Ethernet Signal From Wireless Router?

Aug 18, 2011

I have an older desktop computer that I am trying to set up in my detached garage. It is only ethernet compatable. I have a wireless network in my house that my laptop is wirelessly connected to. I purchased a Linksys WET11 v2 wireless bridge. It is my understanding that this bridge will take the wireless signal and convert it to wired, but it is not working. When the bridge is connected to the old desktop, my LAN is active but I can't connect to the internet.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT120N - Extend Signal Through Ethernet Cable?

Wireless To Ethernet Signal Conversion?

Jul 16, 2012

I need to get a connection through a 3 storie structure.

On each floor, I have a cluster of servers set up. Conventionally, I would thread cat6 cables through the building but due to various reasons I cannot do that.

On the ground floor there are 2 ground lines which project a wireless signal.

I'm wondering, is there some way I can convert the wireless signal into an ethernet line? Perhaps through some kind of interfaced adapter. I've thought of buying a throwaway laptop and bridging the connections manually but I'd prefer to avoid that option if there are feasiable alternatives.

Splitting Ethernet Signal To Two Computers?

Jan 27, 2013

I'm trying to connect a second desktop to my internet connection. My current setup has my primary desktop using a wireless card and getting internet from the wireless router. Then I bridged the connection from my desktop to my xbox. Everything worked perfectly.

However, I recently got a second desktop(running lubuntu if it matters) and I'm trying to get it connected so that I can use Synergy and share a mouse with it. I found an old router laying around the house and was hoping I could use it to share the bridged connection to my xbox with the second desktop. Like this:

I couldn't get that to work though. The second desktop knew it was connected, but it couldn't connect to the internet. It would also throw off my primary desktop and it would try to connect to the old router.

I also tried to set it up like this:

Using an ethernet plug in the wall that normally just went to the TV and trying to split it there. The TV still worked, but the second desktop didn't.

How I can get this all working. I'd like to do it without having to order a wireless card/usb and just use what I have.

Cabling / Cards :: Slingbox PRO Not Receiving Ethernet Signal

Oct 8, 2011

They have a main Verizon router in their bedroom, which is hard wired to a wireless router in the TV room. The have another cable router (not wireless) and it can receive a signal when you plug an Ethernet cable from output #1 on the wireless router to Internet input on the cable router (the Internet light lights up, meaning it's receiving the signal). Also the wireless router light for output #1 lights up (meaning it's outputting a signal correctly). But, when I plug the same cord into the Slingbox PRO, the network light, on the Slingbox PRO, doesn't light up, nor does the #1 light on the wireless router. The Slingbox is out of warranty.

I've removed the DES 105 from the circuit and videos play fine. Should I dump to DES-105 for another Gigabit switch? Feb 23, 2013

I am trying to use a pre-existing DSL modem-router config in a club house my group uses for monthly meetings. Its a separate modem and router (Linksys or Netgear), forget modem brand. I'm unable to communicate with the owners of the equipment. If I connect to the router directly with a cat5 patch cord I can get on the internet just fine, but do not see a wireless signal from the router. I am also unable to connect with from my laptop. I get the same message as if I'd entered a random nonsense url. I know you can go into your router and disable wireless but first you have to talk to it via .

So I got clever and piggybacked another known good router into one of the Ethernet ports on the 1st router, and again got on the internet with a direct cat5 connection. But this time, I DO SEE the wireless signal from my 2nd router and can connect to it from the laptop, but still no internet! it's like internet access is blocked in the 1st router.

Wireless Router Is Not Putting Out A Signal?

Nov 7, 2011

I have a Dell Wireless Router, yes I know terrible lmao but was free a laptop I bought my sister. Anyways, it does not seem to be putting out a wireless signal. However if hook an ethernet cord from the modem, to my parents pc, eliminating the router completely, the internet works, this is how the set up usually is. I have my pc upstairs with a wireless card and have never had problems until now. When I hook up the wireless router, the internet light, lights up etc. But on the main computer that is hardwired, loses internet. It just has "Limited Connectivity".I tried resetting, powering off, restarting. I tried to set up a new wireless network and the computer cannot find any wireless devices. My computer upstairs cannot find a wireless network either. We also have a wireless "Roku" box which is netflix, this works off wi-fi, but this also cannot get a wireless connection.

Ive tried typing in the routers ip just guession that is the, I have tried a bunch of others but cannot get into my routers settings. I am trying to get into those router settings thru my browser, Im trying to figure out the ip. However if I hook my router up I lose internet so i am un-able to do that.I build PC's and service them, but networking is where my expertise end.

WNR1000V3 Router - Wireless Signal Dropping?

Jan 12, 2012

I have a Dell Studio 1745 Laptop and its only a few years old, I recently upgraded my router to be wireless a year or so ago and have had a few d/c issues here and there but mostly has not been a problem.Recently I have had tons of d/c issues while playing warcraft or browsing the internet in general, anything really. So I made the mistake of recently updating my WNR1000V3 router's firmware from my laptop's wireless connection. After I did this I saw all sorts of warnings (none built into the firmware itself, sigh) that this was a big no no.

