Cisco Wireless :: AIR-LAP1242G-A-K9 / Using 5.0ghz Antennas With 2.4ghz Access Point?

May 25, 2012

I'm working in a campus environment that has an existing wireless network using a Cisco AIR-WLC2112-K9 controller. There are 8 AIR-LAP1242G-A-K9 access points connected to the  controller. Each access point has a 5.0GHZ 4.5dbi Cisco omnidirectional  antenna, although the AP only supports 2.4GHZ.

Q1. Why a 5.0ghz antenna  might had been used with a 2.4ghz AP, and if we can expect increased  performance if we replace the antennas with 2.4ghz ones?

Q2.  On the controller, the antenna gain is set to 0 for each AP. Is there  also a benefit to leaving that 0 as opposed to 9 for 4.5dbi?

Cisco Wireless :: Access Point 2602e Antennas Dual Band

Apr 9, 2013

I am currently looking for informations about access point 2602e, more precisly about antennas. This AP have four RTNC connectors for external antennas, but I found these table into Cisco documentation: [code] When I see that, I understand that we only need, to transmit, three antennas with 2,4 Ghz (which is the only band we will use in a first time), but four with 5 Ghz.I also found these informations, in the same documentation:The 2602E models are configured with up to four external dual-band dipole antennas, and two 2.4-GHz/5-GHz dual-band radios. The radios and antennas support frequency bands 2400–2500 MHz and 5150–5850 MHz through a common dual-band RF interface. Features of the external dual-band dipole antennas are:

• Four RTNC antenna connectors on the top of the access point
• Three TX and four RX antennas

My question: with four antennas, we have three TX and four RX, is it for 2,4 Ghz, 5 Ghz or both?

I have a AIR-LAP1242G-A-K9. I have several question:

1.       Does the antenna is a MUST for it to work.
2.       If I have a 1 unit of AIR-ANT2422DG-R (antenna) , does the wireless access still work? Do I need 2 antenna
3.       If I have a 1 unit of AIR-ANT2422DG-R, does 802.11 b supported.

Cisco Wireless :: AIR-LAP1242G-E-K9 Does Not Work With AIR-CT5508-K9

Mar 11, 2012

we do have a site where we need to deploy AIR-LAP1142N-E-K9 and AIR-LAP1242G-E-K9 APs. We have two AIR-CT5508-K9 controllers with SW version  6.0.188.0.AIR-LAP1142N-E-K9s work okay, as expected, we do not have any problems with them. However AIR-LAP1242G-E-K9s do not, there is a problem with establishing CAPWAP tunnel with the controller. The AP is seen on the controller for a while, with 0 time up-time, cannot change any settings on the AP via controller, and after a while it disapears from the controller, apears again and this repeats.

The APs and controllers are connected to the LAN campus.Controllers via two 1G links configured as Etherchannel to WS-C6506-E VSS switch with s72033-ipservicesk9_wan-z.122-33.SXI1.bin on it.APs to WS-C3750G-48PS with c3750-ipbasek9-mz.122-50.SE2.bin on it. 3750 is connected to the C6505 via two 1G links configured as Etherchannel.Below I copied the log I captured on 1242 and the controller. Highlighted ones are the ones which I think might bring a clue.

I performed some troubleshooting steps.

- As we have some other controllers available over WAN, I  tested the 1242 AP  with 2100, 4400 and also with the same model AIR-CT5508-K9 with SW version 6.0.188.0 over WAN and this worked always okay.

- I wanted to be sure that I eliminate any kind of out of sequence packet issue, so I brought down all redundancy L2 links so that the L2 path from the AP to the controller was only through one leg links.

- I also brought the second controller down to eliminate potential issue with having two of them up.

- The AP gets its IP from DHCP configured on the C6506 switch, I am always able to ssh to AP, so the IP connectivity does not seem to be an issue.

- I have more 1242s, all behave in the same way. I also connected them to some other 3750 switches we have in the campus, always the same.

- As this seems to be maybe a kind of ssl issue, I tried to play with controller settings, like enabling Accept... options  under Security/AP Policy, but this did not work.

- I also tried to reboot the controller, no improvement.

- The APs came from the factory, so in the beginning everything was factory default in them. They were always able to download the image from the controller in the very initial phase. I still do have some of them untouched, so I can perform any troubleshooting steps with the fresh one.I can reproduce this, can also send debugging logs if needed.

