Intermittent Wireless Connection From Router?
Jan 24, 2013
I am using this wireless router for connection to internet:http:/[url]...The problem is that in most of the time the router works without a problem then suddenly without doing anything from my side the internet connection starts intermittent and then I can’t event connect to the router. This is a screenshot of pinging the router when the problem occurs.

My router has been dropping the internet connection for years. The ethernet connection to the desktop works fine all the time. The problem is only with the wireless connection. About every 1/2 hour or so the router will drop the wireless connection and neither or my 2 laptops can find the network. Unplugging the router and replugging it in solves the problem temporarily, until it drops it again. I updated the firmware to 1.0.4 and that yielded no changes.
Router: WRT54G2 v.1 Modem: Siemens Speedster 4100 (part #060-D141-A12) My two laptops running wirelessly are Macs. The desktop is PC running Windows Vista.

Bought an E4200 to replace my Netwgear router and am experiencing the following problem. One of my wireless boxes serves as mu mail server. I've been running this configuration for years so the only thing that has changed is the router. The neworkd is up and all wireless clients can connect, but after some time, access to the mail server just 'freezes'. I say freezes as the nework icon (i'm using ubuntu' still show a connection. In addtion, there are not error in any of the logs. I just seems that the mail server and the router just stopped communication.

I recently upgraded my Linksys wrt120n router firmware & had to reconfigure settings. Subsequently, some (but not all) of my apple devices are having intermittent wireless connection problems. Specifically, my ipad1 & ipad2 never lose their connection but a mac book pro (~ 2 years old), iPhone 3g, iPhone 4, older iPod touch & very old i book g4 all work for a period of time (usually 1/2 day) & then lose their connection. When I attempt to reconnect these devices I receive the following error..."unable to join the network xxxxxx....". I also have a Dell laptop (1 1/2 yrs old) that generally does not have the connection problem. Finally, when the devices do lose their network connection all I have to do to reconnect is go to the Linkys router setup webpage & click on save & the wireless connection works again (almost like this is just refreshing the connection for these specific apple devices). I was not having any problem prior to the firmware upgrade & from what I have read the older firmware version is no longer available so going back to the old firmware does not appear to be an option.

I have a Compaq with XP wired on a Network with a Belkin N600 Router. There are 5 computers on the Network, (4 wired, one wireless) and this is the only computer that I have problems with connectivity. It connects to the Belkin through 2 switches.Typically when I turn the system on it connects, downloads mail, etc. After a short period of time there is no connectivity to the network for printing nor the internet.I may get connectivity randomly again after a while, but you never know if or when you will get connectivity again for sure. I am using Explorer.I had loaded some Belkin software with no luck so I uninstalled it. The other computers have no special software for the router.

I've been running into an issue for the past week or so where my wireless adapter intermittently can't contact my router. When it occurs the network connection reads as having limited connectivity. I'm unable to send requests to load webpages, and videos and the like stop loading. Sometimes the network disconnects entirely. After this occurs, I can't connect again for a few minutes. My connection consistently reads as having 2-3 bars available. The issue tends to occur frequently, often every 15 minutes or so. Strangely enough, I have been able to play bf3 online for over 40 minutes without connection problems (I quit before any occurred - not sure if any would have). So far I've tried the windows troubleshooter, updating the driver to my wireless networking adapter, manually assigning my network address (tried 192.168.1.4, 192.168.1.5, etc), setting my 802.11b preamble to "Long only" and performing a system restore. I have rebooted my machine as well.
My technical specs are as follows:I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate N 64 bit edition with service pack 1. System has 8gb Ram, an i5-3570k processor and HD7850 graphics card. Motherboard is the Asrock Z77 extreme 4. My wireless network adapter is the TP-link TL-WN722N. The adapter was working fine for some time before this issue appeared. My router is an old U.S. Robotics Wireless MaxG Router. It seems to work fine with other computers in the household, although it does require fairly frequent power-cycling. Running ipconfig on the command prompt while the internet is working returns:

I have a Cisco 1242 AG wireless access point with the goal of having multiple SSIDs. I set up one network which broadcasts correctly but only sometimes can I connect to it.
And, even if I connect to the network, I cannot get a DHCP address for the client.Other devices connected (but not through this Access Point) to the associated VLAN 60 can get a DHCP address and connect just fine. Here is the configuration for the Cisco 1242 AG access point in question: [code]
Lastly, here is the information on VLAN 60 from the distribution switch. As mentioned, other devices connect to this VLAN and get IP addresses just fine.