Since then my d/c issues have been horrible but what it does now is my connection will be completely normal then all of a sudden my wireless access point will switch to 'No Internet Access' and it will drop my internet. The only way I can get it back is to go into the other room and reset the router by either unplugging it, or pressing the reset button on the back, once it reboots and everything, my laptop sees the connection again, and it has Internet Access fine.Soo I went and made the problem much worse, the lame part of the situation is before I had this firmware issue I was getting this problem anyways.

I decided if I could flash a older version of firmware to the router using my desktop that is wired to the router I could then reupdate it to the current version,I found a old firmware version on and went to upload it through the router login for my router, it then said the file format was unrecognizable or not the right one (it was a .img file). I even tried to mount the file and explore it, no go. I found another firmware version older than that and attempted to flash that to the router and it began to update, then gave me a warning that this firmware was older than my current, I click yes and my internet drops and the update never happens.

So if I did screw the modem up this way I have no idea how to fix it now I have reset it to factory settings but this doesn't affect the firmware version. I suspect the firmware has something to do with the recent problems because I have seen the 'Congratulations, You have setup your router and are connected to the internet" like 20 times these past 48 hrs.I downloaded Xirrus wifi inspector and have it running now.I tried the ip flush and release stuff, and a bunch of tricks ive seen on other forums. My system is Windows 7 with a Intel wi-fi link 5100 AGN network adapter. I have tried rolling back that network driver and messing with the advanced and tcp/ip settings.

Linksys Wrt54g Router - Inconsistent Wireless Signal?

Jun 6, 2012

I have a linksys wrt54g wireless router and a few weeks ago my wireless connection started to become inconsistent, it would randomly drop service or be very slow, and now it has become very inconsistent and slow, all the while the wireless signal would be 4-5 bars.On my windows 7 desktop, often times the yellow triangle with the exclamation mark pops up over the signal strength indicator when its at 4-5 bars.I've tried changing to 2 different routers and its the same, and the problem is persistent for all computers in the house.I've connected directly via ethernet to the modem and router and service was fine. There are a few wireless networks in the area, some with quite strong signals, but I downloaded the xirrus wifi inspector and it says I'm not sharing a channel (channel 1) and though I'm ~15ft from the router, the signal is ~65dbm, which seems low and is almost equivalent to neighbor's wireless strength.

Netflix Streaming - Low Wireless Router Signal Strength?

Mar 31, 2012

I have a wireless network in my home, mainly for internet access via any of the 3 or 4 machines we may be using. Normally, there's not a problem with normal surfing, email checking, youtube, etc.My wireless router is a Linksys WRT300N, and the wireless adapter card in my desktop is a D-Link AirPlus G DWL-G510 Wireless PCI Adapter. In my previous home, the router was in the very same room as my desktop, and had no problems to speak of with this setup streaming Netflix. Now, however, I'm set up in an older home, and the router is removed from my desktop by a few walls and tight rooms. I've noticed that my network status icon on the bottom right of my desktop seems to always show "Signal Strength: Very Low".I like to use my desktop sometimes to stream Netflix. My Netflix streaming sometimes goes OK, but typically it just freezes and shows the Loading bar, and sometimes doesn't really start back. It is so bad sometimes, that I am not willing to wait it out, because I know from this experience that even if it starts back up, it will just freeze again. The video is not downloading and caching fast enough.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 - Signal Is Much Weaker?

Dec 30, 2009

Just got the E4200 and it seemed great at first.  Connected at 450mbps at close range (maybe 6ft away) and got 223mbps transfer. It seems that recently my signal is much weaker.  I'm around 6-8ft away from the router and I'm getting between 270-360mbps, which to me is poor given the short range.
InSSIDer says the RSSI is -50, while my other wireless N router (dual band) is -35 and is in the exact same location. I'm using the 5ghz radio only, and it is set to N, and I'm using channels 44 and 48.  I checked the hidden advanced wireless page and transmit power is already set to high.
My laptop has an Intel 6300 wireless card.I'm using the current firmware 1.0.02. I've noticed that the speed of the router randomly seems to drop off too (just as I type this, the link rate has gone back up to 450mbps... typical).  Is the router throttling when it gets hot or something? So I just want to find out if others are experiencing similar rates at the same kind of distance.  Seriously, how can you advertise something as 450mbps when you can't even get that link rate at a distance as short as 6ft?
I can't see any thing I can do to increase the link speed (back down to 270mbps now), short of a firmware update to increase the power and use higher channels.  I hear the higher channels are much better, so who do I have to write to, to plead for new firmware? This is a great product, but it's totally ruined by stupid internal antennas and a weak transmit power. Maybe if we make a noise about the not so maximum performance, they might address it.
