Home Network Refuses To Connect PCs?

Jul 31, 2011

I have a Windows Vista Service Pack 2, Windows 7 Service Pack 1, and a Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 that I am attempting to connect to each other on my home network. Their WorkGroup is the same name, and on the Vista, and 7, the locations are a home network. Sometimes I see one computer on the other, but then if clicked, it wont connect and gives me a Cannot connect or computername-PC not found. That, or my computers will not show up on one another. I also have McAfee Total Protection with a Home Network option to 'Trust' each PC to be able to connect them in a network within McAfee and scan each one for virus protection. That will not work either. It did once, but not now. All McAfee versions are up to date yet I see on some devices when they sometimes show up on McAfee that the program on the other computer is an older version. Then, when I do get the option to send a request to 'Trust' another PC, I'll enter a password to be re-entered in the other computer, then it'll instruct me to enter it into that other computer but then it fails before I can do so. It'll say the other computer is not available.

Computer Refuses To Connect To Home Wifi

Sep 13, 2012

I am having troubles connecting my laptop to my wireless router. Currently, I am hardwired to my internet (totally defeating the purpose of having a laptop...). My computer sees the network, but when I try to connect it, it says "UNABLE TO CONNECT", yet I can connect to other networks... All the other computers in the house along with game consoles connected just fine once I put in our password

Linksys WRT300N - Desktop Won't Connect To Network / Refuses To Authenticate

May 21, 2012

I just replaced my router (Linksys WRT300N) that decided to take a dirt nap. I hooked up my son's Netgear router that he used to use for gaming, and got every wireless device in the house going pretty quickly - every one, that is, except my desktop PC (Windows XP Pro SP2). It detects my home network, but when I enter the network key (passphrase), it chugs along for a minute or so and quits, refusing to authenticate, acquire the IP, and finish connecting. That wasn't a problem before with my previous router. The desktop has a D-Link AirPlus G DWL-G510 PCI Adapter card. What's the likelihood that my card went bad at the same time as my router? The card is 5-6 years old I think.

Security / Firewalls :: Steam Refuses To Connect Anymore?

Jun 22, 2012

I wanted to reinstall a game I used to play (League of legends) it gave me an HTTP error and told me to check my firewall. My firewall is fine, I don't have one from my antivirus. Also, Steam refuses to connect anymore, sayting it's has and unknown error named eroor:-137. I mailed steam support for this, and they gave me lots and lots of options, but none of them worked.basically, I can still download stuff, but for big games (i.e. League of Legends and DC Universe Online) it connects to a server to 1) download the game and 2) check for updates/patches.

all this is making me believe it has something to do with my ports, but I can't seem to log in into my residential gateway (or whatever it's called)

Home Network :: Notified When Somebody Tries To Connect On Home Wifi?

Nov 24, 2011

My Wifi network has a wpa2 password that is a random string of characters and numbers and yet last month a rogue IP Address kept popping up on my DNS list. It has to be coming from my neighbor who's bedroom is about 15 feet away from my router. So unless someone is sitting out on my front lawn to do this then it must be him.I've been looking for software that will notify me when a connection my router is attempted and kudos if it also asks my permission first would be great. There are wifi packet sniffers out there like Cain&Abel, Airsnort, that sort of thing but I am not quite savvy enough nor do I want to turn this into a complicated hobby but just need a basic warningin case something gets past my passwords again

TP-Link 300Mbps Wireless :: WR1043ND Keeps Dropping Network / Refuses Connections After Time

Mar 3, 2013

Region : Canada
Model : TL-WR1043ND
Hardware Version : V1
Firmware Version : 3.13.12 Build 120405 Rel.33996n
ISP : Bell

I'm having to reboot what is now my 2nd router every 1-2 days in order for all connections to resume working. My 2nd router was working great since Saturday afternoon, and just now I needed to reboot in order for my laptop to connect to the network. Now that it seems pretty clear the router in general isn't faulty, I suspected that the issue was IP lease related, so I was looking at DHCP settings and changed the lease time to 2880 (max setting), from 120 (default). However, this should only prolong how often i'll need to reboot the router. So, what is it that's causing my devices to disconnect or not being able to connect to the router for a prolonged period of time?

