Mar 20, 2012I live in a new apartment building which means a lot of concrete. The internet (fiber) enters the house at the beginning where the modem is hooked up to my Linksys WRT320N. From there two cables run through the house:1 to the home office, where two computers are connected through a switch.1 to the living room, where the Xbox, blue-ray player are connected through a switch.I also have a wifi network running from my WRT320N, but as it is at the beginning of the house, there are some black spots in other parts of the house. I tried to fix this with a Netgear repeater, but that keeps disconnecting.
What I want to do know is place a second linksys device in the living room at the end of the already existing cable that will also broadcast a wifi network, but I want this to be exactly the same Wi-Fi network as I already have. What I want to achieve is that I can walk from one end of the house with my iPad, streaming a video, to the other end of the house and that I always stay connected to the internet and that my tabled just picks up the strongest broadcaster, basically the same as with a mobile phone.

I inserted the installation disc and started going through the process, but my hard drive on my MacBook so I couldn't finish setting up the router. I have borrowed someones PC laptop, but it doesn't have a CD drive. Is there any way I can set up the router on line or any other way? Will the set up work for Macs and PC's?

Dec 18, 2012I'm following a tutorial that 'dumbs down' the modem and lets me use the router for everything.
It asks me to set up a static LAN IP (10.x.x.x range) and edit the DHCP pool of the router. When I'm logged in to the routers admin, it doesn't seem I'm able to do any of this.
Earlier in the tutorial it also asked me to set up a static IP for the router, which I did I suppose.
I've added a screenshot of the admin panel, in case that's relevant.

Mar 5, 2010I have a small home network, in which the DSL modem is some way away from the room in which I do my work. Currently, I use a pair of WAP54G access points to bridge between the two locations, and everything works OK, if slowly.Today, I bought a WRT320N router and a WET610N bridge to replace the access points, but I having a real problem configuring them to work. I think the basic problem is with the IP addresses that they use. The current configuration is:
DSL Modem -> Access Point -- several yards -- Access Point -> PC
and I want to go to:
DSL Modem -> WRT320N -- several yards -- WET610N -> PC
I guess my basic question is this a reasonable idea or should I be using something different for the WRT320N end? I don't want to change the basic IP address subnet (192.168.1.*) and I want to keep the DSL modem as the default gateway (192.168.1.254). When I installed the WRT320, it assigned itself an IP address of 192.168.0.1 and the WET610N an IP address of 192.168.0.101, and I think the DSL modem also assigned the WRT320 an IP address of 192.168.1.99, so I am a little confused as to which IP addresses I should be setting where.

After the last reset/reboot of the wifi, I was unable to set up the wifi beyond use with my laptop. This is, no doubt, user error.WRT320N.No hard wire, wifi is connected to the cable modem. Now my PC which is plugged into the router still works fine, I'm just not able to connect wirelessly anymore. I've tried the basic things like unplugging and rebooting, nothing changes. The lights still say it is transmitting.

Oct 11, 2012I have experienced some strange behavior of WiFi connection using WRT320N router. ISP provides me the internet in 2 modes (day and night). During day mode max speed is 24 Mb/s and during night 60 MB/s. Modem ADSL (Cisco EPC3010) is connected to Linksys WRT320N and on router is configured WiFi.Now issue. In the day mode everything is perfect. Cable connection gives me 24 MB/s and WiFi connection around 22 MB/s so not so bad. However when my internet speeds up to 60 Mb/s (cable connection via router gives exactly 60), WiFi connection instead speed up as well, just drop to max 17 Mb/s. I have tied several different settings on the router including changes in WiFi band, channel width, different channels (now channel is setup to 1 which is maybe not totally free but no so occupied) and others but unfortunately without significant improvement (in many cases connection just slowed down more).
And some details:
Wireless configuration (now)
Band: 2.4GHz
Mode: Wireless-N only
Channel Width: Auto (20MHz or 40 MHz)
Channel: 1
Wireless adaptor: Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 (I know that this doesn’t mean anything but Win7 shows that connection is established with speed 144MB/s)Router firmware and WiFi card updated to the newest version.

E2500 wireless N router (2 of these)
WRT54g router (B/G)
WAP54g access point (B/G)
I am planning to set up a wi-fi network for a single story motel. It is C-shaped; about 300 feet along the longest side with "legs" of 120 and 70 feet. I have included a diagram that I drew for the person that will install it. Until now I have only used that single WRT54g in the office for the entire property and it covers about half the property (left side) but not well and with a dead spot in the top left because of too many walls to go through.
My plan starts in the office (bottom left) with a WRT54g connected to the DSL modem as it always was. That would be connected to one of the E2500s in the middle so it can cover the most area. From there two others would shoot out to each corner (the other E2500 and the WAP54g). They will all be wired together with Cat 5e "riser cable". The routers will be placed in a wide open attic.
1. Is this is a good plan for the size of property? I have heard that N routers have a range of 150ft in every direction so that's why I'm putting one in the middle. Keep in mind that while the attic is open and wood constructed, the walls between rooms are concrete firewall and they haven't been wi-fi friendly. Hopefully putting them in the attic takes care of this.
2. Does starting with a B/G router at the modem mean the N routers will revert to B/G?
3. What are the main settings I need to know about? What "mode" does each need to be set to? Do they need different default gateways?
Can I use the same password/security for all of them? Should I use the same SSID for all?

