Connect A Router To Multiple Wifi Networks?

Nov 19, 2012

My neighbor and I were wondering if it is possible to combine our respective internet connections in order to gain a faster connection overall. What would be ideal would to have a wireless router in one of our houses, that is simultaneously connected to both of our ADSL routers, and to which both of us are able to connect. Do I need a specific type of router?

Setting Up Two Separate Networks With One Isp?

Feb 5, 2012

I would like to set up two separate networks from one internet connection(modem), with the goal being to have a public network(Network A) that would have a small server on it, and then having a second secured network(Network B) that would have my personal computers on it. And both networks having connection to the internet. (The idea being that if the server somehow became compromised that my personal computers and their data would be safe)I have done some research and found that many people claim this can be done with just two or three routers, but none of them go into any detail about how to configure the routers. Below are the physical setups of the two options that I have come up with in my research, which if either would you recommend? And how would I configure each of the routers?

--------------
Modem/router 1 (Network A public)
--Internet-in WAN port
--port 1 to WAN of router 2-------------l
--port 2 server

[code]...

Setting Up 2 Networks On 1 Switch

Apr 18, 2011

I'm asked to think of a solution to make in an existing LAN connected by switches (connected to each other) to make another network availible.atm we have a network with 192.168.110.0 and we are short on IP adresses because of a large DHCP pool from wireless clients and a growing network with static IP addresses. So basicly what i want to accomplish is an extra network 192.168.111.0 in the existing LAN and all computers have to be able to communicate to each other and all computers have to be able to connect to the internet using gateway 192.168.110.1 (direct or trough route tables). For future growth an extra LAN 192.168.112.0 with not perse internet access for only VOIP, but that is on the side and is not a priority, because I can set up that network on the same switches easy without having them to be able to connect to the computers and servers in the network. (correct me if I am wrong)

What I found out browsing the internet is that a layer 3 switch may provide the solution, but I can't make out of the technical specs if thats going to work when both LAN's computers will be connected on the same switches. Also I found a lot of solutions with setting up a server with 2 NIC's and setting up routes on that server. But since we have a very large amount of network traffic with large graphical files, having 2 nics to route all that trafic doesn't seem like a desirable solution for my purpose.

Setting Up Separate Networks With VLAN

Oct 3, 2012

I'm new at this stuff and very stumped. I have one WAP with multiple SSIDs that support VLAN ID (for a private and guest wireless network) and a managed switch that supports tag or port based VLAN ID. How do I set up the switch so that the networks are separate, but can still reach their own routers to get on the Internet? In case details are necessary, the WAP is a Cisco Aironet 1130AG and the switch is a Netgear FS750T2

Linksys WRT54G / Setting Up 2 Networks On One WAN Address?

Apr 2, 2011

In my home, I have broadband internet connection, which is Time Warner Cable. I also have an Apple Airport Extreme that shares my internet throughout all of my computers. My current set up runs perfectly but the problem is, I have other devices in my home that require a WEP security key. My Airport Extreme is running on WPA but I don't want to lower it's security to WEP just for those devices. What I'm trying to do is create another separate network which has a WEP security key (Linksys WRT54G). So ultimately, I would like to set up two networks, one is the Airport Extreme and the other Linksys, which both run under the same WAN address provided by Time Warner Cable.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Extend E4200 Wifi Networks With Cisco Ap1250?

I assume that the E4200 uses VLANs for the the guest network.  Is it possible to trunk the LAN interface and pass that vlan to the switch so that you can pass the vlan to an AP?Would be great to see the Guest wireless on the Cisco 1250 like I do the main SSID.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 - Setting Up 2 LAN Networks And 2 WAN Connections?

May 16, 2013

I have an ASA 5505 with Security Bundle license.

I am able to create 2 LAN networks (192.168.9.0 and 172.16.9.0) Vlan1 and Vlan12 respectively. I also setup 2 outside interfaces (outside1 and outside2).

