I have a Dimension 4600i that doesn't want to Wake on LAN. I am running the latest BIOS (A10), Intel Chipset Drivers, and latest Intel Pro/100 VE Drivers. I set the Network Settings to Network w. PXE and the startup sequence is CD-ROM, PXE, Hard disk. I am actually using the PXE, that is exactly what I want. My only problem is I need to do Wake on Lan for the system to wake up and PXE against my backup server. So far, no luck. I have tried numerous utilities and when I send magic packet the thing just sits there, everything else works great, the darn thing just won't come alive unless I hit the power button.

Trying to configure my desktop to Wake on Lan. I have the BIOS set to WOL(PME) enabled, i have the ports set up, and everything. I installed a WoL Sniffer on the desktop, and sent a wake up command and the sniffer showed it came through (with the correct FF FF FF FF FF FF <Mac address repeating>). The router it's hooked up to has the UDP port 9 forwarding, ad that's what my WoL tool is sending, and i see the light by the ethernet port and it does indeed flash repeatedly when i try to send the WoL magic packet. However, nothing happens. It's shut down, plugged in, i used the soft shut down from windows,If it was the router, then the light wouldn't flash when sending it...

I'm currently looking for a way to change all of our Laptop & Workstation (Approx 250+ machines) BIOS passwords using a remote tool if possible. The majority of laptops are Latitude and the workstations OptiPlex although most of the laptops have BitLocker activated. We also use Empirum software to push out software.
I have been looking around and into using the Dell Client Configuration Utility and also the OpenManage tool although I'm not too sure if they would work for us due to us using BitLocker.

I have a Thomson TG789vn v2 router and a weird way ISP (ASK4, UK) wants me to use it. They are telling me to connect their cable to Ethernet 1 slot and disable DHCP on the router.
When I do that some magic happens and the router no longer shows up in my Ethernet connection details, instead there is a 10.x.x.x address, I can no longer access neither the router nor the network share I had on it, when I try to ping either of those I am getting a "Destination host could not be reached" reply from the 10.x.x.x gateway. ISP also requires to register every newly connected device under my account on their portal. When I plug their cable into the WAN port I end up on an error page on their web server when I try any kind of connection. So how do I go about it to have my network share working?

I have a business class dell laptop that I have not used for a year or so (Dell support has expired). Last time I used it I had no problem conecting to our business/office linksys. I took the laptop home and tried to conect to a new cisco linksys e1000 wireless router (was not able to connect). As far as my laptop goes, what hardware (internal wireless adapter/etc) needs to be updated with latest drivers. Does the BIOS need to be updated? I am running Windows XP Pro. Other than the service pack (I am not at home so I can verify current service pack) what else needs to be brought up to date (hardware/software)? I have played with this for days and am done doing so until the laptop is totally made 'current". I will hard wire laptop to router to do these updates.

I have a lenovo v570 with 6gb of ram installed running windows 7 sp1 64 bit along with an intel centrino wireless-n 6150 card. After multiple fresh installs of windows 7 I have been unable to get my wireless card to work until I flashed the bios. After I start windows again I am able to use wireless, that is until I reboot. I get an error that the device cannot start (code 10). I thought there was something wrong with the hardware itself yet every single time I perform a bios flash the wireless works just wonderfully and never disconnects. I kept my laptop on for 3 days and wireless worked fine until reboot. I also noticed that it shows 6gb of RAM is available and then after the reboot I only noticed 5.92gb of RAM available. I don't know if this is a clue as to what is going on but I am investigating this matter myself now. I have yet to find any fixes and I am just looking into the matter personally as there is no reason to use an external wireless card if the internal will work properly. I refuse to be defeated by such issues. I am going to attempt to do a bios flash where I know wireless will work and use older drivers and systematically go down the line to see if a reboot makes the wireless fail on any other supported drivers. Currently Lenovo and Intel has numerous drivers and all tested have been failures so it's time to back to something older and even potentially another models drivers entirely. I would also like to point out that my bios does give me an option to enable/disable wifi as well as a switch on the laptop. I checked to see if either one of these are faulty and neither seem to be. I did notice a bug that the bios update supposedly fixed which happened to be where the boot order made a difference on whether the wifi worked or not. It seems that if the cd was in the boot order first it would prevent the wifi from working.

