Cisco :: Setting Up Wireless LAN Controller 2100?
Feb 7, 2011
I am having trouble on setting up a WLC2100 ver 7. we need to implement a private and public network. private network authenticate to IAS - RADIUS (windows server 2003 server) while the public network is open but when a client connect to AP it will redirect to a 3rd party web athentication - HotSpot Server. the challenge is we want to broadcast a single SSID.
senario:
1. when a user/guest connect to the AP a radius server will authenticate thru IAS - Radius.
2. when a user is authenticate via radius a dhcp server will give an ip address of the private network.
3. if the user is not authenticate a dhcp server will give the public ip address and netowrk traffic must go to a different VLAN.
my question is, is it possible to broadcast a single SSID for the two network? is there a document which is related to our scenario?

I have a wireless controller 2100. I can't access it via browser, when I am connected to one of its physical ports. I use the same subnet ip address as that of the management interface of the wlc.

In the near future my company is looking into the option of adding a second network connection (exclusively for customers visiting our facility) to our pre existing WLAN network. We are currently using a Cisco 2100 series Wireless LAN Controller and probably 6-8 APs. Our main connection is made up of 4 T1 lines and the second connection will more than likely be a cheap DSL connection. I'm wondering if this technology supports two separate connections on one controller and APs. For example, is there a way within the controller web interface to separate what is currently our "Guest" connection from the main Internet line? I was thinking of just plugging from the DSL router directly to the controller and save the hassle of changing routing and VLANs.

We have 4 1142N LAPs that I want to divide between an internal wireless and a guest wireless network using the controller. Currently all of the APs are on an established internal network, but I want to migrate one over to a test guest network before buying more LAPs to augment the networks further. Currently the port connecting to the WCS from the 3560 switch is configured as an access port using VLAN 10. Whenever I make it a trunk port carrying VLAN 10 as well as the other ports we will be using for the guest and ap-manager networks, I lose connection with the controller. To me this implies that the port on the controller is configured as an access port as well. In the documentation I found for the controller it states that by default the ports are al configured to be trunks, but it appears as though something was changed by the previous tech. All of the APs are connected to other switches, not to the controller itself.
1) How can I get the port on the controller back to being a trunk port
2) Can I use the internal DHCP server for the guest network if the subnet is different than the management subnet, or will I have to use another external server and relay/proxy it through the controller to give guest clients IP addresses?

I'm trying to test fast roaming using a Cisco 2100 Series controller and 2 1140 APs. The initial authentication succeeds fine and the wireless connection works ok using WPA2+CCKM and LEAP with a Cisco ACS radius server. The problem is that the client does not attempt to preauthenticate with the other AP because the RSN Capabilities IE in the AP beacons and probe responses do not set the RSN Preauthentication capable bit. I can't figure out what it takes to get the APs to indicate to clients that it can do preauthentication. I'm been crawling through all the documentation I can find, to no avail.

I have a Cisco 4404 wireless lan controller managing about 85 AP's.
The wireless side is setup for a private wlan and a public wlan. On the public side, users are directed to a captive-portal agreement page before they can get on the internet. My question is if there is a way for a single client, specified by either mac address or static IP , can be connected to this wlan without being prompted for the agreement page? I would like to setup a wireless printer for guests connected to this public side.

I have a wireless printer on an internal wireless network. I have a laptop connected wirelessly on the same internal network. When both devices are connected to the same network I cannot connect to the printer. If I change my laptop over to the guest wireless or to a wired lan, I can see the printer. I vendor stated that within the 4402 wireless controller there is a setting to allow wifi to wifi connections on the same internal network. I am trying to figure out what that setting is called and where I might look for the setting within the wireless controller.

We are currently using a Cisco 2500 (licensed for 50 AP's) WLAN Controller. There has been a lot of issues setting up the VOCERA wireless badges, thats on going. The question I have is all the AP's are showing as being on Channel 6, it was thought that the controller would learn the enviroment and move these to none overlapping channels, but has not. Is this right should they all be on the same channel and not 1, 6, 11 accordingly? it is also worth mentioning that the controller can see 61 rogue AP's, yes that is 61 other wireless networks!

I've recently purchased a 2504 Wireless controller, and I have 10 2600 APs to deploy. I think I've set up the wireless controller OK - there doesn't seem to be much that needs to be done! But I just can't seem to register an AP onto the system.
Just to briefly outline what I have done, I have connected to the Wireless Controller via terminal emulator and run through the setup, then I have connected OK to the web interface, and I am able to view and amend the controller's configuration. So I have setup a WLAN and thats about it.
Next up I have powered on one of my 2600 APs, and I am able to view it working via terminal emulator again. But I am seeing it continually running the same routine to connect to a controller, and all the time it just fails. Below is what I am seeing.
One thing that I am unsure about is that I am unable to connect to the AP config pages via web browser, using the IP 192.168.0.97 (although it does ping okay). Is that odd?
And the main question - why doesn't the AP connect to the wireless controller? Do the APs need to be authroized on the controller first? If I check the controller's web interface, under Monitor - Statistics - AP Join, I can see the AP listed with Status "Not Joined" but I don't know what I need to do to make it join!

