Mar 27, 2013I have four DCS-942L cameras and a 2012 model Airport Express router. I cannot view live video from outside the router in any fashion other than mydlink.com's poor quality time-limited forwarded video. Here is what I have done.I have manually mapped four TCP ports through the router for accessing the cameras' web servers. This works--I can access the camera settings that way, albeit with NO SSL support (dammit). So, fundamentally, port forwarding works on this router. The "live view" accessed through the camera's web server does not work, though.I mapped port 554 on each camera to ports on the WAN side of my router, TCP and UDP.I have made sure that the external ports set on the camera under "Enable UPNP port forwarding" are the same as the external ports set on my router. (Otherwise the web server wouldn't work from outside.)When I access the mydlink web site from inside the LAN, I can view my video. When I run netstat -n -p tcp, I can see connections open to the local 192.168.0.* addresses of my cameras, so it is connecting via the LAN.If I connect to the Internet outside my LAN, and use the mydlink web site, I get the forwarded, mini-sized video with a 60 second limit. netstat reveals that connections are being attempted to the INTERNAL ip addresses of my cameras, which of course cannot succeed from outside. In addition, if I try to stream video using QuickTime Player from outside, using the URL [URL], the player connects, then says "waiting for stream" and then "switching transports." It gets stuck there and does not proceed. On the LAN, using the local IP address, I can stream video just fine.
Any way to change this?What other ports do I need to open to make the video stream work? I tried mapping ports 5556-5559 to one of my cameras, but that did not work. Also, I have four cameras and need to be able to map to all of them for this to work.The AirPort Express supports "NAT Port Mapping Protocol" which, from my limited research, is not the same as UPNP. How to successfully viewed video from outside a router without using UPNP?I have scoured these forums considerably and have read some success stories using UPNP. From the DCS-942L manual, it seems like I should be able to set up manual port forwarding in some fashion to make the video stream work. Clearly, though, some auxiliary connection is being attempted and the client cannot get through to the camera. Is it possible to even pick this statically, or is the port always dynamically chosen by the camera and therefore absolutely must be set up on the router using UPNP? If I can't make static port forwarding work, then these cameras are headed to camera heaven soon.

(2 much 2 ask for both)

--Will NAS work with PS3?
--Incase of a computer, i know i will be able to use logmein or gotomypc to Download files directly to that machine even when im not home and when i do get home its ready to go. Can the same be achieved with a NAS?What else should i consider? i.e. pros and cons of both.
Sharing :: Prompted To Enter Network Password After Turning Off Sharing?
Aug 9, 2011Trying to create a network for file sharing, as have upgraded the 'server' (part of a Workgroup, not a Domain) from WinXP to Win7 and experienced problems ever since. Ironically the problems haven't mainly been with sharing files between Win7 and WinXP systems, but between 2 Win7 systems. I bought a new Win7 laptop and tried to connect it to the server, but it hasn't had Read/Write privileges over the files in the Win7 server. Entering a username and password to gain access to the servers folders has not been a problem, and as far as I know, opening files such as documents has not been a problem either. However, when trying to save an edited document, access is denied, and if I try to open an executable file (this is necessary for a node installation), it prompts me for a network password. Every combination possible of username and password from the 2 systems (including '' or 'SYSTEMNAME' before the username) has not worked. I tried syncing the times which was apparently a previous problem, but to no avail. I am unable to access Local Security Policy, as the server is running off Home Premium. I have tried creating a new workgroup, removing and changing passwords, enabling guest access to the network through the Windows Resource Kit Command Shell, creating identical users on both computers, but nothing appears to have worked.

Apr 21, 2013Im on windows 7, I was able to view people on the network, able to access their public folders, but all of a sudden when I click on network, it just says at the top "Network Discovery and file sharing are turned off. Network computers and devices are not visible, Click to change..." I click on it and it doesn't do anything at all, same message comes on. SO i thought Ill change the settings, I see that Network Discovery is off so I turn them both on, save changes and then try again, same message appears, I go back to settings and see that they are switched off again, it doesn't stay on.

