Dell :: E6410 - Unable To Connect To Wi-Fi Networks That Has WEP Key Enabled
May 28, 2012
At home, I have 2 laptops and 1 smartphones, I set up a wi-fi network with WEP (WPA2) key. Since then the Windows Wireless manger is not able to connect.
If I remove the WEP key, I am able to connect.
The Internet connection is good. I am able to connect a HP, a Lenevo laptop, an iPhone with the same WEP key - but Dell does not connect.
I am running Windows XP on Latitude E6410 with Intel i5 Core.

I am thinking about buying Dell 5550 module to my Latitude E6410. I know that for E6410 is designed 5540 module, but newer 5550 for E6420 has ability to use faster HSPA+ networks.
So my question is, any info on this combination of Latitude E6410 and Dell 5550 module?

I have an Alienware M17X-R3 and I’ve been experiencing several networking problems with it recently- most importantly that I can’t connect to any wireless network. It detects all the networks in the area, but when I select and try to connect to one nothing happens. I can still use a wired Internet connection, though. “Troubleshoot problems” or “Diagnose” just tells me that I have no preferred wireless networks. When I go to the Network and Sharing Center, the “Set up a new connection or network” button doesn’t do anything. When I go from there to “Manage Wireless Networks” the “Add” button doesn’t do anything.
I’ve tried disabling and enabling my DW1501 Wireless-N WLAN Half-Mini Card, and reinstalling the drivers. I’ve disabled the “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” option on all my network devices. I’ve used a system restore. I’ve run a scan with Malwarebytes and my computer had crashed by the time I looked at it again thirty or so minutes later; it had tried to restart but was unable to because there was “No bootable device”. I powered it off and started it up again and it worked fine. I also ran a Superantispyware scan that completed successfully without finding anything and immediately crashed, but restarted normally.
A few other things that may or may not be related:
-When I boot I get a message that says “Could not reconnect all network drives”
-When I booted I used to get a message from GoogleCrashHandler64.exe that said “C:Windowssystem32dbghelp.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.” When I went to msconfig and disabled all non-Microsoft processes under services and startup I no longer got the message.

I have a Dell laptop that I use at my Work Location as well as at my home.
The problem is, the laptop connects to the Wi Fi available at my work location without any troubles. But when I come back home and try to connect to Wi Fi available at my home location, it does not get connected. If I connect the direct cable from my modem, then it gets connected but it does not connect wirelessly through Wi Fi router.
The Ethernet card installed on my laptop is : DW1520 Wireless-N WLAN Half-Mini Card

I've got a work laptop (Dell E6410). Now I should qualify I'm a member of my employers IT Service Desk and I'm trying to discover how to fix this problem as its becoming more and more common (to the point we've even opened a Problem Report PR) but I'm unsure if the network ops team have contacted the TAC for support.
What I've done in the VPN client is set "LOG LEVEL 15" against everything so it spits everything out for diagnosis. This laptop I have 2 weeks ago was fine, since then its been spitting 412 error. And its beginning to frustrate the userbase.
- Laptop types: Dell E6400/E6410/E4310
- Connection Types: WiFi, Cabled or NextG mobile devices.
- VPN Version: 05.00.0003.0560a
- VPN Type: We use Group Authentication for the profile, then RSA + Domain login on the other end.
- OS: Win XP SP3
What have we tried:
- Deleting and recreating the RSA SecurID account for the user
- Reimaging the laptop
- Reinstalling the VPN
- Repairing the laptop
- Recreating the *.pcf file for the profile.
Originally I had found if using a NextG device and turning off the WiFi it would stop the 412 error but that has stopped working as a workaround and I've tried on both a cable connection (Direct to modem) and direct to my routed/switched network at home. Same error on 2 different types of internet connection.
In the log when I set L15 debugging I found....
148 17:29:10.890 06/07/11 Sev=Warning/3 CVPND/0xA340000DThe virtual adapter was not recognized by the operating system.
149 17:29:10.890 06/07/11 Sev=Warning/2 CM/0xE310000AThe virtual adapter failed to enable
356 17:29:33.453 06/07/11 Sev=Info/6 CM/0x6310003AUnable to restore route changes from file.
357 17:29:33.453 06/07/11 Sev=Info/6 CM/0x63100037The routing table was returned to original state prior to Virtual Adapter
[code]....
I will try and find out what kind of end-point we have. But reading those snippits its like trying to activate the virtual adapter but can't seem to do it.

