As i was searching for a vender to provide the cables needed for a job i have ran into OM2 & OM3 fiber patch cords. Besides the color difference, is OM3 the new revolutionary cable type being used now and days? The specs i have seen between the 2 are quite similar, both are 50 microns

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen it comes to fiber optics my knowledge is very limited. All I know is that they can carry data at high bandwidth for a long range at blazing speeds etc.My boss has asked me to link several buildings to the network and I am led to believe that joining them through fiber optics to be best since we are expecting a lot of data traffic between.I have done the normal RJ-45 networking with Gigabit networking in my organisation but need your assistance on how to join each of the buildings through fibre optics.Draw up the fiber optic lines from the main building to each building. All the buildings have Gigabit Cat6e cabling and network in each.I am planning on using a single mode media converter to convert the end of the fibre optic to the normal RJ45 connector and plug it to each switch at each of the ends of the fiber optic cable .I don't even know the gadgematics required except for the cables them selves, crimping tools, the media converter. There is about 300-400 metres in between of each building from the main building. Also, I believe that we need to create cross over cables as in the normal way we do in connecting 2 switches.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWe're planning to install 24 strand singlemode fiber optic cable in three ocations. What is the best way to run the cables between the 3 locations. Location 1 is in the south, 2 is in the middle and 3 is in the north pretty much in a straight line.Should we run one fiber optic cable from location 1 to location 2 and another fiber optic cable from location 1 to location 3 or is there a better way? Maybe we can run from 1 to 2, 2 to 3 so that location 2 acts like a hub.Is there a way to just run one fiber optic cable from location 1 to 3 and along the way somehow splice that cable to go to location 2

The problem keeps emerging although I upgraded the firmware from 1.10 to 1.17.In details, almost once every day it keeps losing the settings, and although is is connected (I can browse web pages) the internet light is off, and in the admin page I can't see any settings at all. The language settings are lost, the wireless seems to be enabled, the connection settings don't show up, I can't see username/password/ip/dns and all my security restriciotns are lost. And i can't restore them until i reboot the modem, in which case everything is back like nothing has happened.

I'm using a CISCO WAG54G2 router. After attempting VPN access I have to re-boot router to establish broadband connection. I have checked Plusnet (ISP) firewall settings as okay (LOW). I have found two CISCO links which describe a similar(?) issue:

I reviewed my router's Single Port Forwarding parameter settings in light of info in these links. I then added three new ones: VPN, VPN1, and VPN2 VPN; Internal Port:500; External Port 500; Protocol:UDP; IP:192.168.1.47; Enabled Yes VPN1; Internal Port:4500; External Port 4500; Protocol:UDP; IP:192.168.1.50; Enabled Yes VPN2; Internal Port:10000; External Port 10000; Protocol:UDP; IP:192.168.1.51; Enabled Yes
These changes have not worked but I not yet removed them. My company uses 'Delta VPN' product. No other changes to parameters have been made before or after.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI happened to update firmware version of my WAG54G2 to the latest version 1.xx.xx.19. Since then connection to internet has became erratic. If rebooted, the device mostly doesn't connect. Switching to PPPoE from PPPoA and vice versa works but i have to do it every time the device is rebooted. Sometimes even that doesn't work. Basically it acts random. DSL connection shows as connected, but the internet interface is mostly down. I was wondering if i can switch back to to old 1.xx.xx.10 version. It never gave me any trouble ever for around 2 years.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy internet connection seems to drop a lot, I'm using a WAG54G2 modem connecting via a wired connection; and my ISP is Iprimus and I'm running off an Adsl2+ connection. The light on the modem that goes out when I lose connection is usually the internet although sometimes it is the DSL light, when my connection drops out I also seem to lose speed when I reconnect, which I was able to fix by pulling the power plug out and putting it back in but it no longer works as often.
The top speed I have measured via 9url]... has been 350 kb/s and the lowest has been 12 kb/s.My phone line also has a loud crackly sound which goes away when I unplug my modem from the line.I used to be able to unplug my phone line to keep the connection up but that no longer works.
This problem is not consistent as I will have days when it is bad (slow connection speed and constant connection dropping) and days when it is alright (decent connection speed and hardly or no connection dropping).I am also running a few filters for my phone, I've tried taking the filters out but that doesn't fix it, I've tried unplugging the phone which used to work as I mentioned before but no longer does. Before I bought this modem I can't remember what I was using but that had history with locking out the connection which by replacing the modem fixed my bad connection for a 5-7 months.
I have two LAN networks. Both using LINKSYS WAG54G2 Wireless + Gateway. I can create a VPN tunnel between the two networks to connect them. But since the data will be transferred over the internet, I want to know how safe it is. Is there anyway i can make it more secure?
