View 1 Replies View RelatedWe've got Workgroup LAN at our office and the Server is configured by the OS “Windows Server 2008 R2”. Most of the users use OS Windows XP-Service Pack-2. Now, I want to see the Internet surfing status/activities done by any particular user/users at any time from the Server. You know that, some people enter into restricted sites which impose severe negative impact on the network. If I could trace from the Server any user of doing this, I shall block his Internet connection from the Server.

Is there a possible way to prevent a computer or device to connect to the network, without making it obvious? Like to make it seem like there is an issue with the computer. Do not want to hide SSID, or block internet access. I've tried blocking internet access, but it displays on the computer that the internet has been blocked, which makes it obvious.

My roommate has refused to pay her share of the internet and, being a college student, I don't have enough money where I feel generous enough to let her have free internet after stiffing me. Basically, I have 2 routers at the moment (hoping to fix this soon): my Qwest modem works as a router but I also have a Linksys router connected to it. The only phone jack is in her room so I have no way of stopping her from plugging her computer straight into the modem and/or router. I've configured the wireless so that she would be unable to access the, wirelessly but I'd like to know how to prevent her accessing the internet when she plugs her computer directly into either component.

View 13 Replies View RelatedE2000 about a years old.One of the rule is to block internet access from 1am to 4am for certain internal IPs.Working fine until a week ago. Once the time kick in, the E2000 will not route any internet access for any internal IP until the unit is power off and power on reboot. If that rule is disabled. then the E2000 will route all days and nights with no problem.Updated firmware to 1.0.0.4 already.I replaced the WRT45 because of the same problem a year ago. Now just about a year, this E2000 keeps blocking all traffic.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi want to block all internet access on all my computers from the time range of 9 PM to 8 PM. Yes, that gives 1 hour of internet access per day. However, it seems that there are certain rules of the router that won't let me do this. It seems I can't make 2 different policies for PC's within the same IP range (192.168.1.0 to 192.168.1.254) , it gives me the error: "The values you entered are invalid. Please try again."every time I try to do so. And when I try to give the time range from 9 PM to 8 PM it gives an error stating that the end time must be bigger than start time. I am using the WRT54GL with firmware v4.30.7.

The attached settings block facebook as desired during the filter times but after 6:30pm the filter expires and the entire internet is blocked (not just facebook). All of my browsers act as if they are hanging and won't load pages until I disable the filter.
I've also tried creating two different filters (one at a time). The first allowed full internet access all the time and the second allowed access the opposite times of the work filter. But to no avail.
On E4200 Firmware Version: 1.0.03, I managed to successfully set up "Internet Access Policy" (not the "Parental Controls") to set up the times when internet access is disabled for various IPs on my network.
But I could't setup a policy to block facebook.com. What I am doing wrong? See the attached screen shot. I did click the "Edit List" and apply this polity to the IP Address Range 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254.
Why does my E1200 forget my Parental Control Password? This happens almost weekly and I have to use the "forgot password" option. It asks my security question, I answer it and set the new password to the same password it keeps forgetting. Why does this happen? Also, is there anyway to have total 24hr control on the Block Internet Access?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have configured my e4200 to block traffic at certian times uses both the Parental Controls and the Intenet Access Polices. Neither one seems to work though. [code] I have the same MAC addresses specified in each rule. Initally I had only the first two rules. Those didn't work, so I added rule 3 and 4 (they do the same thing as rules 1 and 2 but from the opposite direction). There are no compliaints, but they don't stop any traffic.
I started with the Parental Controls, they didn't work either. The page in there that lets you pick which machines you want to block seemed next to worthless. I have about four rows listed as "Network Device." REALLY LAME! As the MAC addresses are accesible and these weren't working I went to the IAP.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am currently experiencing difficulties setting up a Netgear router (WNR834B). The router I had been using previously allowed me to access the internet, but frequently dropped the connection, especially when I connected to it via my laptop. I have the new router set up correctly (I even get a signal from it) but both the desktop computer I set it up through and my laptop cannot access the internet. When I diagnose the connection issue I get the message "The network adapter "Local Area Connection" does not have a valid IP configuration."
View 14 Replies View Related"Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration", and then we are disconnected from the internet. We both can get back on pretty quickly by using the troubleshoot option on our desktops network button on the taskbar, however we'd like to know how to completely eradicate the disconnects as we both game online. We are using a Telus router which we received around a month ago. My brother is connected wirelessly and I am hardwired in. We are both using Windows 7 with newer PC's (within the past year). Neither of us have a clue about networking so we are totally blanked on what settings to tweak to fix this issue, especially since it's not exclusively wireless or wired-in.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a new Windows 7 laptop which cannot connect to internet through my WRK54G Linksys router. Other laptops can connect through the same router, and the same laptop has connected through other routers. The laptop has it's TCP/IPv6 and TCP/IPv4 internet protocols set to get addresses automaticaly.
ipconfig shows that the IPv6 autoconfiguration address is 169.254.28.183 instead of 192.168.1.XXX. I tried the ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew commands, as recommended by the knowledge base, but got the following error message: No operation can be performed on wireless network connection 2 while it has its media disconnected.
The last few days I had been getting the error that: "Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration" whenever I reboot my computer. I have to power cycle the router before I can get back the internet connection. Checked on the web and tried various solutions which did not work. So I tried using various firmwares for the WRT160N V2 like V2.03 Build 7 and Build 9. Still did not work. Finally reverted back to my old and trusted FW2.02 Build 8. And this seemed to improve the situation. However, the error will still appear from time to time though not as frequently.