I have WIN XP installed on my DELL E6410 Latitude laptop. When I start my laptop, it acquires the internet connection fine, whether wireless or the wired connection. However on the wired connection, if I unplug the cable and replug it, it does not get the connection. It shows Limited connectivity or no connection. If I try to repair, it says , the IP address could not be renewed. Nothing works but restarting the laptop.Same is the case with wireless connection at home. The first time it catches the wireless fine. However if the system gets locked because of inactivity, and I unlock it, I am left with LIMITED CONNECTIVITY or NO CONNECTION message on the Wireless. I need to restart my comp because the repair or the disable and enable of WLAN does not facilitate.

I have Latitude E6410 and connect to internet through wireless network to Zyxel ADSL modem. My problem has started 20 days ago when I was connected then I was disconnected from internet. The status is as below:
- I can ping the modem which means the laptop the link between modem and laptop is working while I can not ping any address or website even the provider's DNS. At the same time, if I connect the LAN cable, every thing is working properly. I tried with different laptops and there was no problem. To resolve the problem temporarily, I have to restart the modem or change the IP for my wireless card. In this case it works for another 30-60 minutes. the issue is the same when I use different modem.

we are using Cisco VPN client to access our corporate network.I have 5 new notebooks Dell Latitude E6410 OS Windows 7 Professional x64, with identical hardware configuration.I downloaded Cisco VPN Client 5.0.07.440 (64 bit) and installed it on all notebooks. It works fine on 3 notebooks, while on 2 notebooks the VPN connection fails with error:

We use a smartcard for VPN access (etoken from Aladdin)
Here an extract from Cisco log:

It seems the problem is in the certificate, but I verified and Cisco client says it's ok. It's also the only valid certificate in MMC->Certificates->Personal.Furthermore, also using other smartcard (etokens) of other users it doesn't work.

I haven't installed anything new lately, nothing that would affect the wireless, but my wireless suddenly stopped working. My wireless has been working successfully for the past 2 years no problems till now. I have a Dell Latitude E6410 my computer is running Windows 7 32bit. When I open up the DW WLAN Card Utility it says "There are currently no wireless adapters available and enabled. Please enable any available wireless adapters before accessing this configuration utility. I tried reinstalling drivers for the wireless but my computer says "no compatible hardware found".
Also the under the wireless adapters section of Device Manager there isn't an adapter for wireless, but there is an unknown device.
Here's a View at my Device Manager [URL]
I've tried to use computer restart magic but no luck there.
Also, my computer is running on a university network. My roommate's wireless is working fine. Also I've already system restored to a point where I know it was working, no luck...

My laptop can see available networks, but is unable to connect to any of them.I have run Microsoft Security Essentials and the scan comes back fine, ran CC Cleaner as well as Malware Bytes and those scans both come back fine as well.I have also re-seated my wifi card, as well as attempted a TCP/IP stack repair option. However none of these fixed my issue. What could be preventing my laptop from connecting to a network? I have also tried to boot into Safe Mode w/ Networking, and the pc is unable to connect there either.I have also disabled all security on my router, it is just an open network no security, broadcasting the SSID.

I recently entered the realm of wireless networking for my desktops and was able to connect my personal desktop successfully. Unfortunately, the other desktop I really need to make wireless is having difficulties. The computer never shows the message that a new device is discovered/installed. The adapter shows up under hardware devices and functioning properly but this is not the case. I installed the driver from the included CD but when I use Windows to troubleshoot, it says that the driver and adapter aren't working. When trying to set up a new network, I get a grayed-out wireless icon in the system tray and can't proceed. I disabled the firewall and antivirus so I could start over, uninstalling the driver, restarting and installing again.

