View 2 Replies View RelatedMy neighbor and I were wondering if it is possible to combine our respective internet connections in order to gain a faster connection overall. What would be ideal would to have a wireless router in one of our houses, that is simultaneously connected to both of our ADSL routers, and to which both of us are able to connect. Do I need a specific type of router?

View 5 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to make networks hidden through the WiFi Smart software? I have a Cisco Linksys E4200V2. I have gone through everything to try figure out how to make my S.S.I.D. to not be broadcasted, but seems like the only way to make it hidden is to use the Origonal Firmware make it as hidden, then install the New Firmware and software. Seems like Cisco may have missed this option. I do know a lot of people would prefer their Networks hidden for a little security. I know it isn't much, cause if someone wants to get that info it's not hard to get it. But for people who don't know or don't want to waste all the time to find the Hidden Network name can be turned away, for going through that extra step.

When i asked my colleague whether he could view the list in his laptop, he was able to. And also when i checked through my smart phone i was able to view a list of wireless networks. So it means there is some error in my laptop. I realised this when i tried creating a AD-HOC connection which eventually resulted in 'Windows cannot set up NETWORK NAME'. Why is it that i am not able to view the list of wireless network? And why can't i establish a AD-HOC connection?

Other laptops connect via wireless to the hub without any problems so it must be a problem with my wireless card. I also upgraded the memory in case of a memory fault.Rolling back drivers and using system restore does not work and ipconfig/all gives identical readouts to others with this problem.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI took this wifi adapter from a pc that isn't being used, and decided to plug it into one that is. While it was in the other pc, it worked, now that it's in this pc it doesn't detect ANY wifi networks. I decided to plug it into a laptop and it worked the minute the drivers were installed. The problems are as follows:
* When plugged into the pc, the adapter's utility app just says "Checking status" and no info being displayed thereafter.
* Windows says the device is working, but it does not come up in the Internet Access popup window in the task bar.
* No info comes up in Xirrus except for the name of the adapter.
I installed both the drivers that came with the adapter, and the latest drivers from windows update. Neither worked. It is a Billion BiPAC 3011N adapter.
I have tried restarting my laptop multiple times (something that usually works for me in terms of reconnecting to the internet) but that didn't work. And like i said it does not recognize a single wi-fi network while my ipod, phone, and the other computers in my household recognize our wi-fi and our usual neighbors wi-fi without any problem.I was torrentingsome music yesterday, and may or may not have stumbled across a bad site with a virus, but that's the only conclusion I could make.(Currently posting this on my brother's computer)I need to get my connection back and get online again asap?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI work in a small village in Africa and Interent access is often very unreliableTherefore I have 3 different ways of accessing the Interent from my home. The cheapest is Wifi from a local provider, but that doesn't always work. More expensive and still often unreliable is a 3G access. Then, when WiFi and 3G don't work I still can access the Internet via a Inmarsat BGAN satellite terminal, but that is very expensive. What I'd like do is to connect several computers to the same WiFi, 3G, BGAN Satellite Interent (all Ethernet) access via a home WiFi network. Now the questions I have:- can I just connect everything to a switch and then to the Wan-port of a wireless router?- how do the prioritisation works? When there is 3G available, I dont want to access the Internet via the BGAN, bacause that's too expensive?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer 3810T laptop and am running Windows 7 on it.The problem I've had is my WiFi has been unstable. For example for 5 minutes or sometimes up to an hour I can easily find wifi networks in range of my laptop but then out of nowhere it disappears and I don't find any networks but any other WiFi device will find my router so I know it's laptop related.I did some research on Google and found out this is an issue others have had with Windows 7 and it seems to be something to do with when updates are installed. I followed the advice to remove my WiFi drivers and reinstall them so I downloaded a file for the Intel drivers from Acer's website. I went into Control Panel and removed 2 devices that were related to WiFi. I then did a scan for hardware and found one wifi device, an Intel WiFI Link 5100AGN. I installed the driver for this one. The problem is I know I removed two and this is the only one the scan found and I can't remember the name of the other wifi device/driver I removed.Unfortunately ever since I did this my WiFi isn't working. In the control panel it shows all drivers are installed and working but when I click on the bars at the bottom of my screen no wifi networks show. I have tried going into the Network and Sharing Center and for example I select set up a connection or network and when I select Manually Connect to a wireless network it states "An Unexpected Error Occured" so I know something is missing that's allowing the WiFI to work.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been having major issues with my wireless on this computer (randomly decides not to work while computers in the same room are fine) so I got a new wireless card to see what it could do. Installed it, everything says it's installed fine, but it will NOT detect any wireless networks. Not just mine, any of the 8+ networks I can usually detect from my room. I'm on Win7 Professional 64.
