Actiontec Q1000 Modem - Can't Connect To Secure Wireless Networks
May 10, 2011
So we just got a new router for our higher speed internet. The modem is an Actiontec Q1000 from Qwest. We used to live out in the middle of nowhere, so we never needed to secure our internet. Now we live close to neighbors and we need to encrypt the wireless. When I try any encryption, however, I can't connect at all. I have tried temporarily having it unlocked and I could connect without a problem. It also works fine when I'm using my Ethernet cord.
Heres my IPCONFIG.

I'm having difficulty connecting my desktop to my wireless network. Some details to start off: I'm using a G-Sky usb wifi adapter model number GS-28usb. I recently moved from an apartment with free wifi and I set up broadband with Qwest/CenturyLink. The modem/router is an Actiontec Q1000. The firmware is up to date (I checked) and every other device I bring into the house can connect just fine (laptop, roommate's desktop and laptop, and my blackberry) I'm running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate on all machines, with all updates currently available. My network shows up in the list of available networks, signal strength fine, but when I try to connect, it does its initial "getting information..." in the small box in the corner of the screen, then the box disappears and no connection is made. The status of my adapter at that point will say "attempting to authenticate" and will remain like that even though (apparently) windows has given up on trying to connect to the network. It never gets to the point where it asks me for the passkey. I've changed just about every variable I can think of that might affect this on the router (encryption type, b/g/n, legacy mode, compatibility mode, etc, i've renamed the network, powercycled the router, etc) all to no avail. I've tried to manually add the network settings under wireless profiles, but even though the information I put in is EXACTLY correct, under available networks its says that my settings don't match those on the network. I've tried different wireless adapters, and none will connect, so I've eliminated a faulty adapter. I can connect to my laptop with an ethernet cable, and bridge the connections so I can use the internet on my desktop, but i cannot connect directly to the router.
here is my ipconfig/all:

I have my internet through CenturyLink which is a DSL connection running on an Actiontec Q1000 on a Windows 7 set up. I'm trying to run a subsonic server on my computer to stream my music collection. It was all working beautifully until I had to switch to this modem from my previous. Now, when I go to canyouseeme.org, it can't see that 4040 and 8080 are open. They need to be for subsonic to work? I've tried to set it up as portforwarding

I am trying to allow an external website access to my http://localhost:8080. It is a trusted website.
I have a ZyXel Q1000 modem and a Trendnet TEW-452BRP router. The TRENDnet is serving a PS3, Xbox, Wii, and 2 iMacs and the ZyXel is serving the TRENDnet.
My public IP for the ZyXel is 65.xxx.xx.152 and it's IP address is 192.168.0.1 with a range of 192.168.0.2-254 My TRENDnet IP is 192.168.1.1 and a range of 192.168.1.100-199
I have setup a Virtual Server on the TRENDnet using HTTP, Protocol TCP 80/80 and LAN Server 198.168.1.109 (my iMac localhost). I have also setup Application forwarding and Port forwarding on both the modem and router (at different times, trying to resolve this).
Naturally none of those worked. I don't know if I need a Port forwarded or Application forwarding or the Virtual Server. Also don't know if either of those need to be on one or both devices.
All I do know is to access my localhost from the Internet, all I need to do is put http://65.xxx.xx.152 in the address bar of a browser outside my network, and my modem/and or router should forward the request to my iMac and my localhost:8080.
But every configuration I have tried does nothing of the sort.

Just had Verizon FIOS service installed. It comes with an actiontec modem. I would like to remove the actiontec modem and connect directly to my Linksys RT31P2 which is cascaded to my Linksys WRT54G. I have tried just about every router setup config; all with no success. How to be able to connect the FIOS directly to a linksys router.

I'm purchasing an Actiontec GT724WGR Universally Compatible 4-port ADSL Wireless Gateway to be used strictly as a modem with Qwest DSL. I'm also purchasing an Asus Black Diamond Dual Band Processor, Hardware NAT, 5 Internal Antennas, Fast Gigabit Ethernet and 128MB DDR2 Wireless Router (RT-N56U) to be utilized a my primary router. My question is how do I set up the Actiontec modem to be strictly used as a modem without the wireless g function transmitting since I will be using the ASUS as the primary router? Or do I just let both of the transmit as routers together?

