View 1 RepliesI have 5 linux and 3 Microsoft 2008 Servers, each connected to 2 Cisco 3560 Switches. The 2 Cisco 3560 switches are connected to 2 different Cisco 515e Pix. Is it possible that if i enable Port SPAN in any of the switchport and send a copy of traffic to any of the windows 2008 server, will i be able to monitor the bandwidth of the servers (Here I am only looking for traffic going from servers to PIX and then to internet, also vice versa).
Also will wireshark be able to differentiate specify the bandwidth of each servers seperately ?
Is there any way to check how much of the total buffer size is utlized at any given moment out of the total space or memory allocated in Cisco 4500 switch For eg - show logging output is as below for a 4500 switch
Syslog logging: enabled (0 messages dropped, 1 messages rate-limited, 0 flushes, 0 overruns, xml disabled, filtering disabled)
Buffer logging: level debugging, 31644 messages logged, xml disabled, filtering disabled
Exception Logging: size (8192 bytes)
From above is there any command to check hw much size is currently utlized , by 31644 messages ..or how much of the located buffer size is utilized.
I would like to know the various ways by which ISP's verify the various devices connected to their network. I live in a student apart with only 1 ISP. This ISP doesn't like the idea of clients sharing or distributing the same internet line. I purchased a wireless router in order to obtain wireless connectivity in & around my room, especially because i like using wifi on my mobile phone. My ISP then introduced MAC address authentication in order to limit the widespread use of routers, but i later figured that out and simply had to clone my pc's MAC address so that my router could obtain connectivity. But it's been about a month now since my router has lost connectivity. The only way by which i get internet is by directly connecting my pc and entering the appropriate static ip address. All my friends who also use routers in their rooms have also lost internet connection through router. I've been trying to figure out exactly which method he is presently using to authenticate the various devices connected to his network, so that i could use my router to also emulate my pc.

Windows has been updated and the computer is otherwise well-maintained, I being a (usually) proficient pc user. This is on a friend's wireless network, not my own. I won't have access to my own until tomorrow but, anecdotally, I believe the symptoms are similar but a little worse here. Concerning his network, I have been sitting in the same room with two other people connected wirelessly as well to the same network for hours on end and they experience zero noticeable spikes.I've been trying to find a solution using google with no progress.

I have a 2504 controller and 2 2602 access points. I have managed to get them connected ok to the controller. Now I'm in the home stretch here trying to figure out how to authenticate clients to active directory 2003.I have followed a really good guide on setting up the windows 2003 CA server and have got my certificates installed ok on the controller. It looks as though I have to install the client certificate on each client laptop?? Is there a method other than client certificates with active directory?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn our network two Domain Controllers are configured as the central (S)NTP Servers. For a switch in Layer 3 mode it is quit easy to synchronise with these (S)NTP Servers. But what is actually the best approach for access switches in layer 2 mode, that are connected to the layer 3 switch? The only IP Address they have are part of the management VLAN ID 1 which is not routable. I am actually looking for something like a broadcast without having to put a NTP Server in management vLAN.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with the time synchronization via NTP between a Catalyst 2960 and Catalyst 6509. When I configure the 6509 switch as a NTP reference on the 2960, it does not synchronize with the 6509's NTP server. There is no reachability or ACL-related issue between both switches.
As soon as I configure a second Catalyst 6509 (which is completely identical to the other 6509 and in the same subnet) as a NTP server for the 2960, the time sync with the second 6509 happens immediality.
The first 6509 switch works as a NTP reference for at least 50 other switches and routers in the network - so why not for this one more switch? I checked some "debug ntp packet" and "debug ntp events" outputs and can clearly watch the NTP requests going out of the 2960, but on the 6509 just nothing happens - no debug outputs for this specific 2960, while requests from other devices come in all the time.
Maybe you have already experienced this strange behaviour in the past or got some deeper knowledge in the Cisco NTP server implementation. I could think of some sort of "maximum client limit" in the IOS NTP server, but could not find any mechanism like this in the standard NTP specification. Eventually, you can approve that this is a IOS-specific issue.
I have a Cisco Nexus Datacenter solution with this design:Every Nexus 5K is connected with every Nexus 2K with a Port-Channel and vPC.
What is the best way,to keep the configurations of the nexus switches synchronous? I have no DCNM (Mgmt.-Tool).
My problem is if I configure for example a Nexus2K-host port on one Nexus 5K, the change has no effect. Only when I make the same change on the second N5K the port-config really changes.
I have a simple question: In 6500 CatOS, we had that feature of image synchronization, which added the ability to download the image from the active supervisor to the standby via internal TFTP of the CatOS. Can this be done on IOS? I was looking fot this over the Internet and couldn't find anything.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've beating my head against the the above said problem for a quite a while. Our client has a very strict security policy and they require all standard protocol to comply with the expected behaviour. It was discovered that their 3750 switch running c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-25.SEE3 software and configured to sync its time with an external public NTP server triggers IPS signature - DNS Info leak. The problem is that the switch initiates the packet on UDP port 53 and not as I would expect on port 123 for NTP. Of course I can tune the IPS sensor and make it not to fire this signature but the client needs to know why it is happening and if it is faulty IOS software that doesn't comply to the rules.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am currently wanting to make a wired network to save buying a wireless router. The house is unfinished so holes can still be made. I need network modular outlets in 8 rooms, I want to use some type of ethernet cable and connect wire them up to a multi outlet on a wall elsewhere. So I can connect to these without there being loads of wires everywhere. The problem is I don't know which ethernet wire to buy and also I don't know which outlets, tools etc. I need to buy also. I preferably would like the network to have speed of about 1gb. How to wire these and if there is a specific way of wiring them.

