Ok, some time this week the strength of my wireless signal has been greatly degraded. I have not had any problems connecting to the router in the past at any location in my house. Now if I am 20 feet away I barely have 1 bar of signal.
I have tried changing channels, and rebooting the router. It has not improved.
I have had a DIR-655 router for a few years now, but slowly over time the wireless output has gone down. I have tried changing parameters to only-g or only-n, rebooted, changed other parameters based on what I have read in some of the forums, but have not been able to restore the power. It has an ANT24-230 antenna, and the latest firmware update 1.35NA. Different devices all show the same thing, that even next to the antenna the strength is only 80% in spite of the fact that the wireless output is set to max.
even though I have been working on this for a couple of months now, and am considering buying a new 11AC or 900N router if this is not fixable.
Recently bought a new Dell XPS8500; it's connected to my Linksys WRT160N router. After running some speed tests in the evenings I noticed I'm only getting around 2Mbps download speeds. In the mornings I'm getting around 20Mbps download speeds (using the same tests). Could this huge difference be caused by my service provider and/or amount of people online in the evenings? Is there anything in the router settings that could/should be adjusted? Below are the release notes for the new firmware version:

I noticed my wireless connection was decently fast for my needs which was 13-15 up /5 down. I am in the next room from my study and around <10 ft away from the modem in the study. However today the internet was extremely slow for everyone in the house so I went to reset the modem. After resetting the modem I noticed that the internet speed went a bit up and so I used speedtest.net to see how fast the connection was in the study. The computer in the study is connected with a ethernet cable to the modem. I was amazed that the speed in the study was nearly double the amount. I understand that wireless connections are undoubtedly slower than a wired connection, but is it normal for the speed to drop by half when I am <10 ft away from the modem?

By very short I mean, it works well within the hall (10 meters), but as soon as I enter another room, it drops and doesn't work behind closed doors or through walls. Also its next to a staircase, and wont work as I go downstairs and into a room.
I tried testing a D-link (N) router, and an Older Linksys (G) router, but all of them seem to be suffering the same problem. My wired connection is performing very well, and this prob is with Wifi only.

I took my router with me to visit family at Christmas. It wouldn't allow the wired computer through the switch, but yet I could talk to the router with my laptop. Rather than reconfigure, I bundled up my router & laptop and let well enough alone.Now that they're all back at my house, I can't reliably get the laptop to connect - Low Wireless Signal error. I've reset the modem & router repeatedly. Tried Channels 1,6, 11 and 8&9 too. n only, as that's my laptop's. On 2 occasions it has connected, rebooted and auto connected and run for 4-5 hours. Then it's gone. I've beat this mess for 3-8 hours per day, for days...!!!Laptop(Vista) connects to every other wifi I've tried. It's sitting 4 ft from the router.

I have a D-link DIR-655. Which that along side with my modem is located downstairs. The upstairs living room has a crappy signal where loading videos becomes painfully slow. Awhile ago, I just tried to relocate my router upstairs and just drill a hole for a CAT cable to slip through to the modem downstairs from my room(as my room is directly above the router)...3 useless holes later, for whatever reason it is impossible to drill through. What are my other solutions?

I only have a laptop and I had it set up so I had wireless on it, and was able to get wireless on my smartphone as well. All of a sudden the wireless stopped working and now I can only connect to the internet with the router plugged in to my laptop. I just updated my wireless driver and have tried the 192.168.0.1 thing so many times and nothing seems to work. I also exchanged my router for a new one and that worked for about a week and then stopped working again. This happened once before and it didn't work for a couple days and then I woke up one morning and it worked again.

I have an issue with my TL-WDR4300 (regular, internet sharing use, no Open WRT or similar things). It was working well, until one day that my devices only receive the 2.4 GHz signal (no 5 GHz) and then I try to connect to 2.4 GHz and it asks for a password. I put my regular password and it doesn't work. Then I tried to bring it to factory default settings, I push the reset button for 8 seconds as the manual points and then same thing. What could I do?
Is possible to setup DIR-655 as a Wireless receiver passing the signal to the other devices by ethernet?

I bought today new TP-Link TL-WR740N and I connected it with my cable modem as it is in manual instructed. There is problem with outgoing signal from router. It is about 1/10 from it should be (it is around 2Mbps from 20 Mbps). Same speeds are going out from router through LAN port and WiFI signal.
I have a dir-655 xtreme N gigabit router with 2.03NA version firmware. The wireless signal will suddenly and randomly disappear from my laptop. No matter what I try, the signal strength never gets better that 30%, even when I have my laptop next to the router. I have tried various settings (found in these forums), but nothing seem to work. My old D-Link performed better, both close and over distances.

Got 1 Linksys WRT54G Router on the ground floor which uses PTCL DSL Internet and 1 D-Link Wireless N Gigabit Router on the first floor which uses World Call Cable Internet of my house. So yeah we have two internet connections.Getting weak signals from both of the routers in my room on the far left side of the house and little to no signals in the basementSo what I want to ask is that should I purchase better routers or should I go with a signal booster of some sorts like an Access Point or a Range Extender?Also is there such a device which would catch signals from both of these differently configured routers ( different internets, different wireless security keys etc ) and then boost them throughout the house if placed in an area where both the router signals are strong?

This is the 2nd WR702N I have purchased. The first worked as a repeater for a short time and then failed with the fading symptom. I returned it. The second did not work as a repeater even for a short time. The signal is OK for a few seconds and then fades out. I updated the firmware.

I received this router today, I have a MacBook Pro and a iPhone. The router came with a very small cd, I was very disappointed because , when I purchased this router from amazon , the discription read that this router is Mac compatiable. But that is not true if the cd is not compatiable! My problem is I get a good signal for wifi, but I can not open any websites with my Mac or my iphone.