I'm on a Mac running OSX. Qwest (my ISP) recently swapped my DSL modem for an Actiontec Q1000 combo modem/router. The Q1000 firewall is not nearly as configurable as my Linksys BEFSR41 (v3) router. I'd like to use the Q1000 just as a modem and use my Linksys as my router so I can access it's superior firewall configuration.
How do I physically hook the hardware up?
How do I configure the 2 items. The Q1000 uses 192.168.0.1 as it's web address. The Linksys uses 192.168.1.1. I have 2 Macs on my network, an iMac (OS 10.5.8) and a G4 (10.3.9).
Besides web browsing & email, I also have a torrent client I use (Azureus).

One project I want to do is get them a network storage drive (Except, due to budget reasons, all I get is the 1Tb external they've had for a year now, and a NAS adapter). I can set up the NAS no problem, but here is the catch. From the ISP we have a B/G Router/Modem combo, and for range, we have a d-link B/G/N router.
I would like to have the ISP's G network open to cover our lobby for free access, and have the D-Link's N to cover the far offices, WITH access to the files. Now the issue, how do I set up the D-Link router, to only share the NAS files with devices conected directly to it.

There are free vpn services. When the vpn adds a pad lock to the network icon, is it then secure to use it on insecure networks like public wifi to get internet access? I mean, the password is given to you from the vpn provider's website.

I have Centurylink DSL as an internet provider. They recently replaced my old Actiontec GT701-WG with an Actiontec C1000A. Since upgrading the modem, I can't get my XP laptop to connect. I can get an iPad, Vista laptop, a Windows 7 laptop, and a WII to connect using the exact same settings I had on the old Actiontec.I've set the C1000A to WPA/WPA2-PSK and TKIP/AES. I do not have an access list enabled. I set the SSID and key to the same settings I had on the original Actiontec. I've upgraded the drivers on my XP laptop to the latest version. I can see the SSID in my list of networks but when I try to connect, it just sits there saying connecting. I've set up my old Actiontec as a wireless switch and can connect with the XP laptop without any problems. I've also connected to a Netgear 802.11N wireless router at another location without problems.

my dlink dsl-520b dls modem is using 192.168.1.1 and is plugged into the WAN port on my dlink wireless router.the wireless router is 192.168.0.1. (these are both in the main building which is remote from my shop). Then i have a netgear wireless access point This spreads the signal properly, and I can get connectivity on all my computers -although i do have to specify a default route on the computers on my shop side of the access point.I noticed that the internet light on my modem is red which indicates no internet connection. I am still able to access the internet fine, but i would like to be able to log into the modem from my network. I was able to do this before by setting a computer with a netmask of 255.255.0.0.

We have kids in the house and I'd like to limit their internet access to certain times of the day but because of the great amount of devices they use (phones, tablets, laptops, etc.) the only way I could think of doing that easily was to set up two wireless networks: one that the adults could use 24/7 and the other that the kids could access during certain set hours.
Here's the equipment I'm working with:
DLink DIR 615 wireless router
DLink DIR 515 wireless router
Motorola Surfboard cable modem S85101U
I plugged the DLink 615 in, set it up for DHCP client and plugged it into the cable modem. I lef the default 192.168.0.1 IP address for the device. On that router, I also reserved the 192.168.0.199 IP address and assigned it to the DLink 515.I also gave the DLink 515 device the IP 192.168.1.1 so I could administer it.I set the DLink 515 to static IP and made the IP 192.168.0.199 and the default gateway 192.168.0.1.I plugged the DLink 515 into one of the LAN ports in the DLink 615.I set a schedule on the DLink 615 to shut down internet access to the DLink 515 at a certain hour and turn it back on at another time.Everything seems to work ok, but at least once a day we have to unplug and plug the routers to reset them.

