I correct in understanding that when an external hd is connected to the e3000 via usb, that i can read and write to it, but i cannot delete files from the external drive? i have been trying to figure this out for a while and cannot delete files after i write them.
View 3 RepliesI moved to Comcast internet yesterday (from 3Mbps DSL), and the E4200 seems to be working well (although somewhere along the way it decided to delete all the files on the NAS drive...an issue for another day). On my laptops and wired PCs I'm now seeing 15-20Mbps down, and 4Mbps up. However, when I connect with my iPhone 3GS, I only see about 7.5Mbps down, and 4Mbps up using online speedtests. I have tried messing with the router settings and resetting all the network settings on the iPhone but nothing changes. I know my iPhone can handle more, because I get 15Mbps down when I visit family (they have a Netgear N300). I can only conclude that my E4200 is the cause.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently copied files to my hard drive that was connected directly to my computer (via USB).When I connected the disk back to E3000 the files were missing. I connected it back to PC directly and verified the files are there.My PC runs Windows 7 Enterprise.Why can't I see files copied via local connection when I connect the disk to E3000.I carefully compared the permissions with files that I can see just fine and there is no difference - same permissions, same owner.I also get all kinds of permission errors when I try to delete a files from the network drive.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just installed this router and connected the hard drive (Western Digital 1TB) which worked fine at first. When I moved some movie files to another folder they lost all of their data. The file names are still present, but all the media files show zero bytes and are no longer usable. Is there anyway to get these files back? I have been digitizing all our movies to the tune of about 90GB. What could be going on here? I disconnected the HD from the router and plugged directly into the laptop. Still shows the file names, but each file is still at zero bytes. Not a cool way to have a media server for your house!
View 6 Replies View RelatedI bought a seagate USB hard drive today from Target. Its a 2TB and I was going to use it via USB attached to my router. I connected it and the Linksys firmware detected it and I was able to create the appropriate folders on the drive for storage through the linksys GUI.My issue is that I am now trying to move my movies and tv shows over to the drive and it isn't allowing me to do that.
I get an error message that says "You don't have access to //myshare. contact your administrator".
I'm not sure why I was able to create folders on this drive but am unable to move files to it. Makes no sense to me. Write permission is write permission no?My machine which currently stores the media files is windows7 utimate. The router is E3000 using up to date stock firmware.
I am going back to college and I will need a router. Both my roommate and I were on the same router went over our bandwidth usage a number of times last year. I've done a bit of research and have come up with a few options: Asus rt-n56u, netgear wndr 4500, and the apple airport extreme. Both my desktop and laptop pc so I'm not sure if that effects the outcome. I am going to need a usb port for an ext hdd, which all of them have. All of the routers have a 5hz signal for better streaming. Would I be able to use the apple airport? It seems the have the best reviews. But I question the compatibility and some of the reviews due to possible fanboyism. Also, If I connect my desktop to the router via a crossover cable and have an ext hdd hooked into the router can I transfer files to the ext hdd and stream that data over a 5 hz signal?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using a 8GB flash disk formatted as FAT32, under OSX when I copy a 1.51 GB file to the flash drive it completes but the file will not appear in Finder?? I thought this problem was fixed in 1.0.04 firmware??So when I load up a Window 7 PC and access the storage device, I see the file but it's only being reported as 4KB?FAT32 file size limit is 4GB so what the heck is going on with this router? Clearly the E3000 seems to have continued problems with OSX. Doesn't appear to be any fix now or in the near future?
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust bought a Seagate GoFlex 3TB external USB drive to connect to the E3000 router I recently purchased and it is dead. The LED light on the front of the drive doesn't come on when plugged into the router. It does when going direct to the PC and I can access the drive but when I go to the router,and try to explore the drive-nothing. Now if I go to the settings on the router it sees the GoFlex but there are no folders showing even after I entered a 'media sharing' one via PC. I've rebooted the router,the PC,the drive,nada. I reformatted to NTFS and nothing. Why the heck does this router refuse to see this drive? I even when connected to the PC made sure the sleep timer was set to 'never' so it wouldn't sleep on me.

The manual says put 192.168.1.1 in the address field of windows explorer, but it just gives me the "Setup" page for the router.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIf Anonymous Disk Access is selected, read-only files cannot be deleted; nor can the file attributes be changed. This is true even if one attempts to connect as an administrator. Unchecking Anonymous Disk Access and logging on as an administrator fixed this problem for me, but I'd think there are 2 issues.
1. Anonymous Disk Access should allow deletion of ANY files. I would expect this to be a "wide open" setting.
2. If Anonymous Disk Access is selected, a valid login should take precedence.
I now have a shared drive shortcut on my desktop from the external drive I have hooked to the EA4500. Is there a way to share this folder to Android phones or Ipads? Looking to backup my phone data to the share (photos)

After a couple of months, I needed to re-locate my router into a different room. After doing so, I plug back in the USB drive and cannot access it. If I go through the GUI, it tells me that the drive type is not supported, and if I just plug it into a computer to obtain the infromation off of it, I get a "drive is corrupted" error

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a E3000 with a USB hard drive plugged into it. It works perfectly as a shared storage drive from all my computers. But as a Media Server it is not working. I purchased a Sony SMP-N200 Steaming Media Server that found all the PCs in the house and can stream music and photos fine. It does not see the shared USB drive connected to the E3000. Sony's web site says it uses DLNA to find and stream music and photos. It says Windows 7 is one example of DLNA When I go to DLNA.org and check to see what routers are DLNA compliant, it says the Cisco E4200 and E4200v2 is. Is Cisco going to make a firmeware upgrade to include DLNA for the E3000?

