View 2 RepliesI have a home network running all Mac computers (though can run Windows VM if necessary) and a pair of USB printers. The wireless router and cable modem are in one room, but the printers are in another. I'd like to find the most practical way to add the printers to the local wireless network without sharing them from a computer. I've tried that for a while, but don't want to leave a laptop connected 24/7 just to enable wireless printing (rather defeats the purpose of a portable computer). I don't have any wired network lines in the home, and am not excited by the idea of running any cables.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a home network and I need to connect 3 USB printers. I was searching online and I'm not sure if I needed a network switch, a USB network hub, or a multiport print server. I need all 3 PCs to be able to access any printer.
Here's what I have in mind. I'm just not sure what hardware I needed (red outline). The cheaper the better. Oh and I don't want a 24/7 PC running as a server.
I am working to find a new printer on a network. The new printer has the exact same name as another printer in the network? How do I assign a PC to default to the correct printer. It is a very active office so the trial an error thing sometimes takes a long time and also is frustrating because every time I install a new PC to the network (which is often) I run into the same problem over and over again. So how to I get the IP Address of the networked printer? How do I use the IP Address when assigning a new computer?

There are 2 printers at the front desk that have confusing combinations of numbers and letters for names and I would like to name them something like "front desk color" or "front desk b&w". These computers are connected to a network and accessable from 10+ computers.

HP Desktop - Windows 7
Dell Inspirion 600m Laptop - Windows XP
Compaq Desktop - Windows NT
Prior to installing the new router, all computers could see each other on the network.

I am trying to find the file where I can edit what printers show when looking for network printers in Server 2008. In 2003 server is was the NTPRINT.inf, where you can edit what printers populate but in server 2008 I cannot edit this file. Can this be done in Server 2008?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a cable wireless router in the ground floor lounge and have set up a home wireless network. In the upstairs study we have two desktop computers connected to the router via the wireless network. I have a laptop computer used around the house and garden which also uses the wireless network.A laser printer and an inkjet printer are both connected to one of the computers in the study via USB and are shared with all computers. This means that the computer with the printers connected must by running if anyone requires prints. Both printers have USB and Ethernet ports – but running a network cable to the router downstairs is impractical. Is there a way of connecting the printers directly to the network and leave them powered up so they can be used by any of the computers. I am hoping that there is some extra hardware that will enable me to do this perhaps via wireless.Or – would it be possible to use mains Powerline Network adaptors – with one adapter connected by Ethernet cable to the router and other adaptors connected by cable to each printer.
View 4 Replies View Relatedevery once in awhile we have a machine that seems to just lose the ability to access network shares and networked printers. The way I have been "fixing" the issue is to join a workgroup temporarily and restart computer and rejoin the domain.
I understand this is probably not the best fix available, but I am not sure what is causing the problem and/or what a better solution to this problem is.
why this happens and how best to solve this without just rejoining the domain?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an annoying problem with networked printers disconnecting/disappearing when TS users logoff. Current configuration is: SQL server (WinSvr 2K8 R2 Std) has printers installed on it (standard TCP/IP Port) and printer is shared, there are also some printers installed on the DNS server and a couple of satellite offices. Users connect to TS servers (WinSvr 2K8 R2 & WinSvr 2K3) printers are connected and work fine until they logoff, when they log on the printers are gone "sometimes some printers are still there!?" I have tried logging onto the server as domain administrator and connecting printers but they won't even stay for administrator (have had this with win7 client machines) and tried directly 'console' at the server. I have looked at the printers on the SQL server and sharing properties, it is stoping printers from coming back at login on TS Note that local (client machines) connecting to the same shared printer from the SQL server dont have the problem it's just on the TS server.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have 4 computers (3 laptops, 1 desktop) in a shared office. We get internet access using their wireless network. All works fine. However, I need to share a printer amongst all of the computers. The printer is LAN enabled and I would normally just put all the PCs on a hub, together with the printer and share it that way. BUT my question is can we access the internet using the wireless network and the printer using a separate wired network at the same time?

