have been working great for about a month, but as of yesterday, the Wifi signal from 2 of the APs began to pulse - 5 seconds on, 1 second off - which makes it unusable. [code]
All APs are receiving PoE from their last 3750 (at default levels). I've cycled the individual APs, as well as the WLC, but the issue remains.Except for the initial 3750 directly connected, all other 3750's are different.
We have a Cisco ASA5505 here that provides DHCP and routing to all our devices in our network. We also have a few other switches and wireless access points connected directly to the back of the ASA5505.For the past year all the wireless network signals has been working fine however starting last month, none of the wireless access points (we have three WRT54G) would allow proper connection (dropping connection, slow internet).I thought this maybe all THREE wireless access points are toast/bricked. So i went out and bought brand new Netgear WN604 and even with the new WAP i'm having same connectivity issues (really slow internet).When hardwired directly to the switches we get BLAZING fast internet & connectivity, no issues.
I called CISCO TAC and they automatically said "our ASA5505 is fine, it has to be your wireless access points" not working properly. I explained to them that i also purchased two brand new access points and they are doing the samething now, how can that be?
I've had some long standing issues that I've tried various things to fix. I have two WAP4410N access points set up at a smaller sister company. Wireless clients (laptops) are not receiving DHCP assigned IP addresses. If I type in an IP manually, it works fine.The sister company has a point to point T-1 connection to our main building. Our main building has the DHCP server. The router on the sister company end is configured as the DHCP relay.
I've upgraded the firmware three different times in the past to hopefully resolve the issue, but no luck. Just today, on one of the WAP4410N's, I upgraded to the 2.0.6.1 firmware (backing up config, reset to factory default, upgraded firmware, reset factory default again, restored config). After the first reset to factory defaults, the Access Point itself picked up a DHCP address from the server, and I verified this in the DHCP console on the server, so I know that the DHCP relay is working. However, my laptop would not get a DHCP address when connecting wirelessly through that access point. It is a Windows 7 Enterprise laptop. I also could not get a DHCP IP with my iPhone connecting to wireless, to rule out specific issues with just a laptop.I have the DHCP lease times for the subnet that these WAP4410Ns are on set to 2 hours.
To put a cherry on top, there is one laptop that stays in a lab area at all times, connecting wirelessly, and it DOES get a DHCP IP address (I can see in the DHCP console that the lease for this laptop continually renews as needed). I do remember on initial config when I couldn't get it to work, that I did a manual set up, gained connection, then switched it to DHCP...but that doesn't work for any other laptop.Why would the access points get DHCP address, but not anything connecting to the Access Points?
Using WISM with 7.0.220 and 1240 and 3502 APs. Just found that some of our 3502 AP didn't enbale their clean air and CDP when installed. This only happened on a few new APs. But the area these APs where we seem to have had a few problems with PCs. The only PCs effected where Computer On Wheels (COWs), Dell 780 Desktop with a Cisco Wireless Card.
Using an interl wireless card and others in thes areas worked.Once I enabled the CDP and Clean Air, the COWs worked.My question is with the APs not having CDP enabled, could this affect the cisco wirelss card in the COWs?
At my school we have a lot of access points, but sometimes the computer use the wrong access point. How can I solve that? Is there a program for switching access point?
View 8 Replies View RelatedBTW the halls are next to each other.The house and the 3 halls are in the vicinity however not attached together(i.e. wall to wall). The distance between the house and the first hall is approx 1 road width distance.ISP is Virgin and the internet was installed this year hence has the latest Virgin Home Hub.I am aware that i probably require 3 wireless access points (1 for each hall).The first wireless access point will need to be connected with a RJ-45 cable running from Home Hub. Can i connect the Wireless access points up together or do they all need to come from the ADSL hub?I am not sure what Wireless access points would be best and how to go about connecting this all up
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have New Pace 4111n Wireless Router that I got from AT&T and is setup on 1st floor, but its wireless range does not get me to 2nd floor. I also have the 2Wire wireless router from AT&T. In Addition, I have ethernet connection from level 1 to level 2 as well.
I was wondering if it is possible to have the Pace Wireless N router to work as modem and wireless access point, at the time use the 2Wire router to broadcast wireless and act as access point for 2nd floor.
IF its doable, how should the two be configured and connected.