I have a need to have 2 seperate networks from my comcast cable modem.I was hoping to plug a 5 port hub into the cable modem and then plug both the wrt610n and the wrt54g into the hub. Seem that only one of the routers will get an ip assigned from Comcast. Is there a way to have one ISP cable modem and create two different home networks with the two linksys routers, thus two separate independent networks?
-Network 1: public household use and family (Jane's wireless laptop, household PC's etc).
-Network 2: private household/company use and separate from the public family network (company wireless laptop/company PC, un-secure media server).

Using a Linksys E2000 and Linksys WRT54GL (both flashed to most recent firmware), I am trying to set up Network "A" and Network "B" on one modem. I do not want either A or B to be able to see each other for security purposes. Both are secured networks for the wireless connections and have different SSIDs.
After online research, and the inability to find my exact question answered, this is what I did and I'd like to know if I'm missing anything to keep A and B completely separate. Or, if I've done anything that will cause any problems on my network. [code]
I disabled the ability to change settings using wireless connection on both routers.

I've tried two operating systems (Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows XP) two different wireless adaptors (Dell M1530 internal adaptor and Alfa USB Adaptor which I get full bars on) and tried a different Dell M1530 laptop which I'm also having issues with. I've also tried to diagnose the network with a tool, but I'm totally unable to connect to it so I'm unable to get any more information. If I try to connect to an unsecured network, it works perfectly. I'm totally stumped about this, due to the fact that I've used two different operating systems, two different adaptors and two different laptops (albeit the same brand).

I came home and was unable to wirelessly connect to my secure home network. I can connect to it secure and wired as well as unsecured and wireless, but not secured and wireless. I have done malware scans and checked for driver updates for both my netowrking card and the Linksys WRT54G router firmware...both are good. All of the other systems in the house can wirelessly connect to it while secured, so I've narrowed it down to clearly being a problem with my computer. I am using Vista Home Premium 64 bit on an ASUS G50VT.

I recently had an issue with my laptop that required a complete reinstall of windows. As if this wasn't bad enough, I lost the password that I had for my router. Thinking it was no big deal I just went ahead and reset the router back to factory settings assuming I would be able to set up a network and encrypt it as I had before. Just testing the functionality, I was able to access my router while it was not encrypted and with the DSL modem plugged in, I also had internet access. I did this both wireless and with Ethernet cable.
Happy to see this, I decided it would be a good idea to re-encrypt my router to prevent any outside access. So as I had done before I went to the setting page where I set up a network with a web key. The only thing I entered at all was the paraphrase for the key then saved the setting to test it out. I refreshed the available wireless networks and mine was there and was now listed as secure. I then proceeded to click on the network, entered the key, and then waited for it to connect. The problem is, it never would connect. It continuously tries to connect, and says it is trying to "acquire the network address" but never does. Since then I have been on the hunt trying many different suggestions I have seen online, but none of the situations were quite like this one.

how I can setup two separate networks on a Westell 327w modem/router. I know this question has been asked to death and I've utilized the search function, but I still don't know how to make this work. I have a computer that I plan on using for important business and my sibiling has my other computer that he uses for gaming and downloading stuff. His computer is connected wirelessly to the Westell 327w. My computer has no internet access at this point. I would like to have both connected wirelessly to the internet, but keep them completely separate and as secure as possible, as he downloads some questionable things.

My Motorola SBG901 Modem/Router combo has stopped connecting to the internet. I have done all the troubleshooting with Comcast and with Motorola and it is out of warranty, so I will have to purchase a new one.In the mean time, I wanted to use it only as a wireless router connected to my Scientific Atlanta DPC2100R2 modem. Is there anyway to do this? Is there a way to disable the modem in the SBG901? Simply connecting with the ethernet cords has not worked. I connected the DPC2100 to the SBG901 via ethernet cord. My computer was able to pick up a wireless connection but there is no cable connection.

We are a small office currently running a regular network (9 wired, 2 wireless) and also using the "guest" feature (7 wireless) on a Linksys E2000. We have a switch to connect our wired equipment to the E2000. If "A" is our regular network, and "B" is our guest network, is it possible to have 2 routers on 1 cable modem and still prevent network "A" from seeing Network "B" and vice versa?? We are looking to do this because we will soon be exceeding the maximum guest users (10) allowed by the E2000. We have another Linksys router in storage, I think it is a WRT54G, that we would use if this is possible.