Hardware Version: A4 - Firmware Version: 1.32EU
This is happening to me to multiple computers on my domain. When it happens i can only log in as a local user or if I unplug the network cable, log in and then re-connect the networkThe time on all these machines is correct within at least 1 minute but still it's throwing off this error. When reading about this problem I see many fixes that all relate to how to sych the time on the PC.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Comcast cable. I have a motorola cable modem. I run that into a Netgear 8-channel router with wireless (that's 8 physical network sockets).I have had these devices hard-connected to the router up until today and everything has been running fine:
* My Desktop (desktop running Windows 7 with Gigabyte motherboard and built-in Realtek NIC)
* T-Mobile VoIP device
* My Laptop (old Alienware running XP with generic NIC)
Today I took my old desktop motherboard from a year ago (Gigabyte motherboard, but not the same as My Desktop, built-in Realtek NIC), gutted it out, replaced the hard drive, got it running Windows 7 and set it up for my kids. Got it connected to the Internet early this morning when my machine was off and it ran fine. While it was updating, I fired up My Desktop and the router stopped working, all machines lost Internet, and I was at a loss. After some troubleshooting, it turns out that if I have My Desktop and the Kids Machine connected to the router and running at the same time, all devices on the router lose connection. I can have the Kids Machine on with the T-Mobile device and My Laptop and they all work. I can have My Desktop on with the T-Mobile device and My Laptop and they all work. But as soon as My Desktop and the Kids Machine come on together, everything gets hosed. The router is set to reserve different IP addresses by Mac Address for every machine. And I've verified that My Desktop gets its IP address correctly, and so does the Kids Machine. They are different IPs.I (usually) know just enough about networking to get a home network set up.
I want to measure the the ospf convergence time on the given network topology (assume 5 nodes - partial mesh topology).I am using quagga software as routing software on linux box. Quagga is runnign fine and network is converged, able to see all the routes.. Quagga software is logging all the osfp information includign packets, state machines, etc.I am going to disconnect a link between node a to node b. and i want to measure the convergence time of the network. What is the network convergence time?My answer is, The time taken to reflect the topology change (link down/up, network condition change) to all the routers on the topology. Some routers(close by routers to the topology change) will get converged fast, and some routers(far away from the topology change) will have the higher convergence time. we have to take the highest convergence time of the router on the topology and we can says thats the ospf network convergence time.

View 1 Replies View RelatedBasic info: SBS 2008 (64bit), XP-sp3 (32bit) workstations, gigabit switch, SEP. App is Sage Masterbuilder.Network config: Server is 1gb to switch over CAT6. All the workstations are 100mb over CAT5. SEP is set to exclude all pertinent files on both the server and workstations.Problem: The program is called MasterBuilder and does job costing and much more. In the job costing feature there is an option to "Compute" job costing. In version 16.x, when the "Compute" was performed the task was done very quickly. After an upgrade to version 17.x it is very SLOW. According to tech support, our network is at fault since it is a database function over the network.Troubleshooting done: Tech support blamed our network speed (100mb) and switch. We had a Netgear 100mb switch so we replaced it with a GB switch however the cabling will not support GB. Being a managed switch I set all the ports to 100mb except the server port. Even tried the server plugged into a 100mb port and no change. I am confident there are no speed issues on our network. All other programs perform flawlessly. ACAD, Exchange, data transfers and many other high data use programs work perfectly. I updated the network card drivers in the server as well. There are no performance or resource issues on the workstations. I monitored the network traffic at the workstations, server and switch with no issues and about 2.5% utilization during the slow "Compute" process. The switch shows no errors at all, no collisions, no dropped packets, nothing. I also disabled the SEP.
During testing and while the slow "Compute" was going on, I copied a large folder (400mb) from the server to the workstations see the impact on network utilization. As soon as I start the copy process the "Compute" process speeds up to normal and zips by as it should. As soon as I cancel the copy process the "Compute" drops right back to very slow.
I have my PC in my office with two lans,, one, the internal lan of my company with a static ip address, the other one a broadband line for connecting to internet.. If i switch on both the lans at the same time, i am able to use the broadband lan and the internal lan stops functioning,, to make it work i need to disable the lan with broadband line.. i even tried bridging the lans but that again stopped my internal lan. way to connect both the lans at the same time so that both the networks work simultaneously... and if there is any other option to function two lans on a single PC at the same time.