I have a brand new DAP-1522 A1 connected to an 802.11n wireless LAN in bridge mode. Running in the 2.4GHz band with WPK-2 and AES security/encryption.Everything runs fine 99% of the time, but once a day or so the wireless LAN connection on the DAP-1522 drops and then takes about two minutes to re-connect. It re-connects and then everything is fine for a day or so until the next dropped wireless connection episode on the DAP-1522. I know my 802.11n wireless network is 100% fine as during the dropped connection to the DAP-1522 I can connect directly to the 802.11n wireless network (running from my gateway/router) using my other computer, no issues.I've seen some posts on this forum that the A1 version of the DAP-1522 hardware is not 100% compatible with the 802.11n network standard and there will be intermittent wireless drops. If this is true, it's just insane. All I can say is I can't believe DLink would allow a product to be sold that won't work properly on 802.11n networks.I check the logs each time I see the dropped wireless connection and all that shows is the following.1) Negotiating connection 2) 4-way handshake success [mac address]There's no message in the logs about why the wireless connection dropped, but I assume it has something to do with re-newing a key for the wireless network as the successful key renewal messages are the only other messages in the log. When the wireless network dropped I don't see the successful key renewal message at the time I should see it.I thought this DAP-1522 would take 15 minutes to configure in bridge mode and then I'd forget about it. Spend too much time on this already, so a bit disappointed with this DAP-1522 and DLink tech support....though when it's connected to the 802.11n wireless LAN it works fine.

My laptop is connected to an Internet cable inside my apartment building for access to a free Internet service provided by the building management. The high speed cable service works okay for a few days but then after say 4 or 5 days it starts to slow down and then on the 6th or 7 day I can no longer connect using the cable. The technician in my building doesnt speak such good English and claims it is a software problem in Windows itself in my laptop ,but I don't know what would cause the software to trigger this condition? The last time the technician told me to go through some steps but I have to admit I have forgotten the very last ones in the " procedure " and how to complete the final steps of the procedure :-
He said to :-
1. Right click on the computer icon on the desktop
2. click on device manager
2. click on " network adapters " these are shown as being " Atheros AR8152/8158 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller ( NDIS 6.20 ) and secondly " Realtek RTL8188CE Wireless LAN 802.11 PCI-E NIC "
4. After that he told me to " refresh " the connection but I have forgotten how to do so?The wireless connection is working okay but I have noticed once this fault happens to the cable connection, the wireless connection doesn't work either until I unplug the cable. Then I can connect to the wireless Internet connection. But if I leave the cable in then neither the cable or the wireless works?

Im currently experiencing an intermittent connection on my office and we just upgraded from 4Mbps to 10Mbps. Latency is high when pinging commercial website like yahoo.com,it shoots up to 200sec. ISP router is connected to two HP Procurve Switch, then the workstation and servers. Already did a router/modem test and it failed, I advise our ISP to change the router but it were still experiencing the same problem. Network drop is also experience even after office hours, eventhough only few workstations are working.

I work in a small school and recently we started to have a problem with browsing the internet. We don't have an 'IT Department' as such as I'm the closest thing to it.When a browser is opened it will not connect to the homepage, or if it does its generally from cache, instead an error message about not being able to connect to server will appear. Now if you hit refresh you might or might not connect to the webpage in question but you can gurantee that it will take a long time to make that connection even on an undemanding site like wikipedia. The odd thing is that when connected to a speed checker it gives no surprising results, speed is normal. Also when downloading a file or the latest linux live distribution torrent I can achieve maximum speeds available to us.We use a selecction of Macs & PCs mostly connecting through ethernet cabling although connecting wirelessly is no different. We use BT 2Wire 2700HGV Business Hubs. I can't think of any changes our end that have happened to cause this and our internal network connections run just fine. I have tried pinging from the command line and it looks ok to my limited expertise, no lost packets.