Network 1 (192.168.9.0 - VLAN1) has no issues going out via Outside1, however I can't get Network 2 (172.16.9.0 - VLAN 12) to go thru outside2.

I put in a static route (route outside 172.16.9.0 255.255.255.0 x.x.x.x), the x.x.x.x is the default gateway of my ISP.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200v2 Make Networks Hidden Through Wifi Smart Software

Dec 27, 2012

Is there any way to make networks hidden through the WiFi Smart software? I have a Cisco Linksys E4200V2. I have gone through everything to try figure out how to make my S.S.I.D. to not be broadcasted, but seems like the only way to make it hidden is to use the Origonal Firmware make it as hidden, then install the New Firmware and software. Seems like Cisco may have missed this option. I do know a lot of people would prefer their Networks hidden for a little security. I know it isn't much, cause if someone wants to get that info it's not hard to get it. But for people who don't know or don't want to waste all the time to find the Hidden Network name can be turned away, for going through that extra step.

Home Network :: Setting Up Networks With Multiple Locations / Wireless Points?

Feb 11, 2011

setting up networks with multiple locations and multiple wireless points. For example: My sisters' home has here modem in her main computer room, it has a Belkin router hooked to the modem. Then a line goes from there to my nephew's room where I tried to expand their network by adding another router. I really just wanted an access point, but they don't seem to sell these as much as they used to. Anyway, I had it working, but it was two different networks, NETWORK1 and NETWORK2. So they had to swap networks when moving around the house. what would be the best hardware setup to provide both sides of the house with some Hardwired access as well as wifi access? Right now, we have two routers, a DIR615 (or something like that) and a Cisco E1000, and again hardwire going from the main computer room to my nephew's room. Also, in my house, I have lots of stuff... I have an Actiontec Router from FIOS, feeding a small hub as well as a switch in my main room. Which then feeds a Ps3, Wii, laptop, Denon reciever, and Access Point... and also feeds my Apple TimeCapsule, which also feeds my printer. My wireless devices range from cameras, iphones/ipads, and a wifi unit (I forget what it's called, but it connects my DVR wirelessly to my network, and the DVR itself doesn't have wifi).

my question about my setup is, should everything be on one network... as in let the ActionTec handle most of the duties and use switchers and accesspoints to extend the network. Should everything be on the same wireless network and channels? Like if I used my access point to extend, do I want the same settings as my main wireless router, and would that be the same for the Apple Airport Extreme? Also, does having all these wireless networks going create any kind of hinderance on my performance. For example, the PS3 has some sort of wifi in it... it produces a SSID, but I never connect to it. Should I make sure that's off? And in my main room, should I go with just the AirPort extreme over using it and the Wireless Access point.

Cisco Switches :: ESW-520 / Setting Up Two Separate Networks With Access To Shared Resources?

Jan 19, 2013

We have a two separate businesses in the same building who will both need access to shared resources and the same internet connection. They will need to remain on separate subnets and cannot communicate directly to each other. The current switch is a Cisco ESW-520-48P and we are looking at purchasing an SG-300-20P for the new business moving in. Heres how we envisage setting it up:

ESW-520 will host Company A's network. Workstations, servers etcSG-300 will have two VLANS. VLAN1 will host all Company B's network. Workstations, servers etc. VLAN2 will host the shared resources such as printers. The internet gateway is a UNIX based system with 3 NICS. 2 NICS are taken up by ADSL connections while the other NIC is the LAN, which would connect to VLAN2 on the SG-300. We would like to define which ADSL connection to route through depending on which subnet traffic is originating. The ESW-520 will need access to the shared resources and internet gateway on VLAN2 on the SG-300.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Wrt54g - Setting Up Wifi Network?

Apr 27, 2013

I have the following equipment
E2500 wireless N router (2 of these)
WRT54g router (B/G)
WAP54g access point (B/G)

I am planning to set up a wi-fi network for a single story motel. It is C-shaped; about 300 feet along the longest side with "legs" of 120 and 70 feet. I have included a diagram that I drew for the person that will install it. Until now I have only used that single WRT54g in the office for the entire property and it covers about half the property (left side) but not well and with a dead spot in the top left because of too many walls to go through.

