my set up is simple...main computer cable connected to BT hub (broadband) - second computer, in another room, wirelessly connected through same hub. Recently, I decided to link the two computers with XP using the network wizard. Followed instructions, and everything worked fine until the other day, when the main computer couldn't 'see' second computer (but second computer could see main.) I've checked file sharing and firewall exceptions and all is well. Basically, I am using second computer as extra storage, and so I really would like to make connection again from main computer, not the other way round. Just cannot understand why main can't see second anymore?
To put it simply, my parents live far enough in the middle of nowhere that they have no access to high speed internet. Of course, there are always wireless solutions, but the options around here are pathetic and comparable to dialup. They were content with this; I moved back in with them for the time being and am not.y solution has been to dump just shy of $1,000 into a point-to-point wireless bridge setup that claims to have a range of 5 miles non-line-of-sight. I have one antenna set up four miles away on top of a building that has high speed internet.Unfortunately, I was a stupid fool and set that end up without enabling security, thinking that it wasn't a big deal. Nobody in that town has a mind for anything but farming and drinking. That was my mistake. Some asshole set a password and forced me to do a factory reset on the access point and now I can find no IP address. It's like it only reset halfway to factory defaults or something
As mentioned in my topic title, I am losing my internet connection every 14.75 minutes for about 10 seconds at a time. I've tried another website (Tech Guy Support networking forum) and I've come to a dead end. I though maybe that a site more dedicated to networking. but in the interest of saving time and making sure I've got everything formatted correctly, I have a few pictures that will clarify what is going on as well.
I'm at wit's end with diagnosing the problem and I don't know what else to try to get my network to stop acting up. I have a home network running all Mac computers (though can run Windows VM if necessary) and a pair of USB printers. The wireless router and cable modem are in one room, but the printers are in another. I'd like to find the most practical way to add the printers to the local wireless network without sharing them from a computer. I've tried that for a while, but don't want to leave a laptop connected 24/7 just to enable wireless printing (rather defeats the purpose of a portable computer). I don't have any wired network lines in the home, and am not excited by the idea of running any cables.
I have a question about my windows systems(XP and Vista) re-connecting to my network folders when my computers restart. I have some shared network folders on my Synology DS410. And then i mapped a network drive to use those folders.But every time i restart my computer i get the message "cannot reconncet all network drives"I have to put in my username and password everytime. I choose Remember login and password.How can i fix this so it automatically connects to these on restart?
FYI... 1 computer - Windows Vista Home Premium 1 computer - Windows XP Home Both connected via wired LAN
My iSCSI drives connect just fine on restart. Just not my mapped network folders.
I have a server webpage hosted on a local linux machine. I can access it by typing the I.P. into my address bar from another computer on the same network.way to connect to my computer on my home network from a computer not on my network.
I finally was able to connect two of my computers up to share files. The only problem is My Win7 computer can't see the xp computer although the Xp can see the Seven. When I first set it up Explorer showed the name of the Xp but when I clicked on it the dialog said it couldn't find the computer. The Xp name was in all caps and when I checked on the Xp the name was all lower case so I tried to change the name. When I tried, the OK button was grayed out so I went in to So I clicked on More and was able (I thought) to change the name there. I had to reboot and when I did the computer had just appended the DNS entry I had to give to the original lowercase name.
I was finally able to rename the XP computer! I changed the name to NETBOOK all caps like I had originally thought it was. BUT it makes no difference to the Win7 machine it still can't see the XP machine. I did a refresh and the Xp's name NETBOOK showed up But I am still back where I started from because when I click on it a dialog box just says that it can't access ||NETBOOK.
so I have this problem, the internet only work on one computer, whenever I connect to another computer it says something like: " Can't connect to IP 2, 3, 4 etc. I've tried resetting the modem, router and everything, it didn't work... Sooo, if I connect the same internet cable that's working on the computer to another one it doesen't work. What sholuld I do??, maybe change some settings in the router?