I've been having a problem for a while now wherein my internet connection seems to randomly drop for anywhere from ten seconds to a minute, then come back online. It's been doing this over the lifespan of one router, and continued into the life of this new one I have, which is a WNDR3700v3 Netgear.
I called my ISP and they fiddled around with things on my computer, but the issue is still going on. Rather than slog through another three hours with them, does anyone here have any tips for what I might look into for the cause?

I was previously with sky and never faced any bother with my wireless broadband. Recently to my regret we moved broadband (amongst other utilities)to Utility Warehouse (UTW) who's broadband is through Telecom Plus. Anyway since joining with them I have had no end of bother with intermittent internet connection. Sometimes we get a stationary green broadband light then after a little while then we get a flashing green broadband light. We are constantly either pin resetting the router or switching it on and off at the rear, where it will work for a small amount of time then connection is lost again. The router that they have given us is a technicolor tg582n Pro. We have had two of these as originally we thought that the router could be faulty but obviously that is not the problem as even the second one is dropping our connection. We bought another filter incase that was the problem and even tried plugging router directly into phone box and still didnt work. Utility Warehouse have been about as much use as a chocolate teapot and we are so <unhappy> that we are paying for a service that does not work? They said that our cordless phones could be interfering with the signal? Is this maybe the case and the phones are running on same channel as router thus causing interference? We had these same phones when we with sky and they never caused interference with our broadband. I was going to try connecting my laptop via ethernet cable to router. Sometimes the landline crackles (since UTW installed a new landline & new tel number) so it could even be that? UTW will not send an enginneer out to check their line. we are at our wits end, about to cancel their broadband and go back to reliable sky.

I have a Dell Inspiron desktop with Dell Wireless 1506 802.11b/g/n card. This PC is fairly new - purchased in October 2012. Most of the time the wireless connection is fine, although the signal is weaker than it should be (about 2 bars). Occasionally however the wireless signal drops to one bar or less, or is completely lost. The result is loss of internet connection. Restarting the PC will often restore the connection, although the signal level remains low. This is very surprising as other 802.11b/g laptops and PCs, sitting on the same desk in the same room, will show a strong wireless signal of 4-5 bars. I have measured the wireless network strength in that room using a laptop with inSSIDer and it seems just fine. So I don't believe the problem is in the wifi signal strength.
The wireless access point is a Motorola surfboard b/g cable modem that is located about 25 feet from the Dell PC. That cable modem is reporting excellent signal levels on the coaxial cable to the street, so the problem is not in the access point. Connection speed when tested from other PCs/laptops on that network is just fine.
I am wondering if there is some sort of intermittent hardware problem in the Dell wireless adapter that might be causing this problem. Or some sort of software conflict.

I have an intermittent issue happening on my company's firewall, and I'm at a loss as to how to troubleshoot further.
We recently made some changes to our network, which included moving an ASA 5505 from one location to another. In moving this we also connected it to a different switch. It used to hang off a Cisco 3560, and now it hangs off a ProCurve 5406zl.
The setup is that the ASA is connected on two ports to the HP, which is simply a layer 2 device sitting between the firewall and the uplink to our ISP. One port, e0/0, is the outside interface and is set to switchport access vlan 2. The second interface, e0/1, is set for vlan 1, also access mode. It has an IP of 10.0.0.2. The HP on the other end of that has an IP of 10.0.0.1. So outside VPN connections come through the HP to the ASA on e0/0, and back out the ASA on port e0/1 to reach devices on the internal network.
What happens is that when a user connects to the VPN, they can reach internal resources intermittently. For example, I tried to ping an internal server IP address (let's say 10.0.0.23) from my laptop, while on the VPN, and pings failed. However I could ping that IP from the ASA itself. Another example is that during one VPN connection I was unable to connect to an internal web server, but once I disconnected and connected ahain I could reach the server fine.
The intermittent nature of the problem made me think that it could be an ARP issue, that somehow the traffic is getting sent back out the wrong interface sometimes, hence the lack of communication. However when I did show switch mac-address | include mac address, using the base mac of the HP, I only saw the mac address of the HP on one interface, e0/1. That makes me think that things are working as they should. Although I guess maybe it should appear on both interfaces...? I don't know. How I can most effectively troubleshoot this? It seems like the symptoms are indicative of some kind of rookie mistake, but for the life of me I can't figure out what it is.