However, when I come in through the Internet via an iOS device, I can see folders but when I try to enter the folder, all I get is a message that displays "|Folder|Enter Into Folder|Select|. There is no click-through capability other than "Return to Upper Folder", which takes me back to folders.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have realized that E4200 V1 I have, with 1.03 firmware, seems to be dying when I reboot it and it tries to load the USB HD I have connected to it. By die I mean the web server does not work anymore (http://192.168.1.1), and new computers can't connect to the router. I suspect it is due to the amount of files I have in the External Disk Drive -I used to have Media Server enabled, but I disabled it because this problem was happening, and I only left File Server enabled. Now since I moved many of my pictures to it, it seems even File Server is causing problems, and if neither one work for me, then this router does not justify its money, since that was the only reason I bought this E4200 hardware. These problems are solved in V2? Since it is still under warranty, I could try to exchange my V1 for a V2 version.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just bought a Linksys E4200 from bestbuy tonight, mostly for the feature of plugging my hard drive into it to use it as a media server, and being able to read & write to it from any computer on my network. I have searched for hours on end trying to fix my problem. I login to my router (at 192.168.1.1), I go to the storage tab, I then click the "Create Share" button next to my WD hard drive in the list and nothing happens. Ive tried this on four different computers, and three different browsers now to no avail.
Some random information:
Computer: Dell XPS 420
Router: Linksys E4200
Hard Drive: WD 1TB
I am sharing media from my Linksys E3000 router and would like to use subtitles (in separate files) for movies. It is working when I am using Samsung PC based AllShare server but not while using E3000 UPnP server. On the other hand I found some info on the web that Twonky should support subtitles. But maybe different version then embedded into E3000.

Laptop is on 5ghz, running speed at 300. I'm running the E3000 in dual mode (running 2.4ghz and 5ghz at the same time.) I have 2 different network names mjames5gz and mjames24gz.
In my basement, I have a laptop running on 5ghz and an IP camera running 2.4 ghz. the signal in the basement is on the low side for both. Under Wireless network connection, I am getting around 100 on Speed vs.300 on the laptop.... The basement is fully finished so I can't run cables to the basement easily. What could I buy so I can stream videos from laptop to laptop on 5ghz. Would also be nice to have the 2.4ghz signal boosted as well
When I go upstairs, both laptop read 300 ghz and I can stream between them just fine.
I have an e300 router with my external hdd connected via the USB port. I am trying to figure out how to access the hdd remotely. I am not trying to get to it through remote desktop access. I have my laptop that I take with me when away from home but I would like to be able to access the hdd via Internet.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIf I try to set a torrent download to write directly to the USB drive on my E3000, it only works for a few minutes (at low speeds) and then I lose access to the drive and the torrent stops. I can access the drive again less than a minute afterwards.
It'd be handy to be able to write torrents straight to the USB drive instead of having to move the completed files to it after the torrent is finished.

One day my connection was slow so I backdoored the router ip (I didn't use cisco connect) to reset the router from my iPhone. I'm not sure exactly what was changed, but the partition disappeared from the drive. I've used a couple file recovery programs to try and retrieve the 250+ Gb data that was on the drive with no luck. They only find "deleted" files. Not the 13k files that were there and not deleted. The drive was never bootable. What to be used to recover the files.

View 7 Replies View RelatedFor the past few months, I have been using a Buffalo drive (formatted as FAT) as a media server to function as my network drive for iTunes. Unfortunately, I have recently noted in the last 2-3 weeks that, when copying new files, the file size changes to zero bytes. I do not seem to have this problem when i plug the drive directly into my computer via USB, only when adding files over the network. I spoke to tech support, who said, based on the story in that files can be correctly transferred when directly connected, it appears to be a network problem.
I am running OS 10.8 with iTunes 11 (but also occurred with iTunes 10) and using version 1.0.04 on the E3000.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI had an Iomega 1TB External Hard Drive connected to my E4200 router. I had shares confgured and they were properly running on the network.
As of yesterday, this all stopped working. The router does not see the drive; it is as though it is not plugged in.
I rebooted the router and it still does not work. I've connected the hard drive directly to my PC to verify that it works there, and it does. The router is running Ver.1.0.03 (Build 14) of firmware (the latest).
I'm not exactly sure if this is a networking problem or a Windows problem. I have a Linksys ea3500 router to which I have connected a WD My Book external drive via the USB port. When I view the router's webpage, I can see my drive listed under the storage tab; however, I cannot map the drive on my laptop. Whenever I try to do so, it gives me the 0x80070035 error. If I run the Windows diagnostic, it tells me the drive will not accept the connection.
