Using a usb wireless adapter will work on a laptop with wifi?
At my wits end on my dell n4010. Download speeds tested with speedtest.net are 1/3 (5mbs vs 15mbs) that achieved on an older dell with xp, a blackberry playbook and a macbook. N4010 has windows 7 and all drivers have been updated.
I see some suspect a bad antenna within the n4010 might be the issue.
I have the Inspiron N4010 and I recently had my LCD screen replaced everything seems to be working awesome...except all my drivers seem to not be working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for the device. I know I could just re-download the drivers except my internet network won't connect to wifi or router so I can not get on the internet to download the drivers!

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently reinstalled windows 7 on my dad laptop after he <ADMIN NOTE: Profanity removed as per TOU> it up beyond repair. After installing the appropriate drivers I still had no detection on my w lan adapter so I checked out the device list, and it says I'm missing drivers for two things: one is the network controller, the other is just listed as an unknown device.
I already installed every driver for the appropriate devices on the laptop, in the correct order, or as i could best manage it, but still no dice. The only network driver on the disk for my inspiron is one for an Ethernet controller.
I accidentally un-installed mine so I can no longer get wireless internet. How can I get it back on my computer? It's a Dell Inspiron N4010 with windows 7 64-bit

1. I've upgraded by bios to version A13
2. I've checked in the bios advanced tap to ensure the wireless was enabled, it is
3. Device manger says the drivers are up to date and the device is working properly, driver version 5.60.48.35
4. System info says the wireless adapter is disabled
5. wireless key F2 has no impact on the status
I am really enjoying my Dell, but I have one issue. The wireless card on the N4010 shuts itself off for no reason. Sometimes the Fn+F2 key will turn the connection back on, but sometimes I have to Fn+F2 and disabling and re-abling the wireless connection to re-establish the network connection.Is there a setting that I need to adjust or a new driver???
View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter some research, I noticed I'm having the same problem with my Inspiron N4010's wireless card as mentioned in this post. I purchased this laptop refurbished from the Dell Outlet store over a year ago.
Yes, I have tried re-installing the drivers, the BIOS is updated, and no I am not pressing that key when the wireless card randomly disables. Normally it will re-enable after a few minutes or if I keep pressing that key it may re-enable. Sometimes it will take a restart for it to re-enable.
This is a completely random problem too. I am unable to reproduce the problem.
I am just about ready to replace the card and see if that works (the laptop is out of warranty and I'm comfortable inside of a laptop so that is not an issue).
Iam using dell inspiron n4010.....wireless card not listed in my device manager....cant find the driver at dell web sites.....Driver listed is not compatible with ma laptop...

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have new Inspiron 1720 running Vista with the Dell wireless 1390 WLAN mini-card. I will be connected to the wireless network just fine, but it will then disconnect. My problem is I cannot re-connect to it without having to do a total restart. I go to the place to refresh the list, and it finds nothing. I ask it to repair the network, and it can't becasue it cannot find a network. I have at least 4 other networks in the area that I can normally see, and none appear when I hit the refresh button. But I totally restart the system, and everything works fine again (until it drops again).

Fer last few days my wired connection was not working and i got all cable checked and replaced, but could not solve the problem. Then i found that in device manager, network adapters, its not showing and wired adapter. Only wi-fi and blue tooth adapters are there. View 4 Replies View RelatedI just got a our internet going through our phone modem instead of a separate modem, a new router, and some new rewiring because lighting hit near my house and blew out everything, but now on the computer I built my internet connection drops really low randomly and nothing loads. It happens at random times and for a random periods of time. I ran malwarebytes and super antispyware and nothing showed up. I connect wirelessly with a asus usb adapter.I also tried a different usb adapter that I just bought and no change, and I tried changing channels on the router.Also we have three other laptops in the house and none of them are having problems. It shows me connected with five bars and good signal it just drops to almost nothing speeds.

I am having Inspiron N4010 for almost an year now. I have had many troubles with this but never with internet connectivity. Last week I saw myself not being able to be connected to internet through wireless or wired network while everybody else was connected and surfing. I just thought it to be a small problem and the problem seemed resolved that very day itself on its own.
But today this computer has simply failed to get connected. it does get connected, open a page or two and then again refuses to connect. On the problem diagnoses from network sharing center, it was showing that the websites are not responding, then it started showing that DNS server was not responding while all my setting are correctly configured. I pinged gateway and it responds but on pinging some website there is no response at all. It s a problem with my laptop only as everybody else are using internet very well. I am using internet through my WiFi enabled cell phone using the same connection and router that i use for my laptop. I need an urgent solutions as I have to meet some deadlines regarding assignments.
My Belkin F7D4301 Router has the fastest wireless speed of maybe 2MBps but wired with a cat5e cable to my asus laptop of almost 7MBps. I have a one smart TV, one blue ray, one roku, and a nexus 7 using the 2.4 channel.
My Wireless 2.4 settings are channel 11, Extension channel 7, Wireless mode N (have tried with just g and b, g, and n modes), Bandwidth 20/40, Protected mode on, QOS off.
I've talked to Belkin tech support, they are the ones who had me set up my 2.4 channel this way but my wireless speeds stay just under 2MBps, they just want to keep sending me the same model Router because they think each of the new ones they send me is defective.
Am I doing something wrong or is 2MBps the best wireless speed I'm going to get?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI would be surfing the internet for about 30 minutes, then all of a sudden the wireless connection just stops. The wireless icon says that I'm connected with an 'excellent' connection, but I can't browse any webpages and nothing loads.
After about another 30 minutes of no connection, the wireless starts again and everything is fine. I tried updating the driver, but it says that it's already up to date. I also did a diagnostics, and I get this message: "Dell Wireless 1490 Dual Band WLAN Mini Card (Failed)".
I am able to connect to my home network with a wireless connection, and the signal is strong at first, but then immediately drops as soon as I move the laptop more than a few feet from the router and then can't connect at all. I have not had this issue with two other laptops with the same settings. The adapter has been uninstalled, driver updated, tried different router and adapter settings, etc. with no luck. Is it possible there is a problem with the wireless antenna?