I'm being kicked off my VPN connection back to the home office on occasion, using a Nortel VPN client. The logs show:
4/2/2013 9:58:26.883 [ENGS] -I-VerifyServerIsAlive: ISAKMP had traffic (after keepalive).
4/2/2013 9:58:27.383 [ENGS] -I-VerifyServerIsAlive: Set receivedData FALSE.

4/2/2013 9:58:44.586 [ENGS] -I-Protocol not recognized - message dropped.
[code]....
the common fault seems to be DynamicDnsCleanup causing the trouble.(causes routing table to change, knocking down the VPN....) Is this a function occurring in the router? I can't find search results showing so.

I am having wireless connection/internet issues that are irritating me to the core!!! I have called tech support 4 times now, and I still can't get everything to play nice...I have the 655 set up as a wireless router to a Windows 7 laptop, one iPad, two iTouches, and one N3DS. I can't find a setting that will work with all devices. Here are the senarios...
1) Settings: Wireless enabled, 802.11n only, Auto Scan off-channel set to 1, Best Transmission rate, Channel Width Auto 20/40, Visible, Auto WPA Mode with AES Cipher and a pre-share key. This yields fantastic results with my laptop, it can stream video for entire episodes, and I have no problems with loading webpages in either IE or Firefox. However, it does not support the kids iTouches or N3DS.
2) Changed the above to mixed 802.11n/g AND ALSO tried 802.11 only: iTouches work and can connect to the internet, but laptop doesn't like it. I get "Problem loading webpage" every other time I access and website, and streaming stop every 5-6 minutes. Bars indicate wireless signal is strong, but intermittently get that yellow triangle.

I have a WRT120N router set up with WPA2 security and set to channel 11. Everything is connected via the router (one wired computer, up to a max of 5 laptops but just 2-3 on a regular basis, a wired xbox360, wireless wii and a few cell phones occasionally connect wirelessly). Everything has been working great, been getting at or very close to the 6mbps we are supposed to be getting...until the past 2 weeks. Suddenly the connection drops repeatedly throughout the night. It either shows local only or just "limited connectivity". Normally when this happens my laptop will pick the signal back up when things are normal but I am actually having to disconnect and reconnect for it to work again. It happens again in about 30 min to an hour after that. Also, our connection speeds are showing at .5 - 1.5 instead of 6. I plugged the cable modem (the 660 series sent out by sprint/embarq/century link (or whatever name they are going by today lol) into the computer directly and got 5.7mbps. I have tried power cycles of both pieces of equipment but that doesnt work.

I have been having a problem with my router for the past two weeks and my ISP (RCN) has done nothing to fix it so maybe with our nerd power combined we can find a solution! My router runs fine about 60% of the time, I get 20-24Mbps down and 2Mbps up connect wirelessly. the other 40% of the time the download speed suddenly drops to 1.5-2Mbps down and 1Mbps up. There is nothing in particular that I will be doing at the moment it just suddenly dies.Things I have done that have not worked.I have changed my channel to 1,6,and 11.Updated firmware.Factory Reset (New broadcast name/password).Set up static IPs.I have tried disabling WMM Support and this just kills any connection wirelessly to the router. Is there anything else you can think of to fix the issue, or should I just be demanding a new router the next time they come

I currently configured a site-to-site vpn connection in one of our client. Configuration is fine and site-to-site connection is working properly. We noticed that when the tunnel is idle the site-to-site connection between these two branches is disconnected.
We need to ping the other site in order to re-establish the connection and perform a continuous ping in order to keep the tunnel active. Any way to keep the tunnel active even though there are no activity running on both sites and even without pinging continuously.

I have been having trouble with my DSL-2730B router. I am running a home network with a wired desktop connected via ethernet, two laptops, one desktop and three ipods connected wirelessly to the router. The problem is that at seemingly random times during the day the ability to connect to the internet is lost on all devices (wired or no). I also often lose the ability to connect to the router's homepage (settings) and upon inspection have found that when I ping the router I get time-outs (or sometimes destination host unreachable). This occurs on both wired and wireless at the same time and usually lasts anywhere from 10seconds to 10minutes at a time. I have reset the router numerous times including a reset via the web browser, unplugging the router and reconnecting and also have done a factory reset to attempt to solve the problem - all to no avail. As I am writing this I am using a different older router that so far (as of an hour) has not had the same issues.I should also mention that this happens regardless of which devices are currently on the network. I have had this problem with the wired-connection by itself and with my wireless laptop by itself.

