Cisco Wireless :: 541N - Models Of AP To Achieve Cluster
Feb 14, 2012
I have one AP541N and need to extend the wireless network with a second wireless AP. Which models of AP can I use with the AP541N to achieve a 'cluster', please? Is it just with a second AP541N or can I use other Cisco APs to achieve the cluster?
Am I correct in thinking that doing this will allow wireless clients to 'roam' seamlessly between the two APs?

We have got 3 Cisco APs 541N with firmware version 9.2.2 and want to set up the cluster function for those APs.Here is the problem:Before enabling the cluster you can ping all three APs located in the same local network with a delay of 1ms or below. If the cluster is enabled the pings for one AP rise above 200 ms in a random way (see attached file). Moreover users connected to that AP are more likely to lose the connection or experience delay.Do the APs communicate through LAN or WLAN ?

I recently purchased a couple of these WAPs and also purchases some PoE injectors to connect them. The PoE injectors supply them with power, but not networking. I've tried multiple injectors and verified they are not defective. Is there any type of setting that needs to be adjusted to make this work? If I power them using traditional methods they work fine. Here's a link to the PoE injectors that I'm using: URL

I have 4 Cisco AP541N access points in a a cluster, and everything has been working great. We have been directed by our parent company to change our wireless to utilize RADIUS authentication with our wireless. I have been able to take an AP541N as a standalone (not clustered) and configure it to their standards, configure the 2 RADIUS servers they use with the RADIUS keys I was given for this access point, and everything works great with it. I was able to get them to setup their RADIUS server (which I have no access to) to allow authentication from the 3 other access points now, but they all have different RADIUS keys. I'm finding that when they are clustered they all seem to share the same RADIUS key, but I need them to have different ones.
So the question is, can I cluster 4 AP541N access points together, but allow each one to have it's own unique RADIUS key?
If not, then I think I'll either need to get the RADIUS admins to make them all the same key (which is not likely), or I'll have to uncluster them.

We are considering order the AP541N for our network. A few questions...
1). Are there multiple models of the AP541N? or just one cisco part number?
2). I am assuming the basic antenna comes with it. If this is something that I need to buy seperate.
3). Are there part numbers for the POE injector? Need to know part numbers on the AP541N and the poe injectors?
4). We would buy a couple of these and run them in cluster mode. My understanding is that I won't need a controller. Do I need to buy a certain model to use the clustering or is that available on all the AP541N?
5). Can I have this talk to active directory to authenticate users? Is that tough to do? Do I need install some kind of agent on a domain controller? I have configured the ASA to use Active Directory for authentications. Should it be any more difficult that that?
I have setup a few other Cisco APs before and am generally familair with wireless. But, I am not a "wireless expert" and don't have any experience with this particular product.

I am able to view clients, rogue APs, rogue clients etc, but the information is faily inaccurate. Thus, I am trying to calibrate using the RF calibration models. I have created a new model and am attempting to add data points. After adding the client MAC, selecting the floor plan and clicking next, the floor plan loads and a message pops up stating: "Could not enable S60 across all relevant controllers on this floor". I click OK, and select "point" as the calibration method. When I place the calibration point on the map and click GO I am presented with the following message: "Failed to initiate data collection. Please make sure your client is connected on the wireless network and then try again." Both of these messages can be seen in the attached screenshots.
I have confirmed that the client is associated to an AP located on the map.I have confirmed connectivity of the client.I have used both the Cisco AIR-CB21AG-W-K9 (CCX V5) and the integrated intel wireless card (CCX V4).I am running WCS 7.0.172.0, MSE 7.0.201.204, and WLC 7.0.116.0.

I'm adding some additional AP's (3502s) to an environment that is all 1131AG AP's. The DHCP is configured for DHCP option 43 for remote sites for layer 3 discovery. Since only one AP mode can use option 43, I've added a DNS entry for cisco-lwapp-controller in my local domain. My assumption here is that the new 3502's will be able to use DNS for discovery, while any additional 1131AG would continue to use DHCP option 43. will this work in a mixed environment? The new AP briefly showed up on my controller, but then disappeared. The LED is cycling red, green, off - indicating it is still in the discovery process. Could I effectively remove the option 43 in DHCP and have all AP's use DNS? Is this as reliable as option 43? What is the best practice for discovery?

what the maximum Data Througput can be for this router. Right now, the router is limiting my internet speed compared to what the cable modem can provide..So far, I know that when I connect my computer directly to the output of the Motorola Cable Modem and run a Speed Test on my Charter cable connection, the test shows ~ 50 Mbps for downloads and ~5 Mbps for uploads. That would be great, but I have multiple computers and need to use a router/gateway to feed my LAN. When I insert the RVS4000 router between modem and computer, the Speed Test results drop to ~ 16 Mbps for downloads and remain ~ 5 Mbps for uploads. During that test, there were no other computers online via the router. While 16 Mbps is not shabby, I would like to achieve the full value... is that possible?
Is the RVS4000 unit capable of 50 Mbps for 30 Mbps? How do I setup the router to achieve the maximum available download speed? There is a setup page for the router which has settings right now set at 50000 Kbps Upload and 60000 Kbps for Download; this implies to me that the router is capable of such speeds.