Laptop signs into hotel/resort wifi and completes sign-in page. Share wifi signal with TP router via an ethernet cable. TP router acts as hotspot for connection by other devices. This is the method this Apple based article suggests:

I have tried this with Windows 7 using a bridge between the laptop wifi and lan adapters. But I must be doing something wrong.
The other option is to use ICS, but not sure then if the hotel's system would see additional devices. (we are limited to 4 where we stay, but exceed that when family visits!)
First discovered this problem because I was unable to connect to a particular web site that was functional according to a friend that I was talking to on the telephone while trying to connect.
Problem: Network UPLOAD speed is randomly reduced from 2Mb to 600Kb while download speed seems unaffected (Abt. 30 to 50Mb). First eliminated the router, modem and cables as suspects working with ISP tech support. CAT 5 cabling to router and cable modem. Then I discovered that another machine on the network did not have this problem. I then discovered that disabling the network and re-enabling the network cured the problem.....temporarily. Downloaded and installed latest NIC driver from MB web site. No solution. Downloaded and installed latest NIC driver from Realtek web site. No solution. Updated MB BIOS. No solution.

Disabled TCP/IPV6. No solution. I suspect it is one of the "Advanced" settings for the Realtek PCIe GBE, but I don't know what they do. Anytime I disable and re-enable the network adapter my upload speed returns to normal. I haven't been able to isolate a particular action that causes the slow-down. The attached pics show speed test, before and after disable - re-enable network adapter. Same server.

I have low signal range from this WDR4300 router on both bands and especially on 5Ghz i lose my connectivity on just few meters away from the router and on other rooms in my 80m2 apartment, i also own another tp link 740n with only one antenna and the range is better with it almost covers all my apartment. Router has been reset after being updated to latest firmware and tried different configurations but im not satisfied with the signal range. Is there something i can do.
I'm getting currently installing a full Valcom IP sound and clock system , along with all new Cisco 2960 gig ps-l switches. All devices run off of POE. In the past, I have read that most AP's only draw approx. 12.5 watts (va's). But you must take into account length of wire to add your additional draw which puts you at the 14.5 they auto draw. My question being that the clocks I have auto draw 15.4 watts, which is eating up my 370w of power on my switches. The spec sheet on the clocks show only a power consumption of 4.5 watts. So today I turned a few ports down to 4.5 watts and everything still worked fine.. Any experience by chance with Valcom devices or just turning the power down on devices in general? I can imagine that a clock is drawing enough to care about the length of the wire run.
View 8 Replies View RelatedIn my last thread I had difficulties setting up access to my FTP server through the RV220W router. After getting it to work, I faced a new issue of reduced upload speed. 240ish KB/S which is obviously ridiculously slow. After much toying around, I finally got it to work again, after doing a factory reset of the router. But today when I wanted to upload to my friends NAS, I suddenly am faced with reduced speeds yet again(400KB/S)! settings, with one firewall rule added, to allow access to my FTP. Other than that, I also enabled jumbo frames....so I tried disabling that again. But that did nothing. Also tried disabling every firewall feature under "attack prevention" but, didn't seem to work either.I didn't reboot the router with each change, as that would make things take a lot longer....and didn't think it should be necessary?
I'm starting to get more and more tired of using my RV220W....seems slow and buggy..when I do a online speedtest, I get a 30Mb/30Mb down/upload rating, which matches the rating I pay my ISP for.... And I have a fiber connection.
I put a QoS in a WS-C3560CG-8TC-S version 12.2(55)EX2. in our lab file upload or download speed much reduced and drop the packets with QoS everyting is fine without QoS

We are experiencing output drops on our 3750G-12S (IOS 12.2.55).
I have monitored throughput with MRTG, but it doesn't seem that high compared to that the 3750G is supposed to handle 17.8 Mpps.
The 3750G's are stacked, running ospf, qos, multicast (IPTV) and etherchannel.Is the maximum throughput reduced by stacking or any of the other features?
I don't know if one can estimate what the maximum throughput is per ASIC or per port, but on one of the ASICs that is having drops the peak unicast load is 1.3 Mpps and multicast Mpps is 0.9 Mpps. Total ~2.2 Mpps.
This doesn't seem high at all and I don't understand why the drops are appearing. What I can do to find out the reason for these drops?
Over the past few months I've noticed that, although my USB adapter picks up a good signal from the router (never less than 65 - 70% signal strength) and stays connected to it I am at times unable to access any websites. It started off happening once or twice a week and could happen for about 5 - 10 minutes at a time but now happens several times a day and can stop me accessing the web even though the USB adapter says that it is still picking up the signal from the router. After a period of time it will just start working again, I don't have to restart the router or anything.I've tried changing the channel to a few different ones after using a utility to see what my neighbours were using but this hasn't made a difference. I'm using a Netgear RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N USB Adapter. It has the N technology so should work pretty well.The current firmware version is 1.00VG dated 5th May 2009. In the router settings it allows you to search for an update for the firmware however it told me that my current version is the most up to date.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have my DIR-655 router set up on the first floor because my son's tricked out gaming rig is in the basement while our office is on the 2nd floor. On the router, I tweaked settings to give him priority speed when he is gaming. Although he complains about his speeds and connectivity. In our 2nd floor office -- which is one floor and 30 ft through a wall away -- my signal strength varies from 45% to 70%. There are times when neighbor's networks show greater strength than mine does. I live in a house so the physical distance is much greater plus there are two exterior walls, no matter where their router is placed. The adapter in the office computer is a D-Link DWA-556.