Can't Connect To Home Network

Jul 23, 2012

Well I am typing to you all from my linux box. I have a desktop that runs Windows XP SP3 and have not been able to get it to connect for months now. I use an smc2862w-g USB card to connect from it ordinarily but like I said, it hasn't connected to my home network for months. It reads and connects to my neighbors networks just fine but for some reason it is isolated to my home network. My home router/modem is an Arris model.Today while I was talking to some guys I know in IRC who work the IT field, I got it to work for all of about 10 minutes. The problem is, is that it was an intermittent sync. I noticed that when I were to change channels in my router it would follow to let's say channel 11 but the card would bounce back and forth between 11 and 10 causing intermittent sync. If I changed to channel 4 then it would bounce between that and 5. Channel 6, same thing and so on and so forth. I read somewhere that it could be a problem with conflicting chipsets between the router and card but that doesn't make much sense to me. I've been in the computer field for a few years now as a Security Specialist and tech support agent so this does not add up. [code]

Laptop Will Connect To Every Network Except Home

Sep 12, 2012

My laptop can no longer connect to my home network. It used to connect fine, but I was having problems with my graphics card as every time I went on Youtube it would crash. As a result, I sent it into ASUS (it is an ASUS K52J Series) and got the motherboard and the hard drive replaced. After this, my laptop seemed to be working great. It connected to a variety of networks, including 3 home networks, and 2 public networks. However, it cannot connect to the network in my apartment.

I know this network works and is connectable as my roommate's laptop works perfectly fine. So I know it is not a problem with my laptop since it connects to other networks, and I know it is not the network since other laptops connect to it. I've tried resetting my adapter, I've tried turning off the firewall. Also, I've tried the trouble shooting option numerous times after trying a variety of things that usually fix the connectivity, but it always says that the problem cannot be detected.

It's starting to be really frustrating, especially since I'm in university and sharing a laptop when both my roommate and I need to do work is not convenient.

Home Network :: Windows XP Cannot Connect To Secure WAP

My laptop suddenly stopped being able to conect to my home wifi router. It stays at "waiting for network to be ready" while at the back the wifi list stays at "acquiring network adress" for a couple of minutes and then resets to regular disconnected status. All my other wireless gadgets at home can connect with no problem whatsoever.Wifi strength is great and, when disabling security, the laptop connects without a hitch and very quickly. I tried all possible security combinations the router can give me, always using a second wifi device to check if connection and browsing was possible.I tried everything I googled: drivers, firmwares, ipconfig reset renew, started and stopped services, to no avail.

Home Network :: How To Connect WAP54g To WRT54g

Jul 18, 2012

Guys I want to connect most of my home to a single router located in basement.I got the router from ISP and hooked it with one of those devices that transmit Ethernet via electricity and in the ground floor I hooked WRT54g to the other device (electricity transmitter) and configured WRT with the following:Disabled DHCP so it will be done by the router.

SSID: MainHomeWAN
Security: WPA Shared.
Channel: 11

On the first floor I hooked the WAP54g and configured it as wireless bridge with the same as above and entered the MAC address of WRT device. The only difference is the channel is 6.In ground floor the signal is great but on first is not because it doesn't get an IP and even if it gets one it losses is soon. So I turned WAP device and I got stale connection but very poor.

Home Network :: Connect To Application On Server?

Feb 11, 2011

How do you access an application that is in the server? Like what extra steps you gotta make? Are they software related or do I have to do some configuration on the router or switch? Heres a little example:

Assume you have a group of computer connecter to a switch, this switch is connected to a router which has the connection to your ISP. On the router, you also have connected a server farm for your network and all the apps are stored there, say MS Word, Excel and such. Now, you have your network running, every ping comes out successful, so you know you did that part right, so the next part is to get the host use the MS Word or any other app in that server. How do you do that? Is there something that need to be configured on router/switch or is it with a software on your host? If its a software, whats the name of it and how you make it work?
