Mar 18, 2012In my curiosity, when I typed one of my family members, I was so shocked to find that his personal information is right on the websites, as if he gave 'permission' to see his privacy, i.e., his age, marital status, even his home address. when I typed all of my family members, their personal informations are also on websites as if they all gave 'permission' to see their privacy.
It's 'privacy invasion' to see all of our family personal informations.
My question is; How to block websites from viewing all of my family members' personal informations?

Mar 3, 2012I have a home network running all Mac computers (though can run Windows VM if necessary) and a pair of USB printers. The wireless router and cable modem are in one room, but the printers are in another. I'd like to find the most practical way to add the printers to the local wireless network without sharing them from a computer. I've tried that for a while, but don't want to leave a laptop connected 24/7 just to enable wireless printing (rather defeats the purpose of a portable computer). I don't have any wired network lines in the home, and am not excited by the idea of running any cables.

Mar 13, 2011I have a question about my windows systems(XP and Vista) re-connecting to my network folders when my computers restart. I have some shared network folders on my Synology DS410. And then i mapped a network drive to use those folders.But every time i restart my computer i get the message "cannot reconncet all network drives"I have to put in my username and password everytime. I choose Remember login and password.How can i fix this so it automatically connects to these on restart?

Computer Suddenly Cannot Get Online - Page Cannot Be Displayed Screen
Mar 3, 2011The problem i am experiencing is that on my home network i have been using for several years now one computer on my network suddenly cannot get online..however it can connect. They determined that all is working well and all settings are as they should be. I then contacted my ISP, Cox communications and was essentially told the same thing. This is after going through several tests with each, such as ping tests, turning the gateway off/on, reviewing settings such as TCP/IP, DNS, etc, etc. The findings were that i have IP addresses and everything else that should be there. Ive turned off the firewall, disabled antivirus, reset tcp/ip stack and winsock. I have been working on this for two days and after paying for it still do not have it fixed. The computer acts as it normally does, no other problems except that when i press the IE icon to open a browser window it tries to go to my homepage, google, but then reverts to the "page cannot be displayed screen". This computer is running XP SP2 and is a wired connection(although it was wireless when i first experienced the problem because i have a network adapter installed as well..but i disabled it and enabled my LAC and used the ethernet cable because this is one of the exercises cisco ahd me perform to see if i could connect wired/wirelessly.. better bandwidth anyway at 100mbps compared to the 56mbps with the wireless-g adapter). The othe computer is a laptop running windows 7.

Mar 20, 2013I finally was able to connect two of my computers up to share files. The only problem is My Win7 computer can't see the xp computer although the Xp can see the Seven. When I first set it up Explorer showed the name of the Xp but when I clicked on it the dialog said it couldn't find the computer. The Xp name was in all caps and when I checked on the Xp the name was all lower case so I tried to change the name. When I tried, the OK button was grayed out so I went in to So I clicked on More and was able (I thought) to change the name there. I had to reboot and when I did the computer had just appended the DNS entry I had to give to the original lowercase name.
I was finally able to rename the XP computer! I changed the name to NETBOOK all caps like I had originally thought it was. BUT it makes no difference to the Win7 machine it still can't see the XP machine. I did a refresh and the Xp's name NETBOOK showed up But I am still back where I started from because when I click on it a dialog box just says that it can't access ||NETBOOK.

Feb 8, 2011my set up is simple...main computer cable connected to BT hub (broadband) - second computer, in another room, wirelessly connected through same hub. Recently, I decided to link the two computers with XP using the network wizard. Followed instructions, and everything worked fine until the other day, when the main computer couldn't 'see' second computer (but second computer could see main.) I've checked file sharing and firewall exceptions and all is well. Basically, I am using second computer as extra storage, and so I really would like to make connection again from main computer, not the other way round. Just cannot understand why main can't see second anymore?

Jan 19, 2011I recently got my laptop fixed after it being out of commission for about a year (it turns out there was just too much dust collecting in it) and when I got home and tried to connect to my wifi network, I didn't have internet access. I received a message that said I had sucessfully connected to my network but it was only a local connection - no internet. It also shows up as "Unidentified Network." This is peculiar to me because my boyfriend's laptop is able to connect to the internet wirelessly just fine, and I am currently using the wifi on my iPhone. Aug 15, 2012Normally use internet explorer 9, but I've tried Firefox and Chrome also.For some weird reason the Wi-Fi on my computer is super slow. My roommate has no problems at all. Same issue when only one of us are connected. What's really weird is that it's only on my home network the speed is a problem. At school and at other family members houses everything is working perfectly. I now use wired internet connection, and when I take a speedtest it is around 13MB, so the speed is pretty good.
I can mention that sometimes if my computer has been closed and the cable is taken out, when I turn the computer back on the Wi-Fi is suddenly working perfectly. Only for a while though, and then it's not working anymore. Has happened more rarely recently.I've been having this problem for around 7weeks now. When I first discovered the problem I tried to uninstall the latest updates (among windows updates), and it actually worked. But I want my computer to be up to date, so it's not a go to use those settings.
I have tried to reset the router to factory settings, but that did not work.We share internet with our landlord, so to privatize what we do, it's set up like this: Landlords modem -> switch in our apartment -> wireless router But that should not be problem. It's working on everyone else's computers. My mobile phone as no issues either;I've tried to update the driver on the wireless card, but it's up to date.