My plan starts in the office (bottom left) with a WRT54g connected to the DSL modem as it always was. That would be connected to one of the E2500s in the middle so it can cover the most area. From there two others would shoot out to each corner (the other E2500 and the WAP54g). They will all be wired together with Cat 5e "riser cable". The routers will be placed in a wide open attic.

1. Is this is a good plan for the size of property? I have heard that N routers have a range of 150ft in every direction so that's why I'm putting one in the middle. Keep in mind that while the attic is open and wood constructed, the walls between rooms are concrete firewall and they haven't been wi-fi friendly. Hopefully putting them in the attic takes care of this.

2. Does starting with a B/G router at the modem mean the N routers will revert to B/G?

3. What are the main settings I need to know about? What "mode" does each need to be set to?  Do they need different default gateways?

Can I use the same password/security for all of them? Should I use the same SSID for all?

Linksys Wireless Router :: Setting Up Wifi Security To Access Wrt54gl?

Jun 7, 2011

setting up my new WRT54GL.this is my first encounter with a wireless router, though I've had 3 previous Linksys (hardwired) routers.I have to say, given that they give virtually no Mac support, it was a breeze….just plugged it in to my cable modem and my laptop and - boom - on the net on my first try!I'm able to access the router via it's web-based system and can now "tweak" with settings, but I'm running in to a lot of "tweakable" settings that I'm not familiar with.

First my setup. I have; (a.) 3 desktop Macs and a Samsung TV hardwired to the four Ethernet ports and (b.) my Mac laptop accessing the router via Airport Extreme wifi. All are happily accessing the web.But I realize that the reason that "(b.)" is accessing the web is that I've changed no default settings in the router and, not only can *I* access the router via wifi, but probably anyone driving down the road or sitting out in front of my house can access the web via my wifi. And I'd like to change that.I'm *guessing* that the router settings i need to change lie in the "Wireless Security" area of the router? And it's here that I'm running in to a lot of "tweakable" settings that I don't understand. But let me give an example of what I would *like* to accomplish.

Let's say that there are 3 different laptops…."A", "B" and "C". All 3 are Macs and running Airport Extreme. Now, "A" is my laptop, sitting here on my desk next to the router. As i leave Airport always turned on, I want "A" to *always* have access to the routers wifi *without* having to enter a username/password, i.e. when i turn "A" on, it's wired. Now "B" might be the laptop of a friend who happens by the house and need access. They would need to find my network on their laptop and then i would need to give them a password to let them get on .And finally, "C" is the guy I don't know out in the street whom I want to *never* have access to my network. So my question then is, can I accomplish this by changing settings in "Wireless Security" on my router and how/what would I change?

Combining Ethernet And Wifi Networks

No Wireless Networks Ar9285 Wifi Card?

Jan 26, 2012

I have read numerous postings on this and ather sites about the Atheros AR9285 not being able to see wireless networks - and guess what I have the same problem! My laptop is an HP CQ61-312SA upgraded to 4GB of ram, and running Windows 7 Home Premium, I have tried everything I can find on this and other forum sites with no luck at all, including updating drivers, making sure Wlan is started etc and I have downloaded programs like Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector and Insider = both of which show absolutely nothing.I have one other problem that might indicate a software problem - on the odd occasion when my computer does try to connect to a wireless network it resets to a blue scree which states that it is doing a 'physical memorey dump' and then restarts. My Atheros card has worked perfectly for 2 years, but I managed to purchase another it case it was faulty - with the same results. I also upgraded the memory in case of a memory fault.Rolling back drivers and using system restore does not work and ipconfig/all gives identical readouts to others with this problem.

