Cisco Wireless :: 2600 Series Access Points Compatible With 4404 Controller
Mar 4, 2013
If the 2600 series access points are compatible with a 4404 controller running 7.0.235.3 code? I was looking for a compatibilty matrix for the AP to controller to code comparison but couldn't find one.

We recently acquired a 4404 Cisco controller for our network and have been adding our 1200 and 1130 Access points to the controller. This was accomplished by upgrading the APs to LWAPP and then they would automatically be discovered by the controller and then join. Lately, new 1131 APs that have undergone the same process, are not joining the controller. They are discovered but then the close the connection. We are running a flat network so all devices are in the same subnet.Software Version of the controller 6.0.188.0. [code]

We are having a hard time to console into to the APs using the serial connection (USB to serial converter). We have tried the recommended settings (9600, 8 bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, no flow control (also tried XON/XOFF)) without any success. We are able to connect to 3560 series switches and 5508 WLCs using the same cables, notebook and application (putty, hyperterminal & secureCRT).

I have a customer whom has six LAP1131AG-K9 but no controller and they are interested in one of the new 2500 series, specifically a AIR-CT2504-5-K9 with a 5 AP add-on license to bring total AP capacity to 10. I can't determine clearly if this controller will work for these older AP's prior to them making the jump to 802.11n via the 3500 or 3600 series, looking to the community to confirm.

I know that the deployment guide for 2600/3600 access points states that if you have surveyed for a 3600 deployment, you don't need to survey again for a 2600 deployment. As the the 3600 is the higher specification model, is it safe to assume the reverse? I.e. a site survey carried out using 2600 access points is valid for a 3600 deployment, or is this too simplistic?

I have a customer who bought Cisco Aironet 3500 Series. Currently 4404 WISM Controllers are installed with 1142 Access-Points. The WLC-Version is 6.0.199.
Will the 3500 Series Access-Points work? (Of course without the spectrum intelligence feature)?
The Q&A says the following: Are there any concerns with supporting the new Cisco Aironet 3500 Series Access Points with the older Cisco 2000, 2100, 4100, or 4400 Series Wireless LAN Controllers?

We have a Cisco 2500 WLC with 136 APs. Recently, we discovered eight APs that were not listed on the Wireless > Access Points > All AP list. These APs were once working and connected, but now they are no longer in the All AP list. I located one of these APs and found the green LED blinking. I power cycled the AP and it came back online with a solid green LED and was then registered on the All AP list. The All AP list will only show the connected APs. I would like to know if there is a method to show the APs that were once connected and are no longer registered so we can better identify when an AP is not working?

We have an MPLS (layer 3) network 4 offices and a Data center. We are planning to install about 10 Access Points(3600 series) per office and have a controller(5508 series) in the Data center.
Questions:
1- Is this design possible, in other words, just one controller centralizing all Access point traffic in one controller in the Data center?
2- We would like to accomplish this in two phases:
A- install access points without controller handling authentication thru Microsoft IAS servers (current configuration with 1200 series)
B- Deploy wireless Controller in Data center and start migrating orphan AP to Controllers one office at a time.

I have installed/setup a cisco 2504 wireless controller and 3 aironet 1142 access points using the basic config on a windows sbs 2008 domain, the problem is that the clients that are connected to the 2504 aint getting the there ip addr from the AD but from the wireless controller, and there cant reach the clients on wifi from the clients that are connected to lan, is there anyway that i cant change this so that a client on lan can see the client on wlan and vice versa.

I know that the 3600 series APs are not supported on the 4404 WLC. However, would the following scenario be supported? I would like to use the 4404 (software rel. 7.0) as a guest anchor with a 5508 (software release 7.2) as the foreign controller supporting series 3600 APs. I ask because the APs do not need to join the guest anchor.

We have two wism2 controllers. We have our access points split on the two controllers. I need to move all of the access points on controller 1 to controller 2 so we can perform maintenance on one if our 6500s. Is there and easy way to force all of the access points off the controller without changing any access point configs? I was hoping I could make a change in the controller in such a way that it would not accept any access points. If I had an ap manager interface I think I could do it but that is long gone now.