I have 2 WAP4400Ns that were manufactured in July 2007. I've experienced some problems with dropped connections even with a strong signal over the years but recently, I've had long stretches where I cannot connect wirelessly to either unit. It works for a few hours then can't connect for half the day. I have no problem connecting to their admin pages over the LAN, just wirelessly. I look at the units and the power light is steady green while the Ethernet and wireless lights flicker rapidly. This looks no different when I can connect and when I can't. Connectivity doesn't depend on location; I can put my laptop right next to one of the units when they are malfunctioning and still can't connect. I tried changing the broadcast channel but it seems to have no effect. I rentered the WEP key that I have used for years and it doesn't have any effect. Settings are pretty much factory except for changing the IP address of one of them (so they can be in the same LAN) and customizing the SSIDs and security keys.

Region : Malaysia
Model : TL-WDR4300
Hardware Version : V1
Firmware Version : TL-WDR4300_V1_121226(Unifi)
ISP : Unifi
Recently my router have been experiencing an issue with internet connectivity with Unifi.I will be able to connect to Unifi, the status is "Connected". However after some time though, like 5 - 10 mins, I will be no longer able to browser any pages or get disconnected from online games. Checking through ping tests, I can see that I am unable to get a response. Checking the router shows that I am still connected to Unifi. After a minute or so the connectivity is restored, but the issue happens again as before. This happens with both wireless and cable. Attached is a sample of the ping test result.
Things I have tried:
Updating the firmware to the latest version
Re-configuring the modem
Re-setting the Unif credentials in the router
Downgrading the firmware

We are experiencing problems with Apple Ipads on a large scale network that we install and maintain, the Ipads seem to join the network with no problems (bit slower than laptops etc) but will then disconnect for no apparent reason at random intervals. We have ran laptops on the same AP's and in the same area and no similar probems occurred, we are using IOS Cisco 1041's and 1042's, we have seen one of the Ipads's sitting quite happily on a 1042 2,4ghz radio and then it disconnected and went to the 5ghz radio. We are getting similar disconnects on the single radio 1041.

I saw some other mentions online of intermittent internet connectivity using the factory-installed Intel Centrino wireless-N 1030 card on various new Dell computers running Windows 7, but didn't see any resolution to the problem.
I can connect directly to my router via an ethernet cord, but trying to use the wireless card gives me intermittent connectivity. I will pretty quickly lose the ability to load a new page if I'm browsing with IE or Firefox, and can regain it (temporarily) by disconnecting/reconnecting or letting the wireless manager troubleshoot, during which it resets the wireless adaptor. Doing a continuous ping of my router gives me anywhere from 30-70% data loss and lengthy round trips (I am currently one foot away from the router). Other (ancient!) computers work fine on my router; I have updated the router's firmware/reset it many times, etc). I didn't specifically go download a new driver for the wireless card, but going into its properties and having it search for an updated driver results in it reporting it already has the most up-to-date driver.
I spent a lot of late nights talking to Dell support, and their eventual fix (after a complete reinstall from the factory setting partition) was to set up my home network as a WEP, which I'm not happy with due to it's poor security compared to WPA2/WPA. This appeared to resolve the connectivity issue (why??). But I feel like I should be able to use WPA2 security with a brand-new laptop. So I changed it back to WPA2/WPA and tried installing all the critical updates that Windows Update could find, including SP1, and then looked at some continuous pings of various webpages and of my router itself.
Then I noticed my ping round trip time was awesome and they were 100% successful while my computer was plugged in with the power cord, but this unfailingly changed to reporting unsuccessful pings and having 1000ms round trips as soon as I disconnect the power. Seems like the on-battery power settings are starving the wireless card?
Also, I'm sure my initial intermittent connectivity (before the complete OS reinstall) was still occurring while plugged in with the power cord, so I'm not sure if the reinstall fixed some aspect of the problem, or whether the appearance of success while plugged in now is just temporary. Perhaps my card is just bad and I need a new one? I'm using the factory default power settings and the factory-installed wireless card (and I couldn't choose a different wireless card when I built my laptop)
