View 1 RepliesCurrently have a Cisco Linksys EA3500 Smart Wi-Fi wireless router. Is there a possible way to prevent a computer or device to connect to the network, without making it obvious? Like to make it seem like there is an issue with the computer. Do not want to hide SSID, or block internet access. I've tried blocking internet access, but it displays on the computer that the internet has been blocked, which makes it obvious.

Now, I want to see the Internet surfing status/activities done by any particular user/users at any time from the Server. You know that, some people enter into restricted sites which impose severe negative impact on the network. If I could trace from the Server any user of doing this, I shall block his Internet connection from the Server.

Is there anyway to block a DDOS attack? I dont know to much about DDOS attacks and how they work, but i think i understand a little bit of it. Is there no way to configure a firewall to detect rapid, spontaneous,continuous amounts of fragmented, random data coming from an IP address? Wouldn't the data coming in from a DDOS server be somewhat distinct from data that flows normally

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to block two URL's over the entire network via my E4200. I'm having a heck of a time doing this, I loginto my router via the browser (the web setup) (because I think Cisco Connect on the Mac is about the worst software ever written.) And I go to the Access Restrictions page. There I understand I'll have to use the Internet Access Policy pane to make some more advanced settings than the Parental Control.
I enter a name for my rule, so far so good. Enable it. Go to the applied PC page. Open the page to enter MAC adresses and IP's. I go to the IP Address Range field and entere in the box numbered 01; 192.168.2.2 to 192.168.2.51 which in my case is the enitre network. Save the setttings and close that window.
I don't set Access Restriction to deny becasue that seems to block the entire network.
So I go the the Website Blocking by URL Address option and enter the URL I want to block.
I don't do anything wiht the the Blocked Applications since I don't want to block a specific service or application. So I click Save Settings.
And yet when I go to the URL I want to block it doesn't work! [URL]

i just bought a sony lcd tv and this model can be controlled by a smartphone via an app called mediaremote. The app should scan the local network and find the tv and than, after pairing, you can use the smartphone as remote controller over Wi-Fi.
My problem is that the router block the network scan and the app can't find the tv; is there somethig i can chack in the configuration or that else to permit the local network scan?
I tried to connect tv and smartphone to the neighbour wifi and the app woks perfect so i'm sure that is a my network problem.
We have WCS and several WLCs (WISMv1, 5508, 4402) all running the 7.0.240.0 code. The "Guest" SSID is "garden-walled" from the corp LANs. We used to have web-auth page that required ID / PW. This became unreasonable as IT Dept was getting requests at all hours for immediate access from guest / resident family memebrs. So we changed the web-auth to remove the the ID / PW and just display corp policy and have to hit a "continue" button to gain access to Guest SSID. Healthcare staff on the floor are not tech-savvy enough to want to use or perform Hotel Ambassador functions.The issue now is that we have employees with smartphones, tablets and even personal laptops conecting the Guest SSID. Sr. Mgt wants to find a way to stop the abuse.I do not believe there is any perfect solution to prevent employees from gaining access, but have been asked to find a manageable method to deter most employees from connecting to the Guest network. Looked at seing up MAC filtering in WCS, it seems that you have to enter MACs that you *allow* on to the network - by default, other MACs are blocked. I would rather have the template block the MACs listed in the csv file and allow access as the default.. We have several SSIDs. Our corporate SSID uses 802.1x and we use Microsoft Server 2012 Network Policy Server (RADIUS) to pass user ID / PW to our AD for authentication. We do not have Cisco ACS. I am not sure if integrating RADIUS is the answer here either. I have had some webex sessions on ISE, NCS, and Prime infrastructure. We are only interested at the moment to monitor / control access to Guest. I have been told that ISE will have "sponsorship" functionality added in soon -- where user fills out info and ID / PW is sent via text or email to a cell phone or other device.

I am attempting to block all FTP traffic on port 21 from the servers in my network, and only allow FTP from one server to go out.
I have created the following ACL
access-list 101 Permit ip any any
access-list 101 Permit 21 1.1.1.1 0.0.0.0 any
access-list 101 Deny 21 any any
and have applied it to my truck VPN that goes up to my firewall
int Vlanxxx
ip access-group 101 out
But when i test ftp is still allowed by all servers.
partition the departmental IP network address block to create a staff and a student subnet. Each of these will be identified by its own network address and netmask. It is university policy that you must be economical with the IP addresses. That is, the subnets must be as small as possible, but they must be large enough to accommodate the maximum number of hosts you were given. Also, it is university policy that the respective gateway router to the outside world should always be given the highest possible host IP address in the subnet. The student subnet should have a higher IP network address than the staff subnet. The network must be able to support up to 60 machines on the staff subnet (not counting the router) and up to 120 machines on the student subnet (also not counting the router).
IP address/netmask
University network address127.158.128.0
University network mask255.255.192.0
University internet gateway IP address127.158.191.254
Department network mask255.255.254.0
Department router address127.158.129.254
Suppose that the network address of the departmental network is 127.158.128.0 (calculated by AND between Dep network mask and Dep router address)I know that 60 machines would use 6 bits for the staff subnet.the netmask of staff would be 255.255.255.192.how can I figure out the the IP network address of the staff subnet.I have worked out the range for the staff subnetwork.
127.158.128.0 - 127.158.128.63
127.158.128.1 = Gateway address
127.158.128.63 = Broadcast address
Now how can I calculate the IP network address of the staff subnet?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer 7750G, running Windows 7,connected to our home network using a Dynex router. At the moment this is the only laptop in the house that is having problems with connectivity. Starting yesterday, it only connects intermittently. When I run diagnostics, it says the following problems have been fixed but it either solves the problem for a few minutes only or not at all: "Problem with wireless adapter or access point" or "Default gateway is not available".
IPV6 connectivity also shows 'no internet access' and sometimes IPV4 reports no internet. I've unplugged and rebooted the modem and router a few times but that hasn't solved the problem.
Edit: I ran troubleshoot again, and it says the following issue is not fixed: "Wireless Network Connection 2 does not have a valid IP configuration".
I use my desktop for streaming media throughout the house. I found it was causing lag for gaming most likely because it was taking up all the bandwidth for the router. We had a 2nd router laying around as well as a 2nd wireless adapter so we set up a 2nd network that was not connected to the internet for strictly media streaming.I attempted to change the network settings so the internet connection appeared as a public network so that streaming of media was hopefully diverted to the non internet wireless adapter.I want a faster way of transferring large video files from my laptop to my desktop. I recently bought a crossover cable to do this through direct connection.Both use the same user name and password as well as run the same win 7 pro however the desktop is the 64 bit version. I set up both ipv4 with the same addresses.When it has worked I am only getting a connection speed of just over 10mb and once I connect the crossover cable between the computers it knocks out my internet connection on the wireless card.
