Cisco Wireless :: Setting Up AIR-LAP1252AG-A-K9

Dec 17, 2012

My company recently handed me 2 used 1252 AIRONET APs that they picked up somewhere to replace and add on to the current AIR-AP1121G-A-K9 that are currently used. I've been successfull at connecting via a Serial Connection in an attempt to the AP's IP via the CLI. But further attempts to connect to the AP via a web interface to continue setup have been a failure. After some research, how to confirm that LAP series products can only run Lightweight IOS, hence the need for a CISCO controller, or can I try to flash the firmware to make it into an autonomous AP.

Cisco Wireless :: AIR-LAP1252AG-A-K9 Shows In WCS But Not Associated With Controller

Jan 12, 2012

I have 6 of the 1252 APs that suddenly no longer will associate with any of my 3 4400 controllers. I've verified the power injectors are up and good, shut the port on the switch, and even moved from one power injector to another. Also, in WCS there is a picture of what looks like 3 disks stacked on top of each other, and I don't know what that means.

Cisco Wireless :: Aironet 1250 AIR-LAP1252AG-A-K9 - Change To Autonomous Mode

Jun 11, 2013

I have an Aironet 1250 AIR-LAP1252AG-A-K9 I am having issues with, and I am hoping for some direction on how to resolve them.   I understand this question has been posted many times many different ways, but i have no luck unfortunately. Here is where I am:  I can terminal into the AP, which has been set to factory default, with the username and password and enable password of Cisco.  Once I am in the enable mode, I get lost.

Usually there would be an option to go to config. t, and work from there, but this AP does not have that option, Actually if I do a ? at the enable prompt, the commands list only starts with the letter C; but none are config.

I also cannot get into the web interface of the AP. The AP gets a DHCP IP from my DHCP server, (192.1681.128/24) but I cannot get into the web interface using the IP it gets from DHCP. The page never comes up. To add to the confusion, I cannot turn off the CLI event logging, although I enter the command "no debug all".  Maybe I am off on what to put in.  Nonetheless, it drives me crazy with messages every two seconds as I am trying to type while attempting to figure things out.

Overall, from reading the forums and doing Google searches, I am going on the assumption that the AP is now in lightweight mode, as opposed to autonomous mode, which is where I want it to be.  I have tried the method of updating the firmware to the autonomous firmware from Jan 2013 for the AP. I use the TFTP method as I have found here on the forums a few times; I hold the mode button down while applying power to the AP, let the system LED turn red and release the button so the TFTP process can go through, but nothing changes.

I have the AP powered from a gigabit POE switch. The computer I am using for the TFTP is on the same sub net as the AP. I have tried using 10.0.0.6/24 for the computer with the TFTP on it, made sure the view all file extensions option was checked, and renamed the firmware to the .default extension-still nothing updates.

I also noticed that once I hold the mode button down for 20-30 seconds then let it go, the CLI output says the AP it is on the 10.0.0.x sub net, but I cannot ping the computer with the TFTP program on it.  If i try to, it get a "Command not supported" message. So I will go on the idea that this is most likely why I cannot do a TFTP update.

About 30 seconds after I release the mode button and the AP boots, it will say it has a 10.0.0.x IP address, then it starts going crazy with messages that it cannot find a DHCP server.

Cisco :: Access Point Location Command Invoked - AIR-LAP1252AG-N-K9

Jan 17, 2012

We got some serious issues to get APs running on a WLC 5508 (7.0.116.0). The APs were added and configured in the WCS, but no SSID can be found by clients (802.11b/g Network Status is enabled).

The radio led is blinking green on the APs which indicate that the "access point location command" has been invoked. What's the meaning of that?

Cisco Wireless :: Setting Up AIR-LAP1242AG-A-K9

Nov 11, 2012

I have a CISCO AIR-LAP1242AG-A-K9 Wireless Aironet 1240AG and i do not have any wireless controllers i just want this to act as a AP and not have to depend on any thing else for its config. I can not get the IOS to TFTP over.  Here are the steps i take.

Step 1 The static IP address of the PC on which your TFTP server software runs should be between 10.0.0.2 and 10.0.0.30.  The IP address of the AP is 10.0.0.1.

Step 2 Make sure that the PC contains the access point image file (such as c1200-k9w7-tar.122-15.JA.tar for a 1200 series access point) in the TFTP server folder and that the TFTP server is activated.

