Home Network :: How To Connect And Prioritize Different Networks To Wifi Route
Oct 11, 2012
I work in a small village in Africa and Interent access is often very unreliableTherefore I have 3 different ways of accessing the Interent from my home. The cheapest is Wifi from a local provider, but that doesn't always work. More expensive and still often unreliable is a 3G access. Then, when WiFi and 3G don't work I still can access the Internet via a Inmarsat BGAN satellite terminal, but that is very expensive. What I'd like do is to connect several computers to the same WiFi, 3G, BGAN Satellite Interent (all Ethernet) access via a home WiFi network. Now the questions I have:- can I just connect everything to a switch and then to the Wan-port of a wireless router?- how do the prioritisation works? When there is 3G available, I dont want to access the Internet via the BGAN, bacause that's too expensive?

My Wifi network has a wpa2 password that is a random string of characters and numbers and yet last month a rogue IP Address kept popping up on my DNS list. It has to be coming from my neighbor who's bedroom is about 15 feet away from my router. So unless someone is sitting out on my front lawn to do this then it must be him.I've been looking for software that will notify me when a connection my router is attempted and kudos if it also asks my permission first would be great. There are wifi packet sniffers out there like Cain&Abel, Airsnort, that sort of thing but I am not quite savvy enough nor do I want to turn this into a complicated hobby but just need a basic warningin case something gets past my passwords again

I am using OPEN VPN in order to connect to a Canadian VPN server.I want ALL internet traffic to ONLY use the VPN connection and no traffic shall pass through my local ISP under any circumstance. In the event the VPN disconnects, I DO NOT want any internet traffic automatically sent via my LOCAL ISP connection. Can I simply disable my LAN network adapter in windows AFTER the vpn is connected? (since vpn uses its own TAP adapter?)

My laptop have 2 NIC attach it, the cable NIC and Wireless NIC, the cable one connect to my lab network environment and the Wireless connect to office network environment (connect to internet) which both have differen segments [code] when my Wireless was turn off my pc can ping to all segment on my lab network environment, but if the wireless was turn on, i cant ping to others segment but only my laptop segment and i still could surfing to the internet without any problem.then i tried to add a new route from my laptop using "route add x.x.x.x mask x.x.x.x (gateway)" in command line and after that i can ping back to all segment in my lab network environment eventhough my wireless was onwhy i have to create a manual route into my laptop so that i can have connection between my laptop and my lab environment in the condition my wireless turn on ??

I have the above router on 10.10.10.1 which I'm quite familiar with but I need reaching a VM residing on one of my internal MAC's. My cisco route table is as follows:
Gateway of last resort is 93.97.20.1 to network 0.0.0.0

C 10.10.10.0 is directly connected, BVI1
S* 0.0.0.0/0 [1/0] via 93.97.20.1
The internal physical machine that contains the VM is 10.10.10.9 whose routing table is:

The VM has a static IP of 10.211.55.5 and can obviously ping out to the rest of my lan but as of yet my router and other machines on the 10.10.10/24 subnet cannot reach the VM. I sort of presume this is a simple task of adding some kind of static route on my router and then all other machine will know how to get to the VM. So what do I need to do as I have about 40 or so customers already connected of whom I do not wish to suddenly halt their access due to my inexperienced attempts to create this route or new link(s)

What device would be necessary to link two networks of identical type? What devices would be necessary to link two networks of dissimilar types?I would say a network card and HUB for identical type but I do not know if this is correct?Describe the parameters governing the choice of cable type for a given network. What are the three main types of cables used in computer networks?

is it possible for a client to choose a WAN to use when being routed through a Multi-WAN router? Something that could be configured as default route in linux or default gateway in winxp ?Or is this decision totally up to the router itself ? [code] Could now a client on the subnet 192.168.0.0/24 choose 1.1.1.1 as a default route for example? And if not, could this be possible if the router hat some secondary internal IPs for both WAN interfaces.

Here's the layout: Cable modem in the basement. Several devices in which I'd prefer a wired connection in the basement. Upstairs on the 1st and 2nd floor of the house are many devices in which wifi is fine or preferred. Here's the problem: As you might guess, wifi is weak upstairs and certainly on the patio and 2nd floor. I have an access point upstairs that I've experimented with but it is flaky.

setting up networks with multiple locations and multiple wireless points. For example: My sisters' home has here modem in her main computer room, it has a Belkin router hooked to the modem. Then a line goes from there to my nephew's room where I tried to expand their network by adding another router. I really just wanted an access point, but they don't seem to sell these as much as they used to. Anyway, I had it working, but it was two different networks, NETWORK1 and NETWORK2. So they had to swap networks when moving around the house. what would be the best hardware setup to provide both sides of the house with some Hardwired access as well as wifi access? Right now, we have two routers, a DIR615 (or something like that) and a Cisco E1000, and again hardwire going from the main computer room to my nephew's room. Also, in my house, I have lots of stuff... I have an Actiontec Router from FIOS, feeding a small hub as well as a switch in my main room. Which then feeds a Ps3, Wii, laptop, Denon reciever, and Access Point... and also feeds my Apple TimeCapsule, which also feeds my printer. My wireless devices range from cameras, iphones/ipads, and a wifi unit (I forget what it's called, but it connects my DVR wirelessly to my network, and the DVR itself doesn't have wifi).
my question about my setup is, should everything be on one network... as in let the ActionTec handle most of the duties and use switchers and accesspoints to extend the network. Should everything be on the same wireless network and channels? Like if I used my access point to extend, do I want the same settings as my main wireless router, and would that be the same for the Apple Airport Extreme? Also, does having all these wireless networks going create any kind of hinderance on my performance. For example, the PS3 has some sort of wifi in it... it produces a SSID, but I never connect to it. Should I make sure that's off? And in my main room, should I go with just the AirPort extreme over using it and the Wireless Access point.

My neighbor and I were wondering if it is possible to combine our respective internet connections in order to gain a faster connection overall. What would be ideal would to have a wireless router in one of our houses, that is simultaneously connected to both of our ADSL routers, and to which both of us are able to connect. Do I need a specific type of router?

And like i said it does not recognize a single wi-fi network while my ipod, phone, and the other computers in my household recognize our wi-fi and our usual neighbors wi-fi without any problem.I was torrentingsome music yesterday, and may or may not have stumbled across a bad site with a virus, but that's the only conclusion I could make.(Currently posting this on my brother's computer)I need to get my connection back and get online again asap?

I have two private networks and want/need to route traffic between them. I also have an ISP connection and want/need to provide internet to at least one of the private networks. Providing internet access to both is not required or desired.
Can this be accomplished with an RV042? If so, how?
P.s. The problem space, once again, in a non-narrative form with some addresses thrown in:
Private Network A: 192.168.200.0/24
Private Network B: 10.50.3.96/27
ISP Network C: 192.168.0.0/24 192.168.0.1GW 192.168.0.2 is WAN1 address on RV042
Required Traffic Flow
A <--> B

i've just a D-Link DIR-600 router last month and i successfully installed it and its working great. Until 2 to days ago, my brother told me that he can't conlnect to the wi-fi. I said that its working just fine and told him to just reset his phone. And then, my sister also told me that she can't connect too. I checked their devices like iPhone 4S and iTouch and it says "Unable to join the network....... Also phones of my friends can't connect also. It was just working fine. I haven't changed anything on the router's configuration. I already reset the router, unplug then plug it and its still not working. The router is connected to my laptop and I can still browse the internet. Its the wireless connection that is not.
