Router Cancels Out Wireless And Host Computer Connections?
Apr 3, 2011
So yesterday i was sitting at my computer, doing nothing and then the internet shuts off. So i go up stairs to check on the router, and all of the normal lights are on, as well as the modem. Neither the host or wireless computer has internet.I'm able to be on the forums because i hooked my modem up to this computer, without the router.Whenever i set the router back up, it has the normal connectivity lights on, but the wireless computer AND host computet dont get connection. How to get my wireless computer back up through this router, without canceling ALL connection.[CODE]

I was on my wireless computer ( XP ) one day and all of the sudden it stopped working, so i went to check the router/modem lights and they were all on, as usual. The host computer ( vista ) also lost connection. I'm able to post on these forums because i just bypassed the router and hooked my modem up directly to this vista PC.I can plug in my router, without cancelling connection.I want to use my wireless computer...

On my Pix515E ASDM console I quite often see large surges in the total number of connections. I would like to find a convenient way to see what (or who) is causing this.
The command Show Local gives the answers but it returns details of each connection and I can't see a way to omit the detail. Show Conn Count just gives the total. Ideally I would like to get a summary of the number of connections (TCP/UDP) for each inside host.
On a related matter I have used........
static (inside, outside) 12.34.56.00 2.34.56.00 netmask 255.255.255.0 tcp 400 100 udp 200 ..........to limit the number of connections to a subnet. This works and I see errors in the syslog when the limit is exceeded but when I change the limits and apply the changes, the syslog errors still show the previous limit being reached. How can I make changes to these connection limits take effect (without reloading the Pix)?

I have a hub and spoke network with over 100 remote sites that connect to me via ipsec vpn. One of these locations, the only one using FIOS coincidently, is initiating 200+ tunnels back to my side which is causing saturation issues on my DS3. (I can post config if requested), and how can I limit the number of active tunnels it's establishing?

Had laptop connecting wirelessly perfect with no problems. We then added another laptop and PSP 3 to the house hold. Any of the 3 devices will connect to the internet via wireless but ONLY one at a time. If you are connected with one and turn on one of the others it will kick the one off that you were on and only 1 device can use wireless at a time?

I am running WinXP Pro on a netbook which I have set up as a host with Real VNC. I connect well from all my Win 7 PC's. I do not want to just have remote access to that netbook. I would like to launch an application (which runs from MySQL) from the host which I can then use on the remote PC's display without that app actually launching and displaying on the host computer. At the moment, I can only see the desktop and remotely control it. Multiple connections are accepted but all see the same desktop

Small office setup with a wireless modem/router. We have two computers that are identical HP Pavilion a6807c PCs running Vista Home Premium. Other computers in the office are a bit older and run either XP or Vista.Just purchased a new HP Officejet 7000 printer and connected it via a USB to one of the HP Pavilion Vista computers (which I will refer to as HP1). The printer works fine on HP1 using the direct USB connection.Set printer sharing, file sharing, and even public sharing on both HP computers (HP1 and the other one I will refer to as HP2). Workgroup name is the same. Can access HP1 and see the HP printer on HP1 from other computers in the office. However, when I try to connect to the printer from HP2 to HP1, it locks up HP1 and HP1 requires a hard reset. I tried installing the software/drivers on HP2, but HP2 still tries to install the drivers from HP1.I am not sure its a problem with HP1 as much as it is a Vista issue. The reason I say this is because I have been able to successfully use an XP computer (XP3) to connect and print to the Officejet on HP1.

I have a home computer which part of the home's workgroup and I have a office laptop which is part of a domain. Both of these are connected to the home wireless router and I can ping from one to the other via IP only and not by hostname. I have to access DB which is on my home computer (workgroup) from office laptop(domain). How do I achieve this? I search the internet and found we can enable sharing by IP. But my usecase will require access to the workgroup computer using hostname from laptop.

The computer lost internet connections. Other computers in the house are fine with wireless and the direct connection. This computer I am working on is the one directly connected (not wireless).I tried the connection on other computers and it works. When troubleshooting, it indicates it lost the drivers so we downloaded the correct drivers and installed them on the computer. It indicates it has the updated drivers now. Funny thing is when you start of the computer the error message on the screen is Installation or Upgrade Error A problem occurred during the upgrade process.you must restart your computer. After it restarts, the Webroot upgrade resumes.I am concerned as my daughters computer has the same error message but her Internet connection still works.Seemed to me that Webroot could be a potential problem. Since we can't download the latest version (no internet and can't use disc we have as it tells us it is outdated) I tried to uninstall using WMPinfo.xml to finish the uninstall.I got an error that indicated - "The InstallAware Wizard for Webroot Software has failed: "WRConsumerService stop failed with error 2 and kill failed with error 128". If you continue to have trouble, please click the link below for assistance. And the link is titled Uninstall but without internet it is worthless. It uninstalled the Webroot SecureAnywhere file but it doesn't remove the Webroot Software. [code]

Is there any way to make it so that my computer has two internet connections, so to my router it looks my computer is two separate computers, and would this increase my speed, since my router is made for up to 15 connections and has only 300mb/s to give out, so [would]each computer is[be] only limited to 20mb/s? As of now I have a dlink xtreme-n DWA-552 adapter in my computer.

