View 4 RepliesI have a home network that consists of two routers. First I have my cable modem that is connected to an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station. I tend to use that as the 'n' network for my computers so any devices using n networking connect to that.I then have a cable that goes from my Apple Airport Extreme Base Station to a Linksys E3000 router. I tend to use that as my g router and connect many devices that only have g wi-fi to it.Here is the problem:Because of a couple children that have iPod Touches and Macbooks I like to have them connect to the E3000 since it has great website blocking. I wish the Apple Base Station had website blocking but as far as I see it doesn't. Also, this website blocking has worked great since I installed the router but here is the problem. They frequently have to print items and they're unable to print since it won't find the printer.
The printer that I have is connected by Ethernet cable to the Apple Base Station It appears I have two ways of connecting the E3000 router to my Base Station. The way I currently have it connected is the E3000 is connected to the Apple router through the Internet port on the back. By doing this I get full internet and website blocking but I am unable to print through it. Yet if I connect it to the Apple router through one of it's numbered (1-4) ports, I still get internet, I'm able to print, but yet the website blocking does not work.Since the Apple base station doesn't have website blocking as far as I know the only way I can think of getting around this is to replace my Apple Base Station with another E3000 but I don't want to do this unless I have to.
You are responsible for managing and configuring printers and print servers for your organization. You must determine what you can do to increase the performance of your print servers responding to client print requests. What options are likely to improve print server performance?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWe have a new building coming online. It is a layer 3 connection (OSPF) between our core and this building. I have a handful of VLANs configured at this building (using VTP) and I'm having a problem with only 1 of them (the printer VLAN).From the print server (a virtual machine who's host is directly attached to our core switch - a Cisco 6509), I can NOT ping any of the printers at the remote building. But I can ping the gateway for that vlan (which is on the L3 switch/router for the building - a Cisco 3750X).However, if I put a laptop on that vlan at the building, I can ping the print server as well as the other printers.
I ran a traceroute from the print server to the printer's IP address and after hitting the building's router, the requests just started timing out.
I double, triple, and quadruple checked the laptop and printer configurations. In my troubleshooting,I even created a DHCP scope and added the ip helper-address to the interface vlan. My laptop, connected to a switchport on that vlan received the IP address, DNS server info, etc. from the DHCP server (which is on the same vlan as the print server). From my laptop, I could get to all of our internal web servers. I configured the firewall to allow that IP range internet access, and had full internet access on my laptop. But still, I could not ping my laptop or the printers from the print server.
No change in the traceroute.
I then created a vlan interface on the access layer switch (a stack of Cisco 2690Ss) that the printers and my laptop were connected to.From the print server I *could* successfully ping that vlan interface.Traceroute went right to it (3 hops from print server - core switch, router at building, vlan interface on distribution switch). But I could still not ping the laptop or any printers from the print server.
I even wiped out all config related to this vlan - the vlan interfaces on the distribution switch and the L3 switch, deleted the vlan itself, the router network statement, etc. Then rebuilt it all over again.Same results. I've compared every line of config for this vlan to other vlans where this problem is NOT occurring and can find no difference.

We have a Server 2008 R2 print server that handles all printing for our mixed windows domain. I am trying to install 64 bit drivers so that our newer 64 bit clients can simply double click on the printer to add it to their list of printers.
According to what I'm reading online, I'm supposed to go into the printer's properties. Click Sharing, then click additional drivers. Makes sense. I select the x64 for the processor type (x86 is checked by default and will not uncheck).
At this point it wants me to locate the drivers. I point it to the HP drivers that I have downloaded for 64 bit processors and hit ok but it tells me "The specified location does not contain the driver HP laserjet 4250 PCL 5 for the requested processor architecture." Which it does, although it is PCL 5e rather than PCL 5.
I also have read that the drivers need to have the same name. I assume this means within the INI file. I've tried to change all the locations to read PCL 5 instead of PCL 5e but it gives another error instead. "Windows cannot locate a suitable printer driver. Contact your administrator."
My DIR-655 is setup and working fine with WPA personal encryption to different laptops in my home network. Question: Can I connect a wireless print server (LinkSys WPS54GU2) that only supports 'G' wireless encryption? Can the DIR-655 support a mixed N and G network?Do I have to reconfigure my DIR-655 to the slower WEP encryption and create an entirely 'G' network to include one G network device?

I've set up my printer (HP PSC 2410) to the router using TL-WDR3600_V1.0_USB Print Service Client Setup and that part's fine. The USB Printer Controller sees the printer as an "auto-connected printer" and I can select the printer as my default to print to. My problem lies with the fact that every time I try to print something, it causes a BSOD. I'm using Windows 8 and checked to make sure the USB Print Service Client Setup program was compatible with Windows 8 before I attempted anything. The HP PSC 2410 printer is on the Print Server Compatibility list so I don't know why I'm having problems.
The error I get each time I try to print is: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (TplinkUDSTcpBus.sys). One of the draws of this router was that I could hook up my printer via USB and print wirelessly

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been having trouble printing from my laptop computer and desktop computer. I have installed and reinstalled the print drivers on both computers. Although odd, after removing the printer from printers and devices, it always reappears and has an exclamation mark on it. I have reset the home network router, the print server, and restarted multifunction printer devices several times. On occasion, after resetting the network, the printer will print something that was backlogged in my print que many sessions ago. To get a better picture of my current network, it's current set up is as follows: My home wireless router is a Dlink- DIR -655. I have the laptop and desktop connected to the wireless router via ethernet cable. The print server is a Dlink dpr-1260, connected to the printer via usb. The print server is connected to the wireless router via ethernet cable. The desktop is running windows vista and the laptop is running windows 7. I am able to successfully login to the print server through my network at its IP address. From there I run the print wizard and successfully download and install the print drivers. I click yes to confirm print test page. Soon thereafter, a message pops up saying "This program may not have installed correctly."
I am beginning to lose patience as this has been an ongoing problem for a few months now. I do not know where to begin or what to replace. It seems as though when I attempt to install or reconfigure a computer from the network, the printer and associated devices begin having issues. So once again I am running laptop windows 7 with service pack 1 64-bit; windows vista desktop; DIR-655; DPR-1260; and Brother MFC-8440.Everything is connected via ethernet. I am running avg antivirus software and comodo firewall on both computers.
I have a Ricoh printer hiding on a Dlink DIR-655 with a 192.168.10.101 address. This gateways to 192.168.1.1, which is a Westell DSL modem. I need to allow wireless accounts on the Westell modem to communicate with, and only with, the Ricoh printer.
