There are free vpn services. When the vpn adds a pad lock to the network icon, is it then secure to use it on insecure networks like public wifi to get internet access? I mean, the password is given to you from the vpn provider's website.
One project I want to do is get them a network storage drive (Except, due to budget reasons, all I get is the 1Tb external they've had for a year now, and a NAS adapter). I can set up the NAS no problem, but here is the catch. From the ISP we have a B/G Router/Modem combo, and for range, we have a d-link B/G/N router.
I would like to have the ISP's G network open to cover our lobby for free access, and have the D-Link's N to cover the far offices, WITH access to the files. Now the issue, how do I set up the D-Link router, to only share the NAS files with devices conected directly to it.
I recently found out my laptop (Windows Vista)...cannot connect to secured networks. I was to connect to router using ethernet cable before, then i can connect to an unsecured network just fine..i remember that 2 years ago i can connect to secured networks...
i can't provide the name or brand of the router since it is owned by the landlord and only provided me with the password
So we just got a new router for our higher speed internet. The modem is an Actiontec Q1000 from Qwest. We used to live out in the middle of nowhere, so we never needed to secure our internet. Now we live close to neighbors and we need to encrypt the wireless. When I try any encryption, however, I can't connect at all. I have tried temporarily having it unlocked and I could connect without a problem. It also works fine when I'm using my Ethernet cord.
Heres my IPCONFIG.

Having just installed the E1000 why have I got a public network address '####' which is security type WPA2 -PSK and also public network address '#### - Guest' which is security type - unsecured.Anyone can log onto either wireless network connection but only with the correct password. How do I remove the '####' address and also how do I make the '#### - Guest' address a secure one.
I got a wireless HP all-in-one PC and was able to connect to the Internet via the free Dlink wi-fi access point. Dlink no longer appears in the list of available networks. The network adapters are fine. I'm running Windows 7.
Recently returned from a holiday where thee were various free wifi hotspots. Some needed a password which the cafe just gave you if you asked, others were open. My laptop connected without any problems at all these places except one. Other people at the same cafe did not have any problems but mine would not connect - kept receiving messages about certificates. The cafe owner even tried and could not connect to my laptop. My laptop found the signal okay..
I am looking for a simple First name, surname and email in exchange to unlimited free access to our wifi. Would want the data to load on to Infusionsoft?
I am using Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop.. i have installed a new version of Win 7 64bit OS and i am trying to install drivers. All the drivers have been installed but wifi drivers are not installed Showing the message of "No compatible Hardware is found for the software".. I have tried with all the available drivers for it.
I need an example of a insecure network configuration that is may occur in small-business.For example insecure devices that can be used or how they are connected with each other. Also router/nas/pc configurations. With wireless network it is easy, but i am not familiar with wired networks. Specially I need weak points of a router configurations and weakly designed connections between different devices.I need to design a insecure small-business network configuration for my school project. For example 2 workstations, 1 laptop, NAS, network printer, VoIP telephone etc. After that I need to analyse these weak points.
I am using Cisco 861 router for simple network access. I have configured the router correctly with support from few folks of this community but now I am facing a different problem. I am able to ping, tracert and nslookup any internet destination. I am also able to brows secure sites like [URL] but normal URLs like [URL] is not working. I have tried to debug IP TCP Packet Port 80 but it is not showing any results.
I run a small coffee shop and want to offer free wifi to my customers while also having a secure network for my point of sale/internal network. What is the best way to do this on a limited budget? And what is the best way to protect the secure network?
I am working on an Acer netbook One series ZG5. The issue is that it will not connect to a wireless network if any of the security authentication protocals are activative. It will connect and operate fine via the hardwired RJ45 ethiernet connection. If I set the network up on the wireless router to an open network I can connect to it just fine. I have no issues opening IE8 when connected to an unsecured network. This box did work until I was reimiaging an desktop that had issues and used a usb thumb drive to store files from the desktop to the netbook prior to wiping the desktop.