My new computer was delivered December 21, 2012. Imagine my surprise that I can't connect to my wireless connection unless I am less than 10 feet away from the AT& T wireless router. There are 3 computers 1 floor up and 30 feet away that can connect, so I know it isn't that the signal isn't strong enough. My Inspiron 9300 that I have had since 2005 can connect and I am using it right now. Here's my specifics.

The new computer will hook up when extremely close to the router but it does lose the signal occasionally even though I am only 10 feet away.
I have 3 or 4 devices connected via a wireless connection, 2 of which are in the same room. Roughly a week ago, my desktop (Vista OS) started to suffer from severely reduced download speeds (5-30kb/s), while my laptop (also Vista OS) which is on the same wireless network continues to run at normal speeds (500kb/s-1mb/s).
I have tried a system restore, scanning for viruses, updating/disabling antivirus and firewalls, connecting directly to LAN, changed wireless interface speed from g to b to mixed, changed wireless channels from 1-6-11, nothing seems to work.
I have a Thomson TG782T router with a D-Link wireless card (which is rather old).
I recently moved to a new apartment to be closer to work and this apartment complex is only covered by what I was told is a wireless hotspot.Basically, a wireless devices connects to the SSID, logs in, and then you're set with the most pitiful internet still available.Now I was told I could pay $70 bucks to have these people (Onlyinternet.net by the way) install a device that would allow me to connect my desktop to the internet service. Wasn't thrilled about that. Its $40 a month, for a 1Mb connection so that wasn't going to happen anyway.Looked up internet connection sharing and had setup my laptop to use it with my desktop.My connection on my laptop has always had a very low signal; between one and two bars no matter where I'm at in my apartment. If I go outside it'll get about 4 bars but that is about it. The actual speeds listed on the Wireless Network Connection Status go from 1Mbps, 2Mpbs, 5.5Mpbs and 11Mbps. Never higher.Today I went and picked up a NETGEAR N300 wireless router. My hope was that the router might be able to pick up the wireless connection and I could just connect through my router instead of having to use my laptop. Apparently, this is not the case.I have to use my laptop act as a modem and have it plugged into the Internet port of the router and then my desktop connected to one of the LAN ports on the router. Is this setup better then using the internet connection sharing deal? Is there any other way of increasing my signal strength and network speeds?

I end up having to reboot my computer because my modem looks fine and even if I reboot it, it does not fix the problem. Repairing the connection does not work either.I have a Dell XPS 720 H2C. The computer came out in 2007, costed like 6 grand lol. I'm happy with it aside form this problem though. It sucks cause they quickly stopped making the computer so tech support on it is tough to come by. I have Cox Communications and when I run speedtest.net I get 140/30. I'm hoping they aren't disconnecting people that reach a certain download speed.Anyway I'm fairly positive it is an issue with my computer or Windows Vista. I know I should upgrade to Windows 7 and I just might if it turns out to be the culprit. I just don't want to do that unless I absolutely have to. So ya, first off when using utorrent my internet will crash if I have a lot of different torrents open and downloading at the same time. It will also crash if I have one torrent active and that torrent goes above 2-2.5 mbs download speed.Also when downloading from a fast filelocker my internet will crash. The only filelocker that will crash my internet without me browsing at the same time is a filelocker called Gamerfront. The speeds are around 2mbs. I will also crash sometimes though if I'm downloading and browsing at the same time. My downloading speeds could be well below 2mbs but if I am watching youtube, streaming, or just browsing the internet sometimes the internet will crash.
That is the main problem, but sometimes, rarely I'll disconnect just from watching a youtube video. That's happened maybe 3 or 4 times. Anyway that is the summary of my issue. Again only a computer reboot will fix my connection. When I get disconnected the modem does not change at all and is still working perfectly. The modem is relatively brand new as well. I haven't tried much to fix it because I just have no idea what I could do. Device manager looks fine, no exclamation points. I know when most people have this problem it's because of a router or it's the modem but I don't use a router and my modem seems to be totally fine. [code]

Issue: Whenever I close my lid, my wireless connectivity drops by around 80+%. When using speedtest.net, I normarlly download at 5 megabits/s and upload at 1, but with my lid closed, I download at less then 0.4 and upload surprisingly at 0.8. My downloads and torrents basically grind to a halt, multiplayer gaming becomes difficult and websites/youtube/videos take much longer to load. I can check all these figures as I'm using an external monitor.I have tried a lot of things to improve connectivity including setting everything to high performance, disabling power saving modes, setting roaming to aggressive/high and updating drivers.