Wireless Usb Adapter Not Picking Up Any Wifi Networks

I took this wifi adapter from a pc that isn't being used, and decided to plug it into one that is. While it was in the other pc, it worked, now that it's in this pc it doesn't detect ANY wifi networks. I decided to plug it into a laptop and it worked the minute the drivers were installed. The problems are as follows:

* When plugged into the pc, the adapter's utility app just says "Checking status" and no info being displayed thereafter.
* Windows says the device is working, but it does not come up in the Internet Access popup window in the task bar.
* No info comes up in Xirrus except for the name of the adapter.

I installed both the drivers that came with the adapter, and the latest drivers from windows update. Neither worked. It is a Billion BiPAC 3011N adapter.

Home Network :: How To Connect And Prioritize Different Networks To Wifi Route

Oct 11, 2012

I work in a small village in Africa and Interent access is often very unreliableTherefore I have 3 different ways of accessing the Interent from my home. The cheapest is Wifi from a local provider, but that doesn't always work. More expensive and still often unreliable is a 3G access. Then, when WiFi and 3G don't work I still can access the Internet via a Inmarsat BGAN satellite terminal, but that is very expensive. What I'd like do is to connect several computers to the same WiFi, 3G, BGAN Satellite Interent (all Ethernet) access via a home WiFi network. Now the questions I have:- can I just connect everything to a switch and then to the Wan-port of a wireless router?- how do the prioritisation works? When there is 3G available, I dont want to access the Internet via the BGAN, bacause that's too expensive?

Unable To Find Wifi Networks On Windows 7 Acer 3810t

May 9, 2011

I have an Acer 3810T laptop and am running Windows 7 on it.The problem I've had is my WiFi has been unstable. For example for 5 minutes or sometimes up to an hour I can easily find wifi networks in range of my laptop but then out of nowhere it disappears and I don't find any networks but any other WiFi device will find my router so I know it's laptop related.I did some research on Google and found out this is an issue others have had with Windows 7 and it seems to be something to do with when updates are installed. I followed the advice to remove my WiFi drivers and reinstall them so I downloaded a file for the Intel drivers from Acer's website. I went into Control Panel and removed 2 devices that were related to WiFi. I then did a scan for hardware and found one wifi device, an Intel WiFI Link 5100AGN. I installed the driver for this one. The problem is I know I removed two and this is the only one the scan found and I can't remember the name of the other wifi device/driver I removed.Unfortunately ever since I did this my WiFi isn't working. In the control panel it shows all drivers are installed and working but when I click on the bars at the bottom of my screen no wifi networks show. I have tried going into the Network and Sharing Center and for example I select set up a connection or network and when I select Manually Connect to a wireless network it states "An Unexpected Error Occured" so I know something is missing that's allowing the WiFI to work.

Linksys Wireless Adapters :: Wmp600n Does Not Find Any Wifi Networks

Jan 29, 2011

I've been having major issues with my wireless on this computer (randomly decides not to work while computers in the same room are fine) so I got a new wireless card to see what it could do. Installed it, everything says it's installed fine, but it will NOT detect any wireless networks. Not just mine, any of the 8+ networks I can usually detect from my room. I'm on Win7 Professional 64.

Things I've tried (and I'll be seriously annoyed if people reccomend doing them a 14th time, as I've already spent an hour on livechat with a support person telling me to do things I told her I'd already done):

Installed with 4 different drivers (the ones on the CD, the ones on the website, two versions directly from Ralink for the chipset) Tried both the manual and automatic "update driver" options in device manager. Uninstalled/reinstalled it like 4 times. Moved it to a new PCI slot.

Removed the old adapter before installing it. Removed the old adapter after installing it. Tried connecting to my network as a "hidden" network (which it's not). Installed only the driver and not the adapter utility, and used the utility. Installed the software before physically installing the adapter. Installed it after physically installing the adapter.

I'm at a loss. It doesn't detect ANY networks. No, it's not a problem with my network, there's more than a half dozen that my other adapter, in the same computer, can detect. And I don't know why. It has not ever worked properly. The antennae are on properly, nothing is interfering with it (though that would be odd since it's 3 inches from an adapter that can detect other networks). I might be willing to accept that it's just DoA, but that would be odd considering it installs just fine and reports that it's working just fine.