Jun 7, 2011setting up my new WRT54GL.this is my first encounter with a wireless router, though I've had 3 previous Linksys (hardwired) routers.I have to say, given that they give virtually no Mac support, it was a breeze….just plugged it in to my cable modem and my laptop and - boom - on the net on my first try!I'm able to access the router via it's web-based system and can now "tweak" with settings, but I'm running in to a lot of "tweakable" settings that I'm not familiar with.
First my setup. I have; (a.) 3 desktop Macs and a Samsung TV hardwired to the four Ethernet ports and (b.) my Mac laptop accessing the router via Airport Extreme wifi. All are happily accessing the web.But I realize that the reason that "(b.)" is accessing the web is that I've changed no default settings in the router and, not only can *I* access the router via wifi, but probably anyone driving down the road or sitting out in front of my house can access the web via my wifi. And I'd like to change that.I'm *guessing* that the router settings i need to change lie in the "Wireless Security" area of the router? And it's here that I'm running in to a lot of "tweakable" settings that I don't understand.But let me give an example of what I would *like* to accomplish.
Let's say that there are 3 different laptops…."A", "B" and "C". All 3 are Macs and running Airport Extreme.Now, "A" is my laptop, sitting here on my desk next to the router. As i leave Airport always turned on, I want "A" to *always* have access to the routers wifi *without* having to enter a username/password, i.e. when i turn "A" on, it's wired.Now "B" might be the laptop of a friend who happens by the house and need access. They would need to find my network on their laptop and then i would need to give them a password to let them get on .And finally, "C" is the guy I don't know out in the street whom I want to *never* have access to my network.So my question then is, can I accomplish this by changing settings in "Wireless Security" on my router and how/what would I change?

May 24, 2012I have a Linksys E2000 router on my home network. The router has the newest version of firmware. Every once in a while, wireless clients on my network become "isolated". Here's an example of what happens. I set up a new wireless printer. I can print to the printer wirelessly from my phone, PC's, etc. all fine after setup. I'm thinking everything is cool!! Well after 2 weeks to 1 month this device will become "isolated" so I cannot print to it; it has an IP address, it can ping its gateway, but i cannot ping it from other devices on the same subnet. I know it's not the printer because if i unplug my E2000 and plug it back in, it works fine.
Another example. I have two windows 7 PC's that are on the same home group and i can share files between them. Sometimes it works and other times it doesnt. I can ping my gateway but they cannot ping each other. I would troubleshoot the issue like crazy from the host end, but the second i unplug my E2000 and plug it back in, BINGO they can talk. Something is wrong with how these routers function with hosts in inter-subnet communications.

Do I have to manually turn their band off when I want it off? And can I even have both bands in use at the same time?
I looked at my Cisco online info by access the IP address. I see the Access Restrictions tab. Can I even set usage by specific computer? If so how do I do that?

Jul 27, 2012Just installed linksys wrt320n. Desktop and one laptop (wireless) connect. Both windows 7. A second laptop (Vista) errors out with message "the selected data rate is not correct". This laptop sees the router (since I see the router name and it validates the passphrase) but I cannot ping the router. I saw two messages on this site suggesting to enable WMM and use security WPA2. I have verified that both of these are so set.

The Thompson does the DHCP and routing. It is the gateway through the internet, IP 192.168.2.254 (mask 255.255.255.0).I can't replace the thompson since it is delivered by my provider. SSID = BertB I want to achieve that all the compuers / laptops / phone and printer are in one network and can communicate with each other So the only possibility, as far as I can see, is to set up the Linksys as a bridge.
I have to do the following at the Linksys but have some questions as mentioned below:
SSID = BertB (the same)
channel = different from the channel used by Thompson
DHCP = off
IP = fixed (192.168.2.253)
gateway = 192.168.2.254

how the thompson and the Linksys will build a connection with each other, or will this happen automatically through the above setup?Do I have to put the mac address of the thompson in the Linksys and/or vice versa?

Dec 14, 2009I just bought a Linksys 320N router to replace another competitors router. I am trying to connect to my VPN server from outside my network. I have the external ip to my network. I setup the new 320N router just like the old router. set dmz ip to internal ip of vpn server, set port forwarding to 1723, both, internal ip of vpn server, I have a way to test the vpn while i am inside my network. So, I can watch the VPN server log and see the request come into the server and it times out with the Linksys 320 N hooked up. If I have the old router hooked up, the vpn establishes a connection.

Try changing some advanced wireless settings on the router.Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable. Open the setup page of the router.Click on wireless tab and set the configuration view to manual. Change the wireless channel to 11. Save the settings.Go to wireless tab and click on Advanced wireless settings.Change Beacon interval to 75, RTS threshold to 2307 and fragmentation threshold to 2306. Save the settings.Try to connect to the wireless network again and see if that works.
1 - I think my computer already is connected to the router with the Ethernet cable - I mean there is an Ethernet cable attached to both my computer and my router - in slot 1 on the router
2 - the only thing I know how to access is the Linksys EasyLink Advisor. What and where is the setup page of the router?

So basically its not registering the IP address given and the wep key isn't wrong but its not approving it . Not sure what to do. I tried unplugging the router and I also did the same for the modem no luck. Signals 100% and my lap top and wii connect fine.