(We do not have access to the router or wifi in our dorms for some odd reason). Since this is the case, I want to sometimes bring my laptop onto my bed rather than be constrained to my desk, where the cord is. Is there any way to get some sort of device, like a wireless bridge or router that gets its source from ethernet and I can set up a wireless network?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI got a device (Airave) from my wireless phone carrier (Sprint) that's supposed to boost the Sprint signal that I get in the house (I get no signal inside at all). The Airave is supposed to plug in directly to the DSL modem. The problem is that I only have one outlet on the back of the DSL modem (an older unit, provided by Windstream). Before I screwed it up it was set up as follows: DSL Modem>Linksys Wireless Router>and then connected to the Linksys via ethernet were a desktop computer and a hardwired older Buffalo wireless router (to extend the wireless network), and various wireless devices as needed (smart phones, laptops, Kindle, etc.). So, I purchased an ethernet router (not a switch) to connect to the DSL modem to give me more ports. (There are also 2 LAN ports on the back of the Airave, unused for now.) The current order of devices is DSL Modem>ethernet router>and coming out of the ethernet router are the desktop computer, the wireless router, the Airave, and a spare ethernet cable to hook up to the laptop since the wireless isn't available.
And now the wireless is not working. Everything plugged into the ethernet router works, I can get out to the Web, if I'm hard-wired.So, two questions, really:
1. should I have gotten a switch, and
2. if not, what order should these items be connected to each other? Both the Linksys wireless router and the ethernet router have the same IP address--which may be significant as well.
I could not boot the other day so I spent a few hour pulling everything out and checking memory components, etc.m taking the battery out finally fixed the boot issue but now there is no Internet or network detected or network adapter. It is not the router because pc in the other room is working fine on same connection. Mseems like a CMOS or bios issue. There was a message before boot about reverting to default bios settings. I can't update or remove driver because it is not detected and no Internet.

I have a Netgear wireless router and just set up my wireless network. The only problem is that when I remove the ethernet cable, I lose connection to the internet. My operating system is Vista. In the network connection icon, it shows that I am connected to an unidentified network. Also, on the globe icon it shows that I am connected to the network by local access only. Furthermore, I seem to be missing tabs under the wireless network connection properties section, such as advanced and sharing. I seem to be sending packets but not receiving any.I tried all the basics at this point, including rebooting and powering the modem and router down.