Cisco Wireless :: AIR-LAP1242G-A-K9 - Devices Keep Disconnecting From Lightweight APs

Jun 12, 2012

I have several Lightweight APs (AIR-LAP1242G-A-K9) runing of a single WLC.  We keep getting devices, sometimes all devices, losing network signal.  The WLC is running a global power setup so all APs have their power set automatically.  The setting for power parameters are default.  I have noticed when I run a client test the APs run at 11Mbps while the client devices run at 50-54Mbps.  The protocol used by both devices is 802.1G. These network drop offs are frequent and I should say may well be an issue with the client devices although there are several different types of devices experiencing this issue.  My question is should the TX and RX rates be the same?  Is it ok to have this disparity in the TX/Rx values?

Cisco Wireless :: AIR-LAP1242G / Apply Button Not Working When Changing AP Settings?

Apr 24, 2012

I am working on installing a new 2500 Controller with 2 AIR-LAP1242G's attached to it.  I have both registered and on the controller but I am having trouble moving one of them to a new IPS AP group that I created.  Furthermore, I noticed the default gateway is missing from the static ip settings and I am unable to add that as well.  When I add the default gateway and hit apply, the controller does nothing. Same thing for when I try to change my WIPS device to monitor mode.

A couple other things that I noticed is that when I go to AP groups and try to remove the AP's from the default group, there is no remove button when you go inside the default group like  I see when i go into my IPS group. The AP's are on software ver 12.4(23c)JA3 Boot ver 12.4.13.0 and the controller is at 7.0.22.0I have already power cycled the controller and both AP's.

WRT54G Router - Access Points Use Default Antennas

Jan 22, 2012

I am pretty clueless with anything beyond creating a simple home wireless network. But I work at a 10 room inn which is surrounded by a few properties that are also part of the inn. We need to adequately cover a diameter of about 400ft in all directions from the inn with wireless internet. Even at 400 ft the signal should be reliable and able to Skype and stream videos. The path from the Inn to each of the surrounding properties is clear. For those with experience setting up a wireless network with 400ft diameter, what equipment would you recommend?

Our network now consists of several WRT54G routers. The access points use the default antennas and we have a couple directional antennas to reach a couple of the nearby houses. We need the signal to reach another house or two now. Rather than installing more directional antennas, the owner of the inn wants to wants to just purchase new equipment for the Inn to easily reach all of the surrounding houses which house innkeepers or guests.

Using 5.0ghz Bandwidth On ASUS RT-N56U?

Sep 24, 2011

I selected WPA-PERSONAL on the router settings and set a different password for each one.

2.4ghz has a password and 5.0ghz has a different pass.

When I go to my new slim 360 downstairs and try to connect wirelessly, it only shows the 2.4ghz SSID but not the 5.0ghz one. And this goes the same with the laptops downstairs and blu ray players.

I wanted my 360 on a 5.0ghz bandwidth.

Linksys Access Point :: WRT54G - Unable To Find Access Point In Home Network

Aug 29, 2009

I just bought an LG Bluray DVD player (BD390) which is unable to find the access point in my home network. My router is a WRT54G, ver. 2.2, running firmware: Ver.4.21.1.  My home network uses high speed cable with two computers on the wireless network, all working with no problems. The router is on the second floor but the two computers and the new BD390 are on the first floor - about 35 feet away. I have the wirelss security set to none and use only the specific computer MAC addresses to allow connection to this network.

I found directions in the forum for a setup using the LG BD390  but with a different Linksys router. I changed the security to WPA (AES); the Beacon interval from 100 to 75; the Fragmentation Threshold from 2346 to 2304; and the RTS Threshold  from 2347 to 2307. The DVD wireless connection still failed to find my network. There is a "Push button" connection feature on the BD390 setup which I tried, but the only "button" on the router I could find was in the basic wireless setting, a green icon for the wireless SSID setup. No connection was made there either.

The recommendation connection from the LG manual is for a network cable, but that would be over 50 feet and a real pain to connect, so I would prefer WiFi.

Linksys Access Point :: WAP54G Access Point Unable To Connect To More Than One PC?

Apr 25, 2011

I've got a AP WAP54G. I've managed to get into the configuration page and rename my router and set a WPA2-Personl password.

The issue I'm facing is that when me and my roomate try to connect to the router at the same time, it shows the laptop that connects second as one that has 'limited connectivity' and hence cannot use the internet. The 1st laptop however works fine!
The settings for the router have all been left to default.

I'm not sure, but does this problem have anything to do with the fact that the router in configured with a static IP. If so, then there is another issure which is that whenever I try to change it from static to automatic/dynamic IP, the page fails and the router doesn't even get connected to the configuraion page(192.168.1.245) after that. The only way to get that page again is the reset the router.

Also I'm not able to directly get into the config page when I connect my router to my laptop via lan. I need to change the LAN IP to 192.168.1.x where x is >1.