The computer I am using won't connect any of the routers I've tried (one innoband and two sonicwall tz100's, all of which work with other computers), even though it does connect to the internet through the ethernet port. It is a Dell optiplex 980
i am unable to connect to some lan computers in my office. when i go to start ---> Run ---> \192.168.0.24 or else...(lan computer ip) after 10/15 seconds a popup window comes and says (network path not found). but some systems i can easily access through this procedure
I love sharing on my home network to transfer files from one computer to the next. However, I will soon have tenants in my house sharing my network ...so they can use my Wi-Fi to get on the internet.I need a solution to give them access to the internet without losing my own network sharing ability.I do not want them accessing my files.I have Windows XP home and a Dlink WBR-2310 router.As I see it, I need to either upgrade to a router with a Guest Zone/Access feature ...OR..upgrade to Windows 7(?) to give myself more networking options (i.e. file sharing where I select the users or set a password). Currently the XP permissions are too general.
I recently got my laptop fixed after it being out of commission for about a year (it turns out there was just too much dust collecting in it) and when I got home and tried to connect to my wifi network, I didn't have internet access. I received a message that said I had sucessfully connected to my network but it was only a local connection - no internet. It also shows up as "Unidentified Network." This is peculiar to me because my boyfriend's laptop is able to connect to the internet wirelessly just fine, and I am currently using the wifi on my iPhone. I ran the ipconfig and several ping tests in cmd and used a wifi inspector.
I am just wondering how to set up a home network with an old computer used as a server... we will have a wii, ps3, lap top, and 2 desktops connected to the network as well as two dell printers. The laptop runs windows XP and the desktops run windows vista. The old computer will will use as a server is windows xp or windows 98 (most likely wont use that computer). What will i have to do to set this up and run the server as well as the network.
I've got a 200mbps down/100mbps up fiber connection at home. When I do a speedtest I get around 192mbps down which is more then enough. However my problem lies around my upload speed, but only on ONE computer.
I have a desktop and 2 laptops connected to a wireless router on my home network. I am running WinXP Pro on a netbook which I have set up as a host with Real VNC. I connect well from all my Win 7 PC's. I do not want to just have remote access to that netbook. I would like to launch an application (which runs from MySQL) from the host which I can then use on the remote PC's display without that app actually launching and displaying on the host computer. At the moment, I can only see the desktop and remotely control it. Multiple connections are accepted but all see the same desktop
I am trying to transfer files from Laptop A to Laptop B. I can transfer files from B to A, but I can't transfer them from A to B. When I try to, I get an error message saying "Windows cannot access Laptop A".It then gives me the option to diagnose the problem (I'm using Vista on both laptops, by the way). When I click that, it gives me the error of "Cannot communicate with Laptop A. We pinged the remote host but did not receive a response".Laptop A is connected to the network according to it, it can access the internet fine and can access other laptops on the network fine. I have disabled the firewall, shared the folders appropriately, made sure they were both on the same workgroup (they are both on the default Vista WORKGROUP), and still nothing.
Normally use internet explorer 9, but I've tried Firefox and Chrome also.For some weird reason the Wi-Fi on my computer is super slow. My roommate has no problems at all. Same issue when only one of us are connected. What's really weird is that it's only on my home network the speed is a problem. At school and at other family members houses everything is working perfectly. I now use wired internet connection, and when I take a speedtest it is around 13MB, so the speed is pretty good.
I can mention that sometimes if my computer has been closed and the cable is taken out, when I turn the computer back on the Wi-Fi is suddenly working perfectly. Only for a while though, and then it's not working anymore. Has happened more rarely recently.I've been having this problem for around 7weeks now. Here a have a quest that can't find the perfect solution for a half year now.I have one machine at office and one at home, both Windows XP SP3, ADSL connection with static IP.On the office machine a have an archive of about 250 GB of files.When i am at home sometimes i need to connect to my office machine, search through those files, maybe preview some, and then download some needed files to my home machine, using a download queue feature is possible.The task doesn't seem so complicated, yet, i did not find a perfect simple solution so far.
I'm working at a high school which has pretty large grounds. The network is configured via one central router and a lot of access points. Recently, they shut down my access point for a moment after connecting it again. The access point works fine (after finding my problem we've tested a lot of computers and they all connect to it and the internet). My laptop and my desktop - the only computers connected to access point when it was rebooted - do not connect to this access point however!
Instead, they "choose" to connect to an access point farther away, so that my signal strength is extremely low (and hence, my internet connection is very poor).How do I get my computers to connect to the previous access point with the strong signal?