I currently have 2 WAN links, a 20MB Ethernet BGP MPLS and a bonded T1. I have a 2800 at each end configured to automatically fail over to the T1 in the event that the MPLS goes gown. I put a high AD on the T1 connection with static routes. If the MPLS goes down the T1 does kick in, however users are dropped from their applications and VOIP calls are disconnected.
I was looking into Fat Pipe appliances and they supposidly will fail over a connection without any packet loss - therefore not dropping a VOIP call or kicking anyone off the database application. In addition they will provide aggregated bandwidth.
Is there any way to achieve a similar failover without packet loss with just the routers? Do I really need to purchase the Fat Pipe to achieve this? Are there any alternatives?

I have a CISCO RV220W Wireless router, running the latest firmware (1.0.1.0) and CISCO's AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client v3.0.2052, and Windows 7, 64 bit. My laptop is a corporate based work laptop, and I am trying to use it to connect to my home network ( CISCO RV 220W ).
When I try to connect my PC via the wireless network (to the CISCO Router), via CISCO's AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client, the WiFi connection never actually takes place - rather the CISCO AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client s/w interface suggests that it is "associating" and seems to go into an endless loop. It never receives a DHCP address from the CISCO router. ( see attached picture ).
If I disable the "Cisco AnyConnect Network Access Manager" service, as well as the "Cisco AnyConnect Network Access Manager Logon Module" service within Windows 7, I have no problems establishing a WiFi network with my CISCO router via the traditional Windows approach of connecting to a WiFi network. The inability to connect wirelessly comes back, when these services are re-enabled. It appears to me (a layman) as if the "Network Access Manager" layer is preventing connection to the CISCO router via WiFi.
I have no problems connecting to the CISCO router using CISCO AnyConnect Secure Mobile client over a physical Ethernet cable. I also have a Belkin branded Wireless router that works perfectly with the CISCO AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client. All of the wireless settings on the CISCO RV220W router are factory default.
how I can get the CISCO AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client to play nicely with the CISCO Router when I wish to establish a WiFi connection?
I have also attached the Windows based Event Log associated with this trouble shooting - associated with the "Network Access Manager" logging. SSID C&C@Home is the CISCO Router, whilst SSID Cam@Home is the Belkin wireless router.

I use WS-C3560G-24TS and try both ios 12.2.50.SE1 and 12.2.46.SE but problem the same. The config as following,
interface GigabitEthernet0/1
no switchport
ip address 1.1.1.2 255.255.255.0
[code].....
but I find the int g0/1 output traffic only can achieve about 500kbps then I try config below,
interface GigabitEthernet0/1
no switchport
[code]....
I find int g0/1 output traffic only can achieve about 5Mbps,but if I change "srr-queue bandwidth limit xx" command xx to 20-90,the int g0/1 can achieve normal traffic bps, for example,
interface GigabitEthernet0/1
no switchport
[code]...
the int g0/1 output can achieve 2Mbps that is correct, just only when limit set to 10%,the traffic only can achieve half of limit bandwidth.

I have a cluster of 5 AP541Ns. I accidentally started the auto update of IP addresses based on reduction of interference, and it changed the wireless channels on all of the APs. I disabled it, but he channel settings did not change. Now if I remember correctly, before making this setting, they were all on the same channel, 6. Should they all be on the same channel? If so what setting or procedur do I have to do to get them all back on the same channel? (do I have to manually set the channel?)

We are looking at doing some switch replacement. These switches will be in for ~7 years. We need POE for a VOIP phone system, and 10gb uplinks back to the core. We want to have the ability to go POE+ in the future.
We were quoted from our vendor for:WS-C3850-48P-S with 2x715w Power supplies. It looks like the data sheet says that to get POE+ you need 2x1100w or 1x1100w & 1x715w. Do we need to step up to the WS-C3850-48PF-S?

ACE 4710 deployment model. We'll be doing an eval later in the year, but I'm just looking to understand the architecture. We have a stack of 3750 switches with a single VLAN (10.1.1.0/24). Connected to that stack is a pair of web servers (10.1.1.5 and 6) that we want to provide load balancing/failover for. Some of the clients are located right there on that same VLAN. Other clients may be coming from other spots in the infrastructure. It sounds like I could put a pair of 4710s connected to that stack of switches, in a single arm deployment? And then the virtual IP and the real servers would all be 10.1.1.0/24. Maybe use an etherchanel to connect each 4710 to two 3750s?

I am trying to decipher the differences between the two models of the 1921 router. One has an IP Base IOS and the other has a Security IOS. I have an ASA so I don't think I need all the Security IOS bells and whistles on an internal router. Although, does the IP Base IOS allow for trunking and sub interfaces? I definitely need that and on CDW's website it says that the 1921-Sec/K9 w/ Security IOS includes 802.1Q and that spec is not listed on the 1921/K9 IP Base IOS model.

We currently had to RMA both PIX 525s due to increasing crc errors. After swapping the old ones with the new we are still seeing crc errors on all gig interfaces. We have swapped the gig nic's and the sfp's and the fiber patch cables, yet still the crc errors continue to climb.
Another thing that's interesting is that when we disconnect the secondary we see an increase in throughput.