We are re-designing our wireless network and are navigating the security options. Are design will include a 5508 WLC and 3600 series APs. We plan on breaking our wireless out into four VLANS.Is 802.1x the standard for wireless authentication? What EAP flavor would you recommend for wireless? We will be supporting an environment with a variety of mobile devices (iPhone, iPad, HP tablets, Dell laptops, etc.). We will also be supporting wireless Cisco VoIP phones. Someone suggested choosing between EAP-Fast or EAP-PEAP, does this seem reasonable? Also, if we want to authenticate users using their AD account, we need to have NPS running on the AD server and use the radius protocol from client to server, is that right?

I recently upgraded our controllers to the latest version 7 software, as I read this was one of the requirements to get them to connect. But I am not having any luck getting into a controller. Normally I plug them in to the network, they pop into the controller listed as something like AP5057.a844.xxxx and then I can finish configuring them, but a static IP on them, etc. This is the first of this model AP I have tried to deploy, so I am wondering what is different with these. or what I might be missing in the default config in the WLAN controllers. Niether of which are set to "Master" either.

I've got a client who purchased numerous 3600 series AP's (3602i to be exact) and would like to add them into their WLAN 4404 controller. They're currently on 5.x system code so I plan on getting them upgraded to the latest 7 code.
They currently have a number of AP's adding and working fine. Once the WLAN controller is upgraded, does anything specific need to be done within the WLAN gui to add in these new 3600 series AP's?

I have a Cisco 4404 wireless lan controller managing about 85 AP's.
The wireless side is setup for a private wlan and a public wlan. On the public side, users are directed to a captive-portal agreement page before they can get on the internet. My question is if there is a way for a single client, specified by either mac address or static IP , can be connected to this wlan without being prompted for the agreement page? I would like to setup a wireless printer for guests connected to this public side.

Iam having trouble to conect my 1121-AG AP`s to my 4404 WLC.
My WLC version is 7.0.116.0.
I can see he AP is getting an IP address from the controller(internal DHCP). But from some reason they can`t connect to the WLC. I have tried many things such as:
1)reset to default settings
2) move the AP to Autonumos mode and back to LWAPP mode -- didnt work.
1 of my AP 1121AG is working properly.

Our company has 8 4404-100 Cisco wireless controllers and each WLC has 8 W LANs configured. They are all working fine. However, the WLAN ID sequence is not consistent. I'm wondering if it's possible to change the WLAN ID on these WLCs without (or slightly) impacting the users. I don't want to re-configure all the WLAN profiles.

Customer Requirement:-
1. Customer wants to deploy REmote MEsh APs (1500 Series) with a centralized 4404 Controller at HQ site.
2. The Remote and HQ site is linked thru a leased line with 2 routers in between
Based on cisco's document REAP and HREAP is not supported in LWAPP Mesh APs. So if the Mesh APs were to be deployed at Remote sites (3 total). How this be achieved?

My question relates to how many clients can be connected to a 2600 series AP. The documentation states 200 clients per radio and the AP has three radios. However when my AP gets to 200 it rejects further clients with the following log: [code] I see this exact message many times and each time the radio mac address is the same and the number of clients connected is 199. The same mac address is used for both 2.4ghz and 5ghz so does this AP have a single logical radio covering both 2.4 and 5ghz frequency ranges and is the limit for all connected clients 200?When viewing the AP details under the Wireless tab it only lists one mac address for each AP for both 2.4ghz and 5ghz frequencies.

Is there a method other than client certificates with active directory?

I've recently purchased a 2504 Wireless controller, and I have 10 2600 APs to deploy. I think I've set up the wireless controller OK - there doesn't seem to be much that needs to be done! But I just can't seem to register an AP onto the system.
Just to briefly outline what I have done, I have connected to the Wireless Controller via terminal emulator and run through the setup, then I have connected OK to the web interface, and I am able to view and amend the controller's configuration. So I have setup a WLAN and thats about it.
Next up I have powered on one of my 2600 APs, and I am able to view it working via terminal emulator again. But I am seeing it continually running the same routine to connect to a controller, and all the time it just fails. Below is what I am seeing.
One thing that I am unsure about is that I am unable to connect to the AP config pages via web browser, using the IP 192.168.0.97 (although it does ping okay). Is that odd?
And the main question - why doesn't the AP connect to the wireless controller? Do the APs need to be authroized on the controller first? If I check the controller's web interface, under Monitor - Statistics - AP Join, I can see the AP listed with Status "Not Joined" but I don't know what I need to do to make it join!
