Configuring A Windows Server 2008 Standard For Small Company?
Apr 3, 2012
I would like to know the basic configurations for Win Server 2008 Standard for a small office (60 clients) The company has a Sales, HR, warehouse, and Accounting, and VPN for some sales, what configuration do you recommend me for each area? Right now my server has DHCP, DNS, and AD (do I need to install any other role?), Also what other configuration do I need in order to control my clients and users, and for security? how can I make the clients to save their files in my server? or make a copy of their files from their computers to my server? Any information for security? in my server or Router?
Like the tittle say, I just want to know all the configurations needed in a network for a small company.
I´m looking at this document: [URL] and I´m not clear if Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard with SP1 is supported. The documentation refers to Windows 2008 Server SP2 and Windows 2008 Server R2, but I see no specific mention to Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard with SP1.
Does LMS 4.0 support Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition (64-bit )?Is necessary for a fresh installation to download and install the Windows 2008 R2 patch?
I just setup ACS 4.2 on windows 2008 standard server. I noticed that after a while, i could not launch the ACS from desktop. All services are up, i have restarted server a couple of times....The Program appears to launch and the disappears..
I want to configure ad agent on windows server 2008 R2 SP1 with all need patch installed. When i try to connect to DC with adacfg dc list, status is UP. Log ADOBserver's don't show any errors. But when try to do command "adacfg cache list", result - empty. In what may be the problem? Perhaps it is related to the language of the OS?
Can I install win2008r2 standard to a 500gb usb ultra portable harddrive and connect it to my net book and run it ? I am studying for the MCITP and want to use it for that purpose?
We have bought lms 3.2 and window server 2008 r2 standard. Now we know, it cant be used together Could we upgrade to lms 4.0.1 ? If so, how can we do ?
We're installing LMS 3.2 on a VM machine running Windows 2008 Standard edition (64 Bit).
You cannot install CiscoWorks LMS 3.2 application(s) on an unsupported operating system or when Terminal Services is running on the supported Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition, Windows 2008 Server Enterprise Edition,Windows 2003 Server Enterprise edition, and Windows 2003 R2 Server Platforms. The setup program will exit when you click ok.You must either upgrade the operating system on the server to a supported version or install LMS 3.2 application(s) on another server that runs a supported operating system.
I've disabled all RDP sessions and ANTI-Virus Software. The documentation states 2008 server Standard (64 bit) is supported.
I am running a smaller hosting company and i am currently looking at a Cat6506 switch with a SUP720 Supervisor Engine. I have also been looking at a Cat6509 with a SUP2-GE Supervisor Engine. At the moment i am getting my connection from a ISP but i am going to get my own BGP AS now.. My question is just, how much will the SUP720 be able to route, and how many routes will i need to get it to route my packets in and out of my AS? I have seen that the full BGP table is over 400,000 and the SUP720 is only capable of 256,000, but do i really need the full table? I
major differences between the SUP720 and SUP2-GE Supervisor Engines?
I planned for my customer to replace his old LMS 4.0.1 server under Windows 2003 by a new server under Windows 2008 R2.Customer wants also to set a new LMS name and IP address for the new server under Windows 2008 R2 and keep both servers on the network.I'm wondering what could be the best procedure to do that migration. Can I used backup / restore procedure in that case ?If yes, what file must I modify to adapt the new LMS configuration to new hostname and IP Address ?
Is it possible to have my file server only accessable in the LAN. I would like to block all inbound/outbound traffic outside of the LAN. I back up all of my personal files to that server and some contain sensitive information.
I have a client who does not use exchange, and doesn't need any of the SBS features.Their server is aging and are running out of disk space.
I'm in the process of building them a new file server and am considering using Server Standard 2008.I am even going to take them off the domain and make their server strictly a file server for Peacthree. It is the only reason they even need a "server".
I have install the administration toolpack on Windows 7 and enabled remote connections on my server 2008 box, When i try and connect with my Windows 7 server manager it does not work.I see stuff on google about enabling a trustedhost with winrm but can't find a way to do this.
I've been reading that the Windows Server Backup that is included with Server 08 R2 is pretty good. Is spending $400 on a third party utility worth it?
I'm asking because we're purchasing a new server soon and I want to know if the included backup is going to be good enough. Will be backing up server state as well as data to tape and possibly an off site server (server 2003) if I get my way.
I am running a small network of 30 pc. I have installed windows server 2003. Now i want to upgrade it to server 2008 but before that i want to test windows server 2008. That is why i,m looking online for a copy of windows server 2008 with reg key. Is there any good and trusted place to get windows server 2008.
I have a dedicated windows server 2008 r2 enterprise.I am running an SSTP VPN but only have 2 IP address to connect to the internet on.My issue is that one of the IPs is for the IIS7 etc and the other is for VPN use.How can I apply the same IP to more than one user allowing them to connect all at one. There are in total about 5 users who want to use the VPN service and I dont really want to pay.How do I apply the same IP to all accounts and allow them to connect and all use the same IP at once.
I am involved in a huge project that requires Servers PCs to function as Routers in schools to prevent broadcast traffic issues (Thread here: Need Professional Advice on 3 MANs implementations - Long story short: Can't buy regular routers because of budget and neet to use current equipment to make the network work, that is, Windows Servers 2008 with 2 NICs.