May 21, 2012My IT Department has recently installed Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 on our laptops. Through a conversation with my IT guy I found that they can literally see what we are installing/uninstalling, surfing etc on our machines. When I am at home I am connected to my own private wireless network with my work laptop and I RDP to my home computer to surf/download files etc to my home machine. My question is, can my IT department track what I am installing/surfing on my home PC that I am connected to RDP? I was thinking of putting my RDP on the outside so I can connect to my home network and surf securely without my IT department keeping tabs on my history.

It is the main system with IP 192.168.1.1.Another location using IPs 192.168.0.1 has a dvr (192.168.0.154) with ports 80, 37777 and 37778.I can access them from the main location just fine but setting up a service then a rule does not allow me to connect from outside the network. I assume this is the same for anything trying to reach the other side of the vpn but I'm not sure

Sharing :: Change Network Settings So Internet Connection Appeared As Public Network
Jan 25, 2011I use my desktop for streaming media throughout the house. I found it was causing lag for gaming most likely because it was taking up all the bandwidth for the router. We had a 2nd router laying around as well as a 2nd wireless adapter so we set up a 2nd network that was not connected to the internet for strictly media streaming.I attempted to change the network settings so the internet connection appeared as a public network so that streaming of media was hopefully diverted to the non internet wireless adapter.I want a faster way of transferring large video files from my laptop to my desktop. I recently bought a crossover cable to do this through direct connection.Both use the same user name and password as well as run the same win 7 pro however the desktop is the 64 bit version. I set up both ipv4 with the same addresses.When it has worked I am only getting a connection speed of just over 10mb and once I connect the crossover cable between the computers it knocks out my internet connection on the wireless card.

I've tried that for a while, but don't want to leave a laptop connected 24/7 just to enable wireless printing (rather defeats the purpose of a portable computer). Jul 22, 2012I ran the setup CD and can access my camera from inside my local network. When I try to access it from outside, I can access the camera fine but the video stream is black. I tried RTSP ports 554, 2080 and 5632 with no success (of course I port forwarded the dsl modem as well). My dsl modem is a westell 7500 and my ISP is frontier communications. I contacted their support tech and at first he ran me through the exact port forwarding sequence I had already done on the modem. He then went away for a while and came back to say that I need to upgrade to their fixed internet address service. I understand dynamic DNS and don't think this is an issue because I can contact the camera OK, I just don't get the video through (black screen). Another issue is that the camera is reporting PPPOE 'failed'. The support tech has given me two PPPOE user names and passwords but neither work. The support tech said that they do require PPPOE.

May 8, 2013In have the 942l and the mydlink Lite app on the iPhone. I have recording set up on the camera capturing in .mp4 format. I can view the camera on the phone fine. I can go the menu and select playback. I see the date of my recordings and the time. Each individual file is listed as you can see.
When I select any of these files, I get a black screen.
Do I need to change the rtsp URL? Anyone have this working correctly on the iPhone? If so, can you share your settings?

Sep 8, 2012I have cable @ 15Mbps down, 2Mbps up. The cable line comes into the crawl space in my daylight basement. I have 3 Cat-5 cables running through the house. 1 to the TV downstairs, and then 1 each to 2 bedrooms on the second floor (one of which is my home office). In the home office, this Cat-5 is connected to a 24-port switch. I plug my printer, NAS, computers, etc into this switch.I have a WRT54G2 v1 that I was using as my Router/AP.I have a 1st & 3rd generation iPad. The iPad 3 plays YouTube videos in HD. About 6 weeks ago I started to get slow YouTube video playback on my iPad's. They would play a few seconds, then pause to buffer, etc. It used to be that videos started playing almost immediately and would never buffer.
Using Wifi Analyzer for Android, I noticed my neighborhood is saturated with 2.4Ghz wifi. So, I figured it must be that the 2.4Ghz band is saturdated and if I moved to a 5Ghz band, the YouTube buffering would be fixed.So, I purchased an E4200 (v1 I think) from Amazon. I bought this Router/AP because it supported the 5Ghz band. It also I connected it to my cable modem and setup everything. Still slow YouTube, and now YouTube videos are slow on my laptop (connected via ethernet). I still get ~15Mbps over ethernet or wifi using the speed test page provided by my ISP, but YouTube videos are VERY slow.
