Jul 14, 2011I have a customer who bought Cisco Aironet 3500 Series. Currently 4404 WISM Controllers are installed with 1142 Access-Points. The WLC-Version is 6.0.199.
Will the 3500 Series Access-Points work? (Of course without the spectrum intelligence feature)?
The Q&A says the following: Are there any concerns with supporting the new Cisco Aironet 3500 Series Access Points with the older Cisco 2000, 2100, 4100, or 4400 Series Wireless LAN Controllers?

Jul 16, 2012I have NCS 1.1 appliance and added a 5508 WLC running 6.0.199.4 code using snmpv3. Controller is added to NCS, but it doesnt show any AP's which are there on the controller. AP count is zero. I have another controller with code 7.0.230 added and showing AP's though. AP model is 1252.

Apr 17, 2012i have deployed WLC 5508 in head office with current 56 access points (mix of 1262N, 1141N and 1242) are regist ered and working fine, recently we extended to our remote office (connected over Layer 3 MPLS with OSPF Protocol) were none of the access points are not registering, i am able to reach to the controller from the specific VLAN and native VLAN without any issues. @remote site i have enabled option 43 and option 60 with the controller IP.

Cisco Wireless :: Push Access Points To Second 5508 Via HA
Aug 9, 2012I am having an issue here. I have 2x 5508 that each have 100 AP license and a little under 200 access points. Basically all of the access points are using DNS to connect to the primary controller that has the DNS entry. Basically half of my access points need to be on the second controller and in order to do this I have been using the high availability mode of each access point to push them to the second controller IP address.It was working perfectly until now. I have pushed 28 access points to the second controller and the last two I need to push at this location just keep resetting on the primary controller. Neither controller is configured as master controller.

I have had to reset the the access points manually with a power down and hold the reset button.

Mar 10, 2013I'm having an issue in one open space area with a wifi network.I currently have 5 access points and around 100 users connected to the WiFi.There are desktops, Ipads and Mobile users connected to it.13,24,16,41,9 are the associated users to each access point. The one with 41 and 9 are only 10meters away from each other.
I read on some posts before having issues with APPLE and WIFI so cisco advised to disable the load balancing.I setup the client windown size to 10.On the networks the client roaming is with the default value.On the WLAN the Client Load Balancing is not checked.

Apr 11, 2013We have an MPLS (layer 3) network 4 offices and a Data center. We are planning to install about 10 Access Points(3600 series) per office and have a controller(5508 series) in the Data center.
Questions:
1- Is this design possible, in other words, just one controller centralizing all Access point traffic in one controller in the Data center?
2- We would like to accomplish this in two phases:
A- install access points without controller handling authentication thru Microsoft IAS servers (current configuration with 1200 series)
B- Deploy wireless Controller in Data center and start migrating orphan AP to Controllers one office at a time.

Jan 25, 2013Installed a new 5508 WLC last week, and finished bringing 68 new 3602i access points online in our College Dorms. We are seeing a lot of "Client De-authenticated" errors "Reason: Unspecified Reason: Code 1. Years ago I asked about error code 1. The reply from Cisco was: "The programers put the code in. It basically means we don't know what the problem is."Got a call from one of the dorms stating that students were getting knocked off the network while going to sites. If a student is wired, network is solid.Walked the dorm in question and was getting full bars of signals at all times, and was able to stream a movie from my Ultraviolet account without any break or slowdown as I moved from access point to access point. So.. my device, an iPad, was fully mobile and did not experience any disconnects.Did observe one student using a MacBook Pro. This student was constantly loosing connection to the access point. Checked the controller for the MAC of the student's computer. I did find deauthentication errors. BUT... this student's error was the computer was receiving an IP address from the DHCP that was already in use. At the computer the error message was a timeout issue.I am just learning the ropes on the 5508. Have used 3 4404s for the past six years.

We have the option to configure the antenna parameter in WLC under Wireless > Access Points > Radios > 802.11a/n or 802.11b/g/n for external antenna and and using only port A.
But if we enable only one port (Example: port A) we will get a warning message: Need to have at least both dual mode antennas (antennas A and B) enabled
Is it not possible to use an antenna like ANT2485P-N together with an Access Point like 3502E?

Nov 20, 2011we have a wireless network composed by Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers (WLCs) and Access Points (APs) providing access to a large university.
For WLC we're using the 5508 model (four controllers in total) with the latest software version - 7.0.220.0.
For APs we're using the 3500 Series (AIR-CAP3502I-T-K9) and the 1200 Series (AIR-LAP1262N-T-K9), also with the latest version (upgraded automatically by the WLC). We have around 200 APs. We have established V LAN's specific for the dynamic interfaces (providing the W LAN's) and a management V LAN's (id 254). Our users are experiencing performance issues with the network, specially when the number of users connected is high (around 1700~2000 users).
Analyzing the packets received by a client, we detected a lot of Gratuitous ARP packages originating from the WLCs, for each APs. According to Wire shark:

Cisco_61:xx:xx is the WLC mac. All these IP addresses (NNN.NNN.254.XXX) are APs.
As you can see, the clients are receiving broadcast related to the APs in the management V LAN (254). In our understanding this traffic should occur only between WLCs and APs. We are already using two separate ports in the WLCs - one for the 254 V LAN (management) and other for the dynamic interfaces (W LAN's).
We have left a ping command running in the client, and have noticed that when the clients receives many of these broadcast the connection fluctuates. Such broadcasts from the management network in the W LAN's are expected behavior?

Apr 17, 2012I have a new wireless configuration on a 5508 WLC. the controller is licensed for 12 AP's. I have plugged 8 AP's into the wireless vlan and 6 out of 8 come up with IP address and connect to the controller, broadcast two configured SSID's all seems good with them, but i have two AP's that do not get IP addresses. they are in the correct vlan i can plug a laptop into the group of ports in the val and get an IP address. So it seems to be just the AP's that don't. if i look at the consol of the AP it says: Waiting for PHY to auto negotiate . then it say timed out and continues to "boot with errors" then it continues to complain that it has no ip address. I have rebooted a few times and changed ports, and patch cables.

Feb 20, 2013I have a pair of WLC 5508's. I am installing 7.4.100 on them and they are properly licensed. I am looking to preconfigure these and ship them to our site. My questions are:
1) How much configuration do I need to setup on the secondary controller (ie. same SSID, interaces, ap group, etc...)?
2) Do I need to configure Mobility groups for this HA Cluster?

Nov 24, 2011I am trying to find an effective way to extend the wireless signal across our home. I have tried various different solutions. Currently, I have an e4200 primary router that is cascaded with two additional e1500 routers that have been configured as access points. The Linksys support team hosted my computer and configured the devices. The e1500 routers are connected via ethernet wires running through the walls. And, this seems to be working well. Here's my question. The e1500 routers are configured with different SSID names, which Linksys advised was required to avoid conflicts in communications from the three router devices. Is there any way to configure this set up or something similar so that the entire wireless network has the same SSID and is seamless. In the current configuration, I have to specifically connect to the primary router or one of the two access points.

Guest Internet Access - Multiple Access Points?

Netgear WNDR3700 - Main router, DHCP turned on
4x Netgear WNR2000 - Setup as Access Points (DHCP turned off), connected to main router via LAN ports
I only want the guest network to have internet access. I have the guest network enabled on the router and access points with the option to "Allow Guest network to access main network" disabled. My problem is that since the access points aren't hooked directly to my modem via the WAN port, the guest network broadcasted from the access points does not have internet access.I have read up on setting up a separate subnet for the guest network using DD-WRT but was curious if there was a way to get the desired result with the stock Netgear firmware.
