Cisco Wireless :: 5508 Setting Up Guest WLAN With Landing Page

Aug 1, 2012

I've been asked to create 2 wireless networks for guest access. They are to be used by clients of 2 different companies and they have asked for the website of each company to automatically open as a landing page. e.g.

-WLAN1 - password is companyname1 - landing page = www.companyname1.com
-WLAN2 - password is companyname2 - landing page = www.companyname2.com

Is this possible with our 5508 WLC? I have googled it and can see that you can set a web auth page but I need different landing pages depending on which WLAN is connected to.

Cisco Wireless :: WAP4410N Does VLAN Tag Setting Need To Be On Tagged To Determine Private From Guest Traffic

Mar 6, 2012

We are trying to setup a WAP4410N with 2 SSID's.  One SSID for our private network and the other for guest internet access.  On the VLAN and QoS page there is a setting for priority.  What would be the suggested values for this setting?  We obviously want our private network to receive priority over our guest network. Also, does VLAN Tag setting need to be on Tagged to determine private from guest traffic?

Cisco Wireless :: 541N WAP Not Connect To Network Using PoE

I recently purchased a couple of these WAPs and also purchases some PoE injectors to connect them.  The PoE injectors supply them with power, but not networking.  I've tried multiple injectors and verified they are not defective.  Is there any type of setting that needs to be adjusted to make this work?  If I power them using traditional methods they work fine.  Here's a link to the PoE injectors that I'm using: URL

Cisco Wireless :: AP 541n Clustered With Different RADIUS Servers

Oct 2, 2012

I have 4 Cisco AP541N access points in a a cluster, and everything has been working great.  We have been directed by our parent company to change our wireless to utilize RADIUS authentication with our wireless.  I have been able to take an AP541N as a standalone (not clustered) and configure it to their standards, configure the 2 RADIUS servers they use with the RADIUS keys I was given for this access point, and everything works great with it.  I was able to get them to setup their RADIUS server (which I have no access to) to allow authentication from the 3 other access points now, but they all have different RADIUS keys.  I'm finding that when they are clustered they all seem to share the same RADIUS key, but I need them to have different ones.

So the question is, can I cluster 4 AP541N access points together, but allow each one to have it's own unique RADIUS key?

If not, then I think I'll either need to get the RADIUS admins to make them all the same key (which is not likely), or I'll have to uncluster them.

Cisco Wireless :: 541N - Models Of AP To Achieve Cluster

Feb 14, 2012

I have one AP541N and need to extend the wireless network with a second wireless AP.  Which models of AP can I use with the AP541N to achieve a 'cluster', please? Is it just with a second AP541N or can I use other Cisco APs to achieve the cluster?

Am I correct in thinking that doing this will allow wireless clients to 'roam' seamlessly between the two APs?

Cisco Switches :: Setting Up Guest VLAN On SG 300-28

Nov 27, 2011

I am primarely enquiring whether the setup I have explained below is actually possible, and if so then how I can set this up. I know it isn't the easiest configuration and I need to set this up without purchasing any more equipment if at all possible.I have a Cisco SG 300-28 setup with three VLAN's. [code] Default Gateway is 192.168.10.1 (Netgear Router)I have a Wireless network setup (Netgear WMS and 2 WAP's) configured with the TWO VLAN's (1 and 3). These go into ports on the Cisco SG 300-28 which are tagged on both VLAN's. The Business wireless worked fine but the guest network didn't reout out to the internet. After some troubleshooting I realised the reason the guest wasn't working was because there was no route back from the internet to the router.

The router I have isn't really ideal, it is a Netgear DGN2200, but I managed to create a static route to 192.168.30.1 with a metric of 2, with 192,168,10.254 being the hop. Success, the connection worked, the only problem is that now my guest network can see my business network because the business network is using the static route on my router to route back over to the guest network (due to the limitations of this device I can't do anything about that)Guest network can connect to Business VLAN via switch. I am assuming this is because the router is on the Business VLAN and the default gateway is the router. As they are on the same network the Guest network can inevetably see the business server and network. The Business network can get back to the Guest network via the router using my static route I created. The static route is really basic and I can't create a firewall rule on the router to prevent the Business network speaking to guest network because it only has a LAN - WAN firewall and this connection is LAN - LAN.

What I need is...to somehow stop any traffic from the 192.168.30.0 network routing to anything on the 192.168.10.0 network, appart from the router on 192.168.10.1.Is this possible? I have this setup on a number of different site, the only difference is I have a CIsco Security Router on these with the VLAN's configured so I don't have this problem. Because I have a rather limited Netgear DGN2200 I am unable to setup the VLAN's correctly and as such I need to see if I can do this on the switch in any way.

