My laptop connects wirelessly via router to RoadRunner/internet and work well.I want to physically (ethernet) connect my laptop (via it's docking station) to a print server and then in turn to a printer."link" light is on, on print server however "pinging" 192.168.0.10 (factory default) fails.
View 9 RepliesWe have a new building coming online. It is a layer 3 connection (OSPF) between our core and this building. I have a handful of VLANs configured at this building (using VTP) and I'm having a problem with only 1 of them (the printer VLAN).From the print server (a virtual machine who's host is directly attached to our core switch - a Cisco 6509), I can NOT ping any of the printers at the remote building. But I can ping the gateway for that vlan (which is on the L3 switch/router for the building - a Cisco 3750X).However, if I put a laptop on that vlan at the building, I can ping the print server as well as the other printers.
I ran a traceroute from the print server to the printer's IP address and after hitting the building's router, the requests just started timing out.
I double, triple, and quadruple checked the laptop and printer configurations. In my troubleshooting,I even created a DHCP scope and added the ip helper-address to the interface vlan. My laptop, connected to a switchport on that vlan received the IP address, DNS server info, etc. from the DHCP server (which is on the same vlan as the print server). From my laptop, I could get to all of our internal web servers. I configured the firewall to allow that IP range internet access, and had full internet access on my laptop.But still, I could not ping my laptop or the printers from the print server.
No change in the traceroute.
I then created a vlan interface on the access layer switch (a stack of Cisco 2690Ss) that the printers and my laptop were connected to.From the print server I *could* successfully ping that vlan interface.Traceroute went right to it (3 hops from print server - core switch, router at building, vlan interface on distribution switch).But I could still not ping the laptop or any printers from the print server.
I even wiped out all config related to this vlan - the vlan interfaces on the distribution switch and the L3 switch, deleted the vlan itself, the router network statement, etc. Then rebuilt it all over again.Same results. I've compared every line of config for this vlan to other vlans where this problem is NOT occurring and can find no difference.
Trying to connect one computer to the internet using a USB Verizon Pantech modem and at the same time connect to printer wirelessly through a Linksys router. We are able to connect to one or the other and can print when connected to the home network or we can surf when connected to the Pantech. We can connect to both networks at the same time, but when we do we can neither print or surf.. It cannot find the printer and does not access the internet at all. Is it possible to do this without buying additional hardware

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased an Epson XP-205 Wi-Fi printer, and I set it up on my network and installed the drivers to my laptop, initially I could print over the network, but since a restart I can't. I have tried an uninstall and reinstall of the printer, but to no avail and if it matters, I'm running W7 64-bit.
I've ensured the printing programs are part of my firewall exclusion rules, and I can access the printers set up page via 192.168.1.3, also as expected, the printer is "pingable". On top of this my Android tablet is able to send things to the printer, so I'm sure it is an issue with my laptop.
My environment has a Cisco 3560G switch which does DHCP with a VLAN for wireless clients, connected to this switch is a Cisco WLC4402 to manage all wireless access points which are Cisco 1130 and 1140 series. We recently purchased an HP LaserJet pro CP1525nw color printer which we have connected with an Ethernet cable to the Cisco switch on a port in the same VLAN as the wireless clients. The printer will pick up a valid IP address from the switch and if I connect a laptop with an Ethernet cable to the switch I can ping the IP of the printer and print to it once I install the driver, if I unplug the laptop from the switch and go over the wireless my laptop gets an IP in the same range as the printer and I can ping the printer IP address as well as open the web interface for the printer but cannot print, once I open the print queue on my laptop I see error printing and nothing prints out. I always add the printer as an IP port and supply the IP address when I install the driver to test. I have also gone through the manual for the WLC4402 but did not find anything for printing. There has to be a setting on the controller that is preventing me from printing but I don't know what it could be. On the laptop I use to test I also installed LPR and LPD and I even tried using another printer that I know works fine in its place and still could not print, so I don't think it's the printer.

The DIR 655 sees the DP-G310 but it won't assign it an IP address. I am trying to get the print server functionality working but no luck. I have a Brother HL-2030 and I know that it is not in the compatibility list. But the HL-2040 is, and the differences between the two are minimal. However, the TP-Link printer utility does not see the printer and the network scanner function is grayed out.

We have a Server 2008 R2 print server that handles all printing for our mixed windows domain. I am trying to install 64 bit drivers so that our newer 64 bit clients can simply double click on the printer to add it to their list of printers.
According to what I'm reading online, I'm supposed to go into the printer's properties. Click Sharing, then click additional drivers. Makes sense. I select the x64 for the processor type (x86 is checked by default and will not uncheck).
At this point it wants me to locate the drivers. I point it to the HP drivers that I have downloaded for 64 bit processors and hit ok but it tells me "The specified location does not contain the driver HP laserjet 4250 PCL 5 for the requested processor architecture." Which it does, although it is PCL 5e rather than PCL 5.
I also have read that the drivers need to have the same name. I assume this means within the INI file. I've tried to change all the locations to read PCL 5 instead of PCL 5e but it gives another error instead. "Windows cannot locate a suitable printer driver. Contact your administrator."
My DIR-655 is setup and working fine with WPA personal encryption to different laptops in my home network. Question: Can I connect a wireless print server (LinkSys WPS54GU2) that only supports 'G' wireless encryption? Can the DIR-655 support a mixed N and G network?Do I have to reconfigure my DIR-655 to the slower WEP encryption and create an entirely 'G' network to include one G network device?