I am currently running a Cisco 4402 Lan controller, I have a Wlan that is running unsecured and i wanted to add a simple web policy log in, so i set up an NPS server on a local DC. I have the two talking . when i go to login at the web login page I get the Error Login Error. When i look at the NPS logs it says: "Network Policy Server granted full access to a user because the host met the defined health policy" . So it has to be in my Cisco set up somewhere seems pretty simple

We have two 2100 WLC's that support 12 access points. One has been sitting in a box for some time, but we're at the point where we need to add additional access points that will put us in excess of the 12 limitation. What is the best way to go for installing the second WLC?

I have a fairly simple WLC 2100 configured to control two APs. We had a power outage a few days ago, and though the WLC was on a surge protector, it did not come back up properly after the outage. The STATUS light sticks at amber and I can't get any console response. At this point I'm not sure what to do except replace the WLC, though I'm loathed to do that as our budget was just cut substantially for next year and we're trying to turn nickels into pennies.

One of our customers have one Cisco WLC 2100 (firmware 5.2) with 4 AP Mesh 1522, in a city deployment. In order to achieve local regulatory, has to implement bandwidth limitations per user.
I got screen captures of WLC QoS Profiles options, with Average Data Rate in Per-User Bandwidth Contracts. So my question is, do I need any other equipment to achieve per user bandwidth limitation? Can it be done with WLC QoS options?

We have a 2100 cisco Wireless LAN Controller which manages 3 APs and assign IP address to clients which connects via wifi. Currently, we are deploying dual stack IPv6 and our consultant stated that our current controller does not support IPv6.
This is rather odd statement because there is an option to enable IPv6 in the advance tab of WLAN. And sometimes clients (win7 and Mac OS X) are getting v6 addresses, able to ping v6 sites, and reach v6 sites successfully. And other times, clients do not..or getting the v6 address for 10-15minutes, then unable to ping/reach v6 sites.
Our consultant is sticking by his words saying it does not support. If this is true, then clients should not be able to get v6 at all....not sometimes and not other times; very inconsistent.
And what is ipv6 pass through? What is ipv6 bridging?

I know that the 3600 series APs are not supported on the 4404 WLC. However, would the following scenario be supported? I would like to use the 4404 (software rel. 7.0) as a guest anchor with a 5508 (software release 7.2) as the foreign controller supporting series 3600 APs. I ask because the APs do not need to join the guest anchor.

We are trying to navigate the waters in choosing between a in-house, controller-based, wireless network solution or a cloud-based solution. We have been presented with the usual suspects in cloud-based (Aerohive, Meracki, etc) and with Cisco (5500) and Aruba on the other side. We are a multi-campus organization with approx. 200 APs.Any hard reasons why go with a controller-based vs. cloud-based solution? If we must keep the conversation limited to Cisco, why go Meracki over Cisco's WLC solutions or vise versa?

I am looking to configure a wired and wireless guest network. I have industrial barcode scanners that connect to one SSID and then there is the business network on the office SSID (no vlan seperation for these devices just different SSIDs). There is not really a need to seperate the business network from the scanners in any case. However, there are needs for a guest network and this needs to be seperated. At the bare minumum I would like to have the wireless guest network. Here is what I have: 2125 Wireless LAN controller managing 18 LAPs (1 indoor and 17 outdoors)Cisco Cat 2950 switches (2 x 24 port and soon to be replaced with 2 x 48 port 2960's with 802.1x capability) Sonicwall TZ210 firewallOne existing wired and trunked vlan for PLC infrastructure. One ESXi hosting Windows server guests (soon to be 2 with vMotion) The reason for the wired guest access network is tp prevent anyone from plugging into the wall jack in the office with thier home laptops or anyone else from being on the same subnet as our domain machines. Granted they would be unathenticaed but there would be no layer 2 seperation and that is what I think would be best.
How would I go about doing this on the wireless controller without an anchor controller just using my existing hardware? I would like to have the Guest SSID only availible in the front office. Is it possible to offer a guest network while still servicing the business network SSID on the same access point? Then might I be able to have the guest network be treated as it should at the controller? However this might present another issue altogether as the guest traffic will be over the same wire as the business SSID until it hits the controller for management.