My home desk top is set up with D-Link Xtreme N Dual Band Router. I have no problems accessing the internet on my desk top computer. I am trying to access my home wireless network through my HP laptop computer. The wireless network status is Limited or no Connectivity. I've tried the "repair" button with no resolution. The wireless connection is set to automatic.
The computer lost internet connections. Other computers in the house are fine with wireless and the direct connection.This computer I am working on is the one directly connected (not wireless).I tried the connection on other computers and it works.When troubleshooting, it indicates it lost the drivers so we downloaded the correct drivers and installed them on the computer. It indicates it has the updated drivers now. Funny thing is when you start of the computer the error message on the screen is Installation or Upgrade Error A problem occurred during the upgrade process.you must restart your computer. After it restarts, the Webroot upgrade resumes.I am concerned as my daughters computer has the same error message but her Internet connection still works.Seemed to me that Webroot could be a potential problem. Since we can't download the latest version (no internet and can't use disc we have as it tells us it is outdated) I tried to uninstall using WMPinfo.xml to finish the uninstall.I got an error that indicated - "The InstallAware Wizard for Webroot Software has failed: "WRConsumerService stop failed with error 2 and kill failed with error 128". I just installed a Netgear WiFi extender. In order to set all the preferences, it wants a password and login and I have no idea what that is. I tried everything I could think of, but no go. how to reset the pw and figure out what my login is? Have had no response that addresses this problem. I am using Win 7 and I have an ARRIS cable modem. I've already gone thru the users guide with a fine tooth comb and have found nothing. I have been using WiFi on Netgear equipment for years, so it's not a new network. I also tried the login=admin and password=password and that didn't work.
My mother's computer periodically loses internet connectivity. This happens regardless of the browser (IE or Firefox). She must restart her computer to get access again. This happens regardless of her internet connection. She uses verizon at her home and accesses through my wireless router when visiting. This also happens if she is on a public access network such as a hospital
I have a Time Warner Cable business class service with no static IP, with a wireless modem which is plugged to a CAT5 distribution panel. On the jacks (2 other rooms on the house) I have a Linksys E3000 and a Linksys Valet router for signal boost and gadgets usage (TV, cameras, etc).The main router (TWC) has it's own external IP which TWC assigns to me and internally distributes via DHCP the range 192.168.0.x. With that said:
- The E3000 has a 192.168.0.6 IP -- this is fixed setup on the TWC router (ubee brand) by MAC address - The Valet has a 192.168.0.7 IP -- this is fixed setup on the TWC router (ubee brand) by MAC address - The main router has the 192.168.0.1 as the gateway and web-interface
Whenever I connect something to the E3000, it is distributing the 192.168.1.x range and the valet 192.168.2.x range.That works perfectly for my home based business until I decided to use more stuff on the network such as a IP printer, IP cameras, etc.
- The IP cameras are connected to the E3000 due to signal strength and I have manually assigned them the 192.168.1.15 and 192.168.1.16 IPs and ports 9001 and 9002.
- The printer is connected to the E3000 and I have manually assigned the IP 192.168.1.30.
Issue 1: Port forwarding On the main router (TWC - UBEE) I have tried to setup a port forwarding by informing the Local IP as 192.168.0.6 (E3000 IP), Internal Port 0, Public Interface IP (0.0.0.0), Ext Start Port 9001, Ext End Port 9001, Protocol - Both, Enabled Yes. On the E3000 I did the same config (screen shot attached e3000.png).This is not working properly. I can't get into the camera.
Issue 2: Printer/ The printer is only accessible if I connect to the E3000 (because it is on the 192.168.1.x network)
Issue 3: How to configure all the devices on the same subnet? If I want everyone to be on the 192.168.0.x network, how to configure properly the E3000 and the Valet? I have tried to force them into the same network but it would not work properly. It would not get an IP from the UBEE router (main).
Here's the layout: Cable modem in the basement. Several devices in which I'd prefer a wired connection in the basement. Upstairs on the 1st and 2nd floor of the house are many devices in which wifi is fine or preferred.Here's the problem: As you might guess, wifi is weak upstairs and certainly on the patio and 2nd floor. I have an access point upstairs that I've experimented with but it is flaky.
