Home Network :: Connect 3 Printers To A Network?

Mar 16, 2011

I have a home network and I need to connect 3 USB printers. I was searching online and I'm not sure if I needed a network switch, a USB network hub, or a multiport print server. I need all 3 PCs to be able to access any printer.

Here's what I have in mind. I'm just not sure what hardware I needed (red outline). The cheaper the better. Oh and I don't want a 24/7 PC running as a server.

Home Network :: Add Printers To Local Wireless Network Without Sharing From Computer

Mar 3, 2012

I have a home network running all Mac computers (though can run Windows VM if necessary) and a pair of USB printers. The wireless router and cable modem are in one room, but the printers are in another. I'd like to find the most practical way to add the printers to the local wireless network without sharing them from a computer. I've tried that for a while, but don't want to leave a laptop connected 24/7 just to enable wireless printing (rather defeats the purpose of a portable computer). I don't have any wired network lines in the home, and am not excited by the idea of running any cables.

Connecting Printers To A Home Network?

Jan 7, 2012

I have a cable wireless router in the ground floor lounge and have set up a home wireless network. In the upstairs study we have two desktop computers connected to the router via the wireless network. I have a laptop computer used around the house and garden which also uses the wireless network.A laser printer and an inkjet printer are both connected to one of the computers in the study via USB and are shared with all computers. This means that the computer with the printers connected must by running if anyone requires prints. Both printers have USB and Ethernet ports – but running a network cable to the router downstairs is impractical. Is there a way of connecting the printers directly to the network and leave them powered up so they can be used by any of the computers. I am hoping that there is some extra hardware that will enable me to do this perhaps via wireless.Or – would it be possible to use mains Powerline Network adaptors – with one adapter connected by Ethernet cable to the router and other adaptors connected by cable to each printer.

Home Network :: Notified When Somebody Tries To Connect On Home Wifi?

Nov 24, 2011

My Wifi network has a wpa2 password that is a random string of characters and numbers and yet last month a rogue IP Address kept popping up on my DNS list. It has to be coming from my neighbor who's bedroom is about 15 feet away from my router. So unless someone is sitting out on my front lawn to do this then it must be him.I've been looking for software that will notify me when a connection my router is attempted and kudos if it also asks my permission first would be great. There are wifi packet sniffers out there like Cain&Abel, Airsnort, that sort of thing but I am not quite savvy enough nor do I want to turn this into a complicated hobby but just need a basic warningin case something gets past my passwords again

How To Assign 2 Printers On Network With Same Name

Aug 12, 2011

I am working to find a new printer on a network. The new printer has the exact same name as another printer in the network? How do I assign a PC to default to the correct printer. It is a very active office so the trial an error thing sometimes takes a long time and also is frustrating because every time I install a new PC to the network (which is often) I run into the same problem over and over again. So how to I get the IP Address of the networked printer? How do I use the IP Address when assigning a new computer?

Home Network :: Advanced Home Network Setup (3 Subnets) And Port Forwarding?

Feb 24, 2013

I have a Time Warner Cable business class service with no static IP, with a wireless modem which is plugged to a CAT5 distribution panel. On the jacks (2 other rooms on the house) I have a Linksys E3000 and a Linksys Valet router for signal boost and gadgets usage (TV, cameras, etc). The main router (TWC) has it's own external IP which TWC assigns to me and internally distributes via DHCP the range 192.168.0.x. With that said:

- The E3000 has a 192.168.0.6 IP -- this is fixed setup on the TWC router (ubee brand) by MAC address
- The Valet has a 192.168.0.7 IP -- this is fixed setup on the TWC router (ubee brand) by MAC address
- The main router has the 192.168.0.1 as the gateway and web-interface

Whenever I connect something to the E3000, it is distributing the 192.168.1.x range and the valet 192.168.2.x range. That works perfectly for my home based business until I decided to use more stuff on the network such as a IP printer, IP cameras, etc.

