We are having 5508 controller with Lightweight access points 1142, IS it possible to disable 802.11a on certain access points before turning it off completely on the controllers?? Could you provide steps for doing so on WCS?
View 5 RepliesWe have an MPLS (layer 3) network 4 offices and a Data center. We are planning to install about 10 Access Points(3600 series) per office and have a controller(5508 series) in the Data center.
Questions:
1- Is this design possible, in other words, just one controller centralizing all Access point traffic in one controller in the Data center?
2- We would like to accomplish this in two phases:
A- install access points without controller handling authentication thru Microsoft IAS servers (current configuration with 1200 series)
B- Deploy wireless Controller in Data center and start migrating orphan AP to Controllers one office at a time.
Is it possible to use Cisco Band Select on a Cisco 5508 WLAN controller and still disable the 802.11b data rates?

This makes no sense. I'm just moving code over, why do I have to disrupt my wireless network in order to move code?
View 7 Replies View RelatedWe have a Cisco 2500 WLC with 136 APs. Recently, we discovered eight APs that were not listed on the Wireless > Access Points > All AP list. These APs were once working and connected, but now they are no longer in the All AP list. I located one of these APs and found the green LED blinking. I power cycled the AP and it came back online with a solid green LED and was then registered on the All AP list. The All AP list will only show the connected APs. I would like to know if there is a method to show the APs that were once connected and are no longer registered so we can better identify when an AP is not working?
View 15 Replies View RelatedI have installed/setup a cisco 2504 wireless controller and 3 aironet 1142 access points using the basic config on a windows sbs 2008 domain, the problem is that the clients that are connected to the 2504 aint getting the there ip addr from the AD but from the wireless controller, and there cant reach the clients on wifi from the clients that are connected to lan, is there anyway that i cant change this so that a client on lan can see the client on wlan and vice versa.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am having an issue here. I have 2x 5508 that each have 100 AP license and a little under 200 access points. Basically all of the access points are using DNS to connect to the primary controller that has the DNS entry. Basically half of my access points need to be on the second controller and in order to do this I have been using the high availability mode of each access point to push them to the second controller IP address.It was working perfectly until now. I have pushed 28 access points to the second controller and the last two I need to push at this location just keep resetting on the primary controller. Neither controller is configured as master controller.

Lately, new 1131 APs that have undergone the same process, are not joining the controller. They are discovered but then the close the connection. The one with 41 and 9 are only 10meters away from each other.
I read on some posts before having issues with APPLE and WIFI so cisco advised to disable the load balancing.I setup the client windown size to 10.On the networks the client roaming is with the default value.On the WLAN the Client Load Balancing is not checked.

Installed a new 5508 WLC last week, and finished bringing 68 new 3602i access points online in our College Dorms. We are seeing a lot of "Client De-authenticated" errors "Reason: Unspecified Reason: Code 1. Years ago I asked about error code 1. The reply from Cisco was: "The programers put the code in. It basically means we don't know what the problem is."Got a call from one of the dorms stating that students were getting knocked off the network while going to sites. If a student is wired, network is solid.Walked the dorm in question and was getting full bars of signals at all times, and was able to stream a movie from my Ultraviolet account without any break or slowdown as I moved from access point to access point. So.. my device, an iPad, was fully mobile and did not experience any disconnects.Did observe one student using a MacBook Pro. This student was constantly loosing connection to the access point. Checked the controller for the MAC of the student's computer. I did find deauthentication errors. BUT... this student's error was the computer was receiving an IP address from the DHCP that was already in use. At the computer the error message was a timeout issue.I am just learning the ropes on the 5508. Have used 3 4404s for the past six years.

I need to move all of the access points on controller 1 to controller 2 so we can perform maintenance on one if our 6500s. Is there and easy way to force all of the access points off the controller without changing any access point configs? I was hoping I could make a change in the controller in such a way that it would not accept any access points. If I had an ap manager interface I think I could do it but that is long gone now.

i have deployed WLC 5508 in head office with current 56 access points (mix of 1262N, 1141N and 1242) are regist ered and working fine, recently we extended to our remote office (connected over Layer 3 MPLS with OSPF Protocol) were none of the access points are not registering, i am able to reach to the controller from the specific VLAN and native VLAN without any issues. @remote site i have enabled option 43 and option 60 with the controller IP.

Interface management on WCL 5508 is assigned ip 192.168.255.200 and from a PC ( on different subnet), i can ping but cannot access https to WCL but From a PC ( in the same subnet) i can ping and https.

We plan to upgrade the 5508 to 7.3.112.0 and the 4400 is already 7.0.116.0. Will there be any issue if the anchor controller is not the same code as the foreign controller? Security say that all traffic on this SSID should be isolated and directed straight to the firewall, with no chance of contamination into the company network infrastructure.
With the 5508, my understanding is using the setting up a guest account functionality built in will achieve this, but all traffic would end up at the wireless controller. How do I then put a direct forward for all traffic to the firewall which will only affect the guest traffic?
I recently had a 5508 controller installed and configured for a corporate network as well as internet only guest access. Users authenticate via 802.1X key management on the corporate network and web authentication via guest. This works fine, however, I've run into a problem. We also use iPads for inspections and the inspection site is housed internally. I've had a network admin create an exception in the firewall that will allow connection to the internal sites from the guest network, however, it does not function. I did find that if I connect an iPad to the corporate wireless network I'm able to download the necessary certificate to the device but that only works if I use my login information which is not something I am interested in doing. Is it possible to enable another authentication for the corporate network without breaking the functionality of the existing 802.1X authentication? What could possibly be the cause on the guest network not allowing connectivity to the internal sites, even though the exception has been created?
