I'm running Windows 7, and we have a dual-band router on 2.4ghz and 5.0ghz. My wireless LAN card is capable of picking up both frequencies, but will not even recognize the 5.0ghz connection, only the 2.4 one. I've checked all of the settings, "country codes", everything I can think of, but I can't seem to find a reason.
View 8 RepliesThe main computer received a virus and I had to reinstall the operating system. When I did, however, all settings disappeared. The lights on the modem and router are fine, and the secondary computer has full access to the Internet. I also can use my Wii with the Internet. I tried setting up the router again but the main computer won't load the web-based configuration utility page. The secondary computer, however, can. I tried plugging the modem directly into the computer but the computer didn't seem to recognize it either. I bought a new router, thinking if I got software it would automatically set everything. However, the router I received came with zero software. I plugged it in and the computer still couldn't connect to the config page. I am at a loss as what else to do here.
My old router is a Motorola WR850G and my new one is a Netgear WR614 v9. Either would be fine to use, as long as I can get both computers to connect. The host computer has XP and the secondary Vista.
I have recently installed a new wireless network in my home. All my internet devices (Laptops, PS3, iPad etc.) have been able to acess the new network but my old Dell XPS 600 with its Dell 1450 wireless card cannot "see" the new network. When I refresh available networks in wireless connections the old XPS 600 can see various networks (neighbours etc.) but cannot recognise the new network even though its working fine with my other PCs
Do I need to upgrade the Dell 1450 wireless card ? If so what am I missing - what requirements do I miss? Which card should I buy?
i have a home Wlan network with a TP Link WR541G wireless router, 1 pc connected via RJ45 to the router and have another 2 inactive Wlan pci cards that also recognize the network. on the other hand i have my Gigabyte W576V laptop with a specially added GN-WS50G mini pcie card i installed. now for over a year or so everything was fine and the new card on the laptop recognized the network and connected butifully. now i can see any other wireless netweok around except the original home tplink network. my E72 nokia recognizes home network and every other devide except my laptop.
i have been looking through router settings and special local configuration on the laptop but coudnt find anything.
i dont remember installing any special driver or software in the time it stoped seeing my wlan netwrok. the laptop is 3ft-10ft in direct line to the antena and just nothing..
I just received a computer from a relative since they do not use it anymore. I just reformatted the hard drive and I can't seem to get it to connect to the internet. Every time I try my computer says there is no ethernet cable connected but I know it is. I read around on the forums and one thread (that is now closed), was about the same problem and to diagnose the problem they asked to use IPCONFIG/ALL in the cmd.exe. The results are this:

Unfortunately, my computer (WIN XP) won't recognise the device when using a direct connection though my talk talk supplied D-LINK wireless router. I have contacted WD and talktalk and gone through all the diagnostic processes but it still won't recognise the device. I have been able to connect this device through an older D-LINK router (still wireless) on the same talk talk ISP with no problems so I can't understand why it won't connect here. The WD device reports no problems but I can't access it, even when all firewall and AV programs are disabled.

2.4ghz has a password and 5.0ghz has a different pass.
When I go to my new slim 360 downstairs and try to connect wirelessly, it only shows the 2.4ghz SSID but not the 5.0ghz one. And this goes the same with the laptops downstairs and blu ray players.
I wanted my 360 on a 5.0ghz bandwidth.
I just bought a Wireless-N PCI adapter (WMP600N) and followed the instructions given by the CD. I installed the card into an empty slot and ran the CD to install the drivers, but error message 221 keep appearing to tell me that the computer can't see the adapter.
My computer runs on Win 7, 32-bit so I have downloaded the latest drivers for Win 7 from your website. Now I want to manually update my adapter to the Win 7-driver, but I don't know how. The adapter won't even show up in the device manager.

Each access point has a 5.0GHZ 4.5dbi Cisco omnidirectional antenna, although the AP only supports 2.4GHZ.
Q1. Why a 5.0ghz antenna might had been used with a 2.4ghz AP, and if we can expect increased performance if we replace the antennas with 2.4ghz ones?
Q2. On the controller, the antenna gain is set to 0 for each AP. Is there also a benefit to leaving that 0 as opposed to 9 for 4.5dbi?
About 5 days ago the computer crashed. I was able to reload Windows XP and load all the drivers and hardware. The only problem is, now the WLAN is saying that it is disabled and I am unable to enable it. The stupid thing about this is, when the computer crashed, the next day i was able to get on. The WLAN was working just fine and so I decided to go ahead and load windows anyways because it has been having issues. Every since I did that, the WLAN has been disabled.

When I'm connected via cable, I can access the internet perfectly well.However, if I try to connect using wireless, it can see the wireless router, asks for password, tells me I'm connected to the router - but it tells me that I'm in a local network only (can't find the internet). I've connected another laptop and a few smartphones to wireless, and they all work without any problem at all.I've done the usual take it all apart & start again, but it still comes back to the same problem.The only thing I wondered was that the new router is Wireless N, whereas the old laptop is a b/g - but we've got an older HTC smartphone that's only b/g and that doesn't have any problems.

So I recently got a new computer today and it won't let me use my 100mbps of internet bandwidth. (Asus Sabertooth Z77 with an Intel 82579v gigabit lan controller) I noticed that at the LAN connection properties>Properties>Configure>Link Speed tab the 'Speed and Duplex' option was on Auto Negotiation and it was only accepting (or supporting) the 10mbps Full Duplex. When I switched it to 100mbps Full Duplex it would mark my connection icon with a red cross and when I clicked diagnose it said "Please connect your ethernet cable or your cable might be broken". So I tested my internet speed with that same cable on a different computer (laptop) and it worked with 40Mbps, so I don't think the cable is broken. Also I just recently downloaded some drivers but one was specifically for the Intel LAN controller but I'm a total noob for all of this computer stuff I don't know if it messed it up or something. Is it the motherboard that's not working correctly?

Our router was infected with DNSchanger, so I sought to reset the router and update the firmware. I reset the router and it no longer recognized the internet connection. The power went out in the room where my desktop and router and modem and everything is located. The electrical outlet that all of those things were connected to suddenly stopped working so I had to relocate everything to the other electrical outlet in the room. Everything is working fine again, including the internet connection on my desktop, but now my laptop in the other room will not recognize my wireless connection. It gives me a list of available networks, but none of which are my own. Which makes no sense, as everything is working as normal on my desktop. I tried to "manually connect to a wireless network" by typing in the name and proper security type/encryption type and password, however it tells me a network called (my network name) already exists, and it says "use the existing network. Open the 'connect to a network' dialog so I can connect." or "choose a different name." When I choose the former option, the list of available networks pops up again but mine is not on there. And it should be, as I'm definitely in close range of my router.

I usually connect my PS3 to a switch which then goes to the BuT Home Hub and it works fine. However, I want to connect the PS3 directly to my Hub but when I plug it in to the Hub, it doesn't connect to the internet at all. Is there something I have to configure in order to get it to work?It is a PS3 160 GB Slim with Firmware 4.0.

SmartConnect is plugged into the WAN and I have tried the ethernet cable to the computer in spots 1 & 2. Good connection when SmartConnect modem is connected to computer directly.615's Internet indicator will turn green for a while, usually less than a minute or two, then flashes, then may actually cause the routers status indicator to flash off, then back on. Like a reset.

From what I understand the pc is getting gatewayaddress or does not recognize.