After installing a WMMP600N on an HP Pro 3410 (BIOS 7.04) the computer "freezes" after booting or doesn't boot at all. On the other hand, installing the same board on an HP (Compaq) DX2390 (BIOS 5.3) doesn't cause any problem: both the machine and the board work nicely together. Both machines run on Windows 7 Ultimate, with the latest driver from Linksys.

I am able to connect to the internet wireless. The wireless icon does not change. The blue dot rotates and moves about but instead of showing a connection, just the signal bars showing, it shows a land line connection with a red X over it. This happened after one of those many Windows updates.
I know I could try a reset to an earlier boot however, I made too many changes, installs and such that I don't want to loose any of it. There has to be a workaround for this lousy problem. I though of perhaps deleting my wireless connection and reinstalling it from the modem on up to the router. I just don't want to keep digging a hole! Ya know what, I really miss my apple computer which I finally gave up on because the price was overwhelming.

I had to default my wireless router " Netgear WGR14V6" and since then I haven't been able to connect with my wireless card. I can physically connect to it with a cable but I can't access it with the wireless card. When I look at the properties it says that it is working fine but I can't seem to find where to change the "SSID and the security phrase". Usually when it is up and running it has a status button and when you click on it there is a tab that you click on and it shows you the SSID and the rest, but now since it is not connected there isn't anything that I can find to change this.

My Internet Explorer will not save settings/changes to highlight color of viewed pages in search results. It will not highlight search pages that have been viewed at all. I have Internet Explorer 9 & Windows 7 - 32 bit on a Dell Inspiron 1545. I have uninstalled & reinstalled Internet Explorer 9. Above mentioned application did not work on either Internet Explorer 8 or 9. I have cleared all cookies, deleted all temp. internet files, optimized disc space twice & done a Full scan w/ my Norton. I go to color setting under Internet Explorer make the changes & hit each "OK", but the changes don't take. The "Apply" button is recessed and is not functioning. This has been the problem for approximately the last week and 1/2, before that color highlighting function was working. This color highlighting feature of viewed pages does work in Mozilla fire fox, but that is not what I want to use.

I live in an apartment complex with no access to whatever router is giving my room internet access. Will this prohibit me from opening port 9? From my research, I've learned that this port must be opened in order for the magic packets to be sent through to wake my PC up.
I want to be able to turn my PC on through my Samsung Galaxy tab. So far I've only been able to do it whenever both my PC and my tablet are on the same wireless router. But how can I do this when my tablet is connected to a different wifi?I currently have a Netgear WGR614 router, but even if I configure that to forward port 9, would my apartment complex's router need to be configured as well?

I just got a d-link DIR-655. I had a WRT-54G before, and Wake on Wan worked fine (was built in to the DDWRT firmware) and so did remote VNC. Now that I have this one, neither work and I can't find wake on wan in the firmware and no outside utilities seem to work. I am using ultravnc and I did forward port 5900. Port forwading works on other things, I think, because I got web access to work for my NAS.

I am thinking of setting up Wake-Up-LAN on my current desktop. The only problem is that I am using a wireless router, and it would be impossible for me to connect it with a cable. Would it be possible for me to use a wireless router? If not, would it be possible for me to use another router, connect it wirelessly to the original router, and connect that one with my desktop?

I have been trying in vain to setup my home network so that I can perform wake on lan (WOL) over the internet. I have been able to do WOL with a magic packet utility within my local network - so I know that the PC NICS are configured correctly - but this does not work when I try it from my office for example, over the internet.
I have a virtual server set up forwarding ports 9 and 7, UDP to 192.168.1.101 initially, but found some threads about using the broadcast address so changed this, but still no luck. I had to downgrade to 1.20 from 1.21 as I found several threads here about firmware versions not allowing broadcasts.
My setup is as follows:
Router: 192.168.1.1
PC1 192.168.1.101 (static assigned by MAC address in the router)
PC2 192.168.1.102 (static assigned by MAC address in the router)
Broadcast address was 192.168.1.255

I am trying to get WOL working across different VLANS on a SG-300-10 Switch in Layer 3 Mode. To achieve this, I've setup an UDP-Relay (GUI menu IP Configuration) for UDP-Port 7 to 255.255.255.255 (this should flood all interfaces with the paket), however, WOL doesn't work across different VLANS. When I am connected directly to the corresponding VLAN, WOL works fine within the same subnet.

