i have a Dell Studio 1745 and a few months back I woke up one morning not being able to connect to the internet.So ever since then I have been connecting to the internet through an ethernet cable connected to my router.Now this has become pretty annoying because it's a pretty short cable, I have to sit on the floor next to the router when using my laptop.
View 7 RepliesI am having trouble connecting to my wireless network sometimes it shows up sometimes it does not but when it is there it sometimes has full bars and others has none. I have tried resolving the the issues through windows and it either says windows cannot resolve your wireless connectivity issue or it says to unplug router for 10 seconds blah blah blah. sometimes it says there is an issue at the access point or wireless adapter. It is really getting frustrating and everything else that is wireless works in my house. I have a dell studio 1745 and windows 7 on it.

It will not connect to the internet at a Bloodbank I visit twice a week. It will connect to their wireless network, and gets a strong signal, but no internet. Other people at this facility seen to have no problem connecting to the internet. I tried downloading updated drivers for my wireless card, but it said I already had the latest drivers. I have turned off my firewall and changed to the lowest security settings. I don't know what to do.

Stupidly, this happened while I was still under a Service Contract, but due to the holidays, I put it off and the contract expired the middle of December. I have a Studio 17/1745, I disconnected the internal WI-fi card and use a USB D-Link N and I now have WI-fi. Should I purchase a new internal WiFi card and if so which one.

However, i can connect to it through wired connection. Others in my apartment can connect to the router. They dont have windows 7 (they use vista, ubuntu). Its working fine for them. I have tried many things like updating the router, disabling firewall, changing wireless security settings, updating windows but none of them seem to work. My friend who has the same laptop also cant connect when I cant. As soon as my connection is disconnected, his also disconnects.

My xbox worked, but none of my laptops. This morning I reset all the modem and the laptops. All of them connect but the internet is slow and fades in and out. This has been the case on two different routers/modems with two seperate service providers, however the problem gets fixed by turning off then back on the modem/router.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI received a new hard drive along with recovery discs from dell yesterday. They told me the new drive would be blank and I would have to run the discs. Not a problem. Installed the OS along with the drivers that had check marks next to them.
Today I plug in my home internet and it won't work. Unplug it and turn the wireless back on and it gets online just fine.

-Decided to mess with proxy settings with chrome
-Downloaded "proxyswitchy" chrome extension
-Obtained an IP and port # from hidemyass.com
-Tried to connect to internet, got message "unable to connect to proxy server"
-Decided this proxy stuff isn't worth it, deleted the proxy extension
-Reset router
-Now wireless isn't working on ANY laptop- it shows a connection available but cannot connect to it, however wired connection works (and is how I'm on here right now)Is this as simple as setting up a new wireless connection?
-went under "proxy server" under "LAN settings" in ctrl panel
-The box which stated "use a proxy for LAN" was checked, and the address and port I obtained from hidemyass were underneath
-I unchecked the box, applied the new settings, and reset my router
-Still doesn't connect wirelessly
The problem I was having was my laptop wouldn't connect to my new router provided by them, it would say it was connected but 'Local Only'. Turned out in the end all I needed to do was update my Atheros and Realtek drivers. Months down the line, now having the same symptoms, I decide to update my drivers only to find out there are no updates available and my drivers are up to date and working. The only other thing that may be the root to the this problem is the fact last night I connected to my girlfriends router at her house with this same laptop. Now I come back to my router this evening and I'm having these symptoms I had months ago. It's also saying the network is 'Undentified' eventhough it SAYS it's connected. It doesnt allow me to access the internet at all. I removed the history of my girlfriends connection on manage wireless networks, including my own.

I looked at the adapter card and it says there are no issues and it will connect via ethernet, I just need it to connect wirelessly for school. Well, it does connect - but it calls it "unidentified" and despite my many attempts it just won't allow me access to the internet. The two other laptops in the house are connected to it fine though. I tried connecting to my neighbour's wireless router, and it worked no problem, including the internet! I bought an ethernet cable earlier, which successfully connected my laptop to the internet. (Although it said I was connected to a homenetwork as well as my Talk Talk router, which it proceeds to call "unidentified" and is restricted to local access). However, I really need it to work wirelessly. I have not been able to use the laptop yet as the ethernet cable does not allow me to leave the router!

When I set up the range extender, I assigned an IP address to it that was different from the modem but yet this message still appears. Area networks appeared, tried to connect to my network (entered password, etc.) and would attempt to connect, but could not. Solution - activate McAfee security center.Products - 2 day old Inspiron 14z (windows 7, intel wi-fi) & Netgear n300 (6 months old, connecting 2 yo inspiron 15, sony bluray, kindle fire, hp photosmart 3500 printer with no issues)
I checked router log in information, firmware updates, cable connections - all okay. So I called tech support and the first cutomer care rep adjusted the power saving settings to "Dell" (was turning off wi-fi adapter to save juice), but that didn't solve issue. He told me that it was probably an ISP/router issue. Eventually I spoke to three other reps and 2 supervisors and was consistently told issue was ISP and/or router. Crankily, I told the last customer care rep that if the issue wasn't resolved, I would return laptop, since everything else was working. (Not nice of me, but that's how I felt. I'm not about to spend an extra $100+ on a router when mine is working fine and my ISP service is fine.) So, that rep agreed to connect to both my new laptop and the older inspiron 15 to find any differences in settings. He then found a solution - McAfee security center. I had not activated it, because I prefer another product, and hadn't uninstalled it before calling. The rep activated it and voila, connectivity. Afterwards, I did uninstall mcafee and installed my preferred security product, and still have connectivity.
Studio 1558 using Windows 7 64-bit with Netgear DGN1000 router
I can access almost every website with no problem however two sites in particular time out unless I connect an ethernet cable between the laptop and the router. Then there is no problem, the site comes up immediately. The sites are skytv.co.nz and asbbank.co.nz.
I have tried different browsers but that does not make any difference. I borrowed a Toshiba laptop and connected to my wireless network and that had no problem connecting to either site wirelessly so there must be something wrong in my Dell laptop. One difference I noticed between the Toshiba and Dell laptops was in Wireless Network Connection Status the Connection Speed for the Dell is 65.0 Mbps whereas the Toshiba was 150.0 Mbps. I'm not sure what this means and whether it is relevant.
I have reduced the wireless MTU to 1400 from 1500 but still no connection on those sites. It is a nuisance to have to use the ethernet cable to visit two websites when the wireless works fine on every other site.
