Setting Up Customer Wifi In A Secure And Cheap Way

Dec 7, 2012

I run a small coffee shop and want to offer free wifi to my customers while also having a secure network for my point of sale/internal network. What is the best way to do this on a limited budget? And what is the best way to protect the secure network?

Lost Wifi Connection On Oem Cheap Mini Laptop

Jun 3, 2011

I am actually able to have fun surfing on the Net with this toy computer, provided I don't expect to watch videos or listen to music or download anything. I bought it for a few Euros in France where it is known as the "SurfOne mini PC Ref. INOS1CE"; I think it is the same as the Chinese "OEM mini laptop netbook". It has a 7" screen, a 2 MB memory and claims to run on Windows CE 6.0.My problem is that after successfully connecting via WiFi to my "Orange Livebox" modem and router for a few days, I then lost that connection and can connect now only by cable. When I turn on WiFi power, it recognizes the "Livebox", but then states that it is not receiving any signal and the connection fails. How to restore WiFi.

Setting Up Secure File Sharing

Aug 5, 2011

I have windows 7 however, the other 7 all have Macs. What is the easiest way to set up file sharing so that all 8 of us can have secure access to a hard-drive so that we may all access music, pictures, and files specifically stored to that drive only. We do not want to grant each other access to our internal drives, only a network drive. I would like this shared drive to be secure.

Cisco :: Connecting Two Switches With Optical With Cheap Solution?

Oct 7, 2011

I whish to connect the two switches shown below. The distance between them is 50m (~54 yards), one floor apart, and I would like to link them with the cheapest optical solution possible.I have been given a solution with 19inch patch panel, splitter, pigtail cords, patch cords, SC connectors, i.e., the lot.Not being an expert in networking, I feel that is an overkill solution.

Xp Wifi Connects To An Open But Not Secure Network

Jun 9, 2011

I am working on an Acer netbook One series ZG5. The issue is that it will not connect to a wireless network if any of the security authentication protocals are activative. It will connect and operate fine via the hardwired RJ45 ethiernet connection. If I set the network up on the wireless router to an open network I can connect to it just fine. I have no issues opening IE8 when connected to an unsecured network. This box did work until I was reimiaging an desktop that had issues and used a usb thumb drive to store files from the desktop to the netbook prior to wiping the desktop.

Protocols / Routing :: Secure Wifi / Public Shared Drive One Computer

Jan 6, 2012

I am trying come up with a setup that allows for a computer to simultaneously be connected to the web via a secure wireless network and to provide a shared drive via an unsecured (possibly ad hoc) wireless network.Which is to say, the computer needs to be able to use the web wirelessly via the secure network, and people need to be able to share files with it wirelessly whether or not THEY can use the secure wifi. One last requirement is that I need a this to be something that I can set up in a given location with no more configuration than required to connect to the secured wifi - if the setup requires me to mess around with the configuration of the router for the secure network itself, it won't work.

Setting Up Secure Network In A Network

Nov 13, 2011

I'm a head of computing at a senior school and currently have the following predicament. All of the computers we have are quite rightly networked with certain restrictions on them. Now I have just purchased seven machines for my departments use alone. All other computers in classrooms are for general use and have to be usable by any teacher for any subject. The machines I have purchased are so we can install whatever hardware / software I need with no restrictions. These machines don't need network file shares or printer access, the only shared service they need is the schools internet connection.Originally I had a router plugged into a printer port and created wireless network in my room which gave us this functionality - full unrestricted internet access, could download exes and visit any site. However the network admin (and I understand why) didn't like this and asked me to remove it. So now I have some nice machines with no internet access. When I asked the network admin what we could do about this while keeping his networked machines safe, he said it would be a long process as we would have to buy in an entirely new internet connection.

How To Assign Each Customer To A Vlan

Sep 3, 2012

How do you assign each customer to a vlan ? and what kit do you use at the core to roll out VLANS to each pop? We are thinking of using Juniper kit - putting customers on there own VLAN, and having a managed service like TR-069 on those VLANS.Is it do-able and what does everyone use for a TR-069 server - I've been looking on the net and havent had much joy in finding a server - or is it not as easy as I understand it to be.

Cisco Infrastructure :: 2960S Upgrading A Customer Network

Mar 9, 2013

We are upgrading a customer network and have found that users of a particular application [which is very bursty/bandwidth hungry] have experienced a marked performance drop. I see lots of output drops on the interfaces. This is only happening on 2960S-48 the rest of the users on 2960PSTL [all PoE] are not having nearly as bad a time.I have tried various QoS configs with little success. I have seen on some other blogs that the 2960S has less buffers than the rest of the family.

Removing QoS or upping the users to 1Gb cures the performance problem.

Cisco WAN :: 3750 Performing QOS Against Number Of SVI VLans On Per Customer Basis

Apr 29, 2012

I have a Cisco 3750 switch stack and am performing QOS against a number of SVI vlans on per customer basis.  I have 8 customers, each with a /29 public subnet and each with an SVI as a gateway within that /29 range.  I then have a "routable" SVI vlan for routing upstream to the internet. [code]

The service policy attached to the interfaces above is supposed to perform policing on download and upload traffic.  The service policy is attached to the Routable VLAN for download policing and the Customer VLAN for upload policing.  For example, traffic entering the routable VLAN will be policed based on traffic matching an access list to the customers IP range (download).  Traffic entering the customer VLAN will be policed based on traffic matching an access list from the customers IP range (upload). The command I am using to police is as follows - police 10485500 966080 exceed-action drop. The problem I am experiencing is traffic into the routable VLAN is being successfully policed down to the 10Mbps i have specified on a per customer basis (download).Traffic entering the customer VLAN is NOT being policed at all (upload).I am limited as to the use of the parent policy map I have specified on the interface, as I can only assign it in one direction (input).