Step 3 Rename the access point image file in the TFTP server folder to c1200-k9w7-tar.default for a 1200 series access point, c1130-k9w7-tar.default for an 1130 series access point, and c1240-k9w7-tar.default for a 1240 series access point.

Step 4 Connect the PC to the access point using a Category 5 (CAT5) Ethernet cross over cable .

Step 5 Disconnect power from the access point.

Step 6 Press and hold MODE while you reconnect power to the access point.

Step 7 Hold the MODE button until the status LED turns red (approximately 20 to 30 seconds) and then release.  You will see the IOS file being TFTP to the AP.  Once this is done on the screen reboot the AP by pulling out the power cable.

Step 8 Wait until the access point reboots, as indicated by all LEDs turning green followed by the Status LED blinking green.
Step 9 After the access point reboots, reconfigure it using the GUI or the CLI.

Cisco Wireless :: Setting Up Wireless Repeater Using 1242AG Access Points?

Jul 4, 2011

I have problem setting up wireless repeater using Cisco 1242AG access points. Here is the setup and problem - The location has 2 1242AG APs  and a WLC (2206) which will be used by PDAs. One of the AP was converted to Lightweight AP and is wired. This AP is up and working and PDAs are able to connect to it.  There is 1 WLAN and it uses Local EAP (LEAP) as authentication. Layer-2 security is configured as WPA/WPA-2 with 802.1X authentication. Under AAA servers Local-EAP is enabled and a profile (with LEAP enabled) is used. Local users are configured for login. As said PDAs are able to connect and it is working without any problem.

WLC (LEAP with local users) -----> LAP ----> Repeater AP

But the 2nd AP has to be configured as repeater was configured to repeater mode (refering to the document) and was placed. The WLC can see a client (with APs MAC address) but it is probing. The AP is still Automonous AP. Also username and password is configured for authentication. But still the radio on the AP is not up and it is in reset state.

Cisco Wireless :: WAP321 Setting Up Wireless Network For Small Office

Jan 13, 2013

I'm setting up a wireless network for a small office with 25 people with approx. 15 on wireless at any time. The office is very long and skinny so I'm looking at a cluster of WAP321's. I'm hoping these will save a ton of money versus buying a controller and more expensive access points.

How do these work for roaming? I tried a search but I've found descriptions of them not roaming at all and descriptions of them roaming but you have to do some kind of pre-authorization right up to they roam with no user interaction, they just roam.

I need the users to be able to roam around the office with no interruption. I don't want to install these and have to rip them out later and put in new ones and a controller. How to find out if the WAP321's will work for roaming.

Cisco Wireless :: Setting Up Another WAP4410N As Repeater?

Apr 20, 2011

Currently I have a WAP4410N setup and would like to add a second WAP4410N but as wireless repeater. I want my users to have wireless access without the need to keep changing the wireless connection based on their location within the factory.

The AP Mode on teh WAP4410N gives me the options below, but I am not sure which one is the correct one:

Option 1 - Wireless WDS Repeater
Option 2 - Wireless Client/Repeater

Below is the link from cisco with explanation. [URL]

Also, if have WAP54G, can I setup this unit to be a wireless repeater with the WAP4410N devices? or all repeaters must be of the same model? Existing WAP4410 is setup to operate at Wireless B/G Mixed mode.

Cisco Wireless :: Setting Up WAP4410n As Repeater

Apr 20, 2011

I need setting up a WAP4410n v 2.0.1.0 as a repeater. Warning, this is the first time I have worked with a repeater. I have tested with a netgear router and a Linksys 160n router. Unfortunately I only have the netgear to continue testing with since the Linksys is at my customer’s site. I can get my hands on a Linksys E3200 if I have to. I have tried a number of setting combinations and I still cannot get the signal to be repeated.  So this is what I think the setup should be:I setup the router and the WAP4410n repeater to have the same ssid and channel. For security I first tried to have both the router and the repeater to use WPA2 personal using TKIP then I read that there is a problem using WPA2 with version 2 of the firmware so I then tried using WEP having both the router and repeater using the same key. I selected Wireless WDS repeater mode. I did a site survey and selected my router. Now from what I understand, which is very little, this is all I should really need to do. I have left all of the other settings to the default values. So what am I missing?

Cisco Wireless :: Setting Up Additional 1142 AP?