I am trying to make my computer support incoming VPN connections. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium on the computer I want to make the connection on.I am also using Verizon FioS internet (comes with default router/modem combo) to which I have the DIR-655 router connected. I am able to connect to both WiFi's fine and they work correctly.I think the Verizon router is set to block incoming VPN connections and I think this is why I cannot get anyone to be able to access my computer / internet via VPN. How I can perhaps forward ports and which settings I would need to specifically change in both routers admin settings so that I can get VPN connections to forward to my computer and be accepted.

In the past few days I have seen an odd named Client Host "The-Britannic" show up on my DHCP Active IP Table list. There is no device (that I'm aware of) with that name on my network. I delete it but it reappears, and is linked to the same IP (192.168.1.101) and MAC address everytime, so it appears to be a legitimate device. Although it looks like a legitimate device, it's not - so far as I know. I have added the MAC address to the blocked list (internet access / access restriction) to see if I or anyone in-house losese internet connectivity on any. So far, no. Searching various malware and spyware sites turn up nothing.
I realize the IP address is assigned by the router through the automatic DHCP assignement process. I do not broadcast my SSID and have a complex passcode assigned to both the wireless and internal network. Of course, that is no 100% guarentee that someone has not gotten in.I'm running a WRT54GL, all Windows 7 PC's on a home built network. I'll probably change all the passcodes (wireless and Windows Home Network) to see if that disallows access.

Cisco Linksys E3000
I have different types of network clients connecting to both bands of router (5 ghz and 2.4 ghz), and both bands set to WPA2 only. Everything has been set up and working for the past year with no problems.
Suddenly this morning, none of the 2.4 ghz clients can connect and get authenticated. When I attempt to ping them from a Windows 7 desktop connected by a LAN cable, I get Destination Host Unreachable.
The 5 ghz clients are fine and have had no problems. I tested this with the New iPad connected to the 5 ghz band.
Rebooted the E3000 router and the Comcast cable modem, then installed the newest firmware on the E3000 using the web access portal at 192.168.1.1, and still not working.
Changed the WPA2 Personal security mode for the 2.4 ghz band to WPA2 Personal/WPA Mixed Mode, and now all the clients are connected and authenticated and working OK, albeit slower.
What happened? And how can I fix this so I can change the security mode for the 2.4 ghz band back to WPA2 Personal?
P.S. The types of clients that connect to the 2.4 ghz band are 2 Windows 7 desktops, a Windows 7 laptop, and 5 Cisco Wireless N Internet Home Monitoring Cameras. The camera feeds have slowed down considerably using this Mixed mode.

I just purchased an E2500. I have a small home network dominated by Mac and Linux boxes, with an occassional Windows machine. On my previous router I had been running OpenWRT.
One of the nice features of DNSMASQ is that it will do local name resolution from the /etc/hosts file on the router. Is there anyway to turn on similar features in the E2500? I have a NAS box and a networked printer that require local name resolution. I had hoped that I could just create a DHCP reservation for them, and that the router would resolve their names for other hosts on the network. This does not appear to work.
Should I just be boxing this thing up and returning it in favor of a unit I can flash better firmware on to?

I attempted to upgrade the firmware on the WRT54G2 V1 (the newer, slim black model) but it failed. I let the upgrade run for about 10 minutes and it just sat there and link to router disconnected I run ping for 192.168.1.1 but response is "DESTINATION HOST UNREACHABLE". The router is now completely unusable and the ALL LAN ports lights are ON and Internet light is also ON.

I replaced my old wireless router with a Cisco Linksys E4200, running firmware version 1.0.02 build 13 May 24, 2011. About once a minute the router sends an unsolicited DNS message to the IPV4 multicast address 01:00:5e:00:00:fb with a destination IP address of 224.0.0.251. The unsolicited message is a DNS response with source port 32784, transaction ID 0, flags 0x8400 (standard query response, no error), questions 0, answer RRs 2, authority RRs 0 and additional RRs 1. The two answers both relate to the router itself: one has Name Cisco18738.local, type A (host address), class 1 (IN), cache flush true, time to live 1 minute, data length 4, and the address of the router. The other is the reverse of the same address. The additional record is for Cisco18738.local, type NSEC, class IN, cache flush true, time to live 1 minute, data length 5, next domain name Cisco18738.local, RR type A (host address).
When my desktop computer receives these messages it logs an error, for example: "Jun 23 07:39:22 sauterws02 avahi-daemon[1067]: Received response from host 10.146.9.1 with invalid source port 32784 on interface 'eth0.0'" The 10.146.9.1 is the router's IP address. I also see these messages on the wireless link from my laptop.I suppose the E4200 is generating these DNS messages in a misguided attempt to make sure there is no old information about its name. Is there a way to turn them off? If not, is there a way to report this to Cisco as a bug?
