Dell :: Inspiron 1520 / 1390 WLAN - Unable To Connect Internet After Hibernate

Jan 1, 2008

I just got an Inspiron 1520 for Christmas. So I have only been using it a few days. The first day I set up the internet connection I had no problem but now when my computer goes into sleep mode or hibernate mode I lose internet connection and it won't reconnect. It will seach for a network, then say that I have limited access or the network is unidentified.  I have to either disconnect from the network and reconnect and sometimes I even have to restart the laptop to get the connection back. I have the Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN mini card.

Dell :: Inspiron 1520 - 1390 WLAN Card Wireless Network Controller Stopped Working And Closed

Feb 6, 2010

I regularly get this message (but not everytime) when I start up Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit.

"Dell Wireless WLAN Card Wireless Network Controller stopped working and was closed.a problem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available."

Then I get this following message:"Solution Found: Address a problem with your WLAN card.Your WLAN card has stopped working properly. This is a network adapter that allows your computer to connect to a wireless network. To find out if an updated version of your WLAN card is available, contact your device or computer manufacturer."The strange thing is even though I get this message I am still able to connect to the internet via a wireless network. So there is no problem as such it is just annoying to keep getting this message when Windows starts up.I have checked on the DELL Support website and I do have the most up-to-date driver already (Or I think I do).

The message refers to my:

Dell :: Inspiron 1520 Wlan Card Not Enabled

Mar 19, 2012

I recently received the blue screen of death on my labtop so I used the system restore cd and wiped the entire hard drive clean. Afterwards I knew to extract the drivers from the drivers and utilities cd. I extraced the wlan card since this is what has been controlling my wireless at school and everywhere else. The little tower icon doesn't appear in my task box on the bottom of the screen nor is it anywhere where I can enable it. The only place I see the driver is in the add/remove folder in the control panel. Furthermore the blue light doesn't appear when I flip the switch to the on position.

Dell :: Inspiron 6400 - 1390 WLAN Mini-card Malfunction?

Nov 7, 2008

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop running and with a Dell 1390 WLAN mini-card installed and a Broadcom 44/10x100 integrated controller.

Unfortunately I've never been able to get this laptop to function with my wireless Internet.

Everything's working out nicely, and the computer connects to the network smoothly. After 5-10 minutes of full and unproblematic Internet connection the computer crashes the wireless network i.e. the Inspiron and all other computeres connected to the network is disconnected and my wireless network no longer shows up on the list of available networks.

The network works perfectly with every other computer I've used with it.

I've installed the newest drivers for both the 1390 and the integrated controller from this site. And my Vista is of course also fully up to date.

I've also tried turning the antennae settings to "aux" - Alas, to no avail.

Dell :: Inspiron 1720 / 1390 WLAN Mini-card - Wireless Drops And Can't Find Network Again

Oct 28, 2007

I have new Inspiron 1720 running Vista with the Dell wireless 1390 WLAN mini-card.  I will be connected to the wireless network just fine, but it will then disconnect.  My problem is I cannot re-connect to it without having to do a total restart.  I go to the place to refresh the list, and it finds nothing.  I ask it to repair the network, and it can't becasue it cannot find a network.   I have at least 4 other networks in the area that I can normally see, and none appear when I hit the refresh button.  But I totally restart the system, and everything works fine again (until it drops again).

Dell 1390 WLAN Mini-Card / Can't Connect To DHCP And Port Forwarding Not Working

Dec 22, 2011

The first is I have a laptop running XP with a Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card built in to it. But for some reason when I'm using that wireless connector my computer won't connect to my router and give me a 192.168.0.x address, it gives me a regular IP address. I can surf the net and everything but I can't access files on other computers. But from it it'll allow me to connect to the router admin fine.Whenever I put the mac address in to my DHCP setting on my router it comes up * RESERVED INACTIVE * and never gives my laptop a local ip address. The other problem is on my computer I've tried to set up port forwarding but it won't open the ports. My router is a Motorola SBG6580 provided by my cable company. This particular computer is connected by Ethernet and not Wifi if that makes a difference.