Jul 27, 2011

I recently purchased another 1142 AP to expand out our current wireless infrastructure, my question is, what exactly needs to be done for this to work so that users can roam freely and auto-connect to the closet AP with the best connection without getting disconnected?

I have set all the settings the exact same on the new AP to match the existing AP. (How to save the configs into a file would be great, I am not sure how to do that)... But anyhow, before I launch it, I would like to be sure I am correct so I do not bring down the existing network. Of course, the only difference between the 2 are the IP addresses. AP1 is 192.168.2.2 and AP2 is 192.168.2.3

All computers are using Linksys Wireless-N cards.

Cisco Wireless :: Configuration For Setting Up WAP4410n As AP?

Nov 24, 2010

Is there a recommended configuration for setting up a wap4410n as an ap?

The reason I ask is that I have an rvs4000 with a wap4410n as ap and a second wap4410n as wds repeater and it seem I have to reboot one or more of them every couple of days due to various users being unable to connect wirelessly or being able to connect wirelessly, but with no Internet access.

Starting with a reboot to facory default, the rvs4000 gave the wap4410n ap an address of 192.168.1.101 so I just left things like that. Similarly, the wap4410n wds repeater was given an address of 192.168.1.103, which I did not change.

Given there seems to be some kind of intermittent problem, would it be better to have the rvs4000 reserve an ip address for the two wap4410n? Note that I did try this, but after adding the two reserved ip addresses (192.168.1.101/103) and clicking on "save", the rvs4000 rebooted and came back up without the two reserved addresses...

Cisco :: Setting Up Wireless LAN Controller 2100?

Feb 7, 2011

I am having trouble on setting up a WLC2100 ver 7. we need to implement a private and public network. private network authenticate to IAS - RADIUS (windows server 2003 server) while the public network is open but when a client connect to AP it will redirect to a 3rd party web athentication - HotSpot Server. the challenge is we want to broadcast a single SSID.

senario:

1. when a user/guest connect to the AP a radius server will authenticate thru IAS - Radius.

2. when a user is authenticate via radius a dhcp server will give an ip address of the private network.

3. if the user is not authenticate a dhcp server will give the public ip address and netowrk traffic must go to a different VLAN.

my question is, is it possible to broadcast a single SSID for the two network? is there a document which is related to our scenario?

Setting Does Not Allow To Use All Wireless Devices?

Jan 19, 2012

Ok my Routers Sercurity Settings are on WPA/WPA2-Personal (PSK). But on this setting it does not allow me to use all my wireless devices. They appear with errors stating that i must change my sercurity settings to WEP. So i tried this, i first changed it to 128bit WEP and it connected to my other devices. But the router suddenly began automatically shutting off its wireless capabilities at frequent random intervals (the LED showing its function shutting off and all wireless internet sources). So i changed it back to my original settings and it fixed itself, but once again i could not access my devices. So i tried using the 64bit WEP option and once again it proved the same results as the 124bit WEP.

I'm obviously concerned with guest access clients but don't know enough how their trafiic is segregated from normal wifi traffic.

Also, when I stand up the controllers the management interface and ap-manager won't be in the same network as where the hosts or LWAP's will reside (routing access will exist though).

Cisco Wireless :: Setting Up Aironet 1142n As Repeater?

Aug 9, 2012

I've just recently purchased the Aironet 1142n and am hoping to set it up as a repeater. I've followed the documentation here: [UEL] but am still having problems.

What I'm trying to achieve is: I have an adsl router (TP-link W8960N) at the front of the house but the wireless signal does not reach all the way to the end of the house. I am trying to set up the aironet 1142n to act as a repeater and place it in the middle of the house and hopefully that will extend the wireless signal to the end of the house and remove the dead spots. I would like to do this without having ethernet cables running all over the place and have been trying to configure the aironet 1142n to no avail. Every time I set the aironet 1142n to "repeater" it automatically coverts back to "access point" under role of radio network.

I guess my main question first of all is, can I set the aironet 1142n as a wireless repeater? And if so, where am I going wrong in my configuration?

I've just read that " Repeater access points running Cisco IOS software cannot associate to parent access points that that do not run Cisco IOS software."

Does this mean the aironet 1142n set up as a repeater will not work if the original access point (in this case, the TP Link adsl wireless router) isn't a cisco brand?