The Windows 7 diagnositic on all three computers tells me "Local Area Connection, doesn't have a valid IP configuration."Model: E4200v1..I am using a new E4200 router, along with a new SE1500 5-port switch and a new SE2800 8-port switch.I am using a wired network that consists of two desktop computers, a laptop computer, a network printer, three Direct TV recorders, two Roku streaming video players, a BluRay player, and an XBox gaming console. Here is what I have done so far.
1- I can bypass the router to establish a direct wired connection to the cable modem. This works to access the internet. It establishes a new wired connection called Network 2.
2- I can access the internet using the wireless connection to the router. It shows a valid IPv4 address.
3- With all cables in place, all the lights are flashing on the router and on the computers.
4- I had changed cables and swapped cable ends.
5- Using the wireless connection, I can access the router home page (192.168.1.1). It shows valid IP addresses.

At the moment this is the only laptop in the house that is having problems with connectivity. Starting yesterday, it only connects intermittently. When I run diagnostics, it says the following problems have been fixed but it either solves the problem for a few minutes only or not at all: "Problem with wireless adapter or access point" or "Default gateway is not available".
IPV6 connectivity also shows 'no internet access' and sometimes IPV4 reports no internet. I've unplugged and rebooted the modem and router a few times but that hasn't solved the problem.
Edit: I ran troubleshoot again, and it says the following issue is not fixed: "Wireless Network Connection 2 does not have a valid IP configuration".
I recently was instructed to block Facebook from a specific persons phone. I was able to block access to Facebook from the browser, but this person can still access Facebook via the mobile app. I have already placed m.facebook.com and facebook.com on the "no-go list" on my router, which like I said, specificaly blocks the browser on phone, but not the app. I can't seem to figure out how the app accesses the site and how to block it.I've already done some Googling, and read that port 9339 plays some kind of role. I don't know how true this is, but I tried it anyway, to no avail. I am not to savvy with ports so it could be my error. And before it is mentioned, this person cannot access cell data, as the phone does not get service, only WiFi.

However by using access control on BT it tells you that you have been blocked which is no good as he cannot feign ignorance and pretend he doesn't know what to do (as his kids will pester him to fix it). He therefore wants to block their access more discreetly (as if the internet was generally timing out or messing up instead of actually displaying they have access control). Is there a way to block an individual's access on the router without blocking everybody either on a timer or manually done each time (thus if there isn't a way of automating it he can at least do this manually each time).