Dell Inspiron 1520 Suddenly Will Not Connect To Access Point / Wireless Router / DSL

Dec 15, 2012

Dell Inspiron 1520 Windows XP SP 3?My Dell suddenly will not connect to access point / wireless router / DSL. Other computer in house connects fine. Computer is auto-updated by Windows, McAfee, Secunia, and frequently checked with System Mechanic, McAfee, Lavasoft, MalwareBytes. One of the auto updates may have been interrrupted.Says Wireless adapter "not present"...Does not recognize wireless in the area. Try to "repair" adapter, but message says adapter not present.I then use System Restore to 4 day earlier date and laptop connects immediately. I see a new symbol "Local Area connection on Actiontec m1000 has been added in the Network Connection window, and the Wireless Network Connection says it is connected to the correct network that has worked fine for several years.I have several Windows updates for the Malware Tool that install immediately if I reboot, but then I cannot connect to the network and have to use System Restore (which is taking longer and longer to restore...appx 1.5 hrs now).

Dell :: Studio 1737 / 1397 WLAN - MS Virtual Wi-Fi Miniport Adapter Dead After Hibernate

Oct 22, 2011

I have a Dell Studio Laptop 1737 with Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN mini-card and Windows 7 home premium 64 bit. Some days ago, I bought a HP WiFi mouse (model LQ083AA). This mouse connects via WiFi and you need no USB-port for a transmitter. Very practical - if it would work probably.First I installed the SW delivered with the mouse. During this installation, also the "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" was installed. The mouse connects via this adapter. And everything worked fine. The mouse was found, a connection was established and the mouse worked like a charm. Until I went to sleep. As usually, I hibernated the notebook. And after waking up the notebook from hibernate, the mouse did not work anymore. I found out it is because the "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" does not wake up correctly. After a reboot, everything works again. And if I use the HP software to reestablish the connection, I receive the error "SoftAP is not available".

I tried several things:I un-installed the "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" in the device manager and checked for new HW to install it again. But after it was installed again, it still did not work.In the device manager, I disabled "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" and enabled it again - but it stayed disabled.I updated the driver.I changed energy management, allowed the computer to switch of power of the adapter resp. disallowed that.Nothing I did worked. After hibernate, the "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" is "dead". Only a reboot works. The WiFi mouse is such a great Idea, but the "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" is such a mess.

Dell :: D820 - 1390 WLAN Mini Card Not Working

Feb 2, 2012

I recently re-installed the driver for the 1390 WLAN Mini Card after not having wireless for a few years, and have a few problems.  In the Windows XP Home Network Connections folder, the  Wireless Network Connection Icon shows, "Acquiring Network Address", but never gets past that.  I ran a diagnostic in the "Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility" and the card passed all the tests, even though with the card switch in the on position the LED doesn't light (??)

When I right click on the Wireless Network Connection Icon and choose, "Status", in the "General" tab I can see that the card is sending out packets, but none are being received.  In the "Support" tab under "connection status"  the following appears:  "Address Type":  Invalid IP Address, "IP Address":, "Subnet Mask":, "Default Gateway": (nothing listed).

Background:  I have a Desktop (no brand) and the Dell D820 connected with a Westell Modem and a D-Link WBR-1310 Router.  Both computers work great connected to the Router with a cable.  Both computers are running Windows XP Home.

The only thing I can think of (and I'm remembering this from 2007 when I purchased the Laptop and had a wireless set up for a short while), is that the Modem and Router were bridged, which is not the case now.  Do they need to be bridged for the wireless connection to work?  Is it not necessary anymore and something called "Double Netting" or something like that is used...

Dell :: Inspiron 15R N5110 / Unable To Connect To The Internet

Jul 12, 2012

I have a Dell Inspiron 15R N5110, using a TrendNet Wireless Adapter, and using SkyWeb Internet Service. My laptop is a little over a year old.On April 30, 2012, I had to have my hard drive and motherboard replaced by Dell due to some issues. It was replaced, but directly afterwards, I couldn't connect to my wireless internet when I was more than five feet away. I have contacted Dell several times about this and each time they give me the same answer:

Reset/Uninstall the current connection, reconnect to the connection, and allow it to connect.

Each time, it wouldn't work. Finally, after calling for the seventh or eighth time, I was told that perhaps my wireless card was bad (which I had suggested before, but the Dell employees told me that wasn't possible). So a Dell Dispatcher was sent to my house, my dispatch number being <Admin Note:dispatch number removed per privacy policy~RK> and my technician was Will. He replaced my WiFi card, ran an EPSA diagnostics test, to which all tests passed, and still couldn't get my Internet to connect. We were less than twenty feet away. He tried to suggest that perhaps it was because the wall was decreasing the signal, but that is not possible since my sister (who owns a Dell laptop herself) can connect just fine from anywhere in our home. He called Dell himself, who was told that I (the customer) should contact tech support.