I would like to configure my PC to be able to use wake on LAN/WAN mainly for power issues, so I don't have to have it on all the time to access anything I need. I bought a Linksys Cisco E 900 2 weeks ago. Now I am getting really frustrated since as far as I know I did configure everything needed for it but it does not seem to work nor through WAN or even in LAN.
What I did so far is:
1. In my BIOS I could not find a seperate wake on lan option under power management but I did find a "Power on by pci(e) device which I have enable.
2. I have a built in Realtek Ethernet card on my motherboard. In the setting I: Shutdown wake on lan - Disable Wake on magic packet - Enabled Wake on pattern match - Enabled Also the option to allow this device to wake up the computer using magic packet is also ticked.
3. I use Windows 7 and have installed and started Simple TCP/IP Services
4. I opened up UDP port 9 in Windows Firewall
5. I have set single port forwarding in the E900 to my reserved IP for both TCP and UDP port on port 9 and just in case port 7.
After all this it is not even working inside my LAN. Also I tried a port scanner and checking for open ports and UDP port 9 doesn't seem to be open. Why is that? Did I configure something wrong in the router?

I'm hoping to get this router to allow WOL (actually wake on WAN) but it seems to be blocking the necessary broadcast magic packet even though the settings appear correct. It's not critical, but the reason is this: I'd like to shut down the home PC, but when necessary be able to start it up and use a VPN to access any info I need remotely.
From within the LAN, I can verity that WOL works. I have NIC and PCI WOL enabled in the BIOS. The NIC (a Marvel Yukon Gigabit) has WOL enabled as well as "allow this device to wake.." using magic packets under power management. The target machine's local IP is reserved through the EA4500 DHCP Reservation table. Just for troubleshooting, I opened port 9 in windows firewall. More importantly, I have ports 7-9 forwarded to my target LAN address. Single port forwarding... it just has been less reliable (?). I'm using a mask of 255.255.255.128 in order to enable broadcasting on .127 at some point as it seems it must be necessary. Broadcasting on .255 is not possible, despite some workarounds I found on the web. EA4500 firmware is the latest, 2.0.37. I have turned off the multicast filter and the anonymous internet filters under the security tab.
So, with these settings, I can WOL from inside the network no problem either targeting the LAN address, or by using a dyndns address. So far so good. With these same settings, I can go to WAN using Depicus or the Cloud Connect Pro app over 4G on an iPad. With all these same settings, WOLsniffer confirms the magic packet still getting through over WAN (obviously using the dyndns address). Even better, I can shutdown the target PC and STILL wake it up within a few minutes from WAN. Let me restate that! Wake up over WAN works, but only for the first few minutes after a shutdown.
However, if I wait 20 minutes or so, WOL stops working. If I change the port forwarding to .127, not only does it not work, but WOLsniffer will fail to see the magic packet. My conclusion is that the ARP table is getting purged, which is undertandable, and so the target LAN address isn't in memory. However, frustratingly the EA4500 will not broadcast no matter what settings you use. This limitation is undocumented, and counterintuitive since the software allows you to disable multicast filtering and does not notify you of an error when forwarding to xxx.xxx.xxx.127 with a 255.255.255.128 mask.

We have acquired a cisco sge 2010 to replace our distribution switch. I set up the 802.1X network. Everything works great except I can not find how to enable 802.1x with 'Wake on LAN' on this kind of switch.
On catalyst I saw that it was sufficient to activate this control "authentication control-direction {both | in}" Except that it seems not to exist on this switch. Is there another way to enable 802.1x on WoL without using this command?
Or how to allow the magic packet (WoL) on a tagged port by unauthorized 802.1x?

The computer's BIOS has been configured to wake on lan and so have the Ethernet ports. I have an app for the iPad that i used to use ot send out a ping to my old router (E2500) setup that used to wake the computer just fine. But this new router (RV110w) does not work at all even with the same single port forwarding set up.
