Home Network :: WAP Knocking Router Offline?

Apr 19, 2012

My network layout is in the attatched photo, all hard wired to their destination. The wireless routers in the picture have been replaced with Netgear WG602 WAP's in an attempt to fix this problem. Ive aquired a smart phone (android) and decided to setup two WAP's on my property for mine or my guests' usage. When I connect to the WAP on the android my Linksys Router gets knocked offline and I have to unplug it to get everything on the network to connect to the internet.

Home Network :: Adding 3G Internet Access To Small Offline LAN?

Mar 10, 2011

I'm setting up a small network (one server, two clients) to create photo sales kiosks at an upcoming outdoor event. I will need internet access for processing credit card payments but there won't be any wi-fi or ethernet internet access on the site so I'll need to utilize my iPhone's 3G connection. I recently installed "MyWi" app which can tether the 3G and even create a personal wi-fi hotspot but unfortunately it only works in ad-hoc mode, not infrastructure. So far, the wired LAN is working great on my three Macbooks, using a Linksys (DD-WRT) router. Also, the wi-fi hotspot is working great to provide internet to all the computers. The problem, of course, is that I can't have both connected at the same time or else everything breaks. I've tried doing an iPhone-USB-Macbook tether and then sharing the connection via ethernet but the internet doesn't get through the router (because I don't have a clue of how to configure the router for this). I've also tried setting my router (DD-WRT) to do a client-bridge of the iPhone ad-hoc wi-fi, but again, it's way over my head and didn't work.

D-link Dir-615 :: New Windows 7 Laptop Knocking Out Wifi

Jun 25, 2012

I have had a very stable wifi with my 615 for the last year. No problems with my desktop (Vista) or laptop (Vista) or other comp(XP). Just purchased a new laptop (Windows 7) which knocks out my wifi every 5-10 minutes. Cycle power and back up she comes. Now its to the point that when sometime when the wifi goes down..it also knocks out my hard line connection. This is also corrected with a power cycle. I've tried every "tip" I could find through Google (channel 11, only wpa-only, 802.11n only, etc.)and updated the firmware to "Current Firmware Version : 2.25  Current Firmware Date : 2008/05/16 "  Again...this problem only reared it's ugly head when I brought the Windows 7 OS into the mix. It seems like its could be related to uploads as it drops my wifi while sending emails or posting. I've also noticed a drop in my upload speed (speedtest) from my hard line comp.

DIR-615 B2

Son's new Windows 7 comp causes same issue. And..I can stream Pandora all day without a problem with my tablet but as soon as a Windows 7 comp connects, the crashes begin.

Network Printer Offline After Reboot

Nov 23, 2012

I have 2 XP machines, both connected to a network switch which connects them to a print server attached to a printer. The last print server recently died and has been replaced, but the problem remains. I've downloaded the driver from the printer manufacturers website and installed on both XP machines, one functions fine but after each reboot the printer is grayed out on the other. Removing it and adding again fixes this until the next reboot.I am aware of some networking issues at this site which result in a few dropped packets between sites but shouldn't be an issue here since they are all attached to the same switch.

Home Network :: Advanced Home Network Setup (3 Subnets) And Port Forwarding?

Feb 24, 2013

I have a Time Warner Cable business class service with no static IP, with a wireless modem which is plugged to a CAT5 distribution panel. On the jacks (2 other rooms on the house) I have a Linksys E3000 and a Linksys Valet router for signal boost and gadgets usage (TV, cameras, etc). The main router (TWC) has it's own external IP which TWC assigns to me and internally distributes via DHCP the range 192.168.0.x. With that said:

- The E3000 has a 192.168.0.6 IP -- this is fixed setup on the TWC router (ubee brand) by MAC address
- The Valet has a 192.168.0.7 IP -- this is fixed setup on the TWC router (ubee brand) by MAC address
- The main router has the 192.168.0.1 as the gateway and web-interface

Whenever I connect something to the E3000, it is distributing the 192.168.1.x range and the valet 192.168.2.x range. That works perfectly for my home based business until I decided to use more stuff on the network such as a IP printer, IP cameras, etc.

- The IP cameras are connected to the E3000 due to signal strength and I have manually assigned them the 192.168.1.15 and 192.168.1.16 IPs and ports 9001 and 9002.

- The printer is connected to the E3000 and I have manually assigned the IP 192.168.1.30.

Issue 1: Port forwarding On the main router (TWC - UBEE) I have tried to setup a port forwarding by informing the Local IP as 192.168.0.6 (E3000 IP), Internal Port 0, Public Interface IP (0.0.0.0), Ext Start Port 9001, Ext End Port 9001, Protocol - Both, Enabled Yes. On the E3000 I did the same config (screen shot attached e3000.png).This is not working properly. I can't get into the camera.

Issue 2: Printer/ The printer is only accessible if I connect to the E3000 (because it is on the 192.168.1.x network)

Issue 3: How to configure all the devices on the same subnet? If I want everyone to be on the 192.168.0.x network, how to configure properly the E3000 and the Valet? I have tried to force them into the same network but it would not work properly. It would not get an IP from the UBEE router (main).

