I recently found out my laptop (Windows Vista)...cannot connect to secured networks. I was to connect to router using ethernet cable before, then i can connect to an unsecured network just fine..i remember that 2 years ago i can connect to secured networks...
i can't provide the name or brand of the router since it is owned by the landlord and only provided me with the password
Couldn't connect to mobile hotspot but could connect to other networks, none of which were from a phone. When attempting to connect to hotspot, my phone displays the information of my computer as name unknown, IP address 0.0.0.0, but gives a MAC address. (My computer has a name, I can't find my IP address, idk what a MAC address is)I tried using remote desktop connection, but the computer I was trying to connect to couldn't find mine.
To be honest, I'm not sure I did it correctly, though.Displayed as 0.0.0.0 on phone when attempting to connect to mobile hotspot.I typed ipconfig in command prompt but got nothing about an IP address. There were several lines that began with "Tunnel adapter" all followed by "Media State : Media Disconnected" then "Connection-specific DNS Suffix: I currently have no internet connection (I'm on my phone), so I can't find it that way either.
Under Network Location it specifies that it cannot connect to MEMORYCARD (\EPSON00) (Z:) and upon clicking on it I receive an error message: "Microsoft Windows Network: The network path was not found. This connection has not been restored."I've spilled water on my keyboard before, but this took place after these problems arose. I dried the computer and had it sit with rice for 2 days. The only issue that came of this incident that I am aware of was a few stuck keys.
So we just got a new router for our higher speed internet. The modem is an Actiontec Q1000 from Qwest. We used to live out in the middle of nowhere, so we never needed to secure our internet. Now we live close to neighbors and we need to encrypt the wireless. When I try any encryption, however, I can't connect at all. I have tried temporarily having it unlocked and I could connect without a problem. It also works fine when I'm using my Ethernet cord.

I am trying to connect my Samsung TV to the internet and keep getting a message that says NEtwork setup complete, but cannot connect to the internet. I am wondering, I have 2 network connections, a secure one and unsecure. I don't have the information/password for the secure connection anymore, so I am trying to set my TV up with the unsecure network.

I'm still able to connect with my iPad and iPod. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the network adapter however this fails to successfully install. I've searched for hours but can't find a solution. I'm also unable to reset the router etc because I live in china and the router is in a roommates room whose door is locked.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Cisco E1000 that I was changing settings on and now I cannot connect when I have a secure connection. I can connect when I disable security, I can also connect with a USB wireless adapter. Anyone else can connect to the wireless, but I cannot with my internal wireless adapater if the router is in secure mode, but I can with unsecure mode. I'm not sure what I changed or when, or if it is a coincidence. I'm using Windows Vista Home Edition. I have two wireless connections. The wireless 2 with the netgear adapter is working but the wireless with the Atheros is not. The wireless connector works with other other networks, just not the Cisco E1000 and the Cisco E1000 works with other computers. When I connect with the Atheros to the Cisco it just shows "Local Only".

I've tried two operating systems (Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows XP) two different wireless adaptors (Dell M1530 internal adaptor and Alfa USB Adaptor which I get full bars on) and tried a different Dell M1530 laptop which I'm also having issues with. I've also tried to diagnose the network with a tool, but I'm totally unable to connect to it so I'm unable to get any more information.If I try to connect to an unsecured network, it works perfectly. I'm totally stumped about this, due to the fact that I've used two different operating systems, two different adaptors and two different laptops (albeit the same brand).

I can connect to it secure and wired as well as unsecured and wireless, but not secured and wireless. I have done malware scans and checked for driver updates for both my netowrking card and the Linksys WRT54G router firmware...both are good. All of the other systems in the house can wirelessly connect to it while secured, so I've narrowed it down to clearly being a problem with my computer. I am using Vista Home Premium 64 bit on an ASUS G50VT.

Also, I removed the security on the network to see if its able to connect without password.The state where it fails is Obtaining IP address and it fails again.
My laptop can see available networks, but is unable to connect to any of them.I have run Microsoft Security Essentials and the scan comes back fine, ran CC Cleaner as well as Malware Bytes and those scans both come back fine as well.I have also re-seated my wifi card, as well as attempted a TCP/IP stack repair option.However none of these fixed my issue. What could be preventing my laptop from connecting to a network? I have also tried to boot into Safe Mode w/ Networking, and the pc is unable to connect there either.I have also disabled all security on my router, it is just an open network no security, broadcasting the SSID.