- The IP cameras are connected to the E3000 due to signal strength and I have manually assigned them the 192.168.1.15 and 192.168.1.16 IPs and ports 9001 and 9002.

- The printer is connected to the E3000 and I have manually assigned the IP 192.168.1.30.

Issue 1: Port forwarding On the main router (TWC - UBEE) I have tried to setup a port forwarding by informing the Local IP as 192.168.0.6 (E3000 IP), Internal Port 0, Public Interface IP (0.0.0.0), Ext Start Port 9001, Ext End Port 9001, Protocol - Both, Enabled Yes. On the E3000 I did the same config (screen shot attached e3000.png).This is not working properly. I can't get into the camera.

Issue 2: Printer/ The printer is only accessible if I connect to the E3000 (because it is on the 192.168.1.x network)

Issue 3: How to configure all the devices on the same subnet? If I want everyone to be on the 192.168.0.x network, how to configure properly the E3000 and the Valet? I have tried to force them into the same network but it would not work properly. It would not get an IP from the UBEE router (main).

every once in awhile we have a machine that seems to just lose the ability to access network shares and networked printers. The way I have been "fixing" the issue is to join a workgroup temporarily and restart computer and rejoin the domain.

I understand this is probably not the best fix available, but I am not sure what is causing the problem and/or what a better solution to this problem is.

why this happens and how best to solve this without just rejoining the domain?

Network Printers Disappear After Logoff - Logon To Terminal Server?

Feb 8, 2012

I have an annoying problem with networked printers disconnecting/disappearing when TS users logoff. Current configuration is: SQL server (WinSvr 2K8 R2 Std) has printers installed on it (standard TCP/IP Port) and printer is shared, there are also some printers installed on the DNS server and a couple of satellite offices. Users connect to TS servers (WinSvr 2K8 R2 & WinSvr 2K3) printers are connected and work fine until they logoff, when they log on the printers are gone "sometimes some printers are still there!?" I have tried logging onto the server as domain administrator and connecting printers but they won't even stay for administrator (have had this with win7 client machines) and tried directly 'console' at the server. I have looked at the printers on the SQL server and sharing properties, it is stoping printers from coming back at login on TS Note that local (client machines) connecting to the same shared printer from the SQL server dont have the problem it's just on the TS server.

Home Network :: Need Input On Network At Home Newly Wired

Jan 14, 2012

I am a new student in networking, taking the CCNA courses, and now want to rewire my home. I currently have a cable modem and E2500 setup running my network. I want to get the modem and router out of my computer room and in the basement where the cable enters the house. I want to do this to clean up the computer room wiring a bit and to run line drops to different rooms in the house where the internet will be utilized.Currently there are two PC's, a laptop, a tablet, sometimes a phone, and an XBOX using the internet. I want to get my printer back up and running on the network but thats another story. Only one PC is currently hardwired. I would like to run two cables into the room with the PC and XBOX that are currently using wireless, at least two into the computer room for the PC and network printer, and one or two into the living room for the blue ray player and possibly an internet tv.

Can't Connect To Home Network

Jul 23, 2012

Well I am typing to you all from my linux box. I have a desktop that runs Windows XP SP3 and have not been able to get it to connect for months now. I use an smc2862w-g USB card to connect from it ordinarily but like I said, it hasn't connected to my home network for months. It reads and connects to my neighbors networks just fine but for some reason it is isolated to my home network. My home router/modem is an Arris model.Today while I was talking to some guys I know in IRC who work the IT field, I got it to work for all of about 10 minutes. The problem is, is that it was an intermittent sync. I noticed that when I were to change channels in my router it would follow to let's say channel 11 but the card would bounce back and forth between 11 and 10 causing intermittent sync. If I changed to channel 4 then it would bounce between that and 5. Channel 6, same thing and so on and so forth. I read somewhere that it could be a problem with conflicting chipsets between the router and card but that doesn't make much sense to me. I've been in the computer field for a few years now as a Security Specialist and tech support agent so this does not add up. [code]
