Cisco Wireless :: Use Patch Antennas With AP 1552E?
Sep 18, 2012I need to use 14Dbi patch antennas (like AIR-ANT5114P-N I use to have on AP1522) on AP 1552E. Is it possible?

Rebooting the Rap will resolve the issue, but the problem comes back and some random point in the future. Prior to rebooting the Rap to fix the issue, the Rap shows as joined to the WLC, but I have noticed that the neighbor details look stale, meaning my MAPs don't show up as neighbors, but other MAPs in the area are in the neighbor list, listed by MAC address. At this time, I can not confirm whether or not the neighbor detials are changing (updating), but I can confirm that my MAPs never show up as neighbors. As soon as the RAP is rebooted, MAPs join the controller again.

Only the RAP has a wired connection to their existing network. The client has informed me they want to hang switches off of the MAPs to connect existing wired devices. I found this in the install manual, "To forward bridge traffic, add a switch between the power injector and controller" but I will not be using power injectors (just AC power). Will adding a switch off of the AP's impact their wireless bridging abilities?

My desktop PC which has an Asus PCE-N13 Wireless Adapter with two stock SMA antennas receives a very poor signal due to the significant distance between my desktop and the router. In order to improve my signal strength, I thought about buying better 3rd party antennas and specifically external ones which I could place closer to the router that connect to the SMA connections on my wireless adapter via a wire. There's many of these antennas for sale I see, but I'm unsure which is best suited for my situation.

Done a wifi mesh using 1552E and 1552i mix of AP's ? With the 1552E as RAP and 1552I's as MAP's ? Is it a recommended model of deployment and will it work well ? the 1552i having radiation pattern more towards the ground when mounted on top , will the mesh backhaul to the 1552E be strong enough ?
Will this work if i put the 1552e at a lower level than the 1552i so that the mesh is formed properly ?
I've looked through the documentation for loading the autonomous image on a 1552E WAP that has the lightweight image on it. All the documentation I can find mentions using the "archive" command at the command line. It doesn't appear to like the archive command.
I've seen in the documentation that it also mentions the software is loadable through the controller, but I can't figure out how to do that.
I currently have the 1552E connected to my 5508 controllers running 7.3 software. how to load this autonomous image on to the 1552E? I'm planning on using it to do site surveys with the 1552E.
I just have a brand new Aironet 1552E , just took it out of the box and connect to the same subnet with a WLC 5508 v7.2 fully config and working However, it could not join the WLC 5508.

I have not done the firmware for the units yet but have had only 1 outage thus far (but I think it was a power issue over the weekend). What I have done, 3 weeks ago, is put external antenna's on the 2 units which are 15 feet apart at 15dBi.The output is 40hz and I changed the latency time settings on the main unit, leaving the secondary at factory. This seems to be working for me so far. Usually goes down over the weekend and have to reset Mondays, but not this week. I am afraid of running the firmware because then it may become unstable again.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a question about external antennas on an access point. I have to plan a wireles solution, that also includes coverage in the industrial freezers. The freezers are one part of the sotck rooms, so the general coverage will be done with 1602I access points.
Since there are quite a lot of freezers in one location, installing separate AP in every freezer will be very expensive. I wondered if there is a possibility to put one 1602 access point with external antennas outside the freezer and then extend the antennas with 2m cables inside different freezers (1602E has three external antennas, so one antenna to each freezer).
Would this installation even work?
The freezers are quite small rooms maybe 2-3m2 sow the coverage is not a problem. But does this installation support multiple clients per AP in different freezers doing stocktaking with handheld terminals?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm working in a campus environment that has an existing wireless network using a Cisco AIR-WLC2112-K9 controller. There are 8 AIR-LAP1242G-A-K9 access points connected to the controller. Each access point has a 5.0GHZ 4.5dbi Cisco omnidirectional antenna, although the AP only supports 2.4GHZ.
Q1. Why a 5.0ghz antenna might had been used with a 2.4ghz AP, and if we can expect increased performance if we replace the antennas with 2.4ghz ones?
Q2. On the controller, the antenna gain is set to 0 for each AP. Is there also a benefit to leaving that 0 as opposed to 9 for 4.5dbi?