Now to the point. We are making tests but can't make Static routes to work properly. Design is as follows:
Now we have seen that we need to use this command (in cmd) to add a static route in W2008:
route add [NETWORK DESTINATION] mask [SUBNETMASK] [GATEWAY] if [NIC]
Q1: What exact command(s) do we have to use to make the Laptop in 10.10.10.0 to access Internet? How would you fill those fields based on the diagram? Q2: How many Static routes do we need to declare? I am guessing we just need one, but I have been told that I need to activate two (one for packets sent by the laptop to the router, and one for the packets sent by the router to the laptop?)
We have tried several combinations and can't make laptop to access Internet, not even to ping 192.168.1.5. We have just accomplished pinging to 192.168.1.181 from the Laptop, and to ping 10.10.10.2 from the Server but that's as far as we went.
I can't join a Windows 2008 Server from client computer running Windows Vista Business Edition. I get the message "Network path not Found" yet I can ping the server and the server can ping my computer.
I have a home server that I'm using to host a site with a domain purchased from Go Daddy. I understand how to set up a static IP address on Win Server 2008, but my provider will not allow for me to purchase a static IP because I'm a home customer, not a business. My question is this: should I just ipconfig my ip address every seven days and then change my server's address? Is there a software alternative? Is it necessary for me to change it at all?
I want to run my own web server. i have Windows 2008 Server R2. we hv one router for internet and it is linked with switch. 30 computer are running on local LAN and getting Internet. now my ISP give me a block of IP. i want to give it to web server. what is the simplest way to use that IP and my web server is Online and also all user have to access to Internet.
Does WCS 5.0 run on Windows 2008 Server. Does it run on a 32 or 64-bit OS? The WCS datasheet does specify that it can be easily installed on VMware Systems. Does it mean it can be virtualized.
Any here ever used a Windows Server 2008 Core installation? Got one running on a VM right now, thought I'd try it. After installing VMWare Tools things really speeded up. Now gave it a static IP, installed Active Directory services (DNS along with it) and everything seems to work. The RAM usage is about the same, but so far it's been much more responsive, and it takes a lot less disk space, it needs just under 3GB for the moment. Any else here have one running, or seen one in a production environment? I don't think they're very common yet.
im having problems getting desktop folder redirection to work on windows 7 machinesI have users set up just with local profiles but want to redirect "my documents" and "desktop" directories to the server. I have set up the gpo's on the server and it all works fine propergating to the xp machines but the windows 7 machines just wont take the desktop redirection. However "eventually" it did take the "my documents" redirection policy
I have a windows 2008 foundation server at a clients property and they wish to have users access shares on a data drive that is seperate on the server.I have the server setup with active Directory Users and logon scripts to their local shares on the data drive but need to setup VPN so they can use their mapped drives at home.
i am setting up a network with a server able to run windows server 2008 and using duo core computers as work stations. Will it work with using windows 7 as the operating system for the work stations?
I have an office with a network that I have no control of. I can't access the router to make changes at all. The router does have a real IP address. There is a server on this network that I need to access through remote desktop. (Terminal services on Windows Server 2008)Normally I would just pass 1723 through the router and set up VPN. Without control of the router I am lost. I really don't want to use services like Logmein or Gotomypc, because these control the console.
I run a tiny home domain with 1 Windows 2008 R2 server and 2 clients (one for me and one for the hubby). Our server is DC, DNS, and DHCP server (and some other roles). Our clients are both Windows 8 but we use the standalone Chrome installation, version 25.0.1364.152 m.The problem is that on my Windows 8 client, every once in a while (not the same time period each time, but roughly every 6-15 days) I get the error in the title on one site when using Chrome only, which is Gmail. I can access and resolve Google and every other site, and my DNS server itself can resolve Gmail, but not until I flush the DNS of my local client will Gmail work again. Also strangely, I have left it on the morning when it happened before, and when I came home from work it had sorted itself out. The other client, hubby's Win 8 PC, also sometimes gets this issue, but not nearly as often as I do. Flushing the local DNS cache resolves it for him as well.
I used my ISP's DNS servers for forwarding initially, but changed to Google's 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 when this kept happening, and it didn't seem to make a difference. I've enabled scavenging and aging and all sorts and those are faithfully renewing themselves as expected, but as the problem only lies on the clients and never the server, I'm quite lost as to what to try next.I've had a look on the Chrome forums (gulp) and nothing seems to be as specific as this fault
I just finished setting up VPN server on my Windows 2008 server. I defined the users that should be able to access the server and applied permissions. When I test the VPN connection on the LAN (loacally) I have no trouble connecting and establishing VPN connection. However when I tried externally it's a different story. I am not able to connect and always get the same not so clear 800 error ...The remote connection was not made because attempted VPN tunnel failed. I have Zyxel router for my internet connection and I have forwarded all relevant ports I think for the protocols I am using. Port such as 1723,1701,1702,47,50,51,500,1293,443,4500 are forwarded to the server.I am able to telnet to the server on port such as 1723.