DD-WRT Firmware - Setting Up Guest Network

Aug 4, 2011

I have a router on which I installed DD-WRT firmware. I am trying to set up a virtual interface to use as a guest network. The guest network should be on the 192.168.8.0/24 subnet while our LAN is on the 192.168.1.0/24 subnet. The guest network should have full internet access, but no access to our LAN. I think I have everything set up correctly as far as creating the virtual interface and assigning it to a bridge (br1). I am able to connect to the guest network and the client gets an IP on the correct subnet. I am not able to access anything outside the 192.168.8.0/24 subnet however. I'm guessing I need to setup some iptables rules, but I'm pretty shaky with them. Here is what I currently have under firewall:

iptables -I INPUT -i br1 -m state --state NEW -j logaccept
iptables -I FORWARD -i br1 -o $wanif -m state --state NEW -j ACCEPT

Edit, more info: set up a wireless virtual interface (ath0.1) to be my guest network. Under Setup>Networking I then created a bridge called br1 with the ip 192.168.8.1 and assigned ath0.1 to it. I added a DHCP server to the bridge. Then under Services>Services I added the following to Additional DNSMasq Options

interface=br1
dhcp-range=br1,192.168.8.100,192.168.8.200,255.255.255.0,1440m

Finally, I added the iptables rules above to the firewall under Administration>Commands.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 Unstable Guest Connection?

May 14, 2013

Just installed a refurb EA4500 this past weekend after testing it for a week.  The regular wireless network is very stable, but not much faster than my single-band DLink  DIR655.  Guest network seems to drop out from two connected iPhones, and when the connection drops, you have to re-login and type in the guest password everytime.   The linksys firmware is up-to-date( Linksys smart wifi)and so are the iOS on the 2 iPhones.  Just to add, on my old DLink, the guest network comes up secured also, so when you type in the passcode, it remembers it next it comes in range unlike the Cisco, which requires login at a web interface.

Setting Up A Wireless Connection Is Not Allowed

Feb 13, 2013

I just moved into a university residence. Setting up a wireless connection is not allowed - instead we have one ethernet port on the wall. As a result, we can only have one computer connected to the internet at a time via this wired connection. The problem is, I live with my partner and we both need internet access for our separate computers. We both need to be online at the same time. What is the easiest and most simple way to accomplish this? I don't know much about hubs, routers, and switches. I imagine there should be some sort of basic splitting device I could plug into wall which would allow 2 computers to use the ethernet port.

Setting Up A DLAN Wireless Extender Connection?

Mar 18, 2013

find the IP address of the dLAN Wireless Extender so I can go into advanced settings to set up the name, password etc. The Extender config tool provided cannot find it.I replaced my cheap WiFi extender which used to drop the connection all the time with a Devolo dLAN 200 AV Wireless-N Starter Kit, which was highly praised all over the place. How I set it up. The manual clearly states both the single Etherner port plug and the 3-ethernet plug should be slotted directly into the mains sockets which I have done. The smaller, single ethernet plug connects to my Router with the ethernet cable provided. The bigger plug is plugged into a different socket without any other cables attached. The power, house(dLAN), ethernet lights are green on both as well as the Wifi light is green on the extender.I used the dLAN cockpit program to add the Extender by entering the security code on the back, now both of them show up in the Cockpit interface and say "ON". I have the option to change the password for the entire network via the Cockpit, which I did. I assumed that's all the plug & play I had to do to make it work. Wrong. I cannot connect wirelessly at all. The network shows in the available list as devolo-000.......... with full signal, I click it, enter the password, it says authenticating and then drops.

The whole purpose for this is to have an extended Wifi Network around the house where the router cannot reach. But I cannot connect. Now i was reading on Davolo site where it says " You can set up or change the configuration of the dLAN® 200 AV Wireless N via the web interface. To access this interface, simply enter the known IP address of the product into any web browser (e.g.Internet Explorer) or call up the web interface via the dLAN® Cockpit."I also checked that apparently, the newer version, the dLAN 500 has a "config" button in the Cockpit application which takes you directly to the web interface to set up your wifi, but the 200 does not. I do not know what the IP address of the Extender is, I do not know how to reach the interface via my browser. I did have a feeling it had to be done because firstly I wanted to change the name of the Wifi network but couldn't figure out where.

I would also like to add that a program included in the set-up disc, called dLAN Wireless Extender Configuration doesn't seem to find it, so I cannot enter to look at any settings. It pops up with "the dLAN wireless extender was not found. is the dLan wireless extender switched on and properly connected to this computer's local network?"

Setting Up Wireless Router To College Internet Connection ISP

Aug 31, 2011

And I can't print to my wireless printer even tho it says everything is fine when I run the wireless diagnostics. The ISP has these rules:

- Only connect the router to the Internet or Wan port. Do not connect to the numbered ports (how do I know whether or not I've done that?)
- Do not use static IP addresses
- Do not run a DHCP server

Dell :: D820 Steps For Setting Up Wireless Connection To D-Link 1310 Router

Jan 7, 2012

I have just started using my D-Link 1310 Router after quite a few years of it laying around.  I managed to get as far as connecting my D820 and my Desktop in a basic Network.   I have Windows XP Home on both the Desktop and Laptop.  The next step I want to accomplish is making the Laptop wireless with my apartment.  When I first had the Router, I of course had Technical Support and my Warranty with Dell was still active, so I was walked through the process and took notes.  The only file I made note of for this step was installing the driver (US) WLAN Card Rev.A12, but there must be something else that enables the WiFi catcher because I don't have any icon in the System Tray and no way to access it.

I also remember it being necessary to Bridge the Modem and Router, (I believe we did it from the Verizon site).  Though I was told recently that Bridging is not used anymore, now they do a thing called "Double Netting"?