I contacted Dell support and was told to contact the wireless division, who has told me to the same thing as stated above (reset, re-install, connect). I was  told to turn off the power saving feature under my wireless networks in device manager. That seemed to do the trick for a few hours. Then, it went back to cutting in and out. I can't go more than five feet from my wifi adapter anymore when I used to be able to go outside with it. My sister (as mentioned before) tested this a few days ago. I have installed numerous drivers, and I'm not even sure whether I need them or if they're even working.

find a Driver for the NIC for windows 8 64 bit Pro. I have a Dell Latitude E6410 and the driver from Microsoft worked for the most part but I was having issues connecting to my Windows phone 8 device (Nokia 920). First I though it was my phone but when I tried other devices like my Surface I could connect with no problem. I am also running Windows 7 32 bit, when I boot up that OS I had no issues connecting to my phone. I also had issues with stable connections to my 5Ghz Wi-Fi access point. Well if any of these symptoms sound like something that you been going through then check this driver out. I used the 43224AGN 802.11 a/b/g/n 2x2 driver and now everything seems to work.

Dell :: Unable To Connect Inspiron Mini 10V Wireless N Network To Internet

Nov 20, 2009

I am having problems connecting to the internet. I've tried changing my security from WPA to WEP and back again. I've searched these forums for a solution and nothing has worked. I've changed my antenna output to Aux from Auto as one thread suggested, but no luck.

For a time, I could connect to my wireless BT Home Hub 2, but the range was pathetic (about 4 metres). I've tried connecting to my partners home wireless connection, and again, same problem. Now the connection is virtually nothing. If I am lucky enough to get a connection then it will be poor and usually fail within 2 minutes.

I've had my Dell Inspiron Mini 10v for nearly 3 months now. I wish I was brave enough to return it when I had the chance.People have commented that this could be a known issue. I don't know what the problem is. I've spoken to IT bods my office and nobody seems to know.

Dell :: Inspiron 9400 With 1390 Wireless Incompatibility With WPA-PSK

Dec 1, 2008

I have an Inspiron 9400 with a Dell 1390 wireless adapter.  My wireless connection usually works fine but I noticed that I was having trouble getting a wireless connection working at my parents' and in-laws' houses.  I just ignored the problem for a while but I recently decided to figure out what was causing it.  Long story short, any time a router uses WPA-PSK (I think this is also called WPA-TPIK) encryption then my wireless is very, very slow -- unusably slow.  If there is no encryption or any other encryption (WPA2, WPA-EAS, WEP, any enterprise variation) then it works fine -- I tested all these with my own router (which normally is on WPA2).  Also, many other laptops were able to get connected to both my parents and in-laws routers so the problem clearly lies with my laptop.

My computer is out of warranty so without paying $50 I can't get Dell customer service to: 1) confirm if this a known problem 2) let me know if there is an easy fix or 3) that myadapter is bad in a specific way.  I've tried searching these forums but I haven't had much luck turning up an exact duplicate of my problem.  I've updated to the latest drivers for my adapter.

Dell :: 1520 Inspiron Keeps Losing Network Connection

Oct 12, 2012

I have an Inspiron 1520 which, approximately once per day, is losing the network connection. Basically I can be right in the middle of something then all of a sudden anything internet related (eg browser, email, skype, other software) stops working, and then a few seconds later the little globe disappears from my network icon at the bottom of my screen.

The only way to get my connection back is to reboot my computer. I've tried the "repair connection" tool, but that doesn't work. I've tried waiting, but that is futile (and impractical)

This happens whether I am directly attached to the router via cable, or I am going through wireless.

Other devices are unaffected at the time. It is only my computer that loses the connection. The two phones, two other laptops, desktop and tablet all remain connected. (Hmmm - I seem to have far too many devices!)

Do I have a failing part? Or is this maybe a software issue? I'm thinking perhaps it is software because after a reboot everything returns to normal and the problem tends to go away for 24 hours or so.

Dell :: Inspiron 1520 Cannot Authenticate Network Address

May 5, 2013

My grandma has a Dell Inspiron 1520 running WinXP and has a Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card. The other day I reformatted her computer for her to clean things up and since then I have been unable to connect to the internet. Her computer will recognize the wireless network and connect to it but after a few minutes of trying to authenticate network address it will pop up a little window that says "limited or no connectivity." I've read countless forums on the internet using my computer and have come to the realization that it's an invalid ip address. In one post I read someone provided an ip address, subnet mask, default gateway, and a preferred DNS server code that I typed in which then showed that I was connected with wifi but still says authenticating on the WLAN card.
