Nov 24, 2011My Wifi network has a wpa2 password that is a random string of characters and numbers and yet last month a rogue IP Address kept popping up on my DNS list. It has to be coming from my neighbor who's bedroom is about 15 feet away from my router. So unless someone is sitting out on my front lawn to do this then it must be him.I've been looking for software that will notify me when a connection my router is attempted and kudos if it also asks my permission first would be great.There are wifi packet sniffers out there like Cain&Abel, Airsnort, that sort of thing but I am not quite savvy enough nor do I want to turn this into a complicated hobby but just need a basic warningin case something gets past my passwords again

Oct 11, 2012I work in a small village in Africa and Interent access is often very unreliableTherefore I have 3 different ways of accessing the Interent from my home.The cheapest is Wifi from a local provider, but that doesn't always work. More expensive and still often unreliable is a 3G access. Then, when WiFi and 3G don't work I still can access the Internet via a Inmarsat BGAN satellite terminal, but that is very expensive.What I'd like do is to connect several computers to the same WiFi, 3G, BGAN Satellite Interent (all Ethernet) access via a home WiFi network.Now the questions I have:- can I just connect everything to a switch and then to the Wan-port of a wireless router?- how do the prioritisation works? When there is 3G available, I dont want to access the Internet via the BGAN, bacause that's too expensive?

May 23, 2011My 24" iMac has been running off airport extreme wireless Internet for a few months flawlessly. All of a sudden one day our power goes out.. No problem, reset the system: should be fine. Not the case. Now my iMac can connect to the router but the signal is very weak almost useless and sometimes it won't connect at all. I've tried everything... Diagnostics say it's fine but then other times it says no IP address. Other routers work fine though. And the other computers I'm the building all have perfect connection... What do I try?

Dec 20, 2011The printer, EPSON SX515W Series, is connected to the old computer, plugged in. The other laptops were not connected to the printer and would print as wireless. However now only the old computer prints directly to the printer, the other laptops fail to print it says that the laptop has the EPSON printer as it's default printer yet when ever I try to print, an exclamation mark in yellow triangle appears on the icon, in the control panel>printer section. Troubleshoot does not fix the problem either.The other problem is I can't remember how this was set up as my dad did it, and he will kill me if I don't fix it back. Also the old computer is different to the laptops. Old computer has Windows XP, and the laptops are vista.

Mar 4, 2013I'm trying to use an EPSON WF2530 printer over wifi from my laptop Everythings fine until the printer gets turned off and on and the router assigns a new (different) IP address via DHCP.
I can run:
sudo nmap -PR -sP 192.168.1.1/24
which returns a list of MAC addresses and IP addresses on the LAN and then manually set the printer properties to the new IP address or I can log into the WiFi router and inspect the DHCP table then do the same thing What I'd really like to be able to do is have Ubuntu handle this automatically, e.g. it queries the MAC addresses on the LAN, finds the printer, extracts the current IP address and sets the printer properties appropriately? have to check the printers IP address every time I want to use it.I don't want to go down the route of having a static IP table