I seem to have a problem with my Dell DW1520 wireless LAN card installed on a Studio 1747 laptop. The LAN card seems to have a mind of its own and is rarely enabled at start up. Repeatedly restarting the laptop a few times somehow magically enables the network card though. When disabled, I can see the red cross on the task bar (network connection). The network card is not even detected and is not visible in device manager. However, when I restart the laptop a few times, the bars appear, the LAN card appears in device manager and I can connect to the wireless network.
I logged a call with Dell Technical support for this and a different issue (BSOD and restart). They replaced my motherboard and asked me to monitor the situation. While the BSOD/restart issue seems to have disappeared with the motherboard replacement, the wireless LAN card issue still remains. The person that came to install the motherboard also tried installing new drivers for the LAN card but that hasn't worked. Dell tech support now say that I must reinstall the whole Operating System (Windows 7), drivers etc from scratch.

I've an Inspiron 1521 with Dell wireless minicard 1505, running Vista that was running fine except for 'BCM42RLY service failed to start, can't find file' messages logged in the event log, so I thought I would stop that by uninstalling the device driver and re-installing a later version. So I *deleted* when I did the un-install (didn't want any nasty bits left behind) and re-installed the later R174292 drivers. Install went ok, and device manager likes it too, no nasty exclamation marks and it does say "This device is working properley"! On dear, the Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility tells me different, it says "There are currently no wirelss adapaters available and enabled". When you try to 'connect to a network' it too reports "Windows cannot find any networks".
Done "SFC /scannow" just in case, and no probs reported.
I seem to have deleted something really important when I nuked the driver, that R174292 did not replace? Needless to say I cannot roll back the driver! And, just to be sure, that little 'ole network switch on the side of the 'old lappie is firmly ON!

I recently received the blue screen of death on my labtop so I used the system restore cd and wiped the entire hard drive clean. Afterwards I knew to extract the drivers from the drivers and utilities cd. I extraced the wlan card since this is what has been controlling my wireless at school and everywhere else. The little tower icon doesn't appear in my task box on the bottom of the screen nor is it anywhere where I can enable it. The only place I see the driver is in the add/remove folder in the control panel. Furthermore the blue light doesn't appear when I flip the switch to the on position.

I have a wireless network using an Apple Airport router. There is an iMac, an IBM Think Pad and a Dell XPS 410 tower (both running XP) on the network and all were working until this week. All of a sudden I can not get on the internet with the Dell PC. When I try to log into the router, it searches for a connection, but never is able to attain one. My network is displayed and I am using WPA security and have been entering the correct key. I have tried reinstalling the drivers, but with no success. I believe I was able to access a local unprotected site, but after being connected a pass word was required. I also tried ipconfig, but it just flashed on and then immediately off.

I am unable to connect to the internet in wireless mode. It shows the available networks, but does not connect when I type in my router password. I have tried everything I know of. Uninstalled/Reinstalled the driver - I have an Intel 5100 AGN wireless driver installed. I disabled and enabled it. Didn't work. Running command prompt and typing in ipconfig /all doesn't detect my adapter device.
I also did these by running command prompt as an administrator: [code] and restarted my computer. I have a Dell Studio 1555 with Win 7 (32-bit) Professional. I know this is a problem with my Windows as the wireless works seamlessly in my Ubuntu.

I press FN/F2 to "enable and disable wireless" but cannot see the antenna icon appear on the screen to know if the functionalty even exists. Other function keys work properly. I vaguely remember seeing this icon when I first purchased the laptop, but soon after purchase I had to completely reinstall the operating system and have not had a need to a wireless connection to notice it was no longer there.Because I cannot access wireless connections I assume there is a problem with enabling this feature of my laptop.
what I should be doing to check/correct that my laptop can receive a wifi connection? I've checked the recommended driver installs for my model of laptop, but nothing seems relevant.