Home Network :: Need Input On Network At Home Newly Wired

Jan 14, 2012

I am a new student in networking, taking the CCNA courses, and now want to rewire my home. I currently have a cable modem and E2500 setup running my network. I want to get the modem and router out of my computer room and in the basement where the cable enters the house. I want to do this to clean up the computer room wiring a bit and to run line drops to different rooms in the house where the internet will be utilized.Currently there are two PC's, a laptop, a tablet, sometimes a phone, and an XBOX using the internet. I want to get my printer back up and running on the network but thats another story. Only one PC is currently hardwired. I would like to run two cables into the room with the PC and XBOX that are currently using wireless, at least two into the computer room for the PC and network printer, and one or two into the living room for the blue ray player and possibly an internet tv.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2000 Internet Access Is Not Affected When Printer Appears To Be Offline

Jun 10, 2011

I've got a Linksys E2000 router and a Brother MFC-7840W wireless printer and they don't seem to want to play nice together.  The set-up process was fine and I can usually print wireless without a problem, but every so often I'll try to print and my computer will say that the printer is offline.  Other computers on my network also show it as offline. The printer confirms it has an IP address, but even after power cycling it won't be picked up by my machines.  I've even tried a full reset of the printer and re-configured it, at which point it is able to successfully obtain an IP address, but it still shows as offline on my PCs.

The only solution I have found is to powercycle the router.  This always works.  Now that's not a terribly inconvenient workaround most of the time, so I've been doing that for a few months now.  It obviously implicates the router as the point of failure, but wireless internet access is not affected when the printer appears to be offline, so obviously some packets are getting through normally.

Home Network :: Playing MPEG-2 File In Webpage From Home Server?

Dec 20, 2012

I have setup a webserver on my home PC and I have forwarded port 80 on my router to the IP adress of the PC that is running the web server. The web server is working great; I can get to my web pages from outside of my home by going to http://MyIpAddress/Anyway, the problem is with the Windows Media Player plugin I'm using. I want to embed 6GB MPEG-2 videos into my web pages. I have some videos on my PC and I want to be able to watch them remotely by connecting into my web page. It works fine when I'm at home; other PCs can connect and play the videos no problem. The problem is when I'm at work. When I'm at work, I go to my web page (via my IP address in a web browser) and the Media Player plugin says "Connecting" for a minute, then it says Ready, but the video will not play. I tried using a smaller, AVI file (680 MB) instead to see if the problem was streaming such a large file, but the video still would not play.Do I need to foward more ports on my router so that Windows Media Player can connect back and get the information it needs?

Home Network :: Unique Situation With Home Network

Mar 9, 2013

My Set up at home is as follows: [code] Now according to what I have read I should be able to set the subnet on .2.0 network to a subnet of 254 and this gives me 512 Hosts I believe however my question at this point is how to route between 192.168.1.0 and 192.168.2.0.Or when I set the subnet .254 does the router just route it automatically.I would still set the subnet mask on both networks to 254 correct? I believe I can only use 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.255 w/.254 subnet mask. However I already have some servers that are configured with applications (On the 192.168.2.0 network) that I do not want to change ips on because it would be a pain to reconfigure so, my other question is other than using .252 to extend it to 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.3.255, (I need the 192.168.2.0) is there anything I can do? Like use 192.168.1.0 with subnet mask of 255.255.254.0 to get the 192.168.2.0 network? The reason I asked is I was using a subnet calculator to try and figure this out but every time I put in 192.168.1.0 with .254 subnet mask it changed the ip to 192.168.0.1 to 192. 168. 1. 255.I would really like to use the netgear only. The way I have it now is not working I am able to ping the internet from the 192.168.1.0 network but I can't ping from 192.168.2.0 network to the 192.168.1.0 network.

Home Network :: Integrating 3550 Into Home Network?

Jul 13, 2012

At the moment I have my home network (192.168.0.0/24) like as below (all connect using straight cables): [code] My Cisco lab equipment are in the basement all connecting to an access server which at the moment is plugged into Switch3-dumb (along with a printer & NAS).What I'm thinking is to replace the Switch3-dumb with a 3550 I'll be picking up later this week. Then using this to do as the Switch3-dumb did maybe by creating a native 'vlan 192' & putting it into a gig interface which will connect to the network using the straight cable, also putting the printer & NAS into the same vlan. This will hopefully still give me connectivity throughout. Then when required I'll like to use the 3550 with the rest of my Cisco equipment for setting up different labs (segmenting them from the home network by using different vlans etc.One of my reasons to implement the 3550 into the home network is to be able to play about on a regular basis (port monitor, traffic stats, etc).

Home Network :: Router Not Getting IP From Modem?

Feb 12, 2012

so yesterday I went out and bought a new Cisco Linksys E4200v2 router. My ISP is Communicomm (terrible, but they're the only one here). I also have a Terayon TJ 715x cable modem. I shut down pc & cable modem, connected everything, and powered back up. I am able to access the router config page at 192.168.1.1, but the router does not receive an ip address from the modem. If I plug the modem directly to the pc, I get an ip and am able to connect to the internet. I have called my ISP several times, and they tell me that they do not use MAC address filtering. The only MAC address that they need is that of the modem, which they have. This modem has been working fine for several years. After spending over an hour on the phone with Linksys support, they have determined that the router is functioning properly.I also tried hooking up an older netgear router and got the same results. Linksys Wireless Router :: BEFSR41 Removing 2nd Router From Home Network

Nov 12, 2011

My home computer accesses the Internet through an ADSL modem and a phone line. I added a wired router (Linksys BEFSR41).I've since bought a laptop computer, an iPhone4 and a wireless router (Linksys WRT160N).Again, on the advice of a friend, I ADDED the wireless router, so now have two routers connected. The devices are connected as follows:

-Wall jack to ADSL modem
-ADSL modem to BEFSR41
-BEFSR41 to WRT160N
-WRT160N to desktop computer.

As I understand Linksys routers, the default IP address for ALL Linksys routers is 192.168.1.1.Both the iPhone4 and the laptop are unable to connect to the wireless router.I'm assuming the two routers are conflicting with each other, so I thought I would remove the wired router..Can I change the IP address of the BEFSR41 router from 192.168.1.2?

Would this resolve the conflict between the two routers and allow the wireless devices to "see" the wireless router? What's the correct procedure for removing the BEFSR41 router from the system?
