Home Network :: Add Printers To Local Wireless Network Without Sharing From Computer

Mar 3, 2012

I have a home network running all Mac computers (though can run Windows VM if necessary) and a pair of USB printers. The wireless router and cable modem are in one room, but the printers are in another. I'd like to find the most practical way to add the printers to the local wireless network without sharing them from a computer. I've tried that for a while, but don't want to leave a laptop connected 24/7 just to enable wireless printing (rather defeats the purpose of a portable computer). I don't have any wired network lines in the home, and am not excited by the idea of running any cables.

Home Network :: Computer Won't Re-connect Network Drives

Mar 13, 2011

I have a question about my windows systems(XP and Vista) re-connecting to my network folders when my computers restart. I have some shared network folders on my Synology DS410. And then i mapped a network drive to use those folders. But every time i restart my computer i get the message "cannot reconncet all network drives"I have to put in my username and password everytime. I choose Remember login and password. How can i fix this so it automatically connects to these on restart?

FYI...
1 computer - Windows Vista Home Premium
1 computer - Windows XP Home
Both connected via wired LAN

My iSCSI drives connect just fine on restart. Just not my mapped network folders.

Unable To Access Network Share And Printers?

Mar 6, 2013

every once in awhile we have a machine that seems to just lose the ability to access network shares and networked printers. The way I have been "fixing" the issue is to join a workgroup temporarily and restart computer and rejoin the domain.

I understand this is probably not the best fix available, but I am not sure what is causing the problem and/or what a better solution to this problem is.

why this happens and how best to solve this without just rejoining the domain?

Home Network :: Can't Display Launched App On Host Computer

Feb 26, 2013

I am running WinXP Pro on a netbook which I have set up as a host with Real VNC. I connect well from all my Win 7 PC's. I do not want to just have remote access to that netbook. I would like to launch an application (which runs from MySQL) from the host which I can then use on the remote PC's display without that app actually launching and displaying on the host computer. At the moment, I can only see the desktop and remotely control it. Multiple connections are accepted but all see the same desktop

Computer Suddenly Cannot Get Online - Page Cannot Be Displayed Screen

Mar 3, 2011

The problem i am experiencing is that on my home network i have been using for several years now one computer on my network suddenly cannot get online..however it can connect. They determined that all is working well and all settings are as they should be. I then contacted my ISP, Cox communications and was essentially told the same thing. This is after going through several tests with each, such as ping tests, turning the gateway off/on, reviewing settings such as TCP/IP, DNS, etc, etc. The findings were that i have IP addresses and everything else that should be there. Ive turned off the firewall, disabled antivirus, reset tcp/ip stack and winsock. I have been working on this for two days and after paying for it still do not have it fixed. The computer acts as it normally does, no other problems except that when i press the IE icon to open a browser window it tries to go to my homepage, google, but then reverts to the "page cannot be displayed screen". This computer is running XP SP2 and is a wired connection(although it was wireless when i first experienced the problem because i have a network adapter installed as well..but i disabled it and enabled my LAC and used the ethernet cable because this is one of the exercises cisco ahd me perform to see if i could connect wired/wirelessly.. better bandwidth anyway at 100mbps compared to the 56mbps with the wireless-g adapter). The othe computer is a laptop running windows 7.

Cisco Firewall :: Create Static PAT To Allow Host Address To Access Network Through ASA5510

Aug 23, 2012

The old syntax that I am much more familiar with has been deprecated.  On older IOS it would have been something like static (inside, outside) tcp 209.114.146.122 14033 192.168.30.69 1433 netmask 255.255.255.255  Plus an extended ACL to allow the traffic.I am trying to create a Static PAT to allow a host address to access our Network through an ASA.  I have external address 209.114.146.122 that I want to hit the external interface on an obscure port (say 14033) and translate that traffic to an internal host address on  port 1433.

How To Assign 2 Printers On Network With Same Name

It is a very active office so the trial an error thing sometimes takes a long time and also is frustrating because every time I install a new PC to the network (which is often) I run into the same problem over and over again. Setup A Wireless AP To Also Access Shared Drives?

Mar 11, 2011

My goal is to be able to login with a few laptops and be able to access internet and our file server's hard drive.

However, I purchased a wireless router and simply plugged this into the main router which allows internet access but does not allow access to other wired computers. If I directly plug the server into this wireless router with this router being wired to the main router, then the wired computers cannot access the server. It's as if it creates its own little network. So, I connected this directly to the main router which gives internet access but nothing else.

(Note: I cannot simply install a new main router.)

I believe I need a wireless access point, but I'm not certain.

Connecting Printers To A Home Network?

Jan 7, 2012

I have a cable wireless router in the ground floor lounge and have set up a home wireless network. In the upstairs study we have two desktop computers connected to the router via the wireless network. I have a laptop computer used around the house and garden which also uses the wireless network.A laser printer and an inkjet printer are both connected to one of the computers in the study via USB and are shared with all computers. This means that the computer with the printers connected must by running if anyone requires prints. Both printers have USB and Ethernet ports – but running a network cable to the router downstairs is impractical. Is there a way of connecting the printers directly to the network and leave them powered up so they can be used by any of the computers. I am hoping that there is some extra hardware that will enable me to do this perhaps via wireless.Or – would it be possible to use mains Powerline Network adaptors – with one adapter connected by Ethernet cable to the router and other adaptors connected by cable to each printer.

Devices And Printers No Longer Shows Wireless Access Points

Jan 26, 2012

Had the following network (fully functional) for last 3 years: Modem (netopia dsl 192.168.1.254) router (linksys wrt54gs 192.168.1.1) WAP1 (linksys wrt54g2 192.168.1.250) and WAP2 (Linksys wrt54g2).I was always able to click on Devices and Printers in Win 7 and would see the equipment displayed.I could also access the router and wireless access points by typing their address in my browser. The modem failed after 5 years.I purchase a new Netgear N300 ADSL2+Modem Router (DGN2200)and replaced the failed modem and attached router.I made no changes to either WAP's.Everything works just fine (after about 30 minutes on phone with Netgear Tech to configure), but now none of the equipment displays in Devices and Printers. Also, I cannot connect to either WAP by typing their address in browser.I can see the Netgear device when I click on "network" in file manager. It displays a model number and is labeled a "gateway".

I'm just curious as to why I am no longer able to "see" or access the devices. Looks like I would have to actually pull the WAP's and connect to them directly if I needed to change their configurations.

Vista Host Computer Freezes / When Trying To Connect To Printer From Another PC

May 2, 2011

Small office setup with a wireless modem/router. We have two computers that are identical HP Pavilion a6807c PCs running Vista Home Premium. Other computers in the office are a bit older and run either XP or Vista.Just purchased a new HP Officejet 7000 printer and connected it via a USB to one of the HP Pavilion Vista computers (which I will refer to as HP1). The printer works fine on HP1 using the direct USB connection.Set printer sharing, file sharing, and even public sharing on both HP computers (HP1 and the other one I will refer to as HP2). Workgroup name is the same. Can access HP1 and see the HP printer on HP1 from other computers in the office. However, when I try to connect to the printer from HP2 to HP1, it locks up HP1 and HP1 requires a hard reset. I tried installing the software/drivers on HP2, but HP2 still tries to install the drivers from HP1.I am not sure its a problem with HP1 as much as it is a Vista issue. The reason I say this is because I have been able to successfully use an XP computer (XP3) to connect and print to the Officejet on HP1.