I have a linksys router and a time warner modem, we have not had any problems until the past month, and the problem gets worse every day. Our secure WAP2 comes unsecure and changes to the name "linksys". The connectivity has been 2 bars at best, and out lap tops, and iphones will not stay connected to wifi. occasoinally my iphone says it cannot find the network. this happened with our Iphone 3 and 3GS, and now our new 3GS and 4. all software on the computers and iphones is up to date, and we are one room away from the router and modem
Using Cisco Connest I set up a password for guest access. It will function for a time then suddenly become insecure. Sometimes it will function for a month, sometimes a week. I have to reset the Unit to factory defaults each time and began again.
My linksys 4200 was set up some time ago for me, (unsecured) and was working fine. I was having problems with just 1 desktop that was using a usb wireless adapter, so I went and purchased a new cisco ae2500. While connecting I used the push button that it described, only it knocked out the network, and all the other computers are now off of the network. The new network(s) are Cisco_WPS_42526 (secure) and Cisco_WPS_42526-guest. Not knowing the network key and the guys that set it up are gone, I tried the guest. WHICH REQUIRES A PASSWORD!!!! I can now not get ANY of my computers online! How do I find the security, or the password? Why would you need a password for an insecure network anyway?
I am trying come up with a setup that allows for a computer to simultaneously be connected to the web via a secure wireless network and to provide a shared drive via an unsecured (possibly ad hoc) wireless network.Which is to say, the computer needs to be able to use the web wirelessly via the secure network, and people need to be able to share files with it wirelessly whether or not THEY can use the secure wifi. One last requirement is that I need a this to be something that I can set up in a given location with no more configuration than required to connect to the secured wifi - if the setup requires me to mess around with the configuration of the router for the secure network itself, it won't work.
i have a Linksys modem BEFSR81 v.3 and am trying to reset my wifi password for secure connection. When i log into the the admin page, to my surprise, I could not find the security feature to create WPA or WEP password. i'm stumped. This has never occurred to me before on this modem.
When I check available Wi-Fi networks it says "No connections are available. All of our other computers work so I dont know what the problem is. When I check device manager for the adapter it says my adapter is enabled so I dont know what the problem is. How can I get it to recognize my wi-fi?
I am facing a problem since today as my WiFi is turned on, but i cannot view the list of networks that is available in my workplace. When i asked my colleague whether he could view the list in his laptop, he was able to. And also when i checked through my smart phone i was able to view a list of wireless networks. So it means there is some error in my laptop. I realised this when i tried creating a AD-HOC connection which eventually resulted in 'Windows cannot set up NETWORK NAME'. Why is it that i am not able to view the list of wireless network? And why can't i establish a AD-HOC connection?
I'd like to know if there is some easy-ish way to combine wifi and ethernet in a network.Since a picture says a thousand words, here's what I want to achieve:I use the desktop computer as a file and media server using windows home group.I have the laptop running windows 7 connected to the TV.So far I've been using just wifi, but when I try to stream movies from my desktop to the laptop I get freezes and glitches.I can't connect both my desktop and laptop wired to the ADSL router, since it's behind a wall I'm not allowed to drill trough.I have a spare network switch and cables, so I was thinking I could connect the ethernet adapters on the desktop and laptop together trough the switch, I'm just not sure how to configure the computers.
i own an THOSHIBA SATELITE M300 using WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE SERVICE PACK 1 and recently my laptop has stopped finding any wireless networks. Other laptops connect via wireless to the hub without any problems so it must be a problem with my wireless card. Ive tried turning off my hub, as well as system restore and uninstalling my wireless device and letting my laptop reinstall it but it hasn't changed anything. my device manager says that my wireless card is working fine.Even i reinstalled the drivers.
My neighbor and I were wondering if it is possible to combine our respective internet connections in order to gain a faster connection overall. What would be ideal would to have a wireless router in one of our houses, that is simultaneously connected to both of our ADSL routers, and to which both of us are able to connect. Do I need a specific type of router?
