Mar 22, 2011The main computer received a virus and I had to reinstall the operating system. When I did, however, all settings disappeared. The lights on the modem and router are fine, and the secondary computer has full access to the Internet. I also can use my Wii with the Internet. I tried setting up the router again but the main computer won't load the web-based configuration utility page. The secondary computer, however, can. I tried plugging the modem directly into the computer but the computer didn't seem to recognize it either. I bought a new router, thinking if I got software it would automatically set everything. However, the router I received came with zero software. I plugged it in and the computer still couldn't connect to the config page. I am at a loss as what else to do here.
My old router is a Motorola WR850G and my new one is a Netgear WR614 v9. Either would be fine to use, as long as I can get both computers to connect. The host computer has XP and the secondary Vista.
Computer Won't Recognize Ethernet Cable?
Jul 30, 2011I just received a computer from a relative since they do not use it anymore. I just reformatted the hard drive and I can't seem to get it to connect to the internet. Every time I try my computer says there is no ethernet cable connected but I know it is. I read around on the forums and one thread (that is now closed), was about the same problem and to diagnose the problem they asked to use IPCONFIG/ALL in the cmd.exe. The results are this:

Unfortunately, my computer (WIN XP) won't recognise the device when using a direct connection though my talk talk supplied D-LINK wireless router. I have contacted WD and talktalk and gone through all the diagnostic processes but it still won't recognise the device. I have been able to connect this device through an older D-LINK router (still wireless) on the same talk talk ISP with no problems so I can't understand why it won't connect here. The WD device reports no problems but I can't access it, even when all firewall and AV programs are disabled.

My computer runs on Win 7, 32-bit so I have downloaded the latest drivers for Win 7 from your website. Now I want to manually update my adapter to the Win 7-driver, but I don't know how. The adapter won't even show up in the device manager.

Other computers in the house are fine with wireless and the direct connection.This computer I am working on is the one directly connected (not wireless).I tried the connection on other computers and it works.When troubleshooting, it indicates it lost the drivers so we downloaded the correct drivers and installed them on the computer. It indicates it has the updated drivers now. Funny thing is when you start of the computer the error message on the screen is Installation or Upgrade Error A problem occurred during the upgrade process.you must restart your computer. After it restarts, the Webroot upgrade resumes.I am concerned as my daughters computer has the same error message but her Internet connection still works.Seemed to me that Webroot could be a potential problem. Since we can't download the latest version (no internet and can't use disc we have as it tells us it is outdated) I tried to uninstall using WMPinfo.xml to finish the uninstall.I got an error that indicated - "The InstallAware Wizard for Webroot Software has failed: "WRConsumerService stop failed with error 2 and kill failed with error 128". Recently, I decided to link the two computers with XP using the network wizard. Desktop Doesn't Recognize Belkin Router
Mar 18, 2013My Dell destop with Windows 7 all of a sudden doesn't seem to recognize my router, yet my laptop works fine (which I'm using now). After reading other posts, I reset the router with no results, used a new cable from the Belkin to the computer, changed ports, checked connections, restarted; nothing. When I do an ipconfig, a small window pops open and goes off before I can make anything out. I undestand Belkin's IP address is 192.168.2.1 and I'm showing that my IPv4DHCP Server is that, as is my DNS server. The IPv4WINS server shows nothing.