Things I've tried (and I'll be seriously annoyed if people reccomend doing them a 14th time, as I've already spent an hour on livechat with a support person telling me to do things I told her I'd already done):
Installed with 4 different drivers (the ones on the CD, the ones on the website, two versions directly from Ralink for the chipset) Tried both the manual and automatic "update driver" options in device manager. Uninstalled/reinstalled it like 4 times. Moved it to a new PCI slot.
Removed the old adapter before installing it. Removed the old adapter after installing it. Tried connecting to my network as a "hidden" network (which it's not). Installed only the driver and not the adapter utility, and used the utility. Installed the software before physically installing the adapter. Installed it after physically installing the adapter.
I'm at a loss. It doesn't detect ANY networks. No, it's not a problem with my network, there's more than a half dozen that my other adapter, in the same computer, can detect. And I don't know why. It has not ever worked properly. The antennae are on properly, nothing is interfering with it (though that would be odd since it's 3 inches from an adapter that can detect other networks). I might be willing to accept that it's just DoA, but that would be odd considering it installs just fine and reports that it's working just fine.
I am having trouble connecting my device to certain WiFi networks. We work with hotels and we have a handful of devices that are just not able to connect to their network. Te device works fine in my office. When I get to the Setup page and do a site survey, it'll get to 100% and then display a "page can't be found" as oppose to showing me that it has been connected. We had the MAC address cleared in their network and still no luck. Firmware has also been updated.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to set up two routers so that I can offer free wireless connectivity via three AP's in three adjoining rooms on a first floor and secured wireless and wired network connectivity in upstairs offices. The setup is like this:
Verizon DSL connectivity..static IP
The gateway modem/router is a Verizon DLink DSL 2750B with three ports connecting to three wired Access Points in three first floor adjoining rooms, and the 4th port connecting to a Cisco E1200 (wireless and ethernet router) located next to the Verizon Dlink. I would like the Verizon DLink to give open wireless connectivity via the access points and also connect to the adjacent E1200 router.
I would like the Cisco E1200 to offer secured wireless and ethernet connectivity to the upstairs offices. (connecterd to the Cisco E1200 is a 24 port Netgear switch.)I have spent considerable time talking with Verizon and Cisco/Linksys but have not been successful in just how to set this up.A former tech actually did have this setup but for what ever reason the settings were reset to factory defaults with no written record as to the necessary settings.
I have two networks that are on two different IP ranges, sharing an ADSL internet router.I can make the two networks access the internet through a Windows 7 PC acting as a router with two NICs, but I cannot print to a shared network printer (build in NIC in the printer). This is how it looks.
ADSL router IP:
IP address: 10.10.10.253
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Network A computers:
IP range of: 10.10.10.XXX
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 10.10.10.253
[code]....
Note: All the computers can access the internet just fine, it's only the one set of computers on IP range 172.16.0.XXX that cannot see the printer. All computers are Windows 7 32bit Professional.
*-my router is a sonicwall nsa 2400. (ip: 192.168.0.7)
*-my network adresse is : 192.168.0.X /255.255.255.0
*-all computers in my network are using stat ips (not my fault, and i can not change this fact).
Question: Can i add a new network range (not physical wires ) in this router expl 192.168.1./255.255.255.0 X with DHCP,and link it to 192.168.0.X so two computers in this differents networks range can talk to each others ?
I have a cable modem, hub and two routers. One router is wireless and the computers on this router have an IP address of 10.1.x.x. The other is a wired router and the computers on this router have an IP address of 192.168.x.x. Computers on both networks have Internet access but can't talk to computers on the other router. What I'm wondering is instead of using 3 hardware devices (1 hub/2 routers), is there any router model that will allow me to setup two internal networks similar to what I have above. I just want to cut down on the equipment and power that I use with my current setup.