I can set up the NAS no problem, but here is the catch. From the ISP we have a B/G Router/Modem combo, and for range, we have a d-link B/G/N router.
I would like to have the ISP's G network open to cover our lobby for free access, and have the D-Link's N to cover the far offices, WITH access to the files. Now the issue, how do I set up the D-Link router, to only share the NAS files with devices conected directly to it.

If I remove the WEP key, I am able to connect.
The Internet connection is good. I am able to connect a HP, a Lenevo laptop, an iPhone with the same WEP key - but Dell does not connect.
I am running Windows XP on Latitude E6410 with Intel i5 Core.
There are free vpn services. When the vpn adds a pad lock to the network icon, is it then secure to use it on insecure networks like public wifi to get internet access? I mean, the password is given to you from the vpn provider's website.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an Alienware M17X-R3 and I’ve been experiencing several networking problems with it recently- most importantly that I can’t connect to any wireless network. It detects all the networks in the area, but when I select and try to connect to one nothing happens. I can still use a wired Internet connection, though. “Troubleshoot problems” or “Diagnose” just tells me that I have no preferred wireless networks. When I go to the Network and Sharing Center, the “Set up a new connection or network” button doesn’t do anything. When I go from there to “Manage Wireless Networks” the “Add” button doesn’t do anything.
I’ve tried disabling and enabling my DW1501 Wireless-N WLAN Half-Mini Card, and reinstalling the drivers. I’ve disabled the “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” option on all my network devices. I’ve used a system restore. I’ve run a scan with Malwarebytes and my computer had crashed by the time I looked at it again thirty or so minutes later; it had tried to restart but was unable to because there was “No bootable device”. I powered it off and started it up again and it worked fine. I also ran a Superantispyware scan that completed successfully without finding anything and immediately crashed, but restarted normally.
A few other things that may or may not be related:
-When I boot I get a message that says “Could not reconnect all network drives”
-When I booted I used to get a message from GoogleCrashHandler64.exe that said “C:Windowssystem32dbghelp.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.” When I went to msconfig and disabled all non-Microsoft processes under services and startup I no longer got the message.
Having just installed the E1000 why have I got a public network address '####' which is security type WPA2 -PSK and also public network address '#### - Guest' which is security type - unsecured.Anyone can log onto either wireless network connection but only with the correct password.How do I remove the '####' address and also how do I make the '#### - Guest' address a secure one.

Then for the last few days i can't get on skype, LoL, or any other program that uses the internet. I can get onto websites and such( using firefox) except i can not load youtube videos, otherwise my internet disconnects for a minute or so.

I've gone through my troubleshooting and the wifi light is on, so that's not the issue. I also updated my driver (says it's working fine) and even tried to uninstall and reinstall it. This cable is plugged into a wireless router, which in turn is plugged into a modem giving it Internet. So yes I understand this part. But on my new computer it says "Not connected, and no connections available." I then plug the computer directly into the modem, I in turn receive Internet beautifully and quite quickly. But I cannot keep it like this because I need the wireless router for other devices. So I set everything up back the way it was and my other devices work! Even other plugged in one's that aren't wireless, but still not this new computer.. What do I do

Pertinent info:
-I'm connecting to a Linksys WRT610N router via a wireless USB adaptor, Netgear WNDA3100v2;
-Service is Time Warner Roadrunner cable;
-There is no IP conflict as I've got DHCP range set from .200-.249 and this machine's static is .100;
-All the other devices in the house are on static starting with .101 up and they all work fine, both wired and wirelessly;
-Can see and connect to all devices in the LAN, including the router, but nothing outside
All the light indicator of the router are working as they should,however there will be no internet connection.This happens about once a day(rest of the day the internet works fine),I then have to switch off the router,wait for a good amount of time and then switch it back on and then internet will work fine.I use the router for many devices like my windows 7 laptop,an ipad,iphones.
