View 1 RepliesMy laptop (Lenovo g560) runs windows 7 Home ed. About 3 months ago my parents changed the wifi password and so my laptop was unable to connect to our home internet, and I never bothered to fix it. It's been 3 months and now when I need to connect, it won't. The network appears in the list of detected networks, i correctly typed in the new requirements of the SSID, and when i press 'connect' it instantly pops up with 'Windows was unable to connect to XXXXXXX'. The modem is from Netgear. I've tried switching the modem off and on, the wireless activation swith on my laptop off and on, the Fn+F5 for wireless and bluetooth off and on, reinstalled drivers etc.I know its not a problem with my modem as wifi works for other mobile devices (like my iphone, other laptops etc), and my laptop has no problem connecting to the uni wifi network. There only seems to be a problem with connecting my laptop to the home network. Perhaps i've tried fiddling around with the 'properties' of the network too much and I've accidentally changed some settings i was not supposed to? how to restore the wireless settings of this network 'back to default' or in the state it was when i was able to connect.

I'm guessing there is a way of connecting to the wireless on my laptop in this room, connect the laptop to the tv via an ethernet cabe, and bridge the connections or something so that my tv gets the internet from the laptop. That's gotta be possible, no? When I try it tho, the connections bridge, but the tv says "Gateway is not connected, gateway address wrong or unavailable". Using auto IP.
I am having internet connected to my Desktop with Win XP. Internet mode is Wireless Data Card that can be inserted into USB port. Now I have a laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium. I was able to connect both of them using ethernet cross over cable and successfully enabled file sharing through Local Area Network. But I want to access Internet from the laptop. Is it possible?
FYI, when I typed ipconfig in cmd prompt in desktop,

I have toshiba c600 a259 with core i3 processor. the laptop is great but it has one big problem with the network wireless card.. everytime i try to connect to my home wireless network the computer freeze and i have to press the power button to turn it off. however i tried connecting to another network somewhere else and it worked fine. There is nothing wrong with the wireless network router because other laptops can connect to this network. my toshiba also can connect to interrnet if i plugged it directly to the router. My wireless network card model is: atheros AR9002WB-1NG

Can access all the connections with a different laptop but not my lenovo so I know it is not a problem with the routers.Tried doing a system restore, tried disabling the network device then re-enabling it, tried switching the wireless on and off as well as restarting the laptop but no luck.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently was given an old computer from work. I tried to connect it to the internet at home but it wouldn't connect. The icon at the bottom shows that it is connected but the web browser shows that i'm not connected. All the computers at work are connected to a network so there may be some settings that won't allow it to connect at home. I did go on to internet options under connections and changed the default connection from the work network to broadband but still no luck. None of the proxy boxes were checked either. The OS on this computer is Windows XP. Also, all connections to my home internet are fine.

View 5 Replies View RelatedOk so our company has a VPN set up on our workstation laptops for employees to be able to connect to the office network from home.We use CISCO VPN CLIENT, and a pre-setting .pcf file to upload our vpn into the client. The settings are correct completely to allow the VPN to work from home. All of our older workstations (Latitude D510-D630's) work with Windows XP SP3 32b. Recently i purchased new laptops (Latitude E6410's) and have started issuing them out with Windows 7 Enterprise 64b.A couple employees from home cannot get their VPN to work correctly at home with the New Laptops. Their old laptops work fine with the VPN, but the new ones dont. They are running a Frontier DSL modem with wireless. The VPN connects just fine on the new laptops, but the problem is... Nothing works. Outlook does not connect, They cannot access any of our network shares or drives. And cannot use any of our company's software that requires our network access.
I tried uninstalling the the CISCO Client, and reinstalling it, No Go.I tried changing the MTU Settings on the client and network adapters and wireless adapters, No Go.And it seems to be just an ISSUE with employees trying to VPN through a dsl connection using the new laptops, where others with the new laptops can VPN in fine through a time warner connection. But remind you, their old laptops work fine.. which seems kind of odd to me.
I have an issue with my work laptop connecting to my home network. It will connect to the internet but only briefly and then the connection is dropped. I reset or repair the connection and I can get it to re-connect but then it drops again after only a minute or two. I tried to connect it to the router directly with a cable (turned wireless off) and had the same issue. This laptop has no issues connecting wirelessly at work or to other wi-fi networks I have tried. I have another laptop in the house that has no issues connecting to the home network & internet. The issue seems only to be with this laptop at home. The laptop is a Dell using 64 bit Vista. The router is a D-link DI-524, 802.11g router and I have a DSL connection.

I'll start by mentioning the network devices installed and then I'll mention the steps I took from the PC all the way to the furthest point on the network.
I have a Verizon FIOS wireless router connected to a Linksys wireless router. The WAN port on the Linksys is connected to one of the 4 ports on the verizon router. The WAN side is on the 192.168.5.0 network and the LAN side is on the 192.168.1.0 network. So here's what I did on the PC:
- I enabled RDP by right clicking "Computer" and enabling remote access.
- I also changed the default RDP port in the registry to 49152
On the Linksys router:
- I am forwarding port 49152 to the IP address of my PC (192.168.1.xx) for both TCP and UDP
On the Verizon router:
- I have the firewall settings set to minimal (i did this so that the Linksys can act as the firewall)
- Even though I set it to minimal, I still configured it to forward port 49152 to the WAN port of the Linksys router (192.168.5.3) for
both TCP and UDP
What am I doing wrong? Could it be something on the network at my job blocking it or something with my configurations?
I have a linksys system WRT54G at home. I had no problems with the Linksys router until about a month ago when I decided to make it a secure network. I run three computers of the wireless router (1 desktp and 2 laptops) Since making the wireless network secure I can not connect with my business laptop IBM Thinkpad X40, but thother e computers work just fine.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently set up a VPN on my home computer. I am wondering if it is possible for me to connect to the internet via the VPN without also being connected to the internet via my home wireless network? Right now, whenever I disconnect from my home wireless network, my connection to the VPN will also cut off. This is a problem because should my connection via the VPN ever be interrupted, my home wireless connection would then "take over" the connection, and the eb sites I'm visiting would then be able to see my real IP address, which makes having a VPN pointless. I'd like to have it so that if my VPN connection is interrupted, I will simply not have internet until the VPN connection comes back.

In the upstairs study we have two desktop computers connected to the router via the wireless network. I have a laptop computer used around the house and garden which also uses the wireless network.A laser printer and an inkjet printer are both connected to one of the computers in the study via USB and are shared with all computers. This means that the computer with the printers connected must by running if anyone requires prints. Both printers have USB and Ethernet ports – but running a network cable to the router downstairs is impractical. Is there a way of connecting the printers directly to the network and leave them powered up so they can be used by any of the computers. I am hoping that there is some extra hardware that will enable me to do this perhaps via wireless.Or – would it be possible to use mains Powerline Network adaptors – with one adapter connected by Ethernet cable to the router and other adaptors connected by cable to each printer.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble keeping my lenovo laptop (running windows 8) connected to the internet. I have been able to connect successfully to multiple wireless networks and access the internet until I tried to connect to the new network.Initially everything is OK - I can connect to the network and access the internet. However after a short period of time (anywhere from a few seconds to 20 minutes) the network connection will change to limited, without internet access. If I simply disconnect and reconnect to the network the internet will immediately be working again (at least for a few seconds/minutes)alternatively, if I run the troubleshooter, I always get the message that the default gateway is not available, which has been fixed by resetting the wi-fi adapter.
